Met up with a couple of high school girlfriends for a weekend in New York and the voco Times Square South ended up being a great pick. Location is the real story. We were a quick walk from Penn Station, an easy stroll over to the Theater District for a show, and close enough to Times Square to take it in and still easily escape it when we didn't. We either walked everywhere or hopped on the subway, and the hotel made both a breeze. The room was also a nice surprise. Surprisingly large by NYC standards, which any New York traveler knows is not something you can count on. The staff was great across the board. They made holding my bags before check-in and after checkout completely painless, which sounds like a small thing until you're trying to enjoy your last few hours in the city without dragging a suitcase around. I grabbed coffee in the lobby most mornings, which was a nice little ritual before heading out. The outdoor terrace was an unexpected favorite. We sat out there in the mornings and it completely makes you forget you're in New York, in the best way. A few honest notes: the walls are on the thinner side, so you'll catch some hallway and neighbor sounds. Nothing that ruined a night, but worth knowing if you're a light sleeper. Bring earplugs and you're set. Would happily stay here again anytime. read more

We stayed at Voco for 3 nights and found it just okay. The location was convenient (short walk from the subway and from MSG), but far from charming. The best part of this hotel was probably the spacious lobby, which looked brand new and always had spa water available. Usually I get upgraded to a nicer room through IHG status, but this time it didn't happen. Our room was clean but tiny, which is pretty typical for Manhattan hotels. There were only 2 elevators (but one was under repair for part of the time) and so many floors, it would often take us a while to get up or down. Other than that, we had no complaints! read more

TL;DR: Arrived after an overnight cross-country flight, was told my "profile is restricted" on the day of checkin with zero explanation, and was forced out into the rain at 7 a.m. with all my luggage. I have never stayed here before and have no history of any issue with IHG. I believe I was discriminated against based on my race. Please think twice before booking here. No Response to Formal Complaint I emailed a formal complaint to nycxv-fom@sbcos.com and filed cases through IHG over a week ago and have received no response. I'm posting this publicly because the hotel clearly has no interest in addressing what happened. If management truly cares about customer experience, they should respond to emails rather than pretending everything is resolved by simply directing guests to contact them. What Happened On the morning of my scheduled check-in, I traveled to the property and dropped off my luggage with the front desk. Shortly after, I received a text message stating that my "profile has been restricted from staying on the property" and that I needed to return to collect my belongings. No explanation was provided--despite my repeatedly asking. Why This Makes No Sense 1. I have never stayed at this hotel before. 2. I have never been informed of any restriction, misconduct issue, or ban on my IHG account. 3. If my profile were truly restricted, why was I able to book a reservation in the first place? And why was I only notified on the day of check-in? How the Staff Treated Us At approximately 7 a.m., during rainy weather, with our luggage already removed from the hotel, I respectfully asked whether I could remain briefly in the lobby to contact IHG customer service and arrange alternative accommodations. **They refused.** Staff repeatedly instructed us to leave the property immediately--before any explanation or resolution was offered. The Full Picture I had just arrived in NYC after an overnight red-eye flight across the country. After traveling through the night, I arrived early in the morning expecting to check into a reservation booked well in advance. Instead, I found myself stranded in the rain with my luggage and nowhere to go. The refusal to explain, the refusal to let us shelter briefly in the lobby, and the abrupt demand that we leave immediately made an already exhausting situation deeply distressing and humiliating. Bottom Line As paying guests with confirmed reservations made far in advance, we were denied accommodation without a single word of explanation and forced off the property in the early morning rain. I believe this was racial discrimination. If you're a person of color, think twice before booking here. read more

This is an excellent hotel if you are looking a nice, clean place to sleep. I am not sure how old it is, but it looks very new and modern. This goes for both the lobby and the room. Everything in the room from the furniture to the fixtures were in pristine condition. There is a bar on the first floor and an inviting outdoor patio for hanging out too. The only negative is the rooms here are very small. Keeping this is mind, if you can find a room here for around $150 or so, it is worth that price. read more

