Honestly, the food was good. But I'm giving a 1-star review because my experience was so bad I can't see myself returning. I don't normally send drinks back, but the margarita I ordered just wasn't going down well. When I mentioned that I'd like to have what my date was having, I was told they would take it away but leave it on the tab. I explained, as a former food server, I have never made a guest pay for something they were unhappy with, especially something they were not going to consume. Instead of the waiter resolving this himself, he fetches the bartender, who argues the drink was made how it was supposed to be and "we don't do sampling here." After I explained to him that, being currently unemployed, I don't feel good being made to pay for something that I was not going to consume in a restaurant, he apologized, made a different drink and fetched me my check that I asked for. Amigos, you should know this is appalling service. I won't be back and hopefully others will gain some perspective on this experience and judge accordingly. read more

Terrible faux Mexican. Tasteless, low-quality ingredients made with ZERO care and ZERO attempt at authenticity. It's so bad it's almost offensive - whoever is cooking in this place has completely given up. The audacity of the owner to charge for this food is astounding. And what's with the rice puffs instead of tortilla chips? Was some calculation made that they are cheaper? I ordered "Enchiladas Mole" - the chicken had a weird taste, the mole was a candied brown mystery sauce. My wife ordered "nachos" that had some tasteless, grainy approximation of cheese and sallow chips that were basically inedible. Avoid this place like the plague. Taco Tuesday! Met our daughter who lives in Rhode Island here on a Tuesday night. Arrived just before 5, and we were asked if we had a reservation. Looking around the almost empty restaurant, I assumed the question was just part of their procedure. What a kitschy place. Decked out with day of the dead objects and even a gift shop. Taco Tuesday - all tacos half price for dine in. So it turned out to be a very tasty, inexpensive meal. 3 choices for type of taco you want with a protein. When my taco shell started falling apart, I asked our very nice sever for another. He brought back a couple of warmed up tortillas. Nice. My mango margarita was good. Not strong at all. Decent size. We shared dessert - cinnamon churros. The dipping sauces (chocolate & vanilla) - yum. At this point, I looked around the restaurant & noticed it was quite full. I took my family out for our first dinner of the year on Saturday February 15th to celebrate Valentine's Day and Amigos made it truly special. My wife, our 7-year-old daughter, and our 1-year-old had an absolutely wonderful time thanks to the welcoming and fun atmosphere. Our waiter Logan was outstanding. He absolutely nailed it. He made me feel like the coolest husband when he brought out my wife's strawberry rhubarb margarita with two straws so we could be all dorky and romantic. On our way out he even took a moment to tell me how well-behaved our kids were and that he hoped we'd return soon. That meant a lot to me. Autumn and I were already proud of how well they behaved, but a big part of that was the restaurant's thoughtful pacing. The appetizers and main courses arrived at just the right time, and the staff made sure the kids got their food and drinks firs, an absolute game changer for dining with little ones. The seating was great, the lighting was calm, and the staff took the time to truly listen to our daughter, making her feel included and valued. Every dish was delicious, especially the red snapper, and I can't wait to come back for the chile rellenos. I also order the mango habanero hot wings for takeout every month, and they never miss! This lovely little place in downtown Westerly across the street from the United Theater is just the place to get your Mexican food on! I met two friends for an early dinner on a Friday and it was pleasantly empty around 3:30pm. The server took awhile to get to us but once she did we were well served. I really wanted a marguerita, they looked delish, but I had to get on the road at the end of the day and didn't think that was wise. We ordered chips and guacamole which was homemade and super tasty. He ordered spicy fish and chips, she ordered fish tacos, and I ordered enchiladas verdes. We all declared our dishes tasty. One star off for the mexican rice, which wasn't fully cooked so that she and I were picking rice kernels out of our mouths as we ate. Maybe next time we'll send the rice back, but there will be a next time! read more

