With all the craziness of CoVid going on in New York I wasn't sure AMF would be open. I called ahead to check( and missing the sound of Marys voice from our years of bowling when our oldest( who is 30 now)was 6) was answered by a man with no customer service skills stated they were open and it was first come first serve. We walked in and noticed a lot of open lanes, 2 customers in front of us and the man I spoke to on the phone trying to handle inputting their info. As we were next and I asked for a lane(one possibly not in the middle of people)I was cut off mid sentence and told "I'm letting you know you Will be in the middle of all those people" as he pointed to the left. I then finished my sentence saying "because my husband just had chemo and I was hoping we could be on the end". In the middle of my speaking he again said "No I'm letting you know you can't." Wow! No, sorry we're having tournaments or have reservations for parties or anything just continual snapping. I really wish Mary didn't retire-I'm sure she would never let an employee be so rude. (And yes I did call him a douche-usually I'm nicer but between me and my 2 sons he was rude so I felt it appropriate. I'm getting sick of people being rude to me all the time it's unacceptable!) It is called Lancaster Lanes, but it is in Depew, which is partly in Lancaster and partly in Cheektowaga, along that Transit Road continuum where municipal boundaries become theoretical and every location is described relative to a Tops, Tim Hortons, former Kmart, or restaurant that used to be something else. This is Western New York. We understand it. A national corporation never will. A bowling alley should be one of civilization's simplest institutions. You enter. There are lanes. You rent shoes. You bowl badly. You order beer and wings. One person who claims not to have bowled in fifteen years inexplicably scores 180. A child wanders into your approach. An elderly league bowler silently judges your technique. The model has worked for decades. It requires no disruption. But corporate America cannot encounter a functioning institution without asking how it might be made shittier through innovation. Someone looked at this bowling alley and did not see a community gathering place. He saw an "under-monetized location-based entertainment asset." He saw customers occupying space without being adequately extracted from. He saw people sharing one pitcher of beer and realized shareholder value was being destroyed. Thus, bowling becomes an "experience." The snack bar becomes "lane-side dining." Turning off the lights and activating ultraviolet fixtures becomes a premium event. A birthday becomes a tiered entertainment package. The website speaks like a Las Vegas nightclub, even though the destination is a cinder-block building in Depew surrounded by six months of accumulated parking-lot salt. Corporate enshittification always follows the same formula: cut staffing until one employee is doing four jobs, raise prices to fund none of those jobs, impose centralized systems that make simple decisions impossible, and use cheerful branding to suggest that deterioration is modernization. The employee working the desk, snack bar, birthday party, and lane malfunction simultaneously is not the problem. That employee is a hostage. You can end up trying to accomplish the ancient task of paying money to bowl while feeling like you are negotiating a telecommunications contract. How many people? How long? Shoes included? Did you reserve online? Is this a peak period? Would you like a package? Would you like to create an account? Would you like to receive promotional emails? No. I want to throw a fourteen-pound ball at ten pins. I do not want to establish a relationship with the bowling alley. I do not want an app, personalized offers, or an email tomorrow saying, "You left three pins standing, but your next visit could be a strike!" I want the anonymity once inherent in low-stakes public recreation. The food follows the same pattern. Bowling food should be gloriously unambitious: hot, salty, structurally stable, and edible with one hand between frames. Pizza, wings, fries, burgers, chicken fingers. Nobody needs a chef's vision. Nobody needs a drizzle. The snack bar should sell a cheeseburger called "Cheeseburger," not a "signature lane-side dining experience" assembled from the same ingredients but priced like it attended graduate school. This is Western New York. We know bar food. You cannot put twelve damp nachos in a miniature metal basket, add three adjectives to the menu description, and expect us to be dazzled. Then there is the lighting. Corporate entertainment executives apparently decided that visible carpeting and recognizable human faces are incompatible with fun. Therefore, everything must glow blue and purple while music videos flash above the pins at a volume that prevents conversation. Regular bowling is insufficiently monetizable, so they turn off the lights, activate fixtures purchased during the Black Eyed Peas era, call it "cosmic," and charge more for the same lane. Nothing says premium entertainment like being unable to see the finger holes in the ball. The saddest part is that a real neighborhood bowling alley remains trapped underneath all the corporate lacquer. League bowlers still arrive with bags resembling sensitive medical equipment. Families still bring children. Friends still insult each other's form. People still celebrate accidental strikes with wildly disproportionate enthusiasm. The community keeps trying to use the place as a community bowling alley while the corporation tries to convert it into a monetized entertainment ecosystem. read more

ugh, I will say it is very rare for me to write a review but I feel like this has to be said for families who might be interested in coming here. Today I brought my two young kids (6 and 3) and husband to bowl one game. it costs us $68! We were stunned! $10 a bowler (even for the 3 year old) and $6 a person for shoe rental!!! on top of that, we ordered nachos and a kid pizza (separate from this cost) and it took 45 minutes. We were done playing by the time came. It was so disappointing. The staff seems over worked and didn't care at all when we went up 3 times to check on 45 min NACHOS!!! needless to say, we won't be coming back. read more

Clean place, plenty of lanes. They have a full bar and offer several food options while you play. They have leagues on different nights, and offer discounts on food & drink to league members. In house pro shop for your bowling needs. Everyone that works there is very friendly and more than willing to help as needed. Prices are a little steep on drinks, but food is reasonable. read more

