The paved trail is clearly marked with signs to help one find bathrooms, marina, disc golf, etc. They have spaces for kids and families at the Beaver Shelt, as well as a music park section near the Eagle Landing Building. There are at least two car charging stations at the marina. There may be more around the park itself, but I did not happen to come across any.

They played in the large play area that has a toddler section all the way to older climbing playgrounds, including swings and a zip line. This is a very nice park with an excellent walking trail and photo opportunities with a big circular sunflower. There is another smaller parking area of the street where you can park and use exercise equipment that they have installed. They also have electric charging stations for electric vehicle vehicles in the parking section. There are bathrooms as well. There is a sign detailing the park and areas to go. I believe there is another place section near a coffee shop/hotel that is nearby. We could have driven to that area, but we remained in the area we were currently at. Most of this park is in sun except the exercise area. I believe that was in shade.

We stopped at a group of people watching a beaver resting on the spillway. A couple of nice picnic pavilions and (remarkably) clean restrooms have shaded playgrounds for kids. The real treat is a professional-grade Disc Golf course. For the less adventurous or for practice is a second, small course. All in all, a gem of a Lenexa park!

I appreciate it that the play areas we went to had partial shade from the alcove of trees. There was a variety of play sets spread out with natural features of tree stumps and such for the kids to climb on. They had a lot of nice walking plaques to explain the walking trail. If you know where to look, there are numerous off-road walking trails through the trees and brush. During the Christmas season, they reopen it for a drive-through Christmas lights exhibit. Personally, I find it nostalgic and beautiful, maybe even romantic, to walk through the fall or winter evening with a friend. It offers some of the most fantastic views in Kansas City. My favorite spot is to sneak to the top of the water fountain and light up a blunt!

As an…read moreeast coaster and big fan of the beach, I was a tad disappointed by the lack of large bodies of water near Kansas City. Insert Blue Springs Lake. Imported sand made me feel like I was spending a day at the beach. The water was warm. The abounding amounts of trees created a scenic view and provided shade from the scorching sun rays. Picnic tables provided a comfortable place for lunch. Life guards watched over families and kids, splashing around with wild abandon. There is a $8 admission fee for adults and $6 fee for children. Bathrooms with showers available with admission. No alcohol is allowed on the premise. Call to verify their hours-- the website says they open at 11 a.m. but the swim park didn't actually open until 1 p.m. Grab your inflatables and your best friend, then enjoy a day at Blue Springs Lake!
