Came for restaurant week and it didn't disappoint! We made reservations for Saturday night and luckily we did since the place was busy and on the smaller side. For restaurant week we had a special set menu: burrata, robalo, carne asada, and chocolate mousse. I also had a glass of ipanema sunset which was very sweet but just what I like! We came to have brunch here with bottomless mimosas and loved it. I have ordered food from here on other occasions as well and have always felt that the food was good. The hot chocolate is exceptional and they have an option to have it loaded with a churro and dessert toppings which looks great. I was impressed with the flavor in the cauliflower taco I ordered, as well as the flavor in the guacamole. It is definitely a must try for breakfast in Oak Park! Wow, what a hidden gem this place is!! Ambiance, when you walk in you're met with beautiful decor, amazing smells of yummy foods, and friendly smiling staff...and a gorgeously decorated and fully stocked bar area. The service: It was superb. Our waitress was very attentive, full of great suggestions and even offered us a free sample of the delicious soup in the cutest little cups. The Aesthetics: clean, beautifully unkept and decorated, a fun, sleek and chic layout. Perfect for a date with your love or besties. The food: Everything we had to beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. I mean wow, I cannot wait to come back to taste it all. I really enjoyed it and so did my partner. Really cute little place in oak park! Service was friendly and food was very good! I don't think it was quite as mindblowing for brunch as I expected from the reviews but maybe that is more for dinner. Overall it was solid and everyone was full. Hot chocolate was really cozy and delicious for a cold day and they also gave us complimentary little tortilla soup cups that were the best thing I tasted there! If you're craving a very unique brunch, go here! It's Latin American and brunch combined. The ambience was nice and we were lucky enough to find parking right away in downtown oak park! We had the chicken jibarito with fries and breakfast burrito with potatoes. Both were filling! We opted to get the hot chocolate and Oreo cheesecake. Tbh the star of the show was the hot chocolate! This place is 20-30 min from the city but if you ask me if I would come again, my answer is heck yes!! Totally worth it to drive from the city. I would tell anyone to make the commute and try this place out. The food is good and the service is also amazing. I went for brunch so this review is about their breakfast/brunch menu. I got the French toast. It has dulce de leche and it tastes amazing but not overly sweet. My dad got Chilaquiles and although they weren't spicy, they had a great taste. My brother got the breakfast burrito and he really liked it also. The churro is crunchy with great flavor. All in all, I would totally come back and hoping to go back for dinner at some point! read more

Came here for brunch today (Saturday mid morning) with my guy a friend and family friend. It was quite busy in oak park and yet this place has space so we said why not? We were instantly greeted and sat in the best spot (personal preference). It was a 4-5 seater table in the front window of the restaurant. Our server was the best - so young and filled with joy. Super ready and attentive to our needs. We ordered three different meals and I got a specialty cocktail. The ambiance - small, quaint and hipster Hispanic wall art. Very chill on the inside or if you choose to sit outside. I would say the tables are naturally close together. We just got a good spot at a good time. Server: shout out to our sever. Young and female. She knew what she was doing! And she had great add on recommendations. Thanks to her I got a good drink that I felt matched my food. The food: so I personally ordered the chicken jibarito. I loved the tenderness of the chicken and the fact that it was pulled chicken. However I could've done for more flavor or seasoning. The fried plantain was too thin and some of meaty goodness kept slipping out. It automatically came with a tortilla soup which was fitting. The soup is a bisque topped with Tortilla shells and cheese. Not the two folks that ordered steak and eggs definitely stated they would recommend folks request for the steak to be medium. Not medium well. The flavors were packed and if was delectable yet a smidge too tough for their liking. Ask for extra chimichurri sauce if you want more. They're super nice about it. The chilaquiles with chorizo was smacking per my friend's response and she would order it again. Brunch is definitely a 9/10. (Can't do halves on Yelp). Would I return for dinner? Visited Amerikas for the first time recently for breakfast. It was so delicious - I wish I hadn't waited so long. There were two of us and the little tortilla soup starter was so cute - and perfect since it was pretty chilly outside! I had a breakfast burrito and I was eying my breakfast companion's French toast...I managed to snag a quick bite - really tasty, fresh, hot, flavorful. The churros were good but we definitely didn't need them with all of the other food we had. All in all, I'd definitely return. It can get a little chilly at the seats by the door but the friendly service and delicious food will bring me back again. Definitely a great spot in the area! read more