In the last three months I've been to the Caribbean, Mexico, Paris etc however, I've not have the kind of service provided by VOCO TIME SQUARE. I'm literally in bed in the hotel typing this review as I cannot wait or forget about this stay or everything it's done for our stay Number one free popcorn in the lobby, complimentary water/ coffee in the room. Two free cocktails on the day of the stay, celebrating our 4 year anniversary surprise, after I got my period unexpectedly they even sent someone to the room with some pads and tampons. You think it ends here? Nope, they even gave us a complimentary late check out! Not even that but I've been texting them for anything I need during my stay!!! Wow! Just wow!!! Thank you all! Comfortable room, but rough around the edges. Not my favorite neighborhood, but was super convenient for where I needed to be during the day. Luckily you're closer to 9th, so it keeps you out of most of the chaos of Times Square. At night you need your key to get into the front door and there's also security at the door to ask every single person if they're supposed to be in the hotel (a bit over the top). The elevators are incredibly slow and cause for a lot of commotion at the center of the lobby. Really lovely breakfast area behind the elevators that is perfect for working or hanging out during the day. Never saw a ton of people using this space. The bed is comfortable, there's a nice desk setup, and the bathrooms are newly redone. All of the basics are covered. There's not however a ton of storage space if you're staying for very long. In our room the smell of cleaner was overwhelming when I came in, there was a random older refrigerator in the middle of the walkway, and the AC vent was absolutely disgusting. The doors are certainly not soundproof. I also had the great fortune of being placed across from the elevator, and alongside a large group of Italian tourists who ran up and down the hallway all day yelling each other's names. The real downfall of this property is the front desk and staff. There was one very kind woman at checkout, but everybody else was inexperienced and there was often a long wait to speak with anybody. At checkin they were less than excited for our arrival and I asked for a call when the room was ready - never heard from them. Came back later and received the same icy reception and was simply show the closet where my bags would be waiting - no help, no checking the tags, etc. The real bonus would be when I saw the credit card processed as DoubleTree by Hilton (this property recently changed hands). The gentlemen at the desk told me Hilton and IHG were the same which gave me a good laugh. In the end I was told that changing over the systems was in process, but there's nothing they could do to help. This was my first time staying at a Voco property, and as a Platinum member of IHG I'm not convinced that I'll try again. read more

