Do not use this company if you have to be somewhere on time! We have used this American Taxi for 20 years and never had a problem. But last month we had an 1:00 PM flight at O' hare airport and scheduled a taxi the day before for an 11:00 AM pick up. The order was confirmed by e-mail & text that night. When pick up time came no taxi came. We tried calling every American Taxi number available, but they were all busy. We kept trying for 15 minutes and still all lines were busy. We called another taxi service (303 Taxi) and they were here in a half an hour. We barely made the flight but 303 Taxi saved the day. When we starting boarding the plane, I got a text for American Taxi saying they found a taxi for me. I will never use American Taxi again and neither should you if going to the airport! The second star is for airport service -- they do an adequate job being on time for rides to and (especially) from the airport. But don't bother using them any longer for suburban travel. Taxis booked hours in advance do not get matched until significantly after your ETA, and the drivers then decline the ride, leaving you to languish there. Ever since they introduced the guaranteed rate for suburban travel the wheels have fallen off. I don't like the idea of Uber, honestly, but at least they can get me there. If you need a ride to a train station, use another cab company or even Uber before these guys. read more

Terrible on all fronts : they over charged me $36.00 on a flat rate fee of $31.00 from Evanston to O'hare (which was confirmed in an email) - the credit card was charged $ 67.00 . I called back and they are "looking into it". I had had to call twice to order the cab in the first place because you can't choose an alternate pickup location via the interminable press 1 for option system. The first time I called and waited for an operator I got hung up on. So in the 1 minute it would have taken me to Uber my daughter to O'Hare is now a huge and expensive hassle. read more

Used this company a few times when my car was totaled. In one situation, they left me standing out in the cold for almost an hour. I called to ask for an update but was pretty much given the run around. The next time I called, I canceled and booked an Uber which was there in 3 minutes. So I guess if you schedule in advance, they get the job done but suck at unscheduled pickups. read more

Great Service! Taxi # 3550. After a ride from my house to O'hare, my kid left his hat in a car. I called the driver and he came back to O'hare in a next 10 minutes. Good for flat rate trips to and from airport. However, American Taxi is extremely unreliable if you call for suburban service. You may get a confirmation, but that doesn't mean a cab will show up. BE SURE YOU GET THE NUMBER, MAKE AND MODEL OF THE CAB ASSIGNED. Unless you have that info, you are not actually confirmed. I found out the hard way! When I booked the cab at a suburban Metra Station, the dispatcher told me a cab would arrive in 5 to 15 minutes. I waited nearly one hour and then received a text saying there were no cabs in the area and to arrange service with another company. Seriously? Fortunately, a Good Samaritan offered to take me to my destination. Otherwise, I'm not sure what I would have done! (Uber offers only inconvenient carpool service in my area.) Bottom line: Use for airport service only. For suburban service, make other arrangements. read more

If the option was zero stars then that's my rating on american taxi dispatch!!! They mishandled my reservation again and proceeded to blame me the customer. I actually ordered a blue car to be picked up from O'hare and they sent an american cab. Nice bait and switch. the cab driver calls me while i'm still on the plane waiting to get off and proceeded to instruct me to hurry up or he is going to leave. My response was do what you need to do,i'm still on the plane. What this company doesn't understand is today we have many many ride options and with customer service like that means they will not be around for long. Had an early flight, so I called for a cab the night before. I got a text confirmation after the call with confirmation of the details of the pick-up which was nice. The driver arrived at least five minutes early and called me exactly five minutes before scheduled pick-up time, so I was very pleased. The ride was fine. Only downside was paying with credit/debit card was a bit of a burden because the driver used an old-school system so he hand to hand-write a lot of the information. so called for a cab from my neighborhood Jewels gave address and name of plaza it was in . Had to call 3 times to get a cab. Cab driver disregarded the fact that I was highly irritated and began flirting with me asking my marriage status i told him I was married he continued would not unlock the door and insisted in opening the door for me he grabbed my bags from the floor as I got out the cab he handed me my bags and kissed me on the cheek and handed me his card telling me to call him. I scheduled a cab for 6:30 am at a major shopping mall and called at 6:00 am to confirm it was in their system. By 6:40, no one had shown up. I called their dispatcher and was told that they didn't have any cabs available in the area. I told them that I had made the reservation the night before and they had plenty of advance notice to know they needed to have someone available, and they told me that they don't notify the driver until 15 minutes before the fare, and at that time there were no drivers available. They could not tell me when a driver would be available, and the only option I had was to be late to work, so I just had to cancel the appointment. And they didn't even bother to call and tell me they were going to be late. Never calling American Taxi again. They can't be trusted. **UPDATE** I canceled the appointment at 6:40 a.m., but they never told the driver. He called me at 7:30 a.m. (an hour late), saying that he had just arrived. read more

