Had the pleasure of revisiting this fine establishment last week with my spouse and was not disappointed. Ammoora exceeds your expectations by any standard in a restaurant. We had the pleasure of trying some amazing appetizers recommended by our server.. the spicy hummus, some of the best harissa cauliflower I've had in my life, and the Beyti rolls. For the entree we had the Lamb Shank that was so tender. Ammoora is truly an experience. If you're lucky enough to get seated in the back you almost feel transported to Syria.. With the hospitality shown from the staff this has become my top restaurant in Baltimore. It also has made me and my partner explore parts of the middle east now.. You must try. read more

Valet parking is quick and convenient for $13 added to the bill and the valet encourages tips. The hostess was pleasant and helpful. It was my first time trying the arak drink and it was very strong but in a good way. All of the food was fresh, tasty, and healthy. Came to Ammoora for my birthday celebration! Was with a group of four so we ordered some things to share for the table. It took a bit for us to be helped, and service was decent, though not outstanding, throughout the meal. We briefly interacted with a different waiter who was much more effusive and interactive, which leads me to believe we would have had a different experience had we been seated in their section. The food was quite tasty and well seasoned. The burrata was bright though initially brought without bread with which to eat it. The harissa roasted cauliflower was a standout dish. It was nicely balanced and had great sauces to complement it. The mushrooms were also great. Nice and meaty but still well cooked. Both desserts that we had were quite excellent. Would recommend them both. Beautiful interior design, though could use some sound dampening as it was tough to hear. My advice is to go to Villa Yara or ilili in DC. Those places are not cheap, but they are certainly more authentic and tasty, and not as outrageously overpriced as this place. Any Lebanese or Syrian place that does not bring you a constant supply of bread is a rip off. There is nothing in the ingredients they serve that justifies the high cost, unless they expect you to pay for their choice of furniture. Save your money. Update: The business owner responded to this review by claiming disrespect and that it is too expensive to serve bread (high labor and material cost). I actually think it is disrespectful to the culture they claim to represent to NOT continuously offer their guests bread to eat dishes that are meant to be eaten with... bread. Other restaurants do it and they don't charge nearly as much, and their quality is excellent. Their business model seems to be working just fine. Maybe see this feedback as a genuine critique instead of feeling disrespected and citing an indefensible reason for not being true to Syrian/Lebanese food culture. read more

The interior of this restaurant is so so beautiful with many intricate details. I was in awe the moment I entered. The service was also very professional and attentive, my water cup was always promptly refilled. The hummus and pita were amazing. It tasted like the hummus I was used to having but somehow with more depth and flavor? I couldn't understand how but I loved it. The lamb shank was good as well, the lamb was tender and flavorful. However, my favorite in the dish was the mushrooms, they blew my mind. The pomegranate seeds in the rice were also a surprisingly delicious combination. The lamb kebab was pretty good as well, but definitely the weakest of the three. Still yummy, but not as good as the other two. The kebab itself was a little dry and tough to swallow. My daughter treated me to a birthday dinner to Ammoora & we were all excited ! Sadly, it was a letdown There were 4 of us, including my husband & her husband. She specifically mentioned when she made reservations that it was my birthday & had requested a nice quiet table. We were sat sort of in the middle of the room next to a family with a crying baby . We requested to be moved & was offered the bar area which we declined. Meanwhile, there were other tables that were available in the dining room. ‍ We decided to order some appetizers to share & asked if they could be spaced apart - they arrived pretty much together . SMH ! We also ordered a bottle of red wine that was apparently out of stock but somehow took awhile to inform us of such. Our server brought out a Rose wine as a substitute without consulting us first , what ??? . We ended up choosing another red which took another while at which time, we were almost finished with our appetizers...sigh .... The seared octopus was our fave. Delicious! The Sultana salad was also a fave- crisp & refreshing, it was a perfect combination of greens, apple bits, cashews & pomegranate seeds. The chix roll was tasty, we also loved the spicy chargrilled beef rolls . We were a little disappointed with the baba ghanouj. it lacked flavor. For entrees, we chose the braised lamb shank & the kofte kebabs. Both wonderful choices as they were very good. We didn't order dessert choosing to have it somewhere else instead. They did give me a little sampler of pistachio Turkish delight with a lit candle on it. However, when the check came, it was reflected on the bill . We requested to have it removed which