Throughout the years, I've always loved coming to this restaurant with friends and family. And this recent visit while in town did not disappoint! Upon arrival, a friendly host found us comfortable booth seating behind the bar. The waitress not only answered our food allergy related questions pertaining to certain dish prep but the manager came over to our table to assure us that she would be double checking our order to make sure there was no allergen cross contamination. Such a kind, thoughtful gesture! Mom and I ordered the sampler to split - a huge tray filed with delish gluten free chips, a delish bowl salsa verde, a delish bowl of homemade guacamole, and a delish bowl of homemade cheese sauce. For my lunch, I got two of my favorite tacos on their menu still, the California Club ones, large tacos filled with roasted chicken, a tasty like crema, and avocado. Went for a late dinner on a weeknight & were seated immediately. This restaurant has recently been remodeled, so it has some more retro vibes than before, with the bar now in the middle. It took a while for a server to see us, but then it was fast to get our drinks as well as food once orders were placed. Tacos were alright, Cali club was messy & drippy. Homeboy was good but I don't think I'd get the spicy version again - not overly spice just overly sauced. The appetizer trio was good, but seemed expensive at $14. Decent tacos, fast service. I was really excited to try this place, as it always seems to be busy and I had heard good things! My husband and I stopped in on a Friday night to see what it was all about. We ordered some drinks (I got a house margarita, he got a PBR + tequila shot), an appetizer sampler, and a few different tacos. I ordered the Oy Vey & General Homeboy + the green chile rice on the side, while my husband got the Hot Chicken and the Sloppy Jose + the Mexican corn on the side. My marg was pretty good - not super strong, so I used some of my husband's tequila shot to turn it up a notch. I liked the queso + salsa in the appetizer sampler; however, the guac was lacking - seemed like they may have forgotten to put lime in it? As for the tacos, they were all good, but nothing blew my mind. I had lunch today with a colleague based on her recommendation. Boy was it a good recommendation. I arrived and was created by the friendliest waitress. Upon hearing it was my first time, she responded "you're in for a treat" and she was right! Based on the weather, I ordered the chicken tortilla soup with a side of plantains! Phenomenal. It came with a bowl with meat, cilantro, tomatoes, and a lime. I'm dairy-free so no cheese. Then based on recommendation from the waitress, I swapped out the soup for the vegetarian option because if it more flavorful. I haven't had the chicken stock but the vegetarian option was fire!! The plantains are the sweet kind and we're also good. Overall excellent meal and service! But note ... parking is difficult. I circled the lot a few times before finding a spot. The tacos on this menu are such a fun variety! I got the 2 tacos and a side -- I was unsure if it would be enough but I was too full to finish it! The side I got was the street corn (pretty good!) and the tacos were the taco royale and the general homeboy. The chorizo was a highlight for sure! Disaster since they opened back up. To go team consistently gets orders wrong with little to no apology. They staple the bags closed so difficult to check or at least annoying. We stopped here during a visit to the aquarium and thoroughly enjoyed our lunch. The 2 tacos + a side deal was great, we were able to get a variety of tacos to try and go the fried plantains which were excellent. Though the chips and salsa aren't complimentary, the mango salsa we got was superb, it had clearly been made fresh. As soon as we walked in we were met by Bob who went above & beyond, setting a great tone for the taco joint. Their portion sizes = phenomenal.. very filling yet but not in a bleh way. I got the "nacho mamas" nachos, & the dish was delicious. All the toppings were well spread out & each chip had something on it. That's a big win in my book. Located in the corner of the strip with several other businesses, there is a decent amount of parking. Handicapped parking is right by the entrance as well as at the end of the building. The parking lot is smooth so travel is pretty easy from the spaces to the door. Walking in there is a small podium with the host/ hostess. We were greeted immediately and taken to a booth and given menus. There is also a covered outdoor seating area. Our server came by within a few minutes and took our drink order. The drinks arrived shortly and we placed our food order. The food came out within about 10 minutes. We also ordered the salsa as an appetizer. It came out in about five minutes and seemed fresh, It's slightly chunky, with a little bit of heat. Chips were fine but nothing special. The taco choices are very interesting. I tried the Caribbean Jerk chicken and the Korean BBQ, with the green chili rice as the side. My dining partner had the Baja fish and Steakhouse tacos with Mexican street corn as the side. The tacos arrived wrapped in an aluminum foil bowl. The Caribbean Jerk was disappointing to say the least. I got a nice mango flavor, but no jerk seasoning, and certainly nothing spicy. The chicken also tasted old, with a "dusty" flavor. The Korean BBQ was fine, but nothing exciting. Both tacos fell apart before I finished eating due to the amount of liquid retained in the foil bowl from the added salsa and pickled onion. The green chili rice was a bit dry and very limited in flavor. I would not have picked out the flavor without the menu description. My dining partner was happier with the choices. The Baja fish did not have much fish, and definitely had a fishy smell, but the flavor was fine. The Steakhouse was the best of the four tried and would merit another order. The Mexican Street corn was easily the best item ordered. Flavorful and seemed freshly made. Although I commend the many different choices for tacos, the execution was less than expected. Service: LOUSY...worst I've experienced in Tennessee. Too much bro-brah-blah-blah amongst the wait staff. We were seated, order taken and then basically abandoned to fend for ourselves. We never received the water we requested. Sat and watched the waiter talk to a woman at the bar for the next 20 minutes. After we were finally able to flag down the guy we thought was our waiter to verify a question we had on the dish we were served, we continued to be ignored and forgotten. Eventually, when we were ready to leave we had to find someone to get the check for us. The food was sub-par for what we were expecting. The overall ambiance was ruined by the fact that the average age of the wait staff had to have been under 24 years old. It showed in their service. It showed in their dress. Taco Mamacitas is a decent spot for a meal and a margarita fix after shopping on Chattanooga's northside. We stopped in from the rain for a weekday lunch, and sat at their bar. Our exceedingly friendly and knowledgeable server immediately got us a couple of pretty good black Cadillac margaritas, which we followed up with skinny margaritas, which were strangely fizzy but did the trick. Lunch was fine. The queso blanco was good, alongside the thoughtful offering of vegetarian tacos (avocado, black bean, and vegetable). Went here after a hike after high recommendations. There was outdoor seating but no supportive back. After we were seated it did take forever for someone to come to us, and only after we did some significant staring in that direction. There was actually ice in the water, which was a welcome surprise. We ordered a mango salsa to start. It came out quickly. The salsa itself wasn't very sweet like the mango wasn't ripe enough. There was heat in the rest of the salsa though. The hot chicken taco was good, spicy and flavorful. The taco royale was definitely missing something. The chicken was lackluster and seemed dry.