I want to give this place more stars! My friend and I spent a delightful day shopping the great boutiques in downtown Westerly and decided to eat lunch here because the smells coming out the door were intoxicating! It wasn't as busy as it should have been at 1pm on a Thursday but I hope they have the busier times they deserve at night or on the weekends. With the giant bar in one of the rooms, I imagine they have a great weekend meeting spot. We started with chips and salsa. Everything about this place is so authentic, the homemade chips included. There were so many tempting choices on the menu but we finally decided on the taco salad and the combination taco plate. We both were so satisfied but I must rave about the salad. Hands down, it was the best taco salad I've ever eaten! Usually they are boring and unsatisfying but this was chock filled of everything yummy including ground beef and avocado. I really should have split it in two and taken half home but I could stop eating it! Our server was so pleasant and accommodating! What a pleasant experience in a quaintly decorated place! This place is hands-down one of the best places I've had ceviche. The flavors were incredible and not to mention the presentation was beautiful as well. I appreciated that they gave a lot of tortilla chips to go with it. Other items I tried on the menu included the fried ice cream and churros. Can't go wrong with good old churros. The place is very beautiful by the way. When I went, it had a very 'dia delos muertos' theme going on. Staff are super friendly here too. During the time I visited it was already late at night (past 9) and there were hardly any other people there, so I didn't worry too much about social distancing. Westerly is a somewhat magical place with a really quaint small town feel. We found Westerly while we were stationed in Connecticut and frequently drove into town to eat at the Malted Barley which is fantastic. Just this week however, one of my friends took me to taco Tuesday in Westerly and that's how I found this restaurant. When we arrived, there was ample parking on the street, and we were able to get in the door quickly. Once inside, we waited behind another party for at least 15 or 20 minutes before one of the employees realized that nobody was seating parties and and hurriedly sat the table before us. They then came to us and requested if we had a preference on the dining room or the bar and we picked the dining room. They sat us in the very back part of the restaurant, in the corner. It was dark and awkward, but it gave us some quiet to catch up. Our waitress greeted us after some time and took our drink orders while we looked over the menu. It was taco Tuesday which meant the tacos were $2 each and they had three different kinds of taco with many different kinds of meats to choose from. They also had the regular menu to order off of, for those who didn't want tacos. Once we were ready to order, we had to flag our waitress down again. I ordered the platanos fritos starter and a vegetarian burrito with queso sauce and I specifically requested no bell peppers. My friend ordered the edamame ginger guacamole to start and she ordered one of each style of taco, each with shrimp. Unfortunately there must have been some misunderstanding because our waitress had a very difficult time discerning that my friend wanted one of each type of taco and not all the same taco. I don't understand how this was misinterpreted. While we were waiting for our food to arrive, they seated another table next to us, despite the rest of the restaurant being basically empty. The two guys at the table next to us were very intrusive and kept asking us questions about our food. At one point, one of the guys actually said "whatever you girls don't eat just hand over to me and I'll have it" and he wasn't joking. Throughout the rest of our dining, they kept evesdropping and interjecting in our conversation and it made me very uncomfortable. Finally our food arrived. The guacamole was chunky and the texture was good but the ginger was overdone for the delicateness of the edamame and the guacamole. The ginger was just too harsh and overpowering and overwhelmed the rest of the flavors. My platanos were overcooked and almost burned, but I guess in some ways even burned platanos are better than no platanos? Once we got to our entrees, things just continued to go downhill. My friend did get all three tacos with shrimp, but they were not the three different ones as she ordered. My burrito was also a mess, full of bell peppers even though that's what I specifically requested not to have. The waitress also brought the cheese sauce on the side instead of substituting the cheese sauce for the green sauce on the burrito. The burrito itself was also very messy and because of that was difficult to eat. Prices seemed high for the overall lack of skill in taking orders and making orders. I felt like they had a pretty impressive range of items on the menu including Asian fusion and traditional Mexican cuisine including cactus, but they thoroughly missed the mark on their cooking. The biggest issue I think was the order taking, given that half of our items were incorrect. I don't think I will probably return here, however I do think that my friend will return because it's the closest Mexican restaurant to her house and she believes that even bad Mexican food isn't really that bad. This is our second time at Amigos. They have a nice atmosphere with an amazing menu. My favorites include the Fried Plantains with condensed milk & cinnamon powder to start and the Lobster & Oaxaca Cheese Chiles Rellenos. Being a fan of Chile Rellenos adding lobster to it makes it a guaranteed win! Since we usually come here after drinking at the Tapped Apple, we have never ordered from the bar; however, they do have a nice full service bar and it looks like they make an amazing margarita! Westerly is such a fun town to walk through with a bunch of really nice shops well worth stopping into. All of this walking around and shopping it is nice to have such an amazing place to eat right in the heart of it all. read more

