A nice empty table.
Elizabeth M.

Underwhelmed by our recent experience. When we came in, there was no host, so we kind of just had to stand around until someone showed up and I enthusiastically greeted us. We then asked for a table by the window (there was an empty one) and were told "no," because there was a reservation. We ended up eating our entire meal and nobody ever sat at that table. As for the food, it was surprisingly bland and service was not great. The waitress never came around to refill drinks and we had to fetch our own condiments. Had this been my first time here, I wouldn't return.

Loved Amerikas! My friend and I went there for the first time last night (Friday) pm around 730pm. It was busy and we didn't have a reservation but we were able to get seated right away. The wine was good and the food was delicious! Great flavors and lots of menu options. We shared a beet salad and tacos. The cauliflower pastor taco was the best! Loud but lively atmosphere. Small restaurant but plenty of seating. Definitely recommend!

The food was good but the service was weird. The service started off good but towards the end they were taking away cups and plates before we were done. I got to try their Old Fashioned, churro, tortilla soup, and chicken dish with tortilla chips. None of the food was spectacular but it was all on the good side. The tortilla soup shocked me because I didn't know what it was until after I tried it.

Bad service, below average food, and no ambiance. I am not sure where the high reviews are coming from. It is advertised as shareable plates, yet they were not designed or thought of as shareable concepts and the menu was all over the place. I am not sure what that was. The server had zero interaction with us besides the most basic requirements. He did not show any interest in showcasing what the restaurant had to offer. It just felt like he couldn't wait to get us out and move on to the next table. I ordered a spicy margarita and a classic margarita was brought to me. No check-ins, no "how is everything tasting?", no "is there anything else I can get for you?". It was a total of $138.25 for 5 of us, and included a 20% tip for parties of 4 or more....which is something I typically see for parties of 6 or more, at actual restaurants. This place is not up to that caliber. Luckily the overall total wasn't as bad but it truly isn't worth it. Oak Park doesn't have a lot of solid dining options to begin with so this is just another place that can be added to that list. Definitely not coming back.

Half of a heart-shaped churro with dulce con Leche

So our first visit this morning was great (we'd say 4.8 stars), especially since we are in our element sitting at a breakfast bars too and those were the only seats left at 11 am on a Sunday. We started with their somewhat famous Churros con Leche and were amazed by how light and tasty they were without being too sweet, even dunked in what seemed like corn meal and cinnamon-sweetened milk. My better half wanted steak tacos and was not disappointed with the nicely spicy and extremely tender steak. I opted for the breakfast burrito which was heavy on flavorful egg and thick chunks of pork belly bacon with a really unique spice profile and a complimentary avacado crema. The accompanying potatoes were lightly spiced and almost all perfectly crisp-roasted. Terrific bold coffee with a VERY subtle hint of cinnamon in there somewhere, a vibrant crowd and fantastic service there's a lot to like at this small Latin fusion place and we will certainly be back!

Best brunch in the oak park area. Bottomless mimosas for $25 and they will sometimes just bring a whole bottle of brut to the table. Can't go wrong. Service is always top notch.

My good friend and I visited Amerikas for brunch for the first time on Sunday. The restaurant was already bustling when we arrived, and the hostess promptly greeted us and seated us toward the back. As we browsed the menu, our server Paloma greeted us with a complimentary tortilla soup in an espresso cup which was lukewarm. She then took our drink orders. I asked for an iced tea, expecting it to be unsweetened. To my surprise, it arrived sweetened, and Paloma appeared just as caught off guard. After checking with the bar, she let us know that unsweetened iced tea wasn't available and offered an apology. I ultimately returned the drink due to an unusual aftertaste and opted not to order a replacement. We placed our food orders: my friend asked about turkey bacon for her breakfast sandwich, but the server simply said they didn't have any and didn't offer alternatives. I opted for the Chicken Jibarito. When our entrees arrived, the presentation was excellent. However, the egg on the breakfast sandwich was cooked over hard instead of the preferred doneness, and the plantains in my Jibarito could have used a few more minutes of cooking. We pointed out the overcooked egg, but the only response was a brief apology. Service was attentive, perhaps overly so--our server checked in three separate times to see if my friend had finished her meal, which became a bit disruptive. Eventually, my friend had to let her know she'd say something when she was done. A few other details detracted from the experience: the women's restroom was out of paper towels, and the decorative plants throughout the restaurant looked neglected and in need of replacement. On a positive note, the dishes we saw at neighboring tables looked delicious, and the crowd suggested the place is popular, though the noise level was quite high. All in all, it may have just been an off day? I'm open to giving Amerikas another try, as there's potential here. One suggestion: please update the menu on your website to reflect what's actually available and the increase in prices.

