The rest, not so much. At night noone answered Dad's call button. My largest concern is the diet. We have instructed them repeatedly on Dad's dietary restrictions, and still someone has to be there for every meal. They have an issue with the room assignments so that every meal comes to him with someone else's name on it. No idea how they think they can keep up with dietary needs of everyone. We've brought up our own fresh vegetables and fruit so that he has something healthy to eat each meal which has helped alot. His blood sugar is now normal. The last two nights theyve sent Dad to the hospital only to have the hospital return him the same night. Actually, this is the 7th day he's been there and they've sent him to the hospital 3 times. He is definitely in worse shape than when we checked him in. I read other comments on the 'speech therapy'. We had that and dementia screening, too. Something every day. He just wants to use a walker so he can go home. I'll post back. OK, so Dad passed today. He was old and his organs failed him. But. The remington folks ignored Dads DNR. Said it wasnt adequate. And my mom had to watch the Remington 'nurse' beat on Dads chest for 4 minutes until she got a heartbeat so that the ambulance drivers could take him to the hospital where he officially died. Sigh. Long story short. If youre healthy, this place can work for you. If you need nursing care, this nursing home lacks. Severely lacks.

Wonderful Care at San Remo…read more I want to take a moment to recognize two amazing people at San Remo--Kim, the social worker, and Carmen, the Director of Nursing (DON). Kim has been absolutely wonderful. She is compassionate, caring, patient, and truly takes the time to listen. She makes you feel heard and respected, and you can tell that she genuinely cares about the residents and their families. Having someone like Kim available during a difficult time makes such a difference. Carmen is also an outstanding DON. Her leadership, professionalism, compassion, and dedication to the residents truly stand out. She is approachable, attentive, and demonstrates that she takes the responsibility of caring for residents seriously. Both Kim and Carmen have shown me that there are still people in healthcare who genuinely care about the people they serve. Their kindness and willingness to help do not go unnoticed. My mom's husband had…read morethe beginnings of dementia and my Mom was unable to walk too well or feed herself independently. They had to be moved several times due to his issues but the staff was always caring and pleasant. I learned so much what these nurses had to endure daily, I have a new respect for what they do at Walnut Place. The head nurses communicated very honestly with me and my brother on what steps would be best for both of them. It is always hard to move your loved ones to a nursing facility from their home. But I truly feel that Walnut Place was the best place for them.

My dad was a resident at Walnut Place from July 2021 through December 2021. At the time, my dad was…read more85 years old and had been diagnosed with dementia for approximately 2 years. He was initially hospitalized at Presbyterian for a UTI in July and the doctors there recommended to my mom that he be transferred to Walnut Place for further treatment/rehab. I am unsure if there is an affiliation between Presbyterian and Walnut Place but it seems likely that there is. My mom took Presbyterian's recommendation at face value and had my dad moved to Walnut Place.  My dad lived on 3 different floors while he was a resident there. It was in his first room on the 2nd floor where he tried to get out of bed. This resulted in him falling and fracturing his wrist. To this day, it is unclear to me why he was in a bed without bars since this would have likely impeded this activity. The staff on this floor was fairly hit and miss. Shortly after this, my dad moved to the Rehab To Home program. These rooms are located on the 6th floor, and this was his best experience. The rooms were all clean with small kitchenettes, the staff was friendly, and my dad's needs were attended to, such as cutting up his food & feeding him, changing him regularly, clean bed linens etc. His last and final move to the 3rd floor is the primary reason for this rating. This floor always smelled like urine. As soon as you stepped off the elevator, it hit you in the face. I saw at least 3 roaches in my dad's room during his time there. Face masks, paper towels, and wet wipes were scarce if existent at all. We never found one of the foot pedals for his personal wheelchair after it mysteriously disappeared.  I would do my best to come to Dallas 2 weekends a month. It never failed that when I would arrive on a Friday or Saturday morning that I would find my dad with food all over his face and clothing. My dad could not cut up food or feed himself at this time and there were instructions for staff to assist with this. When I would ask staff about this, they would get short and defensive with me and tell me they did not have the time. Even more disturbing than the food was the fact that my dad was often soaked in urine and occasionally soiled with feces. My dad was still lucid at this point and he was very embarrassed about this. I can only speculate that my dad was in similar conditions on the mornings that I was not there.  My dad was moved to this floor because staff had determined that he required 2 staff members to assist him, and that was not a "service" available through the Rehab To Home program. Good luck finding 2 staff members on the 3rd floor who were not only available but also willing to help. I would track someone down and either get told, I'll be there soon (and not see this person again), or I'd be met with attitude about how busy they were, my dad's room wasn't in their section etc. One aide practically yelled her schedule in my face. I would offer to help and sometimes that would result in him getting cleaned up sooner but then there was no reason for him to be on this floor if the 2-person requirement couldn't be met with current staffing. It was $6000/month for this "service." Do your due diligence now, folks. If you have an aging parent or family member, start looking at facilities now. Have a list of questions. What is the turnover rate? How many staff are there during busy times such as meal services? Is there a daily checklist for each resident? Who maintains that checklist and ensures that each item is carried out? What accommodations do they provide and how does the facility ensure that these accommodations are implemented?  Ask for recommendations from trusted friends and family. Do not just take your loved one to the first facility that a hospital or doctor recommends. We were lucky that my mom could sit with my dad a lot of the day to ensure he received the care he needed. Not all residents were that fortunate.  There were some very kind staff who worked at Walnut Place, and I always made sure they knew how much we appreciated them. The arts & crafts ladies were so sweet and you could tell they loved their jobs. The front desk staff, the physical therapists, and the doctors were all knowledgeable and helpful. But the aides here, who are the backbone of this facility (and this industry, in general), were overall unreliable, unpleasant & not helpful. If they are indifferent and/or negligent, it is your loved ones who will suffer as a result.