A few months ago I came here with my parents and we waited for drinks for over 30 minutes and another 30-45 minutes on top of that for our food. This past weekend I came here with my friends for dinner and drinks and we all honestly questioned whether they put any alcohol in our drinks. I'm a Californian born and raised on delicious Mexican food, and know the range Mexican food can have from family to family. When we bought a home in Westerly, I was excited to see that Amigos had pretty positive reviews here and there. I hate to say it, but I can't figure out why. I won't bother with a ton of flowery descriptions about what's wrong, but here's my quick and dirty list: 1) Ordered a plain margarita with really high end tequila, and it came with crappy sweet and sour mix. They make them with fresh squeezed lime... only if you ask. 2) Asked for a tiny taste of the mole sauce. Less than a spoonful so I knew to order it or not. Mole is so wildly different from place to place, and if you're proud of it, you'd want to show it off. The kitchen said no, but I could buy a side. No. 3) The "chips" they give out are super weird whipped and air injected things in the shape of flowers that had a spicy powder on them. I didn't even realize they had corn chips until another table got an order. 4) The kitchen seems to just ignore change requests. I can't stand tomatillo sauce as it's not rich, but tangy. I had asked for red sauce and no onions on top, and it came with tomatillo sauce and a pile of onions all over it. 5) Their chicken has no flavor. It's not far from shredded boiled chicken. I'm so bummed. I was so excited to come here since I'd love to have authentic Mexican when we're staying out here, and it's one of the most disappointing restaurants in Westerly I've been to. read more

There are a number of good Mexican restaurants in the Westerly-Mystic area and Amigos is one of them. One of the things I usually look for on the menu is a torta. There wasn't a torta but there was a hamburger that sounded pretty close. It was great burger, cheese, chorizo not on a bola but two slices of a very good bread. Dressed up with some pickled onions and peppers, perhaps some frijoles it could pass for a torta. The serving was big enough for two so perhaps I'll dress up my take home. The taco selection was great. Amigos is one of the few places that you can find lengua. All in all good food pleasant service. I've been here a few times and definitely will be back. read more

First of all this is a nice place. Regular bar to the left side seating to eat on the right. During the week and during the day the help is in short supply but the bar tender or the one other person available was very helpful. The food is very good much better then typical bar food. The fajitas with tofu was tasty but the tofuitself had no flavor. The portions are big enough to fill anyone up. The fried oyster tacos was decent sized portion for the average person and tasty. Came here a few weeks ago with a group of people after a day of working out. Nicely decorated and fun looking. Staff was friendly. They bring you out these fried rings of some sort and a dipping sauce while you order. These things were hard to out down, very crispy and tasty. I ordered a beer and a shot of quervo silver (not expensive) tequila and was charged $13 by the bartender. I ordered the same beer at the table with no shot and it was $4.50 which means they charge $8.50 for mediocre tequila which is a bit steep. I had their Amigos salad with the grilled chicken as I'm not at all a Mexican food fan. Its my least favorite type of food. The salad was good, we had fun. Im giving a 3 because im not a fan of that cosine and i felt a little ripped off on my shot of tequila but if you like Mexican and a fun place, go here. read more