After two horiffic drivers on ONE day, within fifteen min of one another, yes, I tell you not, I refuse to order another american taxi. EVER! I am recovering from a stroke, now unable to drive. I have relied heavily on The Real AMERICAN TAXI for the past six years, during recovery time. Sometimes, for multiple round trips per day! I figure I was their best customer that they would try even harder in providing service to....WRONG! Last week when getting picked up at Target in Wheeling, Il the taxi driver actually refused to put my groceries in the van. He claimed he was "not a limo driver'.I exited his van. I then called the dispatcher to complain, ordered another cab, and then waited another 25 minutes. Cabbie #2 worked out fine until we arrived at my home (one mile away), needing to place my groceries up two steps in front of my front door. He had noticed that a very small item of cupcake liners had fallen out of my bag, in his van. RATHER THAN WALK AND HAND THEM OVER TO ME, HE THREW THEM TO LAND ON MY CURVED SIDEWALK, TWO FEET BEHIND ME! When I turned around and yelled," Did you just throw that at me?" He exclaimed from his front door of his van, way down on my driveway, ' that it had fallen out of his pocket!" Now, why would MY cupcake liners be in his pocket? Because I am waiting for eye surgery, I cannot see well.One eye remains covered with a surgical patch. I asked for his cab no., loudly. Mixed results -- sometimes cab is good and clean and driver helpful... other times cabs are filthy, driver hygiene is atrocious (smells like a dirty diaper); sometimes driver speaks English and knows their way around, other times driver can't understand and has no idea how to get anywhere. Automated phone booking does seem to work, which is fortunate since it's hard to get through to a person. Web booking also seems to work. read more

I'm beyond satisfied! We needed a cab to get us to the airport and I decided to call American Taxi... the rate from Des Plaines to O'Hare was only $14.00 (+$1.00 pp over 12 yrs old). Our cab was supposed to be at our house at 1:45, arrived at 1:30 and the driver was great... personable and attentive. We'll definitely use them again when we head out to the airport. read more

We have used AT several times in the past. Mostly positive but die to the last experience we will NEVER use them again. They left us stranded at O'Hare on Saturday February 10 after 3 confirmations, including one after telling us which door to meet at. I have been using American Taxi for a while primarily for their promptness and flat rates to airports. Now I have one more reason to use them exclusively, their honesty. "Quality comes at a premium" to which i add customer service also. Cheap, not trustworthy and lack basic courtesy of informing the customer on delays. I reserved a taxi on 17th Sept for pick up at 4.00 PM for O'Hare drop. I waited for their arrival until 4.10 and called them to find that they are shortage of drivers and dispatch will take another 20 mins. Waited for another 20 mins and they told me again that the dispatch will take another 15-20 mins because no cabs or drivers in Elmhurst Chicago area. Luckily i did not wait and called another taxi to reach airport just in time for boarding. Once i reached airport which is after 1 hr from the original reservation time, i got a message that they are canceling my order because they could not dispatch taxi due to some issues. This is ridiculous and totally irresponsible, what if i miss the flight? They should have informed me in advance and show a basic courtesy to call me before i call them to find the delay. I use them all the time. What I especially like is that you don't need a reservation for them to pick you up from the airport to Naperville. There's tons of them just waiting for you to call it seems. I always hated hiring a limo and having to wait another 20-30 minutes outside of O'Hare for them to arrive. American Taxi is always there within what seems to be 2 minutes. Big Plus -- on one trip home, my girlfriend had a seizure in the cab. What was a very hectic experience was made comfortable by a driver that knew what to do. Instead of scrambling around trying to find a hospital out of nowhere, he did the right thing and pulled off at the nearest exit and called for an ambulance. Everything turned out okay, and due to all the comotion, he didn't even ask for payment at the time. When I called the next day, he said not to worry and just ask for him next time. This cab service is probably about as average as they come. The cabs are usually clean which is always a plus. Their timeliness is probably about 50/50 and the airport pick ups are usually decent. They will often ask for directions, and then take their own directions. Some drivers dislike when you pay with a credit card. However there are plenty of cabs, they are averagely priced and they are wheels when I need 'em. read more

