Strike 2. The fried chicken and churro. Waitress said it was a breast flattened. It wasn't. It was cobbled together thigh and leg pieces. Tasted gamey likely from the refrigerator. The churro was basically regular dough extruded through a churro press and deep fried. No cinnamon, no sweet and no flavor. Great idea but a failure. The "gravy" was a manchego flavored hollandaisey sauce. Interesting but didn't save the meal. Good crust on the chicken but the meat was bad. My dining companion said the chilaquiles were mediocre. This is truly one of the greatest restaurants in Oak Park, itself a great hub for food. Service is incredible. I'm talking five star restaurant incredible. I feel bad writing this review. I've been to this restaurant 10+ times, and I've often lauded it as the best restaurant in Oak Park. Their concept is fun. It's a small, intimate space. When they would provide a free amuse bouche (rarely), you felt special, even if it was pretty much the same thing every time. The owner/manager works his tail off and has for years. The drinks were fun and delicious. I've had, multiple times, the best meal in Oak Park at this restaurant. The meals were exotic, intense, and flavorful--the bounty of a chef who cared. And, despite the rest of this review, this place still has some of the best and most consistent cauliflower and hummus appetizers that I've ever had. For real, get them. In summary: this restaurant has no business charging the prices they do--not only for the mediocre food they put out, but especially for the abysmal service they somehow consistently provide. In long format: Covid happened, and service businesses got hammered. We all did our best to support restaurants, and this was one of the first restaurants we mustered up the courage to visit. We've been to Amerikas 4 times this past year, each time making excuses for their recent unexpected inconsistency because they were struggling through something terrible. Tonight's visit tipped the scale for us. And it wasn't just us: a table next to us drove all the way in from Glen Ellyn because the reviews suggested it was the best restaurant in Oak Park. They waited 30 minutes for their cocktails, at which point they had to ASK to order dinner. When food finally arrived, it was the wrong dinner to the wrong table, and their actual food was 20 minutes away. We watched another table be seated, have drinks and dinner, pay, and leave before our neighboring table got their dinner. People need to start being honest in reviews otherwise restaurants will not fix themselves, and restaurant goers will suffer. So here we go. The service at this restaurant over the past year has been utterly ATROCIOUS. Every. Single. Time. We were patient, trying to understand the circumstances, etc..--but it's been over a year since reopening, and these meals cost over $150 (*with two drinks each). Drinks don't arrive, "coursed" meals arrive all at once. Checks take 20 minutes to pick up. Tonight, after our first drink order took 25 minutes to arrive (well after our appetizer), our waitress apologized and said our meal would "be right out." But we hadn't even ordered yet; they were that discombobulated. The meals have been pretty lackluster lately. I'm a butter boy, and oh boy is every sauce oozing butter in a way that's borderline too much even for me. Tonight, our 4oz fish dish costing $25 was burned. The lamb shank lacked seasoning and had gravy that rivaled that of a seasoning packet from the grocery store. Most dishes are some combination of the same sauce and same starch (probably farro). The intensity, flavor, passion that used to define Amerikas is gone from what I can see. Thinking wishfully, we keep trying Amerikas, and we have been let down again and again. If this meal was a reasonable cost, it wouldn't be an issue, but they are commanding an absolute premium and are delivering a middling meal and genuinely disappointing service. When our meals average $175 and the servers are this bad consistently, it needs to be addressed, and they just have simply not done that. From our perspective, sadly, we're not coming back. read more

Went here with a co-work on a Thursday around 5:30 and really enjoyed the place. The restaurant was quiet they offered inside and outside seating. The food was good and the servers were nice and professional. The only reason I didn't give it 5 is because the location is in Oak Park and they have street parking which is a gamble. read more

