We had never met Jane and Rocky, the owners of The Amethyst Inn, before we stayed here. But within five minutes we felt like we had known them all our lives. The first thing they did after we finally arrived after a delayed flight and a long drive was to sit us down in the contemporary renovated kitchen, pour us a glass of wine, and let us relax. That's their gift - to know how to make their visitors fit in and feel welcome. The Amethyst Inn at Sarah's Garden, named after the couple's daughter Sarah, is a charming renovated Victorian house (painted a lovely amethyst shade, of course) located in the heart of Savannah's Historic District at the corner of Gaston and Habersham Streets. The house is located a short walk away from the city's famous Forsyth Park, and there is even a wine store located in a small shopping complex across the street, which was very convenient for us since we usually enjoy a bottle of wine in the evenings. All of the bedrooms are furnished with period antiques or reproductions, and all feature ceiling fans and private bathrooms. Some rooms boast whirlpool tubs or kitchenettes, but all have the basic amenities of beds, televisions, ceiling fans, and private bathrooms with showers. We stayed in the Magnolia Room. Everything was clean and comfortable, and when we got back to our room in the afternoons or evenings, the bed had always been made up and the bathroom was always restocked with fresh towels. The breakfasts are served buffet-style in the dining room, which we liked since we could serve ourselves as much or as little as we wanted, depending on our appetites. Jane loves to cook and bake, so the breakfasts were always delicious. They always featured some type of egg dish; fresh fruit; tea, coffee and juice; and baked goods of some kind such as banana bread, muffins, or scones. And of course there was always some Southern specialty such as grits or biscuits and sausage gravy. We were only in Savannah for a day and a half, so there wasn't nearly enough time to do everything we wanted to do, but Jane and Rocky did their best to help us make the most of the time we did have. They made reservations for us at the restaurants of our choice, and asked the owners to treat us right by seating us in certain locations. Rocky even introduced us to another Southern cuisine specialty, fried green tomatoes, by picking up the tab for our appetizer at The Chart House on our first night. They also made suggestions on places to visit, landmarks to see, and tours to fill us in on the history of Savannah. They clued us in on Savannah Dan, a former Savannah cop and U.S. Army veteran who gives very informative, entertaining walking tours of the city dressed up in a seersucker suit and fedora; and the Savannah Pedicab Company, an environmentally-friendly "taxi" service using tricycles which will take you almost anywhere within the historic district for whatever price you feel is fair. And Jane and Rocky were always ready to provide us with anything we needed, whether it was wine glasses, directions to a destination, or just a friendly chat in the kitchen. A great place! We're definitely going back to Savannah some day, and we'll definitely stay at The Amethyst Inn again. read more

Chemise our host (the innkeeper) is the jewel at this place. She makes your stay wonderful with her dedication. (Owners take note) the home is beyond beautiful, even standing on the sidewalk and looking at the home you can tell it's well kept. The rooms are amazing- calm, quiet and peaceful. Home cooked breakfast every morning. You may experience some odd things here paranormal wise but not scary, just my thoughts there on that. A lot of history with the house so maybe it's to be expected. Bottom line is if you're going to Savannah and can get in here- it's worth the experience for sure. read more

Myself, my mother, and daughter stayed here for 3 nights in the Dalia room. It was a wonderful experience! The home is very charming and Cherise was amazing. She was very accommodating. She cooked great breakfast (sooooo yummy)AND made it a bit early for us for my early riser, gave my picky eater daughter extra fruit, gave us coupons for tours,let me drink up all the yummy coffee and even let us hang out long after check out bc our flight was delayed. She was very friendly and professional and informative! There are no TVs in the room which was actually refreshing. Our room had an balcony which was nice and the home also has pool! Unfortunately, this place has gone downhill tremendously since the last review in 2015--I'm guessing it's due to new ownership. Upon arrival at 12 noon, my best friend Teryn, her 11 year old daughter, and myself were greeted by the front desk clerk for check in. She informed us that they had assigned us a smaller room than we would probably want, and so she offered the larger room for an additional $30/night. Upon seeing the larger room, we agreed and paid for the entire weekend's stay upfront ($600+). We then proceeded to spend the next 9 hours siteseeing and touring Savannah. At 9 pm, Teryn received a call from the front desk clerk saying the owner had come by and said that he doesn't allow 3 people in the room we checked into, and our only options were to pay for a second room (at $300/night) or pack up and go elsewhere. She apologized profusely, saying the owner wouldn't budge, but that she would refund us for the inconvenience. We could actually hear him next to her telling her what to say to us, but refused to talk with us directly. After an unsuccessful 1.5 hrs on the phone with Expedia (who we'd booked the room through) saying that because Amethyst House collected our money directly their hands were tied, we headed back to collect our things and move to another hotel. Once there, the owner refused to refund our money saying we'd already checked in, but he would be "generous" and allow us to all stay in the room for an additional $90/night. We of course declined, instead insisting on the refund we'd been promised. Even though the front desk clerk was upfront with the owner and admitted she'd checked us all into the room earlier and then offered a refund when the owner told her that was a mistake, he still adamantly refused any solution that didn't involve him collection more money. We had to pack up at midnight with an 11 year old and go to another hotel, all the while he's still refusing to refund us our money even though we didn't stay even one night. There are SO many beautiful places to stay in Savannah and so many wonderful people who will treat you with kindness and welcome you to this great city--don't waste your time or money on this fraudster who will scam you out of $600 and then kick you out into the streets. read more

