The Outside of The Amethyst Inn
    Karen M.

We had never met Jane and Rocky, the owners of The Amethyst Inn, before we stayed here. But within five minutes we felt like we had known them all our lives. The first thing they did after we finally arrived after a delayed flight and a long drive was to sit us down in the contemporary renovated kitchen, pour us a glass of wine, and let us relax. That's their gift - to know how to make their visitors fit in and feel welcome. The Amethyst Inn at Sarah's Garden, named after the couple's daughter Sarah, is a charming renovated Victorian house (painted a lovely amethyst shade, of course) located in the heart of Savannah's Historic District at the corner of Gaston and Habersham Streets. The house is located a short walk away from the city's famous Forsyth Park, and there is even a wine store located in a small shopping complex across the street, which was very convenient for us since we usually enjoy a bottle of wine in the evenings. All of the bedrooms are furnished with period antiques or reproductions, and all feature ceiling fans and private bathrooms. Some rooms boast whirlpool tubs or kitchenettes, but all have the basic amenities of beds, televisions, ceiling fans, and private bathrooms with showers. We stayed in the Magnolia Room. Everything was clean and comfortable, and when we got back to our room in the afternoons or evenings, the bed had always been made up and the bathroom was always restocked with fresh towels. The breakfasts are served buffet-style in the dining room, which we liked since we could serve ourselves as much or as little as we wanted, depending on our appetites. Jane loves to cook and bake, so the breakfasts were always delicious. They always featured some type of egg dish; fresh fruit; tea, coffee and juice; and baked goods of some kind such as banana bread, muffins, or scones. And of course there was always some Southern specialty such as grits or biscuits and sausage gravy. We were only in Savannah for a day and a half, so there wasn't nearly enough time to do everything we wanted to do, but Jane and Rocky did their best to help us make the most of the time we did have. They made reservations for us at the restaurants of our choice, and asked the owners to treat us right by seating us in certain locations. Rocky even introduced us to another Southern cuisine specialty, fried green tomatoes, by picking up the tab for our appetizer at The Chart House on our first night. They also made suggestions on places to visit, landmarks to see, and tours to fill us in on the history of Savannah. They clued us in on Savannah Dan, a former Savannah cop and U.S. Army veteran who gives very informative, entertaining walking tours of the city dressed up in a seersucker suit and fedora; and the Savannah Pedicab Company, an environmentally-friendly "taxi" service using tricycles which will take you almost anywhere within the historic district for whatever price you feel is fair. And Jane and Rocky were always ready to provide us with anything we needed, whether it was wine glasses, directions to a destination, or just a friendly chat in the kitchen. A great place! We're definitely going back to Savannah some day, and we'll definitely stay at The Amethyst Inn again.

Myself, my mother, and daughter stayed here for 3 nights in the Dalia room. It was a wonderful experience! The home is very charming and Cherise was amazing. She was very accommodating. She cooked great breakfast (sooooo yummy)AND made it a bit early for us for my early riser, gave my picky eater daughter extra fruit, gave us coupons for tours, let me drink up all the yummy coffee and even let us hang out long after check out bc our flight was delayed. She was very friendly and professional and informative! There are no TVs in the room which was actually refreshing. Our room had an balcony which was nice and the home also has pool! Will def be back next time in Savannah!

Mixed bag - first the gripes, then the good stuff…read more It's pricey and our king room was of a decent size but not well thought-out: no horizontal surface to write/type and nowhere to sit except for a chaise lounge that just didn't really do it for sitting-upright comfort. Very little storage space. No end tables by the bed, just open shelves. A stupid high-tech bedside Lenovo tablet that appeared to do nothing other than tell the time (had two alarms) and weather - and shine light on you all night long, like it or not. The bed was topped with a pillowtop that felt like someone had stuffed eight inches of cotton balls into a sack - overly soft. Bathroom was a hair too dark (everyone we saw staying here is on the downhill side of what's optimistically called "middle age" - you need more light in the bathroom) for basic getting ready in the morning. Downstairs lobbies were pretty (and crowded) and also had nowhere decent to type. Utterly quiet, though. The quality of the materials used in the construction of the place was terrific; I can see why it's a pricey joint. Pretty decor all over and lovely seating in the public areas. TV worked fine and interfaced well with your electronics from home. Good WiFi throughout the property. Good charging ports found where you'll want them. Good blackout shades. Shower was fantastic. Lots of towels. Good bars on site. Completely, utterly, perfectly clean - and that's _despite_ being a pet-friendly place with heavy doggie presence. And every staff member was friendly and polite and lovely. And to top it off, the perfect location. Too many issues for it to be a five-star at this price point, but it's certainly very nice. So many nice things (especially the staff, cleanliness and location) that I'm sad not to give it five stars. Happy we stayed here at Perry Lane.

The hotel itself, especially the downstairs area, is beautiful and the service from the front desk to the valet was EXCELLENT. Still, some details missed the mark. The TV signal kept going out, the room service orange juice was not good, and the water was tap with visible particles. The also shower didn't get super hot. The location is unbeatable and I would stay again, but we moved to the Marshall House afterward for less money and preferred it there. The location was basically identical.

