Scheduled a propane delivery and was told delivery would be in 7-10 days - that was supposed to be between January 27 - 30. We received a text from Amerigas that our delivery was delayed due to weather (fine, there was bad weather), and then a follow up text saying our propane would be delivered the next day on Feb 2. Feb 2 came and no propane, and no follow-up. Weather conditions were still poor (the great snow), so I wasn't too concerned. On Feb 5, I was a little concerned about our propane levels and the lack of information, so I messaged them using their live chat feature. After back and forth with their agent over chat, I was advised to place a telephone call to their service number. I did that, and after 30+ minutes on hold, I spoke to a representative who eventually put me on hold to talk to someone else. That person, while polite, was unable to inform me when we would get our propane delivery - basically the local office wasn't making any delivery commitments and we would get propane whenever they could schedule it. It is now a week later and we still have no idea when we'll get service. I'm starting to look at other propane providers, especially after seeing all the other reviews here on Yelp. read more

Amerigas acquired my propane provider and then implemented a fee to discontinue my service by charging $420 to remove their equipment (an empty propane tank) from my property. This charge was not a part of my service agreement with the company that originally provided my propane service and was unilaterally implemented by Amerigas without my knowledge, consent, or agreement. This charge is simply a tactic to force consumers to continue service by charging an unnecessary and non-agreeable hidden surcharge in an attempt to cause financial duress for removing an unwanted service. read more

This is the worse company ever. There is no customer service. Our account is setup to have the invoices emailed but they mail them causing the payment to be delayed and incurring finance charges. When you submit customer service tickets, no one contacts you or takes care of the issue. If I could give negative stars - I would. By far this is the worst company that I have ever done business with. We ordered propane on the 9th of February, it was supposed to be delivered on the 12th. My husband waited all day and no one showed up. He got a msg at 430pm stating that the delivery will now be made on the 13th. He tried calling and no one answered, he had an appt on the 13th and would not be home. The driver arrived on the 13th while my husband was at his appt. he pulled the line and said that he filled the tank and stated that he filled the tank from 60 to 80 percent which was a lie because our tank was only at 20 percent before he got there. We made several calls and complaints and paid 240 dollars for nothing. They refused to come back out, because the driver put in a ticket stating that the propane was delivered. My husband called again and spoke to a supervisor and he implied that maybe there was something wrong with the meter and that they were doing an investigation and that he would get in touch with him within 2 days. That never happened. He called again, this time he spoke with someone at the corporate office. They sent someone out to check the meter. The gentleman checked the meter and found nothing wrong with the meter and that is was reading correctly. However, none of this information was sent back to the local office. Currently we are 0 percent of propane and had to order another 100 gallons just to sustain us until we get a new tank from another company. Then these bastards have the audacity to charge $419.90 removal tank fee. After they stole $240 from us. I abhor this company. They have most ignorant, unknowledgeable SUPERVISORS, and incompetent people that I have ever had the displeasure of conversing with. AVOID THIS COMPANY!! read more