they did. Service was attentive as there were a lot of runners and/or bussers. They have a strict dress code , it is on their website & my daughter was reminded of that fact upon making the reservations. TLDR: 3/5 for food. 5/5 for drinks, ambiance, and service. Would come back for happy hour but not for a meal. The good: Without a doubt, there is no place like this in Baltimore. The atmosphere and decoration transports you to the other side of the Atlantic Ocean! There's so much detail in the decor it's stunning. Throughout our meal, the managers were very sweet and checked in on how we were doing. We started off our dinner with some drinks: arak brun reserve (a very fun, color changing drink), old fashioned date (which my friend enjoyed), and the ulum kultuum (a nice fruity cocktail). I enjoyed that their drink menu had unique flavors and ingredients I don't see in other bars! The mediocre: We dined here for restaurant week, and I was overall disappointed. Complimentary lavash: 5/5 I am amazed at how airy their lavash was without deflating! Halloumi salad: 2/5 Didn't feel cohesive and was quite small. The style was similar to a caprese but the flavor was too strong with the salty halloumi and very acidic dressing. Hummus and brussel sprouts: 4/5 well executed Kebab grill: 3.5/5 Kebabs were cooked well (nice and juicy) but the accompanying rice lacked depth in flavor. I've had similar and even better quality items for cheaper at other restaurants Grouper: 1/5 biggest disappointment, dry and lacked flavor Desserts: 4/5 Backlawa dessert spread was flaky and tasty, and the Dubai chocolate crunch, though different from the original, was delightful and not dense. The phyllo fig pastry was too strong and sweet for our liking. Beautiful restaurant, buzzing ambience, innovative cocktails, mostly delicious food (especially the chicken rolls, the beet salad was meh), prompt and attentive service - this place has it all. The only thing that would put it over the top is a little bit of easy hospitality. We wrote in our reservation that we were celebrating an anniversary, to which we got an email asking if we wanted to organize anything (so they acknowledged it). The server asked us if we were celebrating and we told them. But after that, nothing, zilch. Not expecting a free dessert but just some acknowledgment through maybe writing on the dessert or a candle - I don't know - something easy! I was visiting Baltimore and decided to look for a cool Middle Eastern Mediterranean cuisine and what do you know, I ran into Ammoora. It's a very nice restaurant right next to the Ritz Carlton. The menu is very authentic but also very delicate. It's got amazing options for both cold and hot appetizers. You can also do a fix course menu which is great for 2 people. You can see the selections based on the photos I'm adding here. I went back again the second night and this time I ordered the chicken shish Tawook. I personally liked the lamb kebab better. So if you like red meat, definitely go with that options. I also had their signature dessert which was a Cotton candy ice cream and the Dubai chocolate. I went to an event at Ammoora in Baltimore and was honestly so impressed. The Mediterranean Syrian menu was amazing. Everything tasted fresh, flavorful, and really well made. The space itself was beautiful and created such a warm, welcoming atmosphere. It felt like the perfect setting for the event. What stood out most was the service. We were about 60 people and everything ran so smoothly. All the food came out at the same time, everyone got their meals without any delays, and every single dish was delicious. There were zero issues the entire night, which is rare for a group that size. I would definitely recommend Ammoora for events or even just a dinner. They really did everything right. read more

This restaurant is beautiful! And so is the food! We had had a hot day of walking and gawking so we ate fairly light at Ammoora. The main courses (especially the lamb dishes) sounded so tempting but we decided on a salad and soup and appetizers. It turned out this was more than filling. OKAY, already. We also got dessert. Don't judge me. The sultana salad was beautiful, "seasonal greens, arugula, radicchio, dried apricot, sultana raisin, pomegranate, dried green apple, cashews, apple cider & mustard vinaigrette." Every ingredient was in balance, and that dressing was amazing. We will try to duplicate it at home. The serving size was easily enough for a salad course for two people. Plus. The rest of our meal arrived at once. I had lentil soup and octopus. Wife had mousakhan chicken rolls. We shared. The lentil soup was pure lentil flavor. "Red lentil, roasted tomato, Ras Al Hanout spices, toasted cumin breadstick." It was really really good and reminded us how much we like lentils. That breadstick was not needed for the soup but came in handy with wife's labneh, which came with the chicken. That dish was great. "Braised sumac chicken, caramelized onions, saj bread rolls, sumac labneh dip." It filled the mouth with the essence of the spices. Not to degrade this dish by making a comparison, but you know how a taquito tastes good but is basically one note, one flavor? This dish evolved in your mouth as each seasoning hit the palate. It was not a taste so much as an experience. Which brings me to the octopus. BEST octopus I have