Read Better Business Bureau reviews as soon as possible. We are not even using this company and someone accidentally showed up at our home at 630am. He didn't even knock to tell us why he was on our property. We neighbor with a cattle farm so any kind of chemicals has to be approved and notified by both families. He sprayed outside without our permission and once we were finally able to scream loud enough at him he stopped. He barely glanced at his phone and said he had the wrong address and walked away. He also said we needed to avoid the chemicals by not going outside for at least 1 hour. Well too late damage done. Now we have to alert the EPA and have the contaminants removed from our playground area. The smell is horrible. Called the company and much like others have reported they hung up on me. read more

The act of scheduling an appointment is an ordeal. When you first call American Pest, you speak with a customer service representative. But that person cannot schedule an actual appointment. In turn, the customer service representative refers your information to a salesperson, who is supposed to call you several days later. That person in turn will eventually call you and advise you that they will email a list of available appointments. All of this can take one to two weeks to schedule the initial appointment. Obviously, this is an inefficient and baffling system. Whoever created it probably had a lobotomy. Or inhaled too much extermination spray. read more

I am very upset with American Pest. I called to schedule an appointment for service. I was on hold for 20 minutes waiting on the customer service representative to schedule my appointment. When she comes back, she says her supervisor has to find me an appointment and she will call me back. I waited hours for her phone call. The representative never called me back. When I called them again they still couldn't schedule my service saying they were still working on it. This is unacceptable, yet you processed a payment for service. read more

Used the monthly service from March to September 2020. The mice situation at my house had not improved since the initial treatment by American Pest in March and subsequent visits. An additional $200 was shelled out to hire a contractor to plug up the holes identified by the first American Pest employee who came out. But to not avail. The American Pest rep also told us the traps (both traditional traps and catch-and-release/humane) we had wouldn't catch anything. When we told them we caught one mouse with a humane trap already, he said that was a fluke ("beginner's luck" he said). So far, we have caught ZERO mice with the glue traps American Pest laid out. 0 mice. The only mice caught -- all FOUR-- were using the traps we bought ourselves and placed indoors. Sorry, but after the ton of money we spent with ZERO results, I can't recommend your company. The last representative who came out seemed more knowledgeable but none of the poison left out was eaten and again glue and traditional traps were useless. Several times, I've seen a rat pass up the trap set next to the garage bins and go right into the trash. We have actually now resorted to getting a cat. Unbelievable given the amount of money we spent for zero outcomes. We have lots of friends in the same boat and know with winter coming they will ask us how our experience was. Unfortunately we will have to say, save your money. Our traps from Home Depot and Amazon were more effective. read more

This company bought out Capitol Pest. The price increased and service went way down. Scheduling was difficult and they refused to move any appliances or furniture. I complained about their service several times and it was only when I called to cancel that they offered to send out a supervisor. By that time it was a hard no for me. They barely deserve a star. I contacted them to help with a rodent at my rental property. The gentleman that came to install the equipment was great. He explained everything and told me what to expect. After 2 weeks I called for a recheck because I got an email. I made an appointment...nobody showed up. So I gave the follow-up appointment another try...nobody showed up. I called to have them come pick up the equipment, I was done. The company did nothing for me. I used American Pest for about two years. We moved into an AS IS house and developed an ant issue. We did not want a lot of spraying in the house but agreed to have them spray in the basement and attic, and they treated the flower beds to stop the ants. The treatment worked. The technicians are very nice and professional. The problem was with billing. Both years we paid in full for the entire year. Late last year I realized that even after having paid for the year I was charged after the service. When I looked back into my records I was billed months before that too. They fixed the situation. They refunded the credit card change and then sent a check for other erroneous charge from months prior. We received our service yesterday (which is a part of our annual paid service) and today I received an email that I was billed AGAIN. So I called again to get a refund, cancel my service, and get my yearly payment refunded. If I do not receive the refund tomorrow I will file a complaint with the state of Maryland. Be careful if you have a yearly subscription. These are not good business practices. Quite sketchy. read more