The staff was very accommodating throughout our stay. Being that I lived in Savannah 20 years ago, I have bragged about how incredible Savannah's hospitality is and the staff here definitely showed up. Huge thank you to Joey, Jackie, Cindi, and Darnell or as I refer to them as the dream team for making our stay so incredible. I hope they promote you all into management. Our room was absolutely beautiful and comfortable. Honestly, one of the best beds I have ever slept on. Perfect if you have jet lag. I love that the toiletries have peppermint so you repeal bugs, which is a must in the south. Great alternative if you forget the bug spray. There's a coffee bar, restaurant, and a speakeasy bar that was Alice and wonderland themed. In the afternoon you are offered champagne, which is such a nice touch. They have bikes available to sightsee rather than walking. This hotel is close to everything in case you want to walk and explore shops, dining, etc. Overall, this hotel is beautifully decorated and charming. Something Savannah is known for. I highly recommend this hotel. Especially because it's pet friendly!

You can hear your neighbors :) It's crazy how the elevator was being serviced DURING BREAKFAST one morning and everyone had to use the stairs. It was especially bad because someone in my party needed to use a walker due to their bad knees. We had to carry the walker up and down the stairs and they were literally crawling to go up and down. I asked one of the male staff about it in the front desk and they said that there was nothing they can do and that the elevators will be both back up at 8:30 AM. We went out and took a stroll, came back around 9:00 AM and the elevators were not yet fixed. It was just ridiculous! Later on in the day, they managed to get ONE of the elevators working :) The next morning, we went to breakfast at 7 AM and everything is broken! Only one elevator is working, there is no coffee at all, no pancakes, and even the juice machine got hit! It was honestly insane. If you go on vacation, just go somewhere else.

Room, cleanliness, service, on site dining…read more At check-in June 3, 2026: Carolina was very thoughtful in explaining the property-- 3 buildings-- and the corresponding property map. We were pleased with room placement with balcony in furthest east Bldg (3Muses). We were advised water-facing rooms can be noisy. On that note, by the third and final night, Friday, this past weekend, we learned that the cobblestone street outside was quite noisy as well. Fortunately, on weekend, just after midnight, revelry noise level moves down from the billiard Halls across from our room. (Ear plugs were furnished in the room :-) Even so, we enjoyed the balcony for the mornings and pre-dinner hour: it was ambience into our room as we were getting ready for our various comings/goings. The medium-ish sized pool featured brrrrr water; not yet nuked by summer's power! But it was enjoyable for a refresh. It got unbelievably crowded on Friday afternoon, so glad we generally came earlier in the day. Fortunately my work Conference: buffet style food supplied by JW was above-average, 4* food for Conference food (3* if judged on its own merit). But we enjoyed the on-site dining from which we tried small plates from the African restaurant, fish at the seafood bar outside the main building; my wife enjoyed the breakfast dishes from the coffee shop in the main building. This is a special property. Enjoy the artwork and the unique character of each building. So much to see as meandering. Friendly Service top to bottom. Employees seem to value their jobs and our patronage. Would return without hesitation.

I didn't explore third building, but I'm aware that there are more rooms there and an entertainment venue too. I received very friendly service for my check-in. Brandon, who helped me and my friend at the front desk, told us what we needed to know about the property and made our first impressions here very warm. The two gentlemen who worked valet, whose names I'm forgetting (sorry!) were also incredibly kind--one made effort to remember both me and my friend's names. the rooms here--beds and bathroom--are lovely, and made more unique with the featured art. I got upgraded to a river view room, which was a big plus. (you do hear the ships go by if they blow their horn! didn't bother me and my friend's with our sleep, but the noise-sensitive folks should probably wear ear plugs just in case.) If it's within your budget, then I'd highly recommend this place to put in your bucket list of "unique hotel properties to stay at at least once"!

I would think that quiet hours for the pool would be 9 PM, but apparently they aren't. I believe they are 10 PM. There was a group of what appeared to be teenagers screaming nonstop for about three hours straight. I don't know, if I was staff at a hotel, I would probably tell them to keep it down after 8 PM, but that's just me. It sounds like the rooms on the other side of the hotel are really noisy as well, so I guess moving and wouldn't have done much. The valet took a really long time in the morning. I wouldn't have minded that if they would have told us in the beginning, but when you check in, they tell you to give them five minutes to retrieve your vehicle. It took the guy 20 minutes to respond to my request (I was first in the queue) and I had to go walk down and grab the car myself because I needed to leave immediately. It sounds like he was managing two properties, so not his fault. When not knowing where the valet was, the front desk wasn't helpful. She kind of dismissed the issue. She did end up calling him, but she didn't act like she cared about our situation at all in the beginning. It actually prompted us to take action and another gentleman waiting for his car went and looked in the valet garage to see if somebody was even there because he was having the same issues. Anyways, my first and last time staying at this hotel. Too many other options in the area. I really need a reliable valet, unfortunately.
