Doggie good time! Our little girl Poppy enjoyed herself immensely today, running and playing with other little dogs, at this dog park. Since I don't have a fenced yard, I thought this might be a good exercise outlet. We usually just go for leashed walks down our street. This turned out to be a wonderful social time, as well. A little muddy due to the recent rains. Should be better as the hot summer approaches. Benches to sit, bags to pick up waste, and separate yards for big vs smaller size dogs. Seems most patrons are mindful and look after their dogs and pick up waste. It was quite clean. I think we will bring Poppy here more often! read more

Paw Park is a relatively small dog park located in the East Amherst area. My all-time favorite park is the Bark Park but it is currently closed until May. I decided to bring my little man here to let him run around. This park is WAYYYY smaller and also muddy. It wasn't TOO bad because we avoided the muddy areas but nonetheless both areas were still pretty muddy. The park is split into a big dog area and a small dog area. There was nobody there when we went so I just let my pup run around in the big dog area. The small dog area was completely muddy. read more

We absolutely love this park. It's fully fenced in and has separate areas for large and small dogs. The Facebook page is pretty active to see any new announcements. Early spring is usually pretty muddy so they do ask us to stay away while the ground is drying out to not ruin all the hard work they put into the grass. During the warm months there is access to water and there are bags in the park to pick up after your dog. read more

The Paw Park is my most visited and second favorite dog park in the area. It is a 2 area dog park, with big(over 30lbs) and little(under 30lbs) side. The little dog side tends to be dryer, but they are working on adding more drainage all around. Recently the park added new grass seed too. At some point they hope to make another section which would have some agility equipment, I am excited about that. What makes this park special, is the people. I don't know why or how it ended up this way, but the people here are more friendly than all of the other parks I have been too. There really is a sense of community, a lot of the people know each others names... or at least each others dogs names. Plain and simple, this park is friendly, strives to better it self, has a great community and is a great place to let your dog socialise/burn off energy. Has a large and small section, benches throughout and the large section has a covered section, though, could only fit max two people under the gazebo. There is poop all over the big dog park section and half the benches in the big park are tilted. My biggest issue is that it's super muddy here, I came in the spring so I can't imagine what it's like in the winter. The large dog park is the decent size, not huge but decent and your dogs can definitely run around should they choose to. It was the afternoon of Good Friday and no one is here. I am not from the area so not sure if Amherst is a much smaller town than buffalo, so I think the fact that it has a dog park, it is appreciated. I'd recommend the creek side dog park on the island. read more

Amherst Paw Park is a perfect place for you and you doggie! They separate both sizes; one for larger dogs I believe is 25-30 pounds and up. Little pups under 25 can go to big dog park however at your own discretion. Their is no specific hours just that it says till dust, however then your pup can't meet friends then. I went at 8pm there was no dogs for the small dog side, however on the big dog side there was plenty of big dogs. They all running around the spacious area, with water bowl and food bowl. They also provide lots of bench and poppy bags. Please pick up your poops to keep this place nice and clean :)! They had cute art work in the back. read more

I ended up bringing my pup here instead when I learned that Ellicott Island had shut down for the month, to allow the island to recover from all of the traffic of the past year. The Paw Park is pretty alright for a dog park. They've got your standard pair of fenced-in areas, one for the bigger dogs and one for the smaller ones. I did really enjoy how much space the big dog area had; plenty of room for my pup to run around and sniff. I was a little disappointed that it was a ghost town when we went one afternoon during the week. What appeared to be housing that sits directly next to the paw park and parking lot made me feel like I was being watched, and I'll admit it put me off a little bit. There was only one other person at the paw park that day, a man with a small dog that I knew my dog wouldn't take any interest in. I ended up taking her, alone, into the large dog enclosure and walked around with her a little bit. There's tennis balls scattered all around the park, and a nice little sitting area in the shade for owners (that would probably be better utilized in the summertime). The ground was pretty dug up, likely due to pups playing there under muddy conditions. Being the only ones there, my dog was pretty bored, as she's used to being able to sniff around when I bring her to different parks. We ended up leaving after ten or so minutes. I'm sure it's different when there are more dogs playing there, but I'll admit I was unimpressed. It looked like at one point, the park had been a relatively popular spot, but has now lost its luster. Personally I have been to way better dog parks, and will probably not be making the long drive from my house to this park again any time soon. read more

My wife and I bring our dog fairly regularly. We've tried just about every dog park in the area and we're both in agreement that this is best spot around. We have a two year old Golden retriever and she is an absolute bundle of energy. This space is big enough to give her plenty of room to run, while giving us the peace of mind of a fenced in area. Admittedly, like any dog park there is the odd time where two dogs may try to mix it up a little too much, but the owners here are usually pretty on the ball and things get broken up quickly. Overall this is a good spot. My only complaint is that during the winter thaw period or on heavy rain days there is a ton of mud and standing water. Best to maybe avoid the park on days like those, as there are some drainage issues. read more

