They declined it. Sipe's didn't charge me a dime. They even kept my car on there lot until I found a place to put it. I have never met these guys before, I am new in town. It's hard to find nice people now a days . It seems like when you're struggling nobody cares, I can honestly say that's not the case here. Truly good people.

After…read moretwo misdiagnoses They replaced the engine. there was a fire under the hood three days after the car was picked up. This was caused by a short circuit in the alternator plug. First, my son was told the alternator bearings were bad and the heat had caused the fire. When we ran the car with no heat or vibration on the alternator we were told that the bearings were bad when they checked it. The discussion ended with the proprietor telling us that if we did not have 100% proof that the plug was damaged in his shop that he was under no obligation to work with us on the alternator replacement. After showing the car to another auto tech we were told that we had been overcharged for the engine replacement by about $1500.

With those miles it was having normal (and some abnormal) aging issues: Dual temp heater control issues. Oil leaking from the valve covers onto the plug boots, turning them to mush. Carbon build up. Intake air leaks causing rough idling. Jimmy took his time and talents and fixed it all. He wouldn't let it leave the shop until it was right. It wasn't cheap but it was very fair and much, much less than a dealer. I've worked on cars and engines and I know what this kind of dedication takes. These are the kind of people you need taking care of your car.

I had a 75 minute wait and no car so wanted to go somewhere as they have no waiting area or chairs really. In addition to this, my "check engine" light recently came on and I knew that meant automatic fail for the emissions test I needed to take soon. I contacted RMAC on the recommendation of a friend whose family has been going to them for years. At first I was hesitant when I noticed the shop shares a building with a gas station (from what I've heard, this is usually a red flag) but I decided to try it out this time since my family's trusted mechanic is a 45-60min drive from where I currently live. I dropped it off on a Saturday morning and explained the issues. They called me back a half hour later with their report; long story short, the dashboard was on due to an evaporation leak and bad transmission part and the noise was my tires telling me I needed new brakes. The total estimate was $450-ish, but they needed to run a smoke test to find where the leak may be coming from. Because the test takes an hour, Scott said they would need to charge for labor to run it. (this was part of the estimate) I told them to run the test and check back with me on Monday with a more precise estimate of what needs to be done and how much it would cost. On Monday, they said the test didn't show a leak and because of that, they wouldn't charge me for it. (!) This, along with not having to pay for parts and labor, knocked the entire estimate down to near $300 which made me very happy. It was a nice surprise that my car was ready for pick-up about 45mins early. Also, the improvement in performance is certainly noticeable. Side notes: It seems the typical hours for the repair shop are 7/7:30-4:30 on M-F and until 11am on Saturdays though I learned that the cashier accepts payment/returns vehicles until 10pm during the week.