Me and The Queen were attending a Fever event at the Arts Center (We call it Ballet: Sleeping Beauty Dance & Light Show) and wanted to find a place nearby to eat. We couldn't get into Hemingway Bistro, so with Yelp I found this place. Fortunately they were in OpenTable and I was able to make a reservation. We found our way over to a super cute restaurant with a wonderful outdoor area (too chilly to sit out in that night). The restaurant is small but cute. Quite a few two seaters, which for me are not my favorite, but fortunately we were seated a two seater with a bigger table behind the bar and that was excellent as it gave us plenty of space for multiple dishes. We started with a tomato soup served in a small cup that was super delicious! It was so good, I got another serving of it. It didn't look like tomato soup as it was orange in color, but man oh man, it was sooo good! We got the guacamole as a starter (tomato, garlic, onions, serranos, cilantro, lime) and Tlayuda chips (Oaxacan large flat crispy tortilla). This was my first time having this type of chip and it was interesting. The presentation of the dish was interesting as well, with the guacamole centered on the plate in its own dish, surrounded by the large chips. The guacamole had a good flavor to it was fresh. Next we got the Taquitos (chicken barbacoa, cabbage, creme fraiche, queso fresco, pickled onions and salsa verde). Again, the plating was lovely, but this was just an okay dish for me. I was expecting a little more in terms of the flavors, it was a little on the bland side for me...most likely would not order this again. That said, The Queen loved them and I saw quite a few orders coming out of the kitchen. Next came the Pulpo (Spanish octopus with fingerling potatoes, roasted garbanzo beans, cherry tomatoes, chorizo, mexican onions). This was a wonderful dish, with the octopus cooked to perfection. The potatoes we very good, and the garbanzo beans were interesting as they were roasted and on the crunchy side. This was a winner for me and The Queen. Our last dish was the Barbacoa lamb shank with mushroom risotto. The lamb just came off the bone. My only problem with this dish was the size and the fact I had to share it. The whole Latin fusion aspect of this dish came through for me as I don't typically think lamb or risotto in relationship to barbacoa. Although we did not get it, I saw a few tables order an interesting dish with a wild presentation of dry ice smoke. Turns out it was the salmon tartar. I will most definitely come back to try that as the description sounded great and I loved the overall presentation. The Queen got a cocktail called Ipanema Sunset (Catan Pisco, lemon, passionfruit syrup, orange flower water, eucalyptus/herb mix, aquafaba). I am not a big cocktail person, but this was nice and refreshing. The flavors were nice, with the orange and passionfruit coming through. I was happy to see that they also had bubbles on the menu. We finished off the meal with a churro, which was on the house. I am not a big dessert person, but when I do eat a pastry, I like it warm. In this case I did not even have to ask if they could warm it up as came to table already warm. Overall this was a nice meal...the dishes that worked were well executed and I would definitely come back here for a meal.

What a delightful experience! The decor is beautiful and inviting, and you're taken out of the noise from the street outside. I was surprised to be greeted with a small cup of INCREDIBLE tortilla soup, which was hearty and flavorful. I would definitely recommend ordering a full portion of it. My main dish was Pastor Fried Rice. The name is too "blah" for such an amazing dish. Very tender pork, expertly seasoned with fresh vegetables and a robust sauce that coated the rice and my eggs so well. The service was very professional and friendly, and the food came quickly after we ordered. We noticed that a party of about a dozen people were in the restaurant enjoying themselves, and several people came in alone while we were there, so I think it's safe to say that this place is great for singles or groups. But I would recommend making a reservation in either case.

Breakfast Burrito and French Toast

Ordered breakfast from here and wow. We got the breakfast burrito and it was really delicious. Especially the potatos with spices and onions. So delish. We also got the French toast and it was unbelievable. Soaked in a sweetened condensed milk but not as thick with bananas and strawberries and slivered almonds on top. This breakfast is 5 stars and highly recommended.

Excellent Latin fusion! Came here with my family for lunch and it did not disappoint! Being from Phoenix, I can be a bit particular about my Mexican and Mexican adjacent food. This was awesome! Service was incredible, they were super accommodating and kind especially to my son! My son had the kids cheese quesadillas and the portion was massive we brought a lot home! We also shared guac which came with big blue corn fried tortillas. I got veggie enchiladas, my mom got a kale salad with chicken, my dad and sister both got eggs either toast and potatoes, my dad had bacon my sister subbed avocado. They brought us out a little sample each of their vegan tortilla soup. I loved it, it had a little kick of spice to it! The food was really good and huge portions. We had plenty left over. I loved the greens on top of mine, yum! Rice and beans were good too! I tried some of the potatoes and well and they were tasty! Slightly pricey but it is a nicer restaurant. Super loud in here but it was pretty busy when we went for lunch on a Sunday! Loved the fun wall in the back. Would for sure recommend checking this place out. Love that they have coffee and yummy sounding cocktails as well!

The meal started with complimentary chips and salsa. I ordered a mezcal margarita (fruta picanta) and my friend got a mango cocktail (mangasa). I liked mine a lot, my friend didn't care for the tajin rim on hers, and the waiter offered to replace it, but she stuck with it and liked it in the end. There were so many great sounding things on the menu, with gluten free and vegetarian options. We ended up splitting the calabaza- an acorn squash stuffed with mushroom risotto and also the wild mushroom tostada. The calabaza was great for winter, warm and filling. The tostada was lighter but really delicious, it was probably my favorite of the two. It was a great dinner, that I would definitely visit again if I'm back in town.