ever tasted. And I am an old man that has tasted a lot. Tender, umami, heavenly. "Citrus and herb marinated Spanish octopus pan-seared, white bean and smoked paprika puree, sujuk meat crumb, sweet peas." The jus of bean and paprika and peas and (sorry whatever sujuk meat crumb is) was enough to lick the plate. So our order was sufficient to completely fill us up. No room whatsoever. We could leave happy. Then we ordered baklava to go. Got to have dessert. The baklava was a series of small cylinders and a larger one, each carrying flavors of honey and nuts (definitely pistachio, maybe hazelnuts) and butter and maybe hints of rose water (?) and..... luxury. Service was excellent. Several attentive staff made sure we had everything we needed. We have put Ammoora on our must visit list for our next trip to Baltimore. I had a recent disappointing dining experience here. This was obviously unexpected, as I have heard many great reviews and recommendations for Ammoora. We chose Ammoora to celebrate my mom's 65th birthday aware that we were going to spend some money, but also expecting a near perfect evening. I had made reservations earlier in the week with a comment for a special table to celebrate a special milestone birthday. We were unfortunately sat next to a family with a whining baby. We politely asked our waitress to be seated elsewhere, but the manager said the only option was the bar lounge. He also said the family should be leaving soon, but this was after we had sat through their appetizer course knowing they still had dinner and dessert to go. We were disappointed, and decided to stay put, but also noticed there were 2-3 unoccupied 4-top tables in the back we could have been offered. This was just one unfortunate moment of many. When our waitress took our order, we ordered a bottle of red wine for the table and requested our appetizers to be spaced out timing-wise. All of our 5 appetizers were brought at one time. Halfway through our appetizers, our waitress informed us the bottle of RED we chose was out, but she brought a ROSE instead insisting it was close to our original choice. Obviously not a proper substitution. The manager helped us again to choose another bottle in the middle of our appetizers. We finally had our wine AFTER we completed our appetizers (45 minutes after we placed our original request). The appetizers and our meals, especially the lamb shank, were all tasty - no faults with the food. We declined dessert, but the waitress thoughtfully brought out a small plate of pastry delights and a candle for my mom's birthday. This was nice, until I received our bill and saw we were charged $5 for this dessert that we did not ask for. Overall, we were very disappointed, especially with the amount of money we had to spend for a special occasion at a restaurant with an outstanding reputation only to have less than adequate ambience and service. read more

My husband and I went to Ammora for our anniversary dinner and it was just as wonderful as we hoped it would be. We appreciated the valet parking, arriving early, and were seated right away. The food was wonderful from appetizers to dessert, very delicious and the presentation gorgeous. Our servers were pleasant and attentive not at all overbearing. The only drawback was the noise from the bar area, where several groups were gathering before being seated, which made our conversation challenging. Some besties splurge on musicals, others on concerts. My best friend and I splurge on food. It's my bestie's birthday month and I thought it'd be fun to treat her to some incredible food from Ammoora. She has a Bmore food Instagram (@amandatheepicure) where she shared to her story about Ammoora making the NYT Best Restaurants' list. I immediately made a reservation and made plans to come up and see her for the weekend. I'm so happy we went, I totally see why it made the list. As an Arab American, I get really excited when I find good Arab food. The food here is divine. We decided to do things family style. We started with the hurrak isba'o, muhamara, and fresh pita. The hurrak isba'o was new to me and heavy on the tamarind. My friend loved all the different textures and flavor of it. I enjoyed the muhamara and how well it complimented the fresh pita. The star of the night was the mousakhan chicken rolls. I'm drooling writing about them. The sumac took this dish from 5 stars to a million. I adored this and would go back for this dish alone. Our entree was the braised lamb shank. When you combine all the rice, tomato, mushrooms, and lamb, you're in for a bite of heaven. To close our evening, we got the Dubai chocolate crunch bar (it's been trending all over social media so we had to try it). It was divine. The flavors reminded me of desserts I used to get in Tunisia visiting my aunt and grandmother. Everyone who worked here was incredibly kind. Our waitress was sweet and happy to share the best things on the menu. It's a pricier restaurant which makes sense being inside the Ritz-Carlton. I love the way they designed the place too. I dined here by accident on there day off but they were open due to a private event so they opened the dining room. The owner never even told us and was so so accommodating. This is the BEST authentic syrian restaurant in Baltimore without a doubt. I might get backlash for saying this, but idc, this place is BETTER