Love this place!! My dog has a place in the city where she can walk around and explore off-leash. She is not very playful, and pretty shy/introverted, but the other dogs are usually friendly and we don't really have any issues. I'm kind of annoyed that they're doing construction at Lasalle park now. The barkyard wasn't perfect, it was essentially just a fenced in patch of grass with some benches, a water fountain and a few trees, but that's really all you need. I'm not sure how long it'll be closed for construction, but i hope it turns out well!! They currently have a temporary dog park nearby, but it kinda sucks. Anyways, the barkyard is (was) usually calm, quiet and clean. Grass was moderately maintained and people picked up their dog poop for the most part. I also love that its in the city, where there arent a lot of places for my dog to run around elsewhere. Yeah, 5 stars! Hopefully it opens up again soon! read more

There is not currently any access to the Barkyard as half the park is closed for renovations. When last I was there I experienced the issue mentioned by others that some owners were not cleaning up after their dogs. Overall it was serviceable, a rectangle of fenced in area with shade and a water source where dogs could safely play. Got a nice breeze off the lake as well. read more

This park was really great. Spacious. Water fountain. Double fence to enter and exit. I just don't get people. People make dog parks have issues. Why are you bringing your small children to a DOG PARK to be knocked over and jumped on. Even a well behaved dog can get rowdy at a park meant for play time. Last week we decided to end our visit early because some parents were letting their toddler run around the park basically alone with a bunch of dogs they don't know. Also please take your dogs off the leash before entering the park. It makes the dog feel less anxious being greeted by all the dogs inside. Overall it was an ok experience. I cant really fault the park because of some people I don't agree with. I hope I can come back and have a better time. Also the location isn't my favorite. read more

I had to paws to see if that was the real name. That's a ruff name for a park. Actually it's super cute, even if the pups poodle all over your Pumas. I guess they're Poo-mas now. Your dog does not have to be on a leash here! How awesome is that! So fur, I've never seen any dog kill any other dog either. Yelp HQ are cool and I seem to have friends there now, but they don't always actually read what they're deleting. I've been to this dog park probably more than any other dog park on earth (and yes, Starlight has been here), but some very bored person flagged it (incorrectly) and they deleted it for "not being a first-hand experience" (incorrectly). I forgive them. Not only do I come here often (I play soccer in LaSalle and half my friends have dogs and I should really charge for dog walking since I've done it so many times now, and this is my favourite place to walk dogs because it's right by the gorgeous river and lake), but Starlight has been here too, and amazingly she's not afraid of dogs. But she is afraid of Lakes. Anyway, as I said before: This is a tiny little doggy park in LaSalle, right by the Niagara River where it meets Lake Erie, where I play football (soccer) on the worst field in town. If you need a place to let your doggy run free, then you're barking up the right tree! The park and the views of the lake are paws-itively adorable! Remember to scoop up your poop! And your doggy's poop! And if you're cute, sell it on E-Bay to gross people. If it were full of extensively-covered Muslim females, it'd be the Burqayard, but it's actually for everyone in any form of dress. Especially dogs. And Starlight. read more