Amerigas customer service is the absolute worst I have ever experienced. When I moved to my current residence in 1987, we started out with Amerigas. After about 8 years I had had all I could take. We had the Amerigas tank dug up out of our yard because billing and customer service were off the charts BAD, BAD, BAD. And trust me - to have your yard torn up to dig up a tank means you are truly at the end of your rope. I went with a lovely local company called Kallam and all was well, until....Amerigas bought Kallam. If I thought Amerigas customer service was bad before I left them for Kallam - it was worse the second time around. And honestly it was so bad the first time that I couldn't believe it could get worse - but it did. Customer service is outsourced over seas and their people are difficult to understand. Hold times to speak to a representative can be up to an hour - only to get transferred to another person and hold another hour....and so forth. I had a gas leak - had to have my gas turned off at the tank (all that went fine) but once I had the gas leak fixed - it was nothing short of hell to get Amerigas out to turn it back on at the tank. Between my husband and myself - we spent no less than 15 hours on the phone trying to nail down a date/time for restoration of our service. During this time, we had no heat...unable to cook on our gas stove and no hot water. No one we spoke with at Amerigas cared at all about what we were dealing with. The right hand had no idea what the left hand was doing. Apparently customer service doesn't document anything in any sort of central system - because everyone we talked to - we had to start over again at the very beginning. Communication was non existent during our efforts to speak to someone who could give us anything concrete about when our gas would be turned back on. We were promised call backs and none came. We finally had to leave our home to get a shower and a hot meal - and of course - that's when they showed up to turn the gas back on. The last customer service person I spoke with had been informed that we were having to leave our home so to PLEASE call me (I gave them the number and made them repeat it back 3 times) before they came out so that I could rush back home. Did they call? NOPE. We returned home for some clothes and found a door hanger on our door. So it was back to the customer service circle jerk and another 6 hours on the phone before we finally got someone out to turn our gas back on. So after spending 21 hours on the phone....having to leave our home, pay for a hotel to get hot showers, heat and hot meals - we were rewarded with a $350 service charge to turn our propane back on. At this point, I want to point out that I have faithfully paid my bills, every time, on time to Amerigas. Our propane tank was at 80% full and was paid for. But they saw fit to charge me $350 to allow me to access my own propane again after putting my husband and me through hell. I complained and went so far as to write the Attorney General here in NC. Basically, I got zero results - Amerigas doesn't care about customers...they care about their money and their very customer unfriendly policies. A few other things to note about doing business with Amerigas.....if you are not on automatic delivery - it could take them 7 - 10 days to do a delivery - but guess what? You can pay $300.00 to get your delivery faster than 7 -10 days. Their cost per gallon is higher than most competitors I spoke with as I was vetting out new suppliers. Don't think that you could go down to a local office to talk to a real life local person to get help. They are behind locked doors in all the offices. No walk in traffic allowed, there are signs on the doors to that effect. You can't talk to a local person either. Not sure what the local staff actually do - but you can't see them or speak to them. Lastly, if you enjoy writing big checks to a company that could care less about their customers and actually go out of their way to be as customer unfriendly as possible, then Amerigas is your company. If you like to write your checks to a company that demonstrates that they care about their customers.....responds to their customers...does the right thing by their customers - have local people who allowed to talk to customers by phone or in person rather than tremble and shake in their boots behind locked doors....then find another company. I have gone with Blossman and in just 4 conversations - found them to be a lovely company to deal with. Their prices are lower as well. They went above and beyond to be sure I had propane before a very cold spell - delivered within 24 hours with no service fee. There are many class action suits against Amerigas and having been an Amerigas customer twice - the first time out of ignorance and the second time against my will - I can certainly see why the class action suits against them. read more

Worst customer service - no replies to request for help. Pricing is almost 50% higher than other nearby suppliers, with no explanation from Amerigas as to why other than 'they can charge what they can'. This is their price and there's nothing that can be done. read more

If I could use zero stars I would. This is the worst company. We were suppose to have a delivery on December 19, 2023 and we had already waited 7 days. Here it is December 23, 2023 and we have zero propane left in the tank. They charged an additional amount for the extra propane and $144.00 for emergency one day service. It will be Sunday December 24 tomorrow. Do you think it will happen??? This has been an ongoing problem every time we order since Amerigas took over from Heritage propane. Worst company ever. Live in Lexington NC. They incorrectly charged me for 118.7 gallons but their delivery ticket was only for 69 gallons. Started talking to customer service on 2/6/24. Took more than 5 calls, 4 emails and 6 chat messages to get bill corrected. Canceled service and still working on a credit for the propane I had paid for in their tank. Amerigas is the worst I've been trying to cancel my service for a week called on Monday told them I wanted to purchase the tanks and terminate service. They took my information and said someone would call. By Friday I had not received a call. I called back and talked to 5 different people that could not speak English!! And explained what I need to do. They sent me to a supervisor and she ask why I want to terminate service I explained I was going to use a local service she then stated I was a valued customer and hey did not want to lose my business. I told her I want to terminate service she said hold please that was 30 minutes ago. At this time I have been on the phone for 1hour and 55 minutes. 90 % of that was on hold. It's been about 3 weeks since I placed an order for propane. I had propane at the time. I expected to get a refill in maybe a week tops. Nope. 2nd full day now without any propane meaning NO heating and NO hot water in the middle of winter. Called to get an emergency delivery and that did not show. Was supposedly originally scheduled to get propane yesterday. No one showed. Today no delivery either. We call and they say we're scheduled for tomorrow. I'll believe it when I see it. When I explained that we are completely out since they have taken so long to delivery & that we have no heat, the rep told me I should try staying somewhere else...like seriously? Your suggestion is I leave MY HOME and go where to not be cold???? Ridiculous. We are getting this tank pulled and cancelling this company. Terrible read more