I had the NY steak and chilaquiles. I was craving chilaquiles so we found this spot and I enjoyed them! I like my chilaquiles on the crunchy side so I was happy to see these were crunchy. The steak was cooked to my liking and it wasn't cheery. The chimichurri sauce on the steak didn't taste like other chimichurri sauces I've had. It was still good tho! A little more lime flavor and not as oily. Their churro was also very delicious! Prob one of the best churros I've had at a restaurant. The restaurant was a smaller space but cute! Three of us found ourselves in Oak Park, IL this past Saturday night at around dinner time and all felt like something spicy for dinner. Just having Thai food a few nights ago, Mexican sounded great. Not knowing this area at all, I pull out my phone and hit Yelp, Infatuation, Google and Siri for our Mexican dinner. The results on all four of these platforms were an unanimous decision for Amerikas! I quickly called Amerikas (as Open Table had no reservations left) and they told us to come on by as they had a table open - now! This lovely diner / cafe with indoor and outdoor seating was quiet, pristine and had a beautiful menu. We had: * Guacamole - with tomato, garlic, onions, serranos, cilantro, lime and tlayuda chips (Oaxacan large flat crispy tortilla) that was truly wonderful * Taqitos with chicken barbacoa, cabbage, creme fraiche, queso fresco, pickled onions, salsa verde - these were fantastic * Pork Tacos - made with beer-braised pork shoulder, ancho, guajillo, roasted pineapple, onions - Wow, sensational * Surf and Turf Tacos - made with shrimp, chorizo, potatoes, caramelized onions - I loved these tacos * We also ordered a beautiful Remolacha Beet Salad that wasn't on the menu that was very good Their bar was working on "All Cylinders" that concocted one of the better gin martinis I've ever had. My wife had a refreshing mezcal and soda cocktail and my sister had very tasty Albarino Columna Spanish wine This extremely enjoyable Latin Fusion restaurant really impressed me not only with its excellent food, but their service, ambiance and setting was stellar. Went to this restaurant yesterday for the first time for brunch. It's a small restaurant with great service and food. My son lives in Forest Park and recommended this restaurant. My husband ordered the steak chilequiles. It looked amazing. I snagged a taste and the steak was tender and grilled to a perfect medium rare. I opted for the egg burrito served with roasted potatoes and a salad. The burrito was filing and very good. I recommend making reservations because it is a small restaurant. They have maybe a dozen tables and also a counter to sit at. I would definitely go back to dine here again. read more

Sadly this place was very underwhelming. The photos look amazing but the food lacks. Yelp typically doesn't steer me wrong, but there is the rare occasion that it does and this "5 star" joint definitely disappoints. How they have 5 stars is beyond me. Came for lunch for my friends birthday on a Wednesday afternoon. Mezcal Jamaica margaritas were ok. My friends ordered the steak sandwiches and I ordered the steak and eggs. My steak was overcooked so I had to send it back and by the time I got my other steak I was done with my eggs and potato's and I was over it. I ate half which was very tough to chew. The steak itself tasted like lime. I make chimichurri and this chimichurri wasn't it. $27 wasted in my opinion. The steak sandwiches were dry and bland. The server encouraged the steak sandwiches saying there were really good and they were really disappointing. We ordered the churro dessert and they came back saying they had no ice cream. We had the churros and they were pretty bland and I wasn't a fan of the dulce de leche that accompanied it. I will say the server Ruby was great. The place is cute but some AC on a hot summer afternoon wouldn't hurt. Idk but when I go out to eat I want to eat GOOD FOOD and this place definitely missed the mark. Super fun! I don't know why I have never been here before, but I made up for it by visiting twice this weekend: lunch yesterday and breakfast bright and early at 9 AM today! I had the vegetarian enchiladas for both meals, as my diet is somewhat limited. Loved them! My dates had the chicken sandwich, breakfast burrito, and the egg-salsa dish that I can't recall the name of. Everyone loved their meals. Fresh-squeezed orange juice was delicious. Great service, very attentive. I wish that I could have ordered a side of something, like rice or beans, as I have a pretty hearty appetite, but I didn't see that option. The first thing that I noticed about Amerikas was the super lively and bright ambiance. I went I on a Saturday night with my wife, so I wasn't surprised by all of the people dining and having a good time, and as I ate my dinner I definitely learned why. The decor is bright and fun. The walls are lined by mutuals, mostly yellow, with big splashes of color. I liked how then kept the lights on to keep the atmosphere bright and fun. The food was delicious too. My wife and ordered the pulpo, barbacoa, tacos (shrimp and pork shoulder), tostada de pescado, ceviche and the dragon fruit cheesecake for dessert. I enjoyed all of the dishes, my favorites were the barbacoa and the pulpo. The barbacoa was super flavorful and fell right off the bone, no knife was need. The pulpo was cooked to perfection and was tender and delicious. The risk with pulpo is that it can be chewy and tough, definitely not the case here. One note, the tostada for the tostada de pescado seem a bit too dry, but the flavor of fresh seafood made up for it. If you want a fun show with your food, order the ceviche, it comes out with a cool smoke effect. Overall, the service was fast and friendly, and the overall experience at the restaurant was enjoyable. While they don't have a parking lot, street parking is cheap (at least compared to Chicago) and plentiful. Amerikas is a must visit in Oak Park. read more