I was running late to catch the metra and the credit card machine wasn't working as fast as we wanted, my train was a min away and the cab driver didn't charge me for the trip, which is unheard of, I could get to school on time only coz he rushed me over to the station. Horrible. I requested a cab for 10:30 PM through their website at 1:45 PM the same day. The cab never showed and when I called, roughly 10 minutes after the scheduled time, I was informed that there was no ETA because a taxi hadn't even been assigned to pick me up. I guess nearly 9 hours isn't enough notice? Because, you know, Wheaton is crazy busy at this time on a Monday night. And it wouldn't have been a huge deal, despite the fact that this is their job, had it not been cold and rainy. I will not be calling upon this unreliable company again. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. They are unreliable and consistently do not show up at the scheduled pick up time. This morning I was picked up by a cab for my ride to the airport. The cab was 10 minutes late because he was lost, despite apparently having GPS. I had to call dispatch to find out where he was, at which time dispatch had the driver call me. Trying to give directions to the driver, he was extremely rude and uncooperative and hung up on me. I had to call dispatch again... The driver finally showed up and as soon as he stepped out of his vehicle he was combative and argumentative. I instructed him that I did not want to speak during the drive and to just take me to the airport. During this time, I was still on the phone with dispatch and dispatch instructed the driver that he was to stop speaking to me and just drive me to my location. The driver ignored my request and the instruction from his dispatcher and continued to be combative and trying to argue with me, and kept refusing to drive stopping in the middle of the road and slowing down on the interstate. I had to call dispatch a THIRD time because the driver would not stop and his driving was becoming reckless. Dispatch informed me that the head dispatcher texted him and from there he finally stopped yelling at me and drove normally to the location. Had I known that I would be subjected to such an assault, I would NOT have gotten into the cab. The cab was 466. read more

If I could give this company 0 stars I would. The day before my flight they sent me a text that CLEARLY stated "please text us when you land". So, funnily enough, that is exactly what I did. I then get a call as I am about to exit the plane from the driver telling me he is there. I tell him I am still on the plane and he proceeds to tell me he can not wait and he'll have to leave me. We begging going back and forth and mid conversation hangs up on me. This is now the 3rd time this company and the 3rd time they have failed me. NEVER EVER USE THEM! I honestly dont even know where to begin with this review. I think I will just give you a play by play. First a little background. I am a 30 year old male and I have lived in the Chicago area my whole life. I have taken hundreds if not thousands of cab rides over this time. American United was the company I would call if I ever wanted a cab to come pick me up at my condo. They were always reliable, and the drivers were nothing but friendly to me and my wife. That was until this past Saturday night. We called American United around 6pm on Saturday Jan. 7. We were going from my condo in uptown to Ruths Chris in river north. We were running late and I did not have time to get cash, and no one in our party had cash either. Here is how everything went down. I got into the cabs front seat and immediately asked him if he accepted credit card, knowing full well that they are actually legally obligated to accept credit card. I always like to ask because if they cant for some reason, I don't want to get to far before we figure out how we can pay. This is exactly how the conversation went. Me: Do you accept credit card? Driver: I do, but I would prefer cash. Me: Sorry, none of us actually have cash right now. Driver: You know because of that I will have to wait for 3 hours in a line to turn in this receipt. Me: Wow, it seems like there would be a better way to do that. Driver: Well, if people like you would just pay cash, I wouldn't have to worry about that. Me: Sorry, but I don't have any. Driver: You know, it would take us 2 minutes to stop at a F**KING ATM, so I don't have to wait 3 hours in line to turn the receipt in. This is when things went really south, I am not a violent person, but I also will not let people just walk all over me. I could also tell that this man was really getting out of control, he was driving really fast, and moving his arms in jerky motions towards me. I honestly thought I was going to have a physical altercation with him. My wife told me later that he was really close to me. I didn't really notice. Me: Well maybe if you were not such a D**K about it I would have stopped. I want to get out of the cab, pull over. Driver: F**K you, I am taking you to your destination Me: What is your name? Driver: My name is GO F**K your mother Me: Pull this cab over right now! He did finally pull over, and I asked him for his name again, and he told me to "Go F**K myself. This is when my wife said he was really close to me. We got out of the cab, and I was shaking. Later my wife told me that the drivers last name was Sotos, and the cab number was 6508. I really hope that this doesn't happen to anyone else, but if the reviews I am reading are any indication, nothing will be done about this either. I have left a message with the manager, I will update if anything comes of it. For now though, they have lost a customer for life. I just hope I don't end up in this guys cab ever again. read more

Had a good experience with American Taxi Dispatch, cab #635, driver #12669 on 7/13/2017. Showed up on time at my hotel, got me to O'Hare promptly. The phone number I called was 800-244-1177. I had a bad experience with another company (Flash Cab) the night before. Flash charged me $95. American charged me $35 for the exact same trip (24 miles from O'Hare to Hampton Inn, Carol Stream, IL). Did you know you can complain about taxi rides in Chicago? Google it. I called for a Taxi 2 days in a row 2 hours before I need a cab, just so the cab can be at my job at 10pm! The cab still doesn't come, or the next day it was a half an hour late!
