I talked to several pool contractors and received 5 bids to remodel our pool. I am so glad that we hired American Pool Plastering to completely replace the 20+ year old plaster with Pebbletec, replace all the old tiles, and also replace all of the coping for both our pool and spa. They did an amazing job on all counts! Our old pool looks brand new! Luis was very responsive and constantly making sure that everything during the planning phase, construction & follow up was to my utmost satisfaction. He also introduced me to a 3rd party contractor who specializes in pool rocks. Our large (1/2 the size of the pool) old waterfall rock was chipping and discolored. The contractor did a great job restoring our rock to "like-new" condition! Luis and team are extremely professional, courteous & do awesome work! The whole job took barely more than 1 week! We are replastering our pool with pebblesheen and wanted to use a certified installer - I found American's info on the PebbleTec website. I got around 5 estimates, and narrowed it down to two companies - American and one other. It was really hard to decide between the two, I ended up going with the other company, maybe because they have more reviews/have been around longer, but wanted to leave a review here for the estimate process and price. I made an estimate appointment - the soonest they had was a week away - Monty showed up on time without me having to remind the office of the appointment. The meeting was educational and efficient, and he sent a detailed estimate about everything we talked about on the same day! Their price was a little bit lower than the other company but still within the same range, so it didn't seem suspicious. One interesting thing was that both certified companies that use real pebbleTec were pretty much the same price and in one case cheaper than the companies I talked to who use NPT Stonescapes which is a similar product with a worse warranty. It things don't go well with the company we picked, I'll definitely be calling American on our next project. read more

UPDATE 12/21/21: Pool resurfacing is completed and they did an amazing job. All of my concerns have been addressed and questions answered. The process was good and Luis' team were on time daily and knocked the job out in a week. Even the final "acid wash" was so detailed that my pool guy only had to worry about the chemicals. Update from review in November 2018 where I gave this Company a 5 star rating. If I could give them a 10 star rating today I would, my pool had developed a rust spot on the pebble tech finish, I called Luis and he promptly sent out Noe his pool tech. Noe cleaned the rust spot and put a patch on the tile to see if regrouting would work to take care of the problem, it started to rest again so I called Noe and he informed Luis and the office about the rust returning. About a week or so after talking to Noe he was back out and took two tiles out and fixed where the rust spot was coming from and replaced the tiles and grout. There is nothing but professionalism and quality that comes from this company. They use real pebble when products that come out amazing and they know how to apply it properly. No discoloration whatsoever. They also did a great job re-plumbing my pool. Everything is brand new and looks fantastic. The tiles look great and we even got to use two different types to get the exact look we want. The split the drain, added new returns, put in a brand new skimmer, added a designated vacuum line, and a new led light. They company showed up on tile and worked to get the job done in 8 total working days. That includes a day to drain and a day to fill. They were very clean and everything looks amazing. Our 15 year old pool needed a remodel. We interviewed almost 15 pool companies (Home Advisor, Angie's List) and finally, through a NextDoor recommendation, met with Luis Marquez, the owner. Called to set up an estimate. Was given a 2-hour time slot (11-1). I arranged my schedule for that day to accommodate. They called the morning of the appointment day and got my voice mail. They left a message saying that the owner was tied up on a another job and wanted to reschedule to 1-3 pm same day. I called back, said I already arranged my day, and could be available from 2:30 - 3. She said they can only do 2 hour windows. OK, so we try to make that work. Get another voice mail later in the day saying owner is still tied up on the job, and it needs his supervision. Need to reschedule to another day. Where to start??? First, is the owner the only person who can do estimates AND supervise jobs? If so, why not set aside specific days and times just for estimates. Second, I understand the 2-hour window thing, but after forcing me to reschedule, you could be more accommodating, and agree to a tighter window. Third, pool plastering is not exactly an emergency business. Did the owner not know that there was a job happening that needed his attention before making the appointment with me? From the other reviews it sounds like this company does great work on pool plastering. I'll never know, because I can't get them to come out and give me an estimate! read more

I am an every Constructors nightmare! I look for the best value AND the best price and I shop around a lot! Prior hiring this company, I had over 10 different estimates. American Pool Plastering didn't quote the best price, but they were close. However, I educated myself enough to tell apart a good sales person from a knowledgeable and experienced company representative. Luis was that person. He definitely knew what he was talking about, he took his time to explain how he will approach the job and what will I get for my money. He wasn't pushy at all but explained several options so I choose the best one for me. It is one thing to sell a product, and completely different to deliver results as promised! Just as I mentioned above, I am extremely details oriented and I was very pleased that American Pool Plastering worked the same way. Great communication, process, people and they completed job exactly as agreed as well to timeline with amazing results. The work crews are pros and get right to work when they show up. Our pool plaster was in dire need of replacement as a result of prior owner not properly maintaining chemical balance for a long time. We are glad we decided to go with pebble sheen vs. replastering because the finished product is well worth the additional expense. They know pebble sheen as a result of doing it a long time and the volume of pools they do. No shortcuts taken, did everything the right way and it shows. Luis, one of the owners was very informative and provided me with guidance in selecting my pebble tec color and sheen. We had a very positive experience with American Pool and Safety Inc (APSI) Our Pool-Spa combination was over 30 yrs old and black bottom plaster was in desperate need of redo. Large amount of tile on braised bond beam, some of which were falling off. We did quite a bit of research and interviewed 6 different companies. Luis Marquez is the owner of APSI and has been in the business a long time, working under his father's company years ago and now owning APSI. He was very easy to deal with and spent a good deal of with us during the interview stage, answering many, many questions. His bid was not the cheapest of the six, but was in mid range and very competitive. After interviewing and visiting 4 of his past clients, we decided to go with APSI for the remodel (also which included installation of new 400,00 BTU gas pool heater, new standard lights, and some minor plumbing work) We were very pleased with the work. All workers are APSI emplyees (i.e. no subs) All phases went very smoothly (empty, demolition, tile, pebble sheen, equipment,plumbing.lights, retile) Each phase has different group of workers and all were pleasant to deal with. Luis oversees all the work and was available for all questions. There were no major problems and all was completed rapidly. Clean up was fantastic. I was truly dreading the remodel experience prior to becoming involved with APSI, but can honestly say they made the whole process very easy to deal with and with no headaches. We choose a pebble sheen finish with Fujiwa tile and the pool looks brilliant! Would highly recommend APSI. There are tons of horror stories out there about pool contractors and subs, you can rest assured you will not experience any problems with APSI. read more

Luis Marquez came to our home to give us an estimate on resurfacing our small splash pool. That was the last we ever heard from American Pool. After about a half dozen calls to people who couldn't find our address, told us the guy who had our estimate went on vacation, etc. We gave up. It had been 7 weeks since we rearranged our schedule to accommodate an estimate. At this point, we aren't stupid enough to give a company our money, or access to our home, if they can't even return a call or follow through with an estimate.