The Innkeeper here is a rock star! The Inn is great too. But, really it was all about her friendliness and the delicious breakfast and cookies she prepared every morning. We felt pampered as one should on a vacation. The location is good. Our bed was extremely comfortable and I was able to sleep well. There were gloves for guests and hand sanitizers everywhere, which is great during this time. She kept her mask on the entire time, which I think is great for guests that might have concerns. Indeed, the epitome of southern hospitality and even more delightful when you hear that Jane and Rocky and originally Yankees!! My husband and I recently stayed two nights during a two-week southern roadtrip and found the Amethyst Inn to be an oasis of complete rest and relaxation. We truly felt we were visiting friends and were deeply grateful for the easy, welcoming manner of our hosts. Jane's cooking is incredible, to say the least! She is a magician with everything, but her baked goodies are the best! We stayed in the Magnolia room and relished in the comfort and quiet of this space. We couldn't tell at all if other people were in the house and enjoyed many a nap in the large, luxurious bed. And after so much walking in Savannah, we needed it! The pricing was very fair and the location ideal. Right next to Forsythe park and the gorgeous houses of the historic district, but far enough away from the hustle & bustle of River and Bay streets to really relax. All the same, we kept finding ourselves amazed at how quickly we would find ourselves at the riverfront with just a short walk north. Now we just need Jane to make a recipe book so we can enjoy her cooking in our own homes! read more

Rocky and Jane were consummate hosts. My wife and I decided upon a last minute trip to Savannah and luckily came across an opening at the Amethyst Inn. Rocky was very helpful with helping us figure out our itinerary including dining at only the best local restaurants. He entertained my questions about ghosts and the house (Yes, Virginia. This bed and breakfast home is beautiful and the shining personalities of the spunky innkeepers are sincere! Jane and Rocky Reed made my whole family feel like we had known them forever. We stayed in the Hydrangea suite which was clean, comfy, quiet, very private and perfect for a large family. We had gone to Savannah for the area attractions, but what will make us return are Jane's bountiful breakfasts, Rocky's fantastic stories, continued discussions on schoolwork and ball gowns with Sarah, more crabbing and shrimping with our hosts, relaxing in the lovely backyard at the Amethyst Inn, and most certainly another birthday éclair. My three children 6, 8, 13 had a great time playing games in the living room, eating homemade goodies placed on the table for them, wandering the historic house and checking out the backyard. But crabbing and shrimping will be a memory never to be forgotten. There they were on the dock eating Rocky's boiled peanuts, getting instruction on how to pull up the lines carefully, and within minutes they were catching and admiring a successful catch. Everything about the Amethyst Inn was perfect right down to the homemade marshmallows that Jane made fresh for the kiddos the night before we left. Jane created many tasty goodies in her kitchen but the marshmallows are what the kids wanted the recipe for. Of course Jane obliged. At the end of the trip, Jane, Rocky and Sarah each wrote a note into the cover of a child's picture book that I purchased in Savannah. Their sentiments warm our hearts, and help to bridge the gap between this past summer and the next time our family visits the Amethyst Inn. If i could give them ten stars I'd give them twenty! Rocky and Jane, the innkeepers, hospitality and kindness is what makes the city of Savannah so charming! I highly recommend the Amethyst Inn to anyone looking for a place to stay that feels like HOME! Upon arrival, Rocky and Jane kindly greeted us and had maps with designated places to visit and go to, something that ordinary hotels just can't offer. Our suite, the IVY, was CLEAN, AFFORADABLE, and LOVELY! The inn was perfectly situated to city, and in a beautiful neighborhood near Jones Steet. Breakfast was amazing and Jane catered to my vegetarian diet, and everything was so delicious, especially those Grits!!! Her hospitality was boundless, as she told us if we got hungry later we could come up and she would make us a lunch or a snack. SO NICE! As a business owner myself, I know the core of any successful business is respect and admiration. Rocky and Jane were so kind, and so nice, that you just want to support them! I know they don't have the most reviews, and as I business owner, again, I know most people do not write them, (unless motivated by savings or angry :) ) but I know there are hundreds of people who feel just like I do and would give the thumbs up. My boyfriend and I stayed here from December 24-30, 2012. The owners, Jane and Rocky, were amazing! Loved the free maps with tips and recommeded places written on them. Loved how lovely the place was decorated for the holidays. Food was excellent! Had a different meal every day and Jane is not stingy with the recipes. She will give you a recipe if you want to try to cook the breakfast she served for you that morning. Also, there are fresh cookies and candies in the dining area all the time. We stayed in the Rose Room. The room was nice and neat every time we came back from our adventures. Loved the stained glass window above the door. The B&B is about a 15-20 minute walk north to the riverwalk; A short walk, about 8 minutes to the beautiful Forsyth Park and across the street there is a popular Liquor Store. Went here with my wife and 7 year old son for her Birthday and we were very pleased with our stay. Very beautiful home and great breakfast.

The food was great, the hospitality abundant, and the room very nice. I stayed at the Amethyst Inn with my two sisters, so we reserved the Hydrangea Suite (plenty of space for 3 people). It was lovely, and not far from Savannah's many attractions. Jane was able to accommodate our dietary restrictions (one vegetarian and one shellfish allergy) and the wonderful accommodations made for a great trip. read more