Since switching from Capitol Pest, I have found the customer support and on site techs really lacking. The service provided is not worth the price and or the headache of making appointments and making payments. I made an appointment and it was cancelled without notice. I waited on site and never rec'd notification. And when the follow up appointment was completed, I was not notified a tech was onsite and the service report that was mailed to me was blank. After finding one dead rat on my property, i had rodent boxes installed and serviced by this company for years. I recently canceled services with them for reasons described below and got a new exterminator. In my new exterminator's opinion, the services that American Pest was providing were not only totally ineffective, but the rat boxes they used actually attracted rats to my property. As a result, I now have burrows with rats living in my backyard. He is trying to remove them, but it is a long and arduous process. Every week, he leaves my backyard with a dead rat. I canceled my services with American Pest because although they made regular visits to service the rat boxes, calling therm to address another problem was useless. I called to ask them to address a wasp problem. It took a full week to get an appointment. They were supposed to come on Wednesday, and did not call or show up. I called them and rescheduled for the following day - they also did not call or show up on Thursday. I canceled all future services with them. read more

Unfortunately I've given this company too many chances to redeem themselves. The technicians never do what you are paying them to do. Every fall I have mice in my attic that they can not seem to get under control . I've caught the technician lying stating that he has filled the bait boxes only to have another tech verify that they were indeed empty. Supervisor came to house and promised better service, I requested a new tech but the old one kept showing up to do service. I would have to follow the techs around to make sure I was getting what I paid for. Shameful. The company supervisors were involved and I still received bad service. I was told I would get 3 visits for $399.0. I had only two visits. I have sent emails and called to schedule my third one and got no answer. finally spoke to someone to be told that if i was offered that I had only 45 days after the first visit to have all three scheduled. well after the first visit they told me in 30 days they would come out for another visit and then 3 months after that. Not once did they call me, respond to me, or answer any kind of email I sent. They are not clear on their specials or anything . they do not send out reminders or anything. I have been using American Pest for over a year to treat insects/spiders. The treatment has worked, however there were times when I needed additional service treatment due to more insect activity. Calling to schedule a service in between regular service can be difficult. Recently, I called to schedule a service for treatment before my regular service and they scheduled me for the following week Tuesday. On that Tuesday, no one showed up. I called and they said they had no record of my appointment, even though they had record of me calling the week before. They did not apologize and had me on hold for quite some time to "figure it out". She did say they would schedule me the next day or 2 and that she would call me back that night. This was 3 pm. I received no call back that night. The following day, I called them back in the afternoon and voiced my complaint. They did not seem able to schedule me quickly so I chose to cancel my contract with them. The manager called me the following day, apologized and made some offers, however, it is easier and more convenient to use a smaller/local pest company. American Pest service is fine, but making appointments, calling them and dealing with them is inconvenient and do not have the best customer service. I have also had issues with their email/text message alerts when they do come out for treatments, ie not receiving alerts. read more

We discovered some termites in our garage. We had a different company come out first, who quoted us thousands of dollars and wanted to drill holes all over the place. American Pest was timely and friendly, and recommended a much less costly and destructive method of termite control. To be fair, we have yet to really find out whether that method is effective, so I will update this if we come to find it is not. The five stars is for their timeliness, friendliness, and professionalism. They even sent us a holiday thank you card which I appreciated, because this whole termite nonsense happened right before the holidays which was a bummer. read more