than atlas group and lebanese tavern. The food, the location, and the people are top notch! oh and seem happy and not enslaved due to financial reasons. I met the fabulous owner Jay, the captain Aiman (got to take a fancy shot with him! thank you), the super exquisite, kind and gorgeous GM, and my server Deen, he was one of a kind! When I googled restaurants in Baltimore, this place popped up in my search. From the online pictures, the restaurant caught my eye. We booked a reservation. Upon arriving, the restaurant is part of the Ritz-Carton residences, and there's automatically valet parking that is also added to your bill. The inside, once inside, is of an intimate setting, low lights, etc, that set the tone. If the option of setting in the parlor/bar, dining room, or outside patio. All areas have their purpose! We ordered a cold and hot mezze, then ordered the chicken kabob and tenderloin dish. The food came out pretty fast, and the waitress was very helpful with the menu items and the such. I had such a great dining experience here for a group dinner. We had a large and indecisive group, and the service was patient and effective. Valet is $13 and convenient with the slim parking options. Parking on the street would certainly be more cost effective. The group dining menu is a semi prix fixe menu with plenty of options . Everything we had was tasty. The fattoush salad and hummus are winners for sure. While It was on the more expensive side, I enjoyed the experience overall and it was perfect for a celebratory dinner. On Friday, August 23rd, my husband surprised me with a birthday dinner at Ammorra. Unfortunately, our experience didn't live up to the beautiful atmosphere we encountered upon arrival. We were a few minutes late due to city events (a major concert nearby downtown and a baseball game), and my husband dropped our child and me off before parking. The ambiance was stunning and aesthetically pleasing, but our experience quickly soured. Upon checking in, I informed the hostess that we had a reservation and needed a high chair for our toddler. We were asked to wait a few minutes, which turned into being seated at a poorly lit table next to a storage closet and across from the kitchen--a makeshift seating area that felt like an afterthought. The high chair was not initially provided, and service was slow to offer basic necessities like water and table settings. When my husband arrived, he was surprised by our seating arrangement, and after checking, he found that the main dining area was not full. We realized we were placed in that location due to having a child, with the apparent assumption that our toddler would be disruptive. We requested to be moved, and while the waitstaff accommodated us, the original hostess never checked on us but did make several attempts to walk by and stare at our table. Throughout the evening, I observed that guests were treated differently, with some receiving warm greetings and others just a nod or smirk. After finally being moved to a better table, we were provided menus but discovered there was no children's menu. We ordered Kebab Antabli Skewers, Tarragon Lobster Tails, and Braised Lamb Shank, all of which were properly prepared. However, I was disappointed that we had to order adult-sized portions for our two-year-old, as the menu offered no suitable options. Additionally, there was no juice available for our child, though the bartender kindly made a sparkling drink for him, which he loved. Overall, while the food was delicious, the hospitality did not match the ambiance or price point of this establishment. There was no acknowledgment of my birthday, despite reservations and requested acknowledgments being made weeks in advance, and I felt discriminated against for having a child with us. I finally returned to Ammoora after almost a year since my first visit! The inside is just as gorgeous as ever. This time, we opted to sit at the bar since we wanted to get in on happy hour. It was a Sunday and their website does say they have happy hour Sunday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 5pm-7pm. However, we weren't given happy hour menus and the bartenders, when asked, said they weren't doing happy hour that day. I'm glad the diners next to us asked why their website said differently because after that, we were handed happy hour menus. Weird! Nonetheless, we got the muhamara dip, the grape leaves, and the chicken entree. We also each got a cocktail - my boyfriend got the date old fashioned and I got the kareef, a tomato gin based cocktail which sounded interesting to me. Overall, we were underwhelmed by the cocktails. The old fashioned was too sweet and the kareef was unbalanced. I feel like if you're going to pull off something like tomato gin it needs to be expertly complimented by the rest of the ingredients in the cocktail which this drink wasn't. The muhamara dip was yummy but I wasn't as blown away by it as I was the first time. That said, the grape leaves were absolutely delicious and still the best I've ever had. The chicken was perfectly cooked, flavorful and juicy over a delightful bed of saffron rice with yummy yogurt based dipping sauce. I'd still return and would love to explore more of the menu. Ok this is my second time going to Ammoora. The review is hard because I want to point out how differently in my opinion they treat