If you're looking for a restaurant in the Westerly RI area, you might have come across my thoughts on a different restaurant in the area. My wife and I are thrilled we went to Amigo's. The atmosphere was lively, and more importantly, the food was delicious. My wife had the Ahi Tuna Tostada, and loved every bite. I ordered the Pollo Patron, and enjoyed it very much. It was so good, I kept eating it after I was full. I do not regret that decision. Went this evening with my sister and everything was amazing and delicious! But I really wanted to comment on the service. The service was BEYOND spectacular. I asked the hostess our waiters name on the way out, which was Jacob, specifically because he was the best server I've ever had. I wanted to recognize him by name for his excellent work. I worked in the restaurant industry for over a decade and he was so attentive, but also timely! He checked on us regularly but not more than necessary. The service honestly made it such a great experience. And the food was absolutely delicious; the mango habanero wings were sweet and spicy paired perfectly with the Gorgonzola. We went in around 2 for a late lunch. Seated immediately with menus and water by a good bartender. The medicinal margaritas were fantastic. The vibe was pretty sweet as well as tasteful decor. Tried the Raspberry mole wings off the specials menu and it was PHENOMENAL. I like mole and there were many delightful layers of flavor on these perfectly cooked wings. The special chimichanga was a huge burrito and typically I like them about two inches thick and drowned in sauce however this was welcome because the sauce was delicious as was the meat, rice and veggies inside. When in Westerly, go to Amigos! They have a unique menu and ambiance that makes you want to stay a while. We stopped by for lunch the other day and started off with a salsa flight that was awesome. 4 kinds of salsa and plenty of chips to experiment with. From there, I had the squash salad and my friend had the enchiladas. Both were delicious and the perfect size for lunch. In the past, I've had the burrito with seitan - I am always impressed with the amount of vegetarian options they offer here. The drinks are awesome (and fairly large) too! We'd only been here once before and it was pretty good, so had decided to try it again. The recent negative reviews almost turned us off, but when we asked a couple of locals for their favorite Mexican place, they both said Amigos. Glad we took their advice! The service was great and if anything the waiter was almost too attentive. Granted it was early (5:30) on a cold Wednesday night, so the place was pretty empty, but still... While we would have liked good chips and salsa, their standard is chicharrons (or so the waiter said, but not until my vegetarian partner had eaten some). I had enchiladas mole and my partner had tempeh fajitas and we found both to be excellent. I absolutely love mole, and this was some of the best I've had. Their "handmade margaritas" were a bit too sweet, but still pretty good. My partner ordered a skinny margarita, which should be less sweet, but actually seemed sweeter than mine. I don't think that the waiter or the bartender knew what a skinny margarita was. The ambiance was great with lots of authentic Mexican decorations and artifacts with one area dedicated to a Day of the Dead motif. Very cool. There are some other Mexican places in the Westerly area that have great reviews that we haven't tried yet, but Amigos is definitely somewhere that we'll visit again! read more

We stopped here during a trip to Boston which we randomly found. I love the interior, the food was pretty good $2 Tacos & tacos are standard, guacamole was amazing! And I had a Green Tea Ginger Margarita & it was amazing! They have a menu with "healthy" alcoholic drinks which was very interesting. I would definitely go back. I hate to give bad reviews but this place was awful. Ok let me rephrase that ...the service was great but the food is an insult to Mexican food. I myself am Mexican and just moved here from California. The owner needs to invest is real tortillas and not store bought Ones. The carne asada was literally pot roast and the Adobada was I honestly don't know what it was. Their salsa was sweet umm yea... no! Olives in nachos? I mean come on. I think people here don't know any better so to them it's what they think Mexican food should be or is but they are so far off! Don't mean to sound so critical but that's how bad it was. If you're going for a fun spot with friends, there were a lot of different margaritas and drinks. Instead of the traditional tortilla chips for the table they served chicharrones as an FYI. For a vegetarian, they had the option of tempeh and tofu which I was excited about. I loved the tempeh with their Cabo taco. I got tofu with their traditional and was disappointed. The tofu didn't seem cooked at all. My partner got tacos as well: Cabo taco with tempura shrimp, Cabo taco with tempura scallops, and carne asada traditional.