I just stayed at this hotel for one night this past weekend with my husband. This was our first night away from our (almost) three-year-old son ever. I have to say it was such a great experience. The girl who checked us in was lovely and friendly and super informative. At first, I was disappointed that we were on the third floor, but the room was so comfortable and had so much light and actually had a pretty good view. We paid for breakfast the next morning, which was awesome. I got a turkey sandwich. My husband got an omelette. The weight staff in the restaurant was very helpful and super sweet. Nearly 20 minute wait to get an elevator down from the 9th floor. Two elevators for 26 floors, one stuck on 26, the other completely jammed with crushed humanity by the time it got to me. Restaurant couldn't get over easy eggs and we'll dine bacon correct until I finally had to bail for the airport. Also I'm cranky after being up til 4am with Dave Attel who absolutely crushed at the Comedy Cellar and day-drinking on the We Might Be Drunk podcast so that takes it down a star. We were asked if we wanted water brought to our room at check-in we said yes please. We never received the water we had to ask for it over an hour later when we left to explore. My dog and I had to suddenly vacate our NYC apartment due to a ceiling collapse. A very intense event. We stayed at VOCO Times Square South for three weeks and had a wonderful experience. The rooms were simple but comfy with excellent bedding, the staff was friendly and warm--it became our home away from home. I also enjoiyred the international clientele and the opportunity to interact with a wide community of people. I am so grateful to VOCO for making us so comfortable. Stayed here for 4 nights. The only good thing about this hotel is the location and the night shift front desk staff. There where blood stains on our bed that they didn't remove even after 24 hours of us notifying them. The light switch was broken. The phone did not work. Not enough towels in the room. Elevator was broken, so slow that there were lines to get on/off of it. We left for the day and came back to someone having went in our bathroom and not flush. I have pictures but I'll spare ya. Stayed here with a friend and our 16 yo daughter'sfor 2 nights (Fri & Sat). It's close walk to the 34th Penn Station. About 15 min walk to Times Square. Plenty of food options nearby like the typical McDs, Dunkin Donuts, Taco Bell and Starbucks. We picked up a great deal on tastey pizza slices (Just can't recall the name). The streets are still very busy in this area. Didn't have any issues walking from place to place. As we entered the hotel, it welcomed us with a clean, modern decor. Everyone was extremely nice. We were able to check in early and we all needed some time to rest as we started early to get to the airport to fly out. We were given $10 food credit for both our nights we stayed there. We also received two house drinks as a welcome gift. We got off the elevator to our floor and it smelled freshly cleaned. We were so pleasantly surprised how nice the room was. Be mindful NY has small rooms. We got the room with two doubles. Our room faced out the rear of the hotel. Looking down we saw the nice outdoor patio. The bathroom was really nice. The sink area was a little small but we managed. The light switch was outside the sliding pocket door. Would have been nice for it to be located inside the bathroom because the one bed was so close to the bathroom so the light would shine on the person sleeping in that bed. The hair dryer actually worked great! I typically bring my own because they are usually worn out and junk. This bathroom was clean and it was supplied with shampoo, conditioner, handsome and lotion. The beds had clean linens, but the mattress was too squishy. Very little support. Not sure how long I would have lasted. The entertainment center had overhead lighting. It wasn't too bright but we couldn't figure out how to turn it off. The switches by the door didn't seem to be connected. So I just unplugged it from the wall. I found some time to watch the Detroit v Yankee game at the bar. The bartender, Ignacio, was awesome! He was so pleasant and truly loves his job. There was also a bar menu. I ordered the chicken sandwich and fries. Sandwich was just ok. Tasted like a frozen patty. But the fries were delicious! Thankful I had the $10 food credit to use so it didn't feel like a total loss. Ordered my daughter the chicken quesadilla and she said it was good, just a bit salty. We didn't have to head back to the airport until 7pm. So they held onto our luggage while we spent the day out n about. The hotel had minor deficiencies, but honestly nothing that was a deal breaker. Only for that reason I couldn't give it 5 starts. But it's definitely a 4+. I would definitely stay here again. I didn't take pics of the room or lobby (like I usually do). Well, this is probably among some of my few low star ratings for lodging. Despite only having stayed at this property for less than 12 hours; my impression of this hotel is forgettable. What I mean forgettable: 1) Forget about being recognized at check-in if you have elite status. To make some conversation; I asked if this property was once a Double Tree, and the agent confirmed by saying yes but also had a slight grin and said nothing more. 2) Forget about a seamless experience if you have multiple bookings. While the agent assured that I would keep the same room for the duration of my stay; I am required to personally visit the reception to checkout/in and reprogram the keys. 3) I did book a stay where only single/king beds were available, and I made sure that I didn't forgot to ask if that could be changed. The agent gladly assisted with the room type change (which is where the saving grace 1 star sits). 4) Forget about asking (whomever is at the reception), because the impression I got was lack of experience and lack of motivation to assist. I had asked if a luggage rack could be brought up, and the agent (young African American - he was at the reception desk around midnight); and he asked me what a luggage rack is. When I described that a luggage rack comes standard in most hotels, he said that he has not done any research in what a hotel normally offers. What research does a staff member working for a hotel should do to know what amenities are offered? Definitely not something I would expect ever as an answer. So what was my solution? There is a mini refrigerator sitting at the corner nearest the window, and so I sat my suitcase on top of it (unplugged of course). I didn't even bother to ask for slippers because I only imagined being told that they simply had no idea what they were and the idea of having to explain or spell it out completely (we saved slippers from the last hotel we were at). I don't think I'll book here in the future. Do yourself a favor and book the adjacent Crown Plaza if it's available. read more

While the location was super convenient the pictures from the website must've been CGI, the place was still very much under construction. On the IHG website I ordered breakfast with my booking but when checking in they don't even offer it because everything is under construction. While the room was simple and nice, some of the remodeling aspects felt rushed like I think they could've redone the grout better and there was no rubber seal on the shower. Also they didn't provide any hand soap so I could reach over and use the fixed body wash from the shower fixtures except that one was out. Last but not least I had to put a towel under the crack of my door one night cause someone was smoking on my floor and the smoke was filtering down the hall. Would not book again read more