On occasion I spend some time here. Usually in the afternoon and usually with a pretty friendly mid-sized dog. Located in LaSalle Park it's got some beautiful views of Lake Erie. I often walk the dog along the water after visiting the dog park. I could easily walk the dog here if the dog park was too busy too, it's long and tons of fun for the dog, lots to sniff along the way. The dog park itself is only ok. There are a few reasons that's the case. One is it's petty muddy a lot of the time. I get that it's hard to manage the water but I'm sure there is a way. Another is that it's not always cleaned up. I don't get the dog owners who don't pick up after their dogs but seems to happen here more often than it should. I hold the owners responsible for this but think the city could provide bags like they do at Delaware Park to help prevent it. The city needs to clean and groom this dog run more often. This is actually two different fenced in areas, one sign says small dogs and the other big dogs. But when I have been there that's not how it has broken down. So I guess you can go either side depending on who is in the other one. The people the dogs bring with them are a varied and nice bunch. I've never seen anything other than dogs playing in the dog runs but I imagine that may just be luck. Super easy parking here. This is our go-to dog park living in the upper west side. There is a small (under 30lbs) side and an all dogs side. Both sides have water bowls and ample shade and a couple of benches. It's usually pretty empty in the morning but gets a good group in the evening for socializing and playing. You can't beat the breeze off the water, especially on hot days. My dog isn't always sociable with other dogs so I probably wouldn't have ever come here, but my friend just got a new puppy and she lives in the area so I suggested we check this place out. This is your typical dog park - fenced in yard style with separate sections for big and small dogs. It was pretty muddy on the big dog side and things did seem a little chaotic when we got there, but I noticed that all of the owners there had excellent control over their dogs. They were all incredibly friendly and gave my friend advice on her new dog, and made us both feel welcome. There are doggy water fountains so your pup never gets thirsty. I can't remember if they had poop bags available for owners so be sure to bring your own, just in case. There's garbage cans in the area and a port-o-potty nearby for us humans. We had such a wonderful experience here that I'd come back with my friend if we're ever in the area again! read more

Great park close by to bring my dog to. Two areas, one for small dogs and one for large. I have only been here March-April so it's muddy, I imagine it will be more green in the summer. It's in a beautiful spot by the water! If you're there during the sunset it's absolutely gorgeous. My only gripe with this park is that people tend to bring unfriendly dogs and take up a side of the park to themselves. If your dog is not friendly, please don't bring it here. If your dogs come charging at my dog on the other side of the fence, barking aggressively- doesn't seem fair that I cannot come into the fenced area when we have every right to. Also, people need to watch their dogs. Please neuter/spay your dogs. And pick up your poop. The majority of the people I have encountered here are friendly, as well as the dogs. There have been a few instances that are quite annoying. read more

My experience at the Barkyard was overall good, but there were some things that I felt I needed to share. I'll start with the good. There is a great area for the dogs to drink water and it's divided into two portions: one for small dogs, one for large. It was kept clean, grass short, and I didn't have any issues with any poop or trash laying around. I saw some places where you could sit and there were ample shade and sunshine on the day I went. Generally, people kept a good eye on their dogs. Bonus, I left my dog's frisbee on the roof of my car and went back for it almost two hours later and it was still there. That was a pleasant surprise considering where we were in the city. Now for the not-so-good... there was an uncapped syringe against a curb cut going into the parking lot that my dog came within a few inches of stepping on. Again, it comes with that part of the city, but that was scary for my family. Some of the dog owners aren't as attentive as they should be, and one dog ended up mounting my girl twice. Now, a mistake is fine and the owner quickly apologized after I pulled him off, but then about a minute later, it happened again and the owner was oblivious until I was shrieking at her after I pulled my dog away again. She left shortly after and I'm sorry she wasn't comfortable, but it is explicitly written in the rules at the front gate that mounting is NOT allowed. There was also a man who let his VERY small dog (I'm talking toy poodle size) loose in the above 30-pound section while there were dogs in the small-dog section. A lot of the dogs there were at least 50 pounds, so I was concerned for that dog's welfare. I was with my best friend and her dog, who is very timid and mild-mannered, and a different dog bit my friend's dog. The other dog owner seemed to blame my friend's dog, so we left shortly after. My friend's dog had her tail between her legs for a few hours after. There's the occasional oblivious person who leaves the gate(s) open, but nothing bad happened so that's just something to be aware of. My fully vaccinated, up-to-date, and healthy dog also got sick after going here -- about a week and a half later, her vet thinks she has kennel cough. It's not terrible, just again shows how a small number of careless or inattentive owners can really ruin the experience for other people. Overall, my gripes with this dog park besides the syringe are definitely a small percentage of the people. I'll probably be back. I loved seeing all the different dogs, chatting with a few owners, and seeing my dog so happy running and playing in a little pack. read more