This park is okay but definitely not my favorite. In the winter when our favorite park ( Elliott creek) is closed we don't have too much of a choice if we want to let our pup run. So we end up here. We also have friends who love it here so we meet up for dog dates. They have fully fenced sections for both large and small dogs. Small dogs are classified here as under 25 pounds. You can let your small dog in the big section as well. I can't speak about the summer months, but the winter and spring are rough. It is muddy. So muddy. And in general, the park isn't big enough to let dogs do their thing. There's not a lot to explore. Our dog is a beagle, he wants to sniff and explore and he covers that in about ten minutes. Fabulous park for my furry friends. I brought my 12-year old Rottie mix, Torie, to the park. I was a bit worried because although she is big and friendly, she doesn't run fast and has been bit by other dogs through no fault of her own. I was very pleased with the other dogs and their owners. Everyone was very attentive and she had lots of dogs to play with. I was happy that she was also able to go into the small dog section because of her age and she enjoyed that as well. This area is completely fenced in and is very safe with places for humans to sit, bags in a dispenser, and water bowls/ a few toys. My only wish is that it wasn't so darn muddy when it rains. read more

My wife and I live in the city and we have a rambunctious beagle, Teddy. We are always on the lookout for dog parks we can take him to. We came at the recommendation of some friends who bring their golden retriever here. It was ridiculously muddy! Apparently it is like that thought the majority of the year. It also rather small for a dog park. The other dogs and owners were very nice and friendly. My pups love frolicking and socializing at Amherst Paw Park. It's about time WNY got a designated dog park! 3 things to be aware of: 1. Bring your own poo bags and pick up after your furry friends, otherwise you might take some of the park home on your shoes...; 2. Bring water for your own dogs and try not to share with other dogs (yucky germs can spread!); 3. The park area can be muddy and wet. If you have a dog that loves to roll in mud, beware! My pup really enjoys playing here. There is a ton of space to run around and get all of her craziness out for the day. (And that makes mama happy when we get back home!) I've been to the park 3-4 times now and every time the other owners have been polite and considerate and attentive to their dogs. A couple of things to remember to bring along: 1) a water bowl and water for your pup 2) a towel to wipe your pups paws before heading home; it can get muddy -- or another dog might be a bit of a drooler and you or your dog will get covered :) 3) a car seat cover (blanket, towel), again, in case there are muddy paws involved 4) poop bags! This is the perfect dog park if your furry friend does not have the greatest recall. Unlike the Ellicott Island dog park, where a dog off his leash is bound to run out of sight very quickly, this park is fenced in and small enough that owners' eyes can always be on the pups. The fence that separates the small/submissive dogs from the big dogs is much appreciated. Benches, doody bags, and water are provided here for convenience. A shelter in the big dog section is great for snowy/drizzly days as well. I do wish there was a shelter in the small dog section as well, but funds must be tight as this is a volunteer-run park. Remember to bring a towel for cleaning up your pup before getting back in the car. It gets a bit muddy here. As always, keep an eye on your dog, clean up after it, watch behavior and body language, and know when it's time to go. And of course, have fun! read more

This is great little dog park that like most others is split into a big dog and a little dog section. There are plenty of benches to sit on and bowls for the dogs to drink from. While this park doesn't rate as high with me as Knox Farm or Dog Island, it's a good place to stop at for a quick play close by. read more

This is a great dog park. As the owner of a 6-lb Chihuahua, I appreciate having separate sections for small and large dogs. My only slight quibble is that I wish the park had some more shade. On hot days, my dog starts panting very quickly, and there isn't much space that he can go to cool off. I do realize that the park is volunteer run and funds are probably limited - hopefully at some point in the future they will have the means to plant some more trees or put up some shelter. read more

I loved this park until owners of aggresive dogs started to come-and not leave! Three times my dog was attacked, pinned to the ground and blood drawn. I will never put my dog in that situation again. Twice it was the same dog ( who everyone says is really a good dog, yea right, see if that opinion remains when you have to take your dog to the vet)! I really am disappointed in the owners of these dogs. If its your contention that dogs are dogs, and that's how they work things out- have a great time! read more

The park is NOT SAFE. My 14 ib dog was very badly mauled by a pit bull there this week and almost died, and my other dog was attacked too. What angers me is I wasn't even in the big dog area where the pit bull was roaming. I was in the entrance "holding area" opening the door to the small dog section when the pit bull managed to CRAWL UNDER THE CHAIN FENCE of the big dog area into the holding area and attack my two dogs. So the fence is not as secure as it looks if a big dog wants to get through, and the "small dog park" provides a false sense of security. Sure, maybe most dogs won't be as determined as that pit bull to wedge their body under the fence, but is it really worth your dog's life to risk it? I talked to the police about fixing the park, and they said there is nothing they can do as the county just leases the land and doesn't own or maintain the park. In the meantime, I'm in the process of rehabilitating my dog who would not have been attacked if the park had been properly fenced and if owners accurately knew their dog's propensity towards violence. read more