This company has the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I would give them negative stars if I could. I was on automatic delivery for my propane which means I should never be without gas. Last week I ran out of propane while cooking. I called Amerigas and spoke with a rep who could not have cared less. I was told It would be 24 hours before they could deliver some. I then asked to speak with a manager to see if I could get an emergency delivery that day. While waiting, I was cut off. I called back and spoke with '"Edgar". Not only was he less than helpful, he was extremely rude. I asked to speak with a manager and he said he was the manager. I then asked to speak with his boss and was told he reported to corporate and the only way to contact someone there was by mail !! He then pretty much hung up on me. After 24 hours went by, I did not get a delivery, so I again called them. This rep said the timeframe is 24 to 48 hours. After asking to escalate, she sent me to a customer resolutions person who did nothing to resolve my problem. They next day, I got a call from the deliver guy who told me my tank was too close to my power meter and he couldn't fill it. This is a tank that has been in place for 25 years ! I asked to speak with his manager and he offered to call him for me. Shortly he called me back to say that the manager said to not fill up the tank and to even put a lock on it. I called a local propane provider and they could not deliver a tank until the end of September, but they said I might try to purchase my existing tank from Amerigas, As soon as I had a bill of sale they could fill up the tank. Unfortunately I had to deal with Amerigas again. It took 48 hours to get a quote on purchasing the tank. Then I had to escalate to the "resolution" group to be able to make a payment. And now it's going to be up to 7 days before they will provide me a bill of sale. Amerigas is terrible.. STAY AWAY !! Their customer service is a joke and there is no way to escalate any problem. Their main call center apparently is Indonesia, but if you ask the rep where they are located they will tell you Ohio. I do not want to business that starts out the relationship with a lie. We had Guilford Gas before Amerigas bought them out. Guilford gas was a very good company to work with our propane needs. Amerigas does not care about their customers. Amerigas is the only company that charges a tax rental yearly. The last 3 years they waived the fee for us because we had been a customer with them for 27 years. This year they did not. I called and talked to a customer service rep about coming to pick up our tank because we had another local company that will be supplying our propane. She said she would have a customer service person to call me back. In 2 days they came and picked up our tank without a call back. That was fine because we had another company brining one in the next 3 days i have been very disappointed with their care for their clients. Very Disappointed!!!!! read more

This company is a joke. I am held hostage by the fact that I have their tank buried in my yard. I ordered propane in January and they promised delivery by Feb 2. I'm still waiting and it's Feb 11! I've called their useless call center four times and speak to people in another country who have no idea what is going on. Yesterday I was told the truck was on the way and I was 7th on the list ... I stayed home and no gas was delivered...again! Someone needs to initiate a class action law suite against AmeriGas! They charge me an annual tank change if I don't use enough gas...but then they won't deliver it! They will charge me to dig up the tank so I can't change to another company. We were serviced by Guilford Gas for about 15 years in Summerfield, NC. They were completely reliable. They were acquired by Amerigas and service went to hell. The service line goes to an answering service in India. We were scheduled for a propane fill-up on Dec 12, 2021, and as of January 15, prior to the biggest ice storm of the year, we are still waiting. We have had an emergency fill-up scheduled for two days. I would avoid Amerigas like the plague, operating under the former good name of Guilford Gas. read more

TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE I called today regarding the billing on my account and that I wanted to order a tank fill but your system does not allow me to do that online. I spoke with the representative for 14 minutes and was not getting the assistance I needed. I asked to speak with a manager and was told he was a "Resolution Specialist" and a different person would only tell me the same thing. After several requests to speak with a Manager, I asked "So you're telling me I can't speak with a manager?" I was then put on hold and left there. After 1:09:44 hours I hung up. I'd be glad to send you a screen shot. Unfortunately, there isn't a way to attach it to this email. I guess this was his way of avoiding me getting the customer satisfaction survey. I called back at 11:15 am and Joe answered. I asked to speak with a Manager. He then asked why and suddenly he kept saying he couldn't hear me, was I there..... Seems pretty convenient to me. I immediately called back. After 10 minute hold, Jean answered. I explained I wanted to speak with a Manager. After a brief hold, she said she would transfer me to a Supervisor. Hold. I got the automated message that wait times to speak with a "Customer Service Advocate" are high! What??? I thought she was transferring me to a Supervisor. 9 minutes later Joy answered. She said she was a Resolution Specialist. I explained I has already spoken with a Resolution Specialist and did not get a resolution. Therefore, I would like to speak with a Manager. She said she would put me on a "brief' hold but that if anytime I wanted to speak with her, to let her know. After 30 minutes I tried to get her back but could not. Apparently, the same game the first "Resolution Specialist" played. I tried to submit a support ticket online to the company and it would not go through. read more