Absolutely Love the bark yard! If you live in the city you know how hard it is to get your dog the exercise it needs. I have a small backyard that doesn't seem to do justice for my border collie/cattle dog pup named Abby. The rules: The off the leash policy is great so the dogs can socialize and chase each-other for hours! Which is much longer than I can run with her! :-p Make sure your dog is dog friendly. There's nothing worse than a grumpy pup to ruin everyone's fun. Lastly, be kind and don't leave the poop behind! Bags and disposables are provided for a reason! The layout: 2 different spots for big and little dogs. A watering hole that is always on!! Thank god. Dog lovers everywhere come here which is great. I've gotten a lot of good tips and advice from other go owners. Great way to meet new people who have the same interests as you too! read more

I have a 4 month old puppy, so we try to get him out and socialize him with other dogs as often as we can. He's pretty attached to us, so we want to get him to branch out and not be such an only child. This park was perfect for that. The main thing to consider is this- let's just be thankful that the city of Buffalo finally built a dog park, and has finally found a good use for some unused public space. Yay! Now let's get a dozen more of these around the city. It's fairly spacious, two sections for large or small dogs. It's plenty of space for the little dogs to run. Not a lot of shade on a hot summer day. The large dog side has a few more trees. There are a few benches for humans and a dog water fountain. It's mostly just wide open space where your dog can run off leash. It's also a nice place to take your pup on a long walk on the waterfront. We did that first, so by the time we got to the dog park he was already pooped. There's a small parking lot right across from the dog park. Also...beautiful views of the water. read more

One for dogs under 10 lb and another for bigger dogs. Ample space, has water fountain inside the park, benches and plenty of trees for shade. Across from the water. Breezy. This IS Buffalo's only official dog park. I bring my rascally Jack Russell here and he has the time of his doggy life in the small dog area playing with the other dogs. The park is well maintained but the water fountain is sometimes out of order. So if you have an active dog that get's thirsty bring your own water. During the warmer months you can ride your bike here with the dog, play in the park, and then ride along the scenic waterfront to round out your day. Be forewarned, this place is windy since it's on the waterfront. Also, the summer months tend to be the time when the newbies are bringing their dogs to the park and it gets a bit unruly. I find the colder days are less crowded and peaceful times to bring your dog. read more

We bring our dog Abby here when we are in the area. It is a nice big dog park and our experiences have been good so far. It is cleaner than most of the other parks I have been too, I don't see too many poo orphans. The owners are pretty seem to have a nice mix of being chatty and watching their dogs. There is plenty of shade which is nice, especially during the hot summer months. There is a water fountain for the dogs, but it is only on for the warmer months, so make sure you have some extra water i your car just in case. I like it here and will continue to come. A tip for first timers... take your dog off their leash in the sally-port(the first fenced in area). This makes your dog less stressed and less likely to act aggressively. As an added bonus, you won't have to get in between your dog and others as they are trying to play and you are trying to get the leash off. read more

Great dog park with both a small dog side and an all dogs side. My family will all meet up here with our pups because it is right in the middle of where I live and my brother lives. It's a big park with a built in water fountain, benches, and a concrete sitting area that is really good for blocking the wind off the lake. It gets very very very windy here! Which is good for the summer but bad in the winter. The whole park is nice to walk with your dogs as it goes in one big loop. The view of the lake is a plus! read more

The Barkyard is nothing spectacular in terms of equipment or state of the art dog parks however it is amazing especially if you live in the city and do not have a yard! There is a decent amount of space and most owners are genuine and bring their dog if it likes other dogs/ enjoys other dogs company. Please note don't be discouraged by the discarded chewed up or shredded toys you may encounter. Not all are chewed up by dogs. Some are chewed up by the lawn mower. Also a tip for yelpers... BRING BUG SPRAY. Seems to be a lot of bugs there but not necessarily mosquitoes... just little flies that will bother you in the summer evenings. read more