Decided to do our first family trip of the year to NYC. Stayed at this hotel for 5 days and it was great! The rooms are a bit small, but the staff was excellent and made the stay worth while. Yvette, the front desk personnel was so helpful and sweet. She made everything so easy. Nicholas, the bartender created the experience for our whole family. Whether it was giving us suggestions on where to go in the city or making the best drinks at the bar. He was so sweet to our kids and even put on the football game for my husband to watch. I'm not one to write reviews unless I experience horribly or absolutely outstanding. This was my first trip to NY with my little family of 4 (2 under 2) and although the rooms are small, it was the perfect size for us! (We had a total of 13 in our group. This is my experience for 4 in our 1 queen bed room!) We really only used the room to sleep, other than that we were out and about walking around exploring, but there wasn't a day where we didn't receive new towels or the bed wasn't made. They even folded my kids blankets! The hotel was VERY CLEAN, the staff was ALL so helpful. From extending the rooms, to helping with our baggage and being so sweet to the kids/allowing them to take over their back room. Which by the way, you can order breakfast and enjoy it there while watching T.V. There's also a little bar on the side when you first walk in and their bartender Nicholas was always a vibe! He's the reason why we saved money going out to drink/go out to bars. He played great music, made great drinks and was constantly making sure everyone at the bar was being served/helped. They don't have milk at the hotel, but he accommodated the milk for my 2 year old daughter when we needed it! Such a lifesaver since our daughter needs one a little before bedtime. Saves us a walk to the liquor store! The only time I ever really saw the bar packed/vibing was when he was there and we were there for 5 days. As for the location, great location. It's walking distance from the hop on, hop off buses, time square, Maddison Garden, Starbucks! Such a great location to stay at and like I stated earlier, the staff made it even more worth the stay. I'm glad we chose to stay at Voco. Everything about it was outstanding! Can't wait for our next trip to NY because this is definitely where we are going to stay, no questions! read more

I also think that the fan is loud in the bathroom and ladies that is the only place to really get ready so if you want to hear the tv you need to turn it way up. Found in a bed bug in our room upon arrival to the hotel. When we mentioned it to the hotel staff, they refused to look at the proof of the bug that I put in the cup. They moved us to a room with a smaller bed. They said that they had an exterminator come out and that the result was negative, but didn't even feel bad. They refused to give us any money back for the bug that we found and refused giving us money back for giving us a smaller room even though we paid for a bigger one. Very small room. The shower door opens inward so you squeeze yourself into the shower. You need to request your room to be cleaned each day at the front desk or else they will not do it . One day I did request to have my bed bade and r new bath towels at the front desk after a full day playing tourist in NYC my bed was not made and no new bath towels. I had to call up the front desk to get my requests done. The service at the restaurant is slow and if you're in a hurry to eat you might as well go somewhere else to eat. When I first got here, Michael was cheerful and welcoming.(Best thing about the hotel) it goes downhill from here. First after my shower the floor was entirely wet. I could not figure out how. I warned my son to be careful. After his shower, it happened all over again. It was late so we let it go. Next day about 4 pm we saw Michael and I asked him to send someone up to fix it and we would also need towels. We waited and the engineer showed up and could not finish the job so at 9pm called Michael to cancel. We were tired. Next day we saw housekeeper and asked for towels because we used all of ours for the wet floor. She was pleasant and accommodating. We had a great conversation as she was cleaning. This morning I asked front desk to have housekeeping clean our room while we went out for breakfast. Came back at 12 and still not done. So we called to have our bed fixed. So I get an ok no problem. Few minutes later housekeeping called and said in order for the housekeeper to make the bed we have to leave. I said I'm sorry we just got back and my son has cerebral palsy and his leg hurts so I wasn't going to leave. If she had explained that it is policy or even asked if we wouldn't mine leaving so she can clean I would have made the effort. Instead she sounded like a dictator telling me I had to leave. Nope! I went downstairs to meet the pizza delivery guy and while down there I tried to explain to the woman at the front desk that I would never speak to a guest that way. She of course got heated because she wouldn't listen to and I kept interrupting her. She said it is policy that I leave the room cause of COVID and some housekeepers do not like that she got the manager who was explaining policy and I said isn't policy to be nice. Anyway I called the corporate office and explained my side and I asked for the franchisee owner to contact me. I didn't want a on site manager calling with fake apologies. read more

Honestly want to give this place 0 stars. Not sure how anybody in their right mind is paying these ridiculous prices for such a tiny room. Pictures are so fake it's outrageous. There's maybe room for 4-5 steps in the entire room. The bathroom itself is bigger than the room. My toilet seat was broken and the guy up front said it's always like that and that he'd send someone to fix it immediately. It's been half an hour and nobody has yet to come fix it and I need to use the bathroom bad. The hotel lobby doesn't even have a bathroom. -10/10 definitely would not recommend. Update: got an upgrade to a slightly bigger room with a worse bathroom, but at least the toilet seat is in place! read more

Rooms are very small, service was mediocre. The room temperature was toooooo warm and very stuffy. Front desk said they fixed it but it never changed temperature! Two of the woman at the front desk were rude and bitchy. The front desk did not validate the parking pass, never told us we needed it validated before we picked up our car. Room service was mediocre as well. The mirror was never cleaned in the bathroom and we only received ONE towel. The coffe and cream wasn't replenished properly. Very disappointing. read more