Best advice I can give anyone is to avoid Amerigas at all cost. A couple of years ago they purchased my longtime local provider and I could not be more disappointed in the quality of their customer service since the takeover. Within a year they more than doubled the annual tank rental, and added an additional delivery charge to every order. You can no longer reach a local customer service representative even if you call the local number. All calls to Amerigas are answered by an offshore call center with representatives that barely speak english. In my experience it will take your at least 30-minutes to an hour to talk to a live person and at the end of the call you will likely not have accomplished anything. The worst part is that they NEVER deliver propane when promised. If you order a refill they give you a 5-day period for delivery...but they never meet that time frame. You should expect that you will get your tank refilled 3-4 weeks later than promised. Of course if you do call to let them know that you are about to run out of propane they will be happy to put you on the emergency fill list for an additional $200.00 surcharge. read more

I was a customer for 16 years. I cancelled my service in February because they no longer serviced gas logged. I was told the tank would be picked up in April. it wasn't. I called in May was told it would be picked up at the end of May, it wasn't. i have spoke to three supervisors, been given three promise dates and as of June 21st, the tank is still in my yard. Apparently Amerigas only cares about people who is putting money in their pockets. read more

Need to give them ZERO stars. Customer service is terrible. Whatever number or email I try, no one knows who I am or can help me with anything. Every time the company we originally started out with 20 years ago is sold or merged it gets worse to the lowest point of all with AmeriGas. Our in ground tank was bought and installed by the previous owners from a company before Guilford bought them which was before AmeriGas. AmeriGas chose to always take the hardline view that they owned it and forced us to use their expensive gas. We even got another company to offer to purchase the tank from them but they would rather have kept us hostage. After years of stonewalling us they finally admitted that it was our tank but they still continue to send us a "tank rental" bill every year!! Yes, read that again...they send us a tank rental bill (this year $238.94) for a tank which they have (finally) admitted is ours - NOT THEIRS!! I have and will make it my life's work to see AmeriGas cease to exist and free all of the current hostages (that they call customers) so we can all switch to a company that values our business and doesn't engage in underhanded tactics to retain customers and attempts to extort money from them on a yearly basis. read more

I was out of town for Christmas and came home to see that my propane level had gone down faster than I anticipated, with the cold weather and all, okay. I set up a next day delivery order online at 11:19 AM Tuesday. I had to agree to the $300 expedited delivery charge. Okay, at least I'll get my propane the next day. Nope, Wednesday comes and goes, I keep checking order status online, call in, will be thereby the end of the day. Nope, no delivery. So we turn the thermostat down so we don't run out of propane. Lunchtime Thursday, no delivery, I'm really getting worried now. Finally at 1, the propane delivery shows up, I can turn the heat back up. I call to ask for a partial refund of the $300 expedited fee since they clearly did not deliver the next day. After 30 minutes of hold and going back and forth, I was disconnected, and since it was after 5, I did not call back until today. I call back, spend 40 minutes on the phone with them. They finally come back with, well, we received the order at 4:18 PM on the 27th, so the technically the next business day is the 29th, so no refund. I said wait, even if that were true, I have email and text confirmation that my order was placed before noon, at 11:19 AM on the 27th. The guy goes and talks to the billing department and says best they can do is a $20 refund of the expedited delivery fee. $20!! For delivering my gas more than 48 hours after I order it, almost 2 hours on the phone over 2 days, for lying to me until I called them on it with their own texts and emails, and they come back with that. The worst customer service I've ever had, and at my age, that is saying something. Over a lousy $100 - I was willing to pay the $200 deliver-within-3-days fee, since those are the terms they delivered, not the next day delivery they charged me $300 for, which they clearly did not execute - and they couldn't even honor that. Everything is already so expensive that when you are treated like that, it makes you realize just how unethical and incompetent some people can be. This will be my last time dealing with this company, I will be finding a local propane company that deserves my money. I recommend everyone to do the same. read more