If you're looking for a modest happy hour and tapas style Latin food, Amerikas is for you! Happy Hour is from 3-6PM, and includes beer and margaritas only. I was a little disappointed that they only had lime and hibiscus flavors for margaritas, but I was grateful I could try a new margarita flavor. Frozen margarita lovers will need to accept their drink on the rocks here. The star of the show wasn't the drinks at all but the food. While I would have appreciated the ability to choose a side, like rice or beans, the chicken taquitos were absolutely delectable; they were hot, crispy, and bursting with flavor. The plate came with 4 well stuffed taquitos and a lively yet spicy verde sauce. I removed the cabbage and crème fraiche and wished the plate didn't have to end. This is a great spot to grab food that don't sit heavy on your stomach (think Seasons 52). Fabulous lunch on a Monday early afternoon! Lots of seating indoor and outdoors, I loved the decor too. Service was sweet, friendly and prompt. We got the chilaquiles, tostadas and Huevos rancheros. I also got a drip coffee which was nice and hot, a little bit naturally sweet. Our meals were ample, flavorful and well presented. We all agreed my toastadas were the prettiest. My bf and I wanted to try something new and ventured outside of the city - we were eager for good food at Amerikas but wasn't prepared to walk away feeling like we just experienced one of the best meals we've ever had in the whole Chicago/surburb area. Couldn't stop talking about it afterwards! We specifically came for Valentine's Day and they had a special menu for that night. They started us off with an amuse-bouche which was already such a tasty start the meal. Lobster ceviche - best ceviche I've ever had. First, the presentation was beautiful. Second, the passion fruit and foam on top just added so much freshness and texture. The plump pieces of lobster were accompanied by a well-rounded burst of flavors in every bite. Tlayuda - this was so fun to eat/share. Breaking it up piece by piece throughout the course of our meal over drinks and a good conservation couldn't be beat. Mussels - I'm a fan of both coconut and lemongrass so this was another winner. The mussels were plump and incredibly tender. It came with garlic toast which was dangerously addicting, perfect for dipping into the sauce. Not only were we impressed with the food, but service went smoothly. After many failed attempts (on our part), we finally got in here for dinner. We chose it for a post-piano-recital meal and took a group of 6. I loved that the menu was small, but not suffering from real choices. We got a ton of food and loved just about everything we ordered! The service was stellar and they accommodated every "ask" for things left off or on the side. We had the pork loin, the lamb shank, the acorn squash, the pear and arugula, the roast chicken and the bass as mains and then just about everyone at the table also had a taco of either barbacoa pork or shrimp (minus the chorizo). The starter of the tortilla soup was delicious as well! Dessert was good, but not as good as just a plain churro! This is a very nice place. I will say the inside can get pretty hot, though. I didn't feel much air conditioning, so I was fanning myself with my menu, lol. They serve tapas-style, but you definitely get plenty to share. The food is very flavorful and definitely a pleasant experience. The Carne Asada... AMAZINGLY FLAVORFUL. I came to a party that had tacos and churros (I hope I spelled that right... maybe I didn't, lol). Everyone enjoyed their meals and their drinks. Greetings Foodzies, today I have a double review for you. We'll start with breakfast; Amerikas restaurant (Nuevo Latino Cuisine) at 734 w Lake St. in Oak Park. It was a nice quiet spot with table seating and a large bar with seating. The staff was very friendly and polite. I was surprised that the music was alternative instead of traditional Mexican music. Glenda started off with a Mexican style hot chocolate (hot chocolate with cinnamon) it had a nice smooth chocolate flavor. We had Huevos Con Chorizo (Mexican chorizo, pico de gallo, queso Oaxaca, tortillas and beans). It had a array of flavors and when you mixed it together was very good. Then a breakfast burrito, (scrambled eggs, bacon, guacamole, queso chinuahua, roasted potatoes) it was kind of bland but when you added the sauce it was delicious. I had the Skillet Al Pastor (pork shoulder, chayotes, mushrooms, cabbage, pineapple, rice) the pork was unevenly done, some pieces were perfect and others were tough. The flavor was tasty with the mix of savory and sweet. We ended with churros, you could tell they weren't fresh and they were dry in the middle. The dipping sauce was thin and really only gave moisture to the churros. They gave us a sample of their tortilla soup. That was very good. They have their own Mezcal which we didn't like, it was harsh and had a medicinal taste. I give them 3 stars read more

I've visited Amerikas a few times I love their brunch options and decided to try their dinner menu. Dinner is served everyday except Mondays. We decided to try the barbacoa, it was so delicious and falling off the bone! We also had the Coliflor which is one of their vegetarian options. I'm not vegetarian but truly did enjoy it! They have several vegetarian options. Everything was seasoned to perfection. They also have a wide range of cocktails, as well as some mocktail options which were delicious. I recommend the blood orange pisco (alcoholic) and the passion fruit mocktail (non-alcoholic). Also you can't leave without having the dragon fruit cheesecake! read more