My boss recommended American Pest. I had been having trouble with ants, spiders and a mouse. I was impressed how gradually the "carpenter ants" and spiders disappeared. But as far as the mouse dissapearance it is still here! The tech did put down rat poision outside and he did foam a place in the front and back. Meanwhile regular ants were marching all around too. I called for someone to come out only to be told tgey couldn't come unril the following week. I used to have Fridays off but I started working again. They are charging $50.00, whether they come out or not! If I'm not home who's to tell $50.00 is just free money. I recently hired another company, who took his time and inspected the whole house inside and out. Went beyond the norm and the mouse was caught the next day! The company is not even close to my area but the owner had no problem in coming and getting the mouse. He is coming this Friday again! I don't often write a review, let alone a negative one, but I felt I needed to in order to warn others. I had the company come over to my home in D.C. because of some mice or rats that somehow got into the house. As you can expect I wanted them out of the house as fast as possible. A service man came and put out two traps and said they would monitor them. He told me that rodents often get into a home by a vent coming from outside. So, I took him to the vents and he said that's probably how they got in and I should put some mesh over the vents to prevent them from doing so again. With that he said he was leaving. I said to wait a minute so he could show me what type of mesh to get and order it. We ordered some on Amazon. And then I said, I'm surprised you don't do this. For $350 I would think this would be done. I said can you come back to install the mesh if I get it and yes someone could for an additional fee. You've got to be kidding me. But what was I to do, so I said ok when can you come back. To cut to the chase, no one ever came back, and I ended up having to hire someone to do their job for another $250.00. So basically I paid this company $350 to tell me what I needed to do and that was it. The rest was on me. NOT GOOD!! read more

This company is great! I was running late getting back to my house for my appointment and Ben, the sales technician, couldn't have been nicer about having to wait 10 minutes for me to get there. He discovered a termite issue in the house and walked me through where they were coming in from, how they were tunneling, and what he could do to stop it. He also took a look at a few other bug concerns such as carpenter bees out under our deck. He was great at explaining everything and detailing what the company offers and what it would cost. Aside from a great appointment, the customer service when scheduling my appointment was also wonderful. The girl on the phone was super pleasant and helpful. Tried to schedule a service appointment for carpenter bee treatment on April 13, 2022. Was told first available appointment was not until 4/27, but they would try to squeeze me in. Would call back. Never called back, so I called them the next day. Repeat process. I called again on 4/15. Now first available appointment is 5/5. I booked that. They promised to see if they could get me in earlier. We will see. If they do, I will change my review rating. Prepaid services are only good if they carry them out. Disappointing customer service. Update: booked for 4/26. I needed an exterminator so I came to Yelp so I could get some estimates before picking one. When I got to American Pest, it says big as day "FREE ESTIMATES" on their page. I contacted them and said I was interested in a free estimate. I made an appointment and the guy came to my house and explained the problem within 10 minutes. I decided to go with someone else for the problem and it was solved. 2 weeks later I received a bill from American Pest for $100. I called them and said "all I got was the free estimate so what is this bill?" I was then told they don't do free estimates and what I received was an inspection. When I told them I didn't ask for an inspection and your page says free estimates, I was then told that just means we'll tell you how much it might cost over the phone. When I said "how could you tell me the cost without seeing the problem?" the guy just got quiet and said there's nothing he can do and I have to pay the bill. I had 3 companies come by and give me an estimate, but American Pest is the only one who charged me to look at the problem. If they'll do something shady like this just imagine what they'll do once you actual have them doing work. Plus their estimate was way higher than the other 2 companies. Abysmal service. Techs never show up on time or call. When they do call, they're hours late and don't care. Customer service assures you that they'll handle it, but nothing changes. My building has contracts for monthly regular pest control and biweekly mosquito service and they've only kept 3 of the last 12 mosquito appointments (summer service only but it's a lot of appointments because they reschedule every time they fail to show up... and then fail to show up to the reschedule.) and the monthly pest tech has called not more than 3 or 4 times in the last year. (They have to call to gain access to the building for inside treatment, which we pay for, but instead they just treat outside and leave.) We went with this company because so few offer Saturday service, but honestly, you won't get it anyway. Save your time, money, and frustration. Go with someone else. Anyone else. read more