Gotta say 1 Star booked online for 2 1/2hrs and my receipt gave me 1/ 1/2... tried to call and fix they said they couldn't do a thing. We were just out. Gave us a refund number and place isn't open till Tuesday. All we wanted was the spare hour we paid for..... really sad because this place used to be amazing. Don't book online you'll just lose money. Our son was invited to a Birthday Party Saturday 6:30p.m.-8:30p.m. A total of 17 people bowled with 4 lanes being used for the group. The staff was friendly towards me and my son.I was surprised she didn't have a helper for the party. She had a lot of people show up. Kyle The Bartender was awesome! I only had 1 Long Island Ice Tea, $7.49? (I don't remember, don't judge me) It came in a really tall glass and it was good and strong. My girlfriend also ordered a drink but I don't remember the name (again, don't judge me‍) She said it tasted like a Cherry Jolly Ranger! We went back to the lanes to watch the party. About 1/2 my drink was gone when it my throat started to tighten up and I felt dizzy! I needed food before I took another sip! I confessed this to my friend and she busted out laughing! These kids were not going to remember me as "The Mom who fell off the chair passed out as a drunk!" Thank God, staff came out with the ,,! The chicken fingers were good size pieces and fries were hot and crispy! The place was clean. The bathrooms were clean. I really enjoyed this bowling alley and lucky me it's around the corner from my house! Stopped in on Friday night for some bowling and drinks and was pleasantly surprised to find unlimited bowling for only about $12! That's a pretty good price considering the cost per game. We played about five games and had a great time. The alley itself is very nice and well maintained and they've got a large parking lot to accommodate many people. They've got a nice bar area with different specials and food as well. I also really liked how they separated all the different bowling balls by size and they are all the same color which is helpful rather than checking through 50,000 different bowling balls for a good one. Walk in around 9:30 Lady (imagine your lunch lady from school) working at desk agreed to give me and some friends a free game... said they were closing early "it was a slow day" two more people walk in and she changes her mind. Says we can bowl until 11 then gives us "unlimited" bowling 24.75 per person. Which is ridiculous. But I was under the influence so I had no idea what was happening. The score-keeping equipment is more out of date than the TI-82 calculator I used in high school calculus, but I don't really care. No points taken off. At least it accurately counts the pins. The staff is always very nice and friendly, and they offer a ton of different leagues for bowlers of all ability. Sunday nights are one dollar games, and I believe Monday evenings the games are fifty cents. I've been here three or four times, and last night was the only time I've ever had to wait for a lane. That's also not a huge deal, since my group of six could wait it out with a pitcher of beer at the bar. Bonus points for having an air hockey machine, too. I don't think it gets used too much though, since it we had to clear debris off it last time we wanted to play. What else is there to say? We came, we bowled, we had a good time. read more

I never liked this place since I was 9 years old when this place was new. I am 54 now. They are expensive and over the years their service is poor. I have been bowling occasionally for 45 years. 20 years ago I had them drill a ball that I thought was just for me, but instead, WITHOUT TELLING ME, he gave it what is known as a "house drill" rather than a finger tip grip any other normal person would want. Needless to say my occasional bowling suffered unnecessarily for 20 years until I decided to stop sucking at bowling and figure out what was going on. Butch Benhatzel at Wimbledon Lanes fitted me PROPERLY with a USED ball with A PROPER DRILL PATTERN, and my game is progressing, no thanks to Lancaster Lanes! You suck! It has been forever since I have been bowling, but it's definitely one of my favorite pastimes. We decided to take our 2.5 year old bowling for the first time. To make his first visit a success, one of the workers put up the bumpers. They also gave him a contraption that allowed him to easy push his ball down the lane. My son loved every second of it and we loved watching him! The bowling ally has all of the bowling balls color coded and organized by weight, which made it really easy to find a ball. We paid $25 dollars for three people to rent shoes and bowl one game, but they do have special times when it is cheaper. read more

We got the summer pass (which includes 3 games and shoe rental, unlimited visits up to 8pm) and enjoy coming to this bright and cheerful bowling alley. The staff is always friendly and the facilities are well-maintained. Only complaint is that the bowling balls are always oily so bring a rag! read more

Came on the weekend with family including young grand kids. Waited at the counter literally 10 minutes while the attendant chatted with a departing customer. Like they would be winding up and she would start up again. Frustrating. Could you wait on us while you talk to your friend? Finally got the 2 lanes and asked for bumpers for the kids. This seemed like an annoying request and we were met with resistance. Do you really need them? Only the kids can use them.(really? the people next to us had adults and children using them.) Also needed one of those things the kids roll the ball down but they didn't have any at that time so the nice group next to us let us share theirs. 2 minutes later I see new people 3 lanes over having one delivered to them?! Wow! The place wasn't crowded so I don't know what the problem was. Also VERY expensive. I will go to one of the other many bowling establishments around. Went here the other day with friends (on a Sunday) since they had an online advertisement of $5 per person, starting@ noon, for 2 hours of bowling - not including shoes. We got there @ 4pm, and for 4 people it cost us almost $60. So we asked about the advertisement, and they said it was an old advertisement, and it now starts @ 6pm. What business does that? False advertising? The counter employees seem like they don't want to be bothered unless your handing them cash for bowling. Also, the food is awful. If you want the worst wings you've ever had, go here. Extremely small and rubbery. I wish i took a pic. They're disgusting. They should be embarrassed, but something tells me they're not.
