They do good work but overcharge on labor. I received an invoice for $98 of JUST labor to install air filters, which takes approximately 30 seconds. Good turnaround and good work, but a bit unrealistic in their labor pricing. Likely will not return. read more

While traveling, we picked up a nail in our rental car's tire. We stopped at AFA to have them to look at it and advise us on what to do. Ariana was very welcoming and accommodating. The technician advised that we shouldn't drive with that tire, put the spare on for us and directed us to the closest rental agency. They did all of this with a smile and did not charge us. I have a Lexus IS 250 AWD which had a wiring problem. I took my car to Lexus, as well as two other garages.  No shop could diagnose the problem.  Also, there was a noise emanating from what I thought was my drive belt, I thought it was time for new belts. I was referred to Amesbury Foreign Auto from my former Volvo mechanic. Not only did they find and fix the wiring problem (which Lexus wanted $600 just to diagnose!) my belt issue was a larger problem. I needed a new water pump, pulley, tensioners etc.  Why was this belt noise overlooked by 3 professional auto repair shops including Lexus?  Amesbury Foreign Auto is owned by a husband and wife team and they were a godsend for me.  I have cancer and I mention this only because I need my life to be made a little simpler.  I highly recommend this shop.  Everyone is professional and personable. Lastly, they perform a complimentary inspection of your car, including pictures, and in my case, a video showing the water pump moving. Even the Lexus dealership doesn't offer you pictures, but they will definitely find problems with your car even when I took it in for an airbag recall. It is nice to have money and be spoiled with a Lexus dealership experience. However, I am now on a fixed income and my idea of being spoiled is having a problem-free car and an honest auto repair shop on speed dial. I hope this review is helpful to someone. read more

I've got a 20 year old Acura that I have been taking here for years. They are good and trustworthy. Ben and Andrew have managed to repair the things that come up with having a car with over 200k miles on it. They do my regular service/maintenance work as well. It is, in part, because of their good work that I'm able to have a great car that is as reliable as it was a decade ago!!! Ari works in the office and couldn't be any nicer to deal with. She's knowledgeable and keeps you in the loop about the what's and when's of the service process. They have an after hours drop off and it is secure process. I have never had any problems with leaving my car there and picking it up after hours. Service in the COVID era: you can't go directly into the office. This is as much for your safety as it is for theirs. They wear masks, use gloves and sanitize on top of that! Keys are in a lockbox with your own unique code to. They really couldn't be any more thorough in the process of COVID safety measures. I fully intend to get another 75k miles out of my car and I have them to thank for that. Local, trustworthy, knowledgeable and all around good folks --- it doesn't get any better than that. read more

Car trouble on vacation is misery, but now I know a wonderful place nearby in case we have trouble again with our 2010 Prius. Ari and Ben run a sweet, smart, clean, honest, kind business. I took our car to them with a lot of worry because of strange sounds it had been making, more than one kind of strange sound. Ari asked loads of good questions by phone, and when I took the car in, Ben made a preliminary diagnosis during the first mile of a test drive--and he was right. I waited in a nice waiting room for him to check things out further. Eventually he asked me to take a look at the underneath side of the Prius while it was up on a lift, and showed me two kinds of shields that were dragging, scraping, rattling, and generally causing noise. He invented a couple of fixes and I was off and away with a quiet Prius, for less than $30. Beautiful! read more

I called them because I was trying to remove a screw on the back of my license plate and needed to see if they would be able to help me. They allowed me to come in and they would see my car. Once I arrived they were more than accommodating and so nice to have a look. They immediately went and they were able to remove the screw that was warped and helped me replace my old plates with my new ones as well as new screws that would not be difficult to remove in the future. I was so thankful because I had spent days trying to figure out how to remove that screw. I have to say that their compassion and willingness to help me speaks volumes and that says a lot about the company as a whole. I will surely be recommending them to anyone I know and I also will take my car when I need any service. Our family has taken our vehicles to Dennis, and now Ben, for 18 years. We originally found them through the Car Talk web site. They're no-nonsense mechanics who fix only what needs fixing, do it right the first time, and charge a fair rate. We trust them completely. As soon as a new car comes off the "free" oil change program from the dealership, it goes to Ben. After taking over the business, Ben has made a lot of improvements. He sends a written report by email detailing what was done, what will need to be done soon, and things that can wait. There are no surprises. read more

Brought my daughter's Passat in for service - check engine light. Was given an estimate of $1600 for a litany of problems. Talked with a family member who knows more than I do. He immediately recognized that the estimate included one item that should easily fix the rest - an item that a reputable, experienced, professional mechanic should also easily have recognized. Long story short - we had it fixed for $295. So, either Amesbury Foreign Auto did not know enough about cars to know that the simple fix would affect the rest of the issues, or they did know and were intentionally running up the price - either way, NOT a garage I would recommend or return to. My recommendation if you swear by them is to always get a second estimate from a more reputable mechanic...then make a decision. read more