black people versus white people. It's not everyone as some of the staff treated us amazing, but there were a few that need to be checked. Thankfully, I did when necessary. The restaurant itself was beautiful. It's a great space to have some amazing food. I will warn you, it's pricey but it's inside of the Ritz Carlton, so that was to be expected. If I received the same great service from everyone when I visited, this place would be a solid go to. I don't love the dessert selections but otherwise very very good. A year later, Ammoora still remains one of the top restaurants in Baltimore. The service is A+. The elegance of the restaurant will never cease to amaze me. We were greeted by the manager as we were seated and our waiter was very swift in taking our orders. We love sitting by the fountain! I got my classic Tiki in the Desert drink- still one of the best cocktails I've ever had. We shared a bunch of the appetizers and left with very full hearts and bellies. This restaurant is absolutely beautiful, I felt like I was NOT in Baltimore when the door opened. I took my breath away how nice it was and each step it got better and better. My good girlfriend and I booked a brunch reservation to see what the hype was about and let's say, it did NOT disappoint. Almost everything we had was absolutely amazing and our server GiGi was the absolute best! She gave us wonderful recommendations and we loved each thing we tried. IF I had one complaint it's the food temperature, nothing came out hot. Not one item was hot, not even the shrimp frittata, all of the dishes were lukewarm or room temperature. The French toast was a total miss, it had ice cream on it and It was never hot to begin with. I will say it did taste fine but hot French toast would have been so much better. Overall all I give it 9/10 ONLY for food temp. It was quite pricey as well but it was delicious so I let that slide also. Just next time Ammora, pleaseee serve me hot food. read more

My partner and I partook in the Valentine's Day "Silk Road Journey" fixed dining experience in which we shared a Darna Mezze Spread (Hummus, Baba Ghanouj, Huhamara, Beet Mutabal, and Olives), ordered the Octopus Hot Mezze, Beyti Sujuk Rolls Hot Mezze, and for the main ordered the Bronzino and Lamb Shank. And for dessert, we shared the Assorted Syrian Baklawa and Dubai Chocolate Crunch Bar. I would say my favorite dishes were the Darna Mezze Spread and Grilled Octopus. The hummus was rich in flavor and octopus cooked to perfection. The octopus was tender and charred served with a complimentary spread. The service was amazing in the beginning with the wait staff being attentive to making sure we got our drinks and food on time, but as the night went on and more guests came in, it became very difficult to flag down any wait staff. It did take us about 40-45 minutes to finally wave down our staff to get our check. The ambiance is perfect for a date night or group dinner. Great lighting and fixtures, and well decorated. Ammoora is a beautiful restaurant located close in the ritz Carlton in Baltimore. The service was amazing, very elegant and classy, you almost feel like you are transported to a different place when you walk in the doors. Ammoora has sporadic happy hour during the week and I tended to go during the time which I believe was a Sunday as I was in the mood for an old fashioned The bartender was friendly and the bar was beautiful and well stocked. I enjoy watching a bartender in their element as she was making my drink. I ordered the date old fashioned and this was amazing and STRONG please be prepared. This is such a beautiful spot! The decor at Ammoora is absolutely stunning. We came here to celebrate my friend's birthday and I must say, what a great selection! Everything we had was absolutely delicious! From the Harvest Salad (beets), to the vine leaves (a must try), the Batata Harra, and finally the Mediterranean Tenderloin. I definitely sampled a little of everything, however, my main dish was the Mediterranean Tenderloin. I was a tad disappointed with my dish as it didn't come out medium as requested, however, it was still very tasty. It probably would have been a divine dish had my Tenderloin been medium. The service was pretty good as well, but, our main entrees took a little while to come out. Overall, great first authentic a Mediterranean cuisine experience. read more

Worth the hype! Food: everything we had was delicious - as first timers, we wanted to try as many dishes as possible so we shared 5 apps, 2 entrees and 4 desserts among 4 people and it was the perfect amount of food. Absolutely beautiful restaurant with such great service. When you get there, you have the option of valet parking which is $13. There's also a coat check at the entrance. The intricate textiles and dim lighting set such a calming mood, not to mention the fountains spread throughout the restaurant. I ordered the short rib and my friend had the samke tajen (salmon) and we both cleared our plates. The stars of the night had to be the dessert! I had the baklava assortment and my friend tried the ashta bil asal. If you have a sweet tooth this will definitely satisfy that craving. It can get overwhelming sweet after a while so share these desserts! I will say this is a good place to share the meal with the people you're with because the portions are pretty shareable.