I recently came to Amerikas for their Mother's Day brunch. The restaurant is beautiful, small and but super cozy. The restaurant has very strict policy on tables that you can only be at the table for an hour and they must turn the table over for the next party quickly. So you feel somewhat rushed to eat. We were a party of 5 and 3 of 5 the food was amazing. The waiter incorrectly put in the wrong order for one guest and the second plate was very cold. Then we had to ask our server for our churros and the server forgot our churros. Overall not too bad of experience but would have like to enjoyed the brunch a little more. read more

We sat outside. It's on a busy social street so there wasn't a lot of space but they had a number of umbrellas that provided great shade. I got a pomegranate mimosa and eggs Benedict with chorizo. The mimosa was OK but nothing memorable. I did like the eggs Benedict. The English muffin worked with the dish (meaning i wasn't sawing at the bread to get a bite with the egg and chorizo which sometimes can happen) and the flavors complemented each other. I did ask for hot sauce ultimately because I personality like a little spice especially on hot days. They gave me this mustard sauce instead which had no extra kick to it. I usually love this restaurant. We arrived at 6 pm and our server was Erick. One person didn't like her drink and wanted to exchange it. After that our server was incredibly rude. We ordered 5 entrees. We received 2 entrees within a reasonable time. Meanwhile we saw people being seated and served and leaving. But an hour and 45 minutes later we had not received any of the other 3 entrees so we decided to leave and tried to cancel the remaining three entrees. Et Voila! one of the entrees magically appears. Our server then did cancel the other two (Obviously they had not even been started.) We then decided to leave a 10% tip (we usually are good tippers at 20 to 25%). My boyfriend sent me this place on Instagram, SO GALD HE DID. Also, our waiter was a girl I knew from grammar school. (Dani if you're readying this sorry I was a bit hungover, but it was nice to see you!) Back to business, food was fire, drinks were fire, churros - FIRE. The plan was to get brunch with bottomless mimosas (1.5 hr limit) but instead I got a Bloody Mary, and a Michelada w Pacifico beer. I ended up giving my partner the Bloody Mary (nothing wrong with it but our friend got a michelada and I wanted that more and I knew I wasn't going to be able to drink both :] hence above, I was hungover) Michelada did not disappoint it was delicious with a cooked shrimp to top it off. I got the chilaquiles with steak, the portion was fair and the food was very flavorful. We ordered a guac appetizer and it was one of the best guacs I've tried. If you go get the spicy salsa they have, SUPER SPICEY SUPER GOOD. For dessert they have churros, I was already full my partner ordered two knowing I would want one. I ate both, minus his bite. They were good, I would have preferred it stuffed but they weren't bad... I ate both. Our friend ordered a hot chocolate with rumchata, it would have been great with the churros if it wasn't so hot out. Over all this place is a go, everything was good. Plus Oak Park is such a cute place to be at. Oh also the place is small and it gets pretty hot inside, a reservation is recommended and maybe sit outside! read more

We were unable to get a seat for a walk-in on the first attempt so we made a reservation for Sweetest Day. Before our meal, we sampled butternut squash soup. We split the taquetos, steak, and pork chop (at least 3 per couple). You can't beat that presentation. I like dishes that tell a story and each one told me something different. All of it was flavorful but my favorite was the pork chop which included seasoned vegetables & extremely mashed potatoes. The service was impeccable - friendly and attentive. We didn't have to beg anyone to fill up my date's water glass (he drinks like a fish). The plugs on top of the seats to charge your phone is a nice touch that you don't see at very many restaurants. My boyfriend enjoyed his eggs Benedict and the steak was marinated perfectly, but I was not feeling the eggs for some reason my stomach felt a little uneasy after I ate a few bites of it. Amerikas is a lovely neighborhood restaurant that is definitely must try especially if you love authentic Mexican food. I had guacamole & chips, carne asada tacos and a shredded chicken tamale. The tacos and tamales are smaller so definitely order multiple items! Everything was full of flavor and cooked to perfection. They also offer $25 bottomless mimosas EVERYDAY (huge plus).