Team had no coordination of his day to day needs. The social worker never contacted us with his plan of care or progress. When we initiated contact, he did not follow through with insuring proper care was given. We met with the Healthcare Resort leadership. They had little information about my parent as their excuse was that we just started. I am concerned for other patients. This facility has a severe quality of care issues. My family of which 4 of us are either clinicians or work for CMS were shocked at patient treatment. To reiterate another persons comment, the patient floors smell horrible and there are constant call buttons going off while staff scrolling on their phone. We moved my parent to another facility which was a total 180. I am ashamed that providers like this exist for patients that needs these critical service to maintain a decent quality of life and care.

My husband was a resident at Lindan Park for 6 weeks before his death. He entered the facility as…read morea rehab patient, but his care turned to long-term care as his health deteriorated. He received wonderful care at this facility. They watched over his condition and paid special attention as his health declined. He was kept clean and with each new challenge that came along, they were aware of each problem and acted in his best interest. Although he was on a special diet, I observed that the residents had very good food. Across from his room was an activity board that showed all of the interesting activities that were offered to all of the residents. Lindan Park smelled very clean. It did not have the "Nursing Home Odor". As my husband's life was slipping away, the staff was very kind to both my husband and me. When I didn't leave his side, they provided meals for me and were so understanding of my situation. It had not been my intention to put my husband into a nursing home. I kept him at home as long as I could. But, the time came when I could no longer care for him. I'm so thankful that Linda Park was there to do for him what I could not. She is the most caring and most gentle person I have ever met. From the first day she treated me like we were old friends. I was comfortable around her from the first minute we met (which I feel is super important when it comes to someone in the medical field). She sympathizes with the fact I'm in pain and does everything in her power to make the cleaning of the wound as bearable as possible (if you've never had a bad burn, this is practically impossible). Including Laura, my case manager, she went out of her way to find me a nursing facility to go to. All in all my experience was very good and I will be telling my insurance company the same thing.

She laid in bed all night in feces while continuously pressing the nurse call button, but no one came. She even tried to sit on the side of the bed thinking the bed alarm would go off. The morning nurse came in and the call button was not plugged in and the bed alarm was not set. Mom had trouble breathing and had to request a chest X-ray which determined she had pneumonia. No breathing treatments were provided and several times her oxygen wasn't even on. I removed her against doctors orders on a Saturday and transported her by ambulance to a hospital. The EMTs said this is common with this facility. Do not let your loved in suffer here.