Wish there was a way to provide a NEGATIVE star rating. Amerigas is the absolute worst company. I signed up for auto fill so i would not run out of LP. It took them over a month to get my tank filled. They told me they would be out to fill my tank several different times, and never came. I was almost out of gas by the time they came to fill my tank. They use foreign countries for customer service, and those reps only know how to read from prefilled scripts. I asked for a Supervisor to call me and was told that Supervisors do not call customers and one was not available to talk to me. Every time i called i was told it would be the next day, the next day, on and on. If you can avoid this company, do so. They are not someone i want to do business with and will be searching for another solution. They own the buried 500 gallon tank and charge for tank rental unless you buy 800 gallons a year from them. Worst business ever in whole world.Customer service is in Phillipines.Have extreme difficulty dealing with them and always they double bill,even pay in advance they bill again after delivery and refuse to deliver until you double ,sometimes triple pay.They will create fake invoices to support their fraud but as a pay in advance the bills are bogus.No way to speak to American.Every delivery takes 20 hours of phone calls and then sometimes they never come and your just SOL.No joke,s.o.l. and they expect you to pay again and again.At 600 for a half 500 gallon tank,or 4.00 per gallon,pound,whatever,highest rate around it hurts badly to be freezing because of their mistakes or common robbery.They refuse to remove their tanks and if they do they charge a lot for that I hear.Im a cold person now because I'm waiting on them to fix their errant billing so I can pay them in advance again praying they make the delivery afterwards.I honestly do not know how they are allowed to continue doing business like this.I wished I could know the proper authorities to involve to listen to a conversation with them and review my statements and show them what they are doing.One of them admitted they were robbing me and lots of them laughed.The customer service is the absolute worst in the whole world.Better off with anybody but them.Anybody. read more

If there was a way to make the stars a negative, I would do so! I placed the order to have my propane tank filled up on 1/5/2022 and was given the delivery date being 1/6/2022-1/12/2022. I did not receive my propane in that timeframe. A snow storm hit Summerfield, NC on 1/16/2022 and my propane tank ran down to 0%. I called and was told I would have a delivery that day, and it did not happen. I called the next day and was told a delivery would be there that day, and it did not happen. Same thing for the day after that. The day after that one, day 4 of being in my house with my 2 children and no heat with snow/ice outside and very low temperatures at night, I was told I would have a deliver driver by the last name of Rink delivering my propane at 5:30 PM. And low and behold it did not happen! I have called this morning and was told that they have not got my delivery date scheduled yet and that I needed to wait a little while. As it sits, I do not have propane. This company says it wants to take care of their "valued customers" and they want to "make propane Pro-You". My delivery has been listed as a 1-day priority delivery. This company is HORRIBLE! There are other propane companies in the Summerfield/Greensboro, NC area. I strongly advise calling the other ones first because anybody is better than this company! read more

Will never recommend this company to no one. We bought a house propane tank came with the house and was not used by previous owner. We decided to fill the tank in first week of November 2021 which cost 502.00 dollars even though it had some in it. They only put 28.6 gallons of propane in it for that amount. Now it gets better this company wanted to come out and service tank every week and charge 80bucks . Which is extortion plan and simple we had enough and told them 1 month after filling it up to come and pick it up after 6 calls the same day . Now we never used a drop out of it and it had 20 on Guage before filling it and it was full . Amerigas sent someone to pick it up it was full billed us 149.99 3 times . We call and tell them to take it out of our refund check here it is March picked up in December and still no refund. So from my experience Amerigas are the worst company and are crooks and don't deserve 1 star . Trying to save other poeple the headache from this company, and the thing about it is they don't give a crap. read more

There is NO communication whatsoever between Amerigas and their customers, at least that is so in our case. We cancelled our account August 2010, and asked that the tank be picked up - they tried to talk us into leaving the tank for the next owners! Our house is STILL for sale. We repeatedly asked them to cancel our account and pick up the tank since last August and the tank is still there! We have left several voicemails, with no response, and sent emails, also with no response. Today, February 17, 2011 is the FIRST time that we have talked to a live person, and she was rude. They sent us an invoice for the entire year of 2010 and finally today agreed to pick up the tank, cancel the account, void the invoice and refund us 30 cents per gallon of any propane left in tank, and there should be quite a bit, because we barely used it. She stated that she would mail the information to us in writing. Now we will have to see if they say there was any propane left! We will never do business with them again.