I'm a harsh critic and do not easily even give a 4 star but American Pest Control (not to be confused with American Pest) truly deserves a 5 start from me. I read the reviews before I decided to call them. I have to agree that speaking to the receptionist to make an appointment was not the best experience I had but I was conscientious about it from previous yelp review. I went ahead and continue to book an appointment for a free estimate to address my rat/mice/rodent issue (according to my HOA). I'm so glad I did. I met the most honest man ever (it was Brian!)! Brian came out to inspect my property and did not find any rodent problem and suggested that I didn't need any treatment. Since no treatment is needed, they don't provide any written documentation which is understandable. However, I had to let my HOA know that there was no issue on my property. Brian talked to me to get a better understanding of what I needed. In response, he offered to verbally provide anyone I needed with his findings and gave me his cell to directly contact him. I can't believe that he knows I have to address an issue with my HOA and didn't try to take advantage. I didn't get charge anything for it. I got top-notch service and advice for FREE! So the other reviews about Brian is true. I highly recommend giving them a try. There's no harm to get a free estimate and find out how amazing they are yourself. If you a slight skeptic like me, feel free to prepare your questions to test their knowledge. I'm certain they will exceed your expectation! We have been having an issue that goes back almost a year now and they have completely ignored it. One of the properties we manage had an ant infestation and a couple of treatments were done (prior to the transfer of Arrow American to American Pest). The homeowner cancelled the service after the November 2020 treatment and the company was advised. They have done three additional quarterly treatments and keep sending bills even though their services were terminated. they have been told at least three times and ignore my letters. These unauthorized invoice will not be paid. I don't trust them any longer! We are looking for a new pest control company to take over the properties we manage. read more

There is too steep a gorge between my expectations for service and AmericanPest's capability to provide service as promised. Thrice, its lack of commitment underscoreed my concern: * Ryann scheduled my initial inspection for bedbugs for Tuesday, July 14 between 9 and 11am. This did not happen. An additional concern was that I received no follow-up contract from anyone associated with AmericanPest. After I again contacted Ryann, a new timetable was set for the next day. * Verbally, I was told with reinforcement via email that Torrence was being scheduled to arrive no later than 1pm the next day (July 15). He did not. * Additionally, Ryann assured me, verbally and via email, that "if [Torrence] is running late [he will] notify [Ryann] immediately so that [Ryann] may be in contact" with me. Neither did this courtesy occur. Consequently, these breaches of trust terminate my current and future business dealings with AmericanPest. I called American Pest for help with a mice and flies issue. The customer service was friendly and it was easy to get an appointment the same week. You have to provide your credit card info up front. The technician (Irvin) arrived before the scheduled time and began inspection on the exterior of the house (very proactive!). He was very thorough, meticulous, professional, and understanding. He provided suggestions to supplement areas where he had to block holes in our attached garage to ensure rodents would not have entrance to our home again. I like the convenience of being able to log in online and see inspection reports and upcoming appointments. They do an initial inspection, then follow up with a one week check up to check the traps etc. Thereafter, you can pay $50 monthly or $100 every other month for the basic package without termite service. I recommend them since I am very satisfied with the service so far. One mouse has been caught so far and I haven't seen any more evidence of activity. We are still working on the flies issue but the technician gave us suggestions on where they were coming into the home from and what we could do to stop it. read more

I really wanted to use this company for my pest issue. Unfortunately the only way they would come out was if I agreed to pay for a k9 inspection, at $220. Even though I already know we have bedbugs. They're very easy to identify so there's no need for a dog to "confirm". I could even send pictures of what I caught if they needed visual confirmation. I understand it costs money to pay a technician and fuel to come to my house. I'm willing to pay a reasonable fee for an estimate. But, like I told them, I want the whole house treated so what's the point of locating the bugs? If they treat the whole house it stands to reason that it's supposed to kill them in whatever room they're in. read more