Today we decided to take the pups to The Barkyard for a little bit of play time. This was our second time coming here since moving to Buffalo and even though I wasn't a big fan the first time around I thought it was time to give this place a second chance. This park offers a side for the little dogs and also a side for the big dogs and little dogs who like to have fun with the big guys. I actually really enjoyed this park today and it totally changed my perception of it. The play areas are both a pretty good size and both sides offer plenty of shade and both sides even have fountains of water to quench the dogs thirst. We went here in the middle of the winter so it was pretty cold and a bit muddy. It was a great space though with a nice area for small dogs and another for all dogs. There's a parking lot, water, and garbage cans - some pretty important essentials. The dogs there were well behaved and it seemed like the owners were responsible dog park participants. I've been taking my dog here since it opened and I love it! I've never had a problem with other dogs--for the most part the patrons of this park do a great job following public space etiquette although the poop pickup can get a little lax sometimes. Follow the rules and you won't have any problems. There's a water fountain for the dogs that usually gets turned on in May and two new shelters on both sides for people for the socrching days. It's a great, secure spot to exercise your dog whether you're coming from the burbs or the city. Park is opened year round. read more

Max, my fur baby, and I love the Barkyard! What is not to love? Wide open spaces to run, sniff and play. This dog park is very well kept. The grass is mowed regularly. There is water for the pups. There are always balls to play fetch with, I think most people that frequent the puppy play areas will purchase an extra ball over the summer and leave behind for all to share. Max and I are ready for slightly warmer weather so we can make this a frequent evening stop. We hope to see David C. and little loving Avenger here real soon! read more

I enjoy bringing my dogs here for a few reasons. One-its right on the water so the view is delightful. There's, as usual, a large and small dog side to the park. On the large dog side it does have a sign saying they do not recommend anything under 10 pounds entering. The actual park is nice. There's plenty of grass for the dogs. My favorite part is the doggy water fountain, I wish all parks had. There are benches scattered throughout the park which is nice for the humans. This park is also very clean which I love. read more

My pup Baker LOVES this dog park. It is clean with extra poop baggies if you forget yours. They keep the grass mowed and have a water fountain for the pups. It is a wide open space with views of the water. Everyone that comes here is respectful and I have never had an issue with an out-of-control dog. I come here at least once a week! read more

Love that we have an off leash dog park in the area! I used to live in LA and they were all over - there were two within walking distance. It is a great chance for your dogs to socialize with other people and dogs. They have a separate area for small dogs - so you don't need to worry about them getting trampled. This park has a separate yard for small dogs (under 30 lbs), which is great. Lots of space to run around, a few shady areas, and a water fountain for the dogs with bowls set out. I've been 3-4 times and never had issues with poop left behind or anything. People seem friendly, and it's easy to tell if someone doesn't feel like striking up a conversation; they just keep to themselves. The view of the water on a sunny day is awesome, too. read more

Love this area. We have been going for over a year now with our Cane Corso/Rottweiler mix. She loves it there! Some people are rude & dont pay any attention to the rules, but that happens everywhere. The majority of the people are regulars and are very nice. I dont like all the toys everywhere. These have the habit of turning normal fun loving dogs into maniacs. So we try to avoid toys at the park. go in the mornings during the week to avoid large crowds. evenings and weekends can get kind of crazy. Over all, this is a great place for responsible pet owners to socialize their dogs. read more

Very nice off leash park on the water. The grass is kept nice ,green ,and short and there's a water fountain for the dogs. There are two gated yards one did small digs and one for large or all dogs. I don't recommend taking your small dog on the all dogs side. Not all large dogs like small dogs and that can be dangerous to your fur baby. My dog always has a blast here with his fur friends. read more
