Enjoyed a margarita too (which I ordered UP but received on the rocks without the staff noticing) Service was shoddy in terms of timing and attentiveness. All staff failed to inform us that they were closing while we were out on the patio so when we wanted to order more drinks and dessert they were already completely closed. This was a lunch on a Monday. Other tables were still there. Maybe they expected us to know their schedule but it was our first time there and don't live nearby. The place exceeded my expectations. Best mezcal margarita I've ever had! The server was busy (she was the only person working front of house) but still took time to make us feel attended to. It's obvious that the passion for their cuisine instills a sense of pride in their staff, and it made the experience shine. But let's talk about the food. Here's what we ordered: Mushroom soup- served as a complimentary offering before our meal arrived and holy smokes it was the best. So silky and rich- it was the soup I never knew I was missing in my life. Hummus- seemed to be a bit of a random appearance on a latin menu, but we went for it. Big mistake. Now I crave that hummus nearly daily, and nothing I can get from the grocery store will ever live up to it. Smoky, a perfect texture, served with a rolled tortilla- my GOD please order this. Crab cake- my partner's choice- I did not try it since I was so stuffed already, but apparently excellent. Chile relleno- quite a unique take on the classic- with mushroom, goat cheese and burrata, it was incredibly rich with the perfect amount of spice, too. I couldn't finish it, but I wanted to. Basically, if you live in or near Oak Park and you don't come here, you're missing out. It is expensive, so it will have to be a once-in-a-while place for us, but I'm glad we discovered it soon after moving to town! read more

Some of the best brunch food in the Chicagoland area. It's latin inspired but there is also some american breakfast items as well. If you're needing to find parking in the area, there's a large parking garage across the street but ample street parking as well. I ordered the chilaquiles and breakfast sandwich. We came here for breakfast before working at the nearby library and it was a wonderful experience. There were great veggie options. Iris, our server, was very kind, warm, and answered our questions. We got complimentary veggie-based tortilla soup samples prior to our meal; the soup was wonderful and comforting. We ordered the breakfast burritos which were very flavorful and very fresh. Dinner here is great but brunch is so fun! Good coffee and mimosas (you can order by the glass or do bottomless). I had the french toast, huge portion but nice and fluffy and tasty. Ended brunch with hot chocolate and homemade churros. AMAZING. The churros come with dolce de leche but I recommend getting hot chocolate so you can dip them. When we first starting going to Amrikas it was AMAZING. But it's been slowly declining and we are saddened by that. The pozole was so good but the last 2 times it was so salty we couldn't eat it. The first time it was salty we thought it was a one time accident. But not two times in a row. I swear they used to serve café de olla, but when we ordered it last week they said they never served it. Can anyone verify? The servers were great. They were friendly and attentive. The "hostess" on the other hand, looked like she'd rather be somewhere else. She was rude, and not pleasant to deal with at all. Unless you were friends with her. People she knew walked in and she was all smiles. If you're going ro work in this industry you need to at least fake it. ​I'm not sure what happened to Amerikas. New chef? New owner? We were so delighted by this spot! outdoor dining was gorgeous. The mezcal margarita was GREAT (be careful - very strong!). I love the food which is an upscale latin presentation but with such immense flavors-this is NOT your average mexican restaurant. It's an interesting menu wherein the plates are designed to be shared but don't think "tapas" as the portions are much larger. We find it fun to order a couple and share. Service is always fun and prompt, the ambiance/decor has got a very warm vibe, and the wine selection is excellent. The only negative that I can think of is that during dinner service when the place gets going, it can become a bit loud. Definitely not a place I would recommend for kids. As far as food is concerned, I have yet to have anything that wasn't great however I will admit that the carne asada is some of the best that I've tasted (I've actually had it several times) and the Pulpa is always cooked to perfection (we've had that one more than once too). Finally, the Chile Relleno has got to be one of the most creative and interesting preparations I've ever seen (and tasty AF too!). We are glad that this restaurant opened here in Oak Park when it did several years ago, kept itself opened through Covid, and is still doing its thing. OK, the food here is really legit. I was blown away by the cauliflower dish, and I dream about the hummus spreads. Everything was prepared perfectly, and was delicious. It also arrived at our table quickly. We were seated outside, in the sun, and the hostess (who was fantastic all around) let us move into the shade, moving a table and chair set up into a completely different location. Top notch. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars is that the service was not good. The waiter would leave the table in the middle of our ordering, did not come around frequently (I'm certain we would have gotten 2-3 more rounds of drinks/food if he had), and was very curt when responding to questions (ex. Us: "Can you tell me if the XXX has XXX ingredient? We're allergic." Him: "Um, look at the menu.") Anyway, despite the service being pretty questionable, I would definitely go back. This place was fantastic! The Oaxacan tamal was just perfect. It came with some mole souce on the side and surprisingly it just tasted as if the person in the back in the kitchen was back in Mexico adding that magic of flavor in the food. The souce was a bit spicy just as I like it. Perhaps a bit too spicy for a local but perfect for me and I'm greatful for that. I just wish I could have had three more tamales with a bunch of the sauce on top. My partner had the pozole which it tasted a bit more of a tipical chicken soup. It was missing something, not sure what. Over all, I truly enjoyed coming here. Our waiter was so pleasant, friendly and efficient. Came here for lunch. Hubby ordered the bistek faijita dish which was soooo good. The steak was so juicy and tender. He also ordered 3 different types of tacos- surf n turf, steak and Al pastor. The churro was basically regular dough extruded through a churro press and deep fried. No cinnamon, no sweet and no flavor. Great idea but a failure. The "gravy" was a manchego flavored hollandaisey sauce. Interesting but didn't save the meal. Good crust on the chicken but the meat was bad. My dining companion said the chilaquiles were mediocre. I feel bad writing this review. I've been to this restaurant 10+ times, and I've often lauded it as the best restaurant in Oak Park. Their concept is fun. It's a small, intimate space. When they would provide a free amuse bouche (rarely), you felt special, even if it was pretty much the same thing every time. The owner/manager works his tail off and has for years. The drinks were fun and delicious. I've had, multiple times, the best meal in Oak Park at this restaurant. The meals were exotic, intense, and flavorful--the bounty of a chef who cared. And, despite the rest of this review, this place still has some of the best and most consistent cauliflower and hummus appetizers that I've ever had. For real, get them. In summary: this restaurant has no business charging the prices they do--not only for the mediocre food they put out, but especially for the abysmal service they somehow consistently provide. In long format: Covid happened, and service businesses got hammered. We all did our best to support restaurants, and this was one of the first restaurants we mustered up the courage to visit. We've been to Amerikas 4 times this past year, each time making excuses for their recent unexpected inconsistency because they were struggling through something terrible. Tonight's visit tipped the scale for us. And it wasn't just us: a table next to us drove all the way in from Glen Ellyn because the reviews suggested it was the best restaurant in Oak Park. They waited 30 minutes for their cocktails, at which point they had to ASK to order dinner. When food finally arrived, it was the wrong dinner to the wrong table, and their actual food was 20 minutes away. We watched another table be seated, have drinks and dinner, pay, and leave before our neighboring table got their dinner. People need to start being honest in reviews otherwise restaurants will not fix themselves, and restaurant goers will suffer. So here we go. The service at this restaurant over the past year has been utterly ATROCIOUS. Every. Single. Time. We were patient, trying to understand the circumstances, etc..--but it's been over a year since reopening, and these meals cost over $150 (*with two drinks each). Drinks don't arrive, "coursed" meals arrive all at once. Checks take 20 minutes to pick up. Tonight, after our first drink order took 25 minutes to arrive (well after our appetizer), our waitress apologized and said our meal would "be right out." But we hadn't even ordered yet; they were that discombobulated. The meals have been pretty lackluster lately. I'm a butter boy, and oh boy is every sauce oozing butter in a way that's borderline too much even for me. Tonight, our 4oz fish dish costing $25 was burned. The lamb shank lacked seasoning and had gravy that rivaled that of a seasoning packet from the grocery store. Most dishes are some combination of the same sauce and same starch (probably farro). The intensity, flavor, passion that used to define Amerikas is gone from what I can see. Thinking wishfully, we keep trying Amerikas, and we have been let down again and again. If this meal was a reasonable cost, it wouldn't be an issue, but they are commanding an absolute premium and are delivering a middling meal and genuinely disappointing service. When our meals average $175 and the servers are this bad consistently, it needs to be addressed, and they just have simply not done that. From our perspective, sadly, we're not coming back. read more
