Giving 3 stars due to decent hummus, good fries and my hubby enjoyed his meal. Also, the restaurant and the bathrooms were very clean. Whenever you watch a cooking competition show, one of the big things they talk about during judging is consistency. Well, that's where they have a problem. Hubby and I both ordered the same thing...#1 Gyros combo with Greek fries. If you've read my other reviews of Greek/Mediterranean restaurants, I always order a gyro on my first visit. Anyway, I got mine first...it was cool to the touch and my pita was hard & crunchy along the edges. Hubby's came a few minutes later and was warm with a soft, fresh pita. Also, I received the Greek fries, but hubby's had regular (he had ordered the same as me). It wasn't bad, but the gyro meat wasn't great, either. Hubby said he saw the spit in the back where they were cutting the gyro off, but my meat was definitely not freshly shaved off, it seemed like it had been sitting in a pan for a while. And, the tzatziki sauce was overly seasoned with dill, you couldn't taste the cucumber flavor that's so refreshing in a good sauce. Needless to say, I was disappointed. Oh well, our search continues. So far, we've only found one Greek restaurant in the West Valley that makes the perfect gyro...and, we'll continue to go there for our gyro fix. But, we're still looking for another one. read more

Great value for the buck. Amazing lunch special 7.99 with soup ( either pea soup or potato chicken) I tried both and were a bit bland but overall good after adding some pepper and salt. The meal then comes with decent portion of chicken, gyro meat and one other meat I can't remember the name and a side Greek salad which consisted mostly of Romain lettuce- the meal came with a side of tzaziki sauce and a mayo dip( completely unappetizing). For the price is great but overall nothing too exciting to rave about. Another thing to note the restaurant is clean, service is friendly however, slow. My lunch was over an hour because it took about 15 - 20 min to get our soup then another 10 to get our meal it was about 11 am and not exceptionally busy. read more

Had to take a friend to a therapy session and just looked for a restaurant close by. Hadn't had a gyros in a long time. Very excellent food, delicious gyros and fries. Clean tables, kitchen and bathroom. The cashier had a Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah t-shirt on and was very pleasant. If I lived closer I would be going here much more. read more

I ordered the supreme Shish kabob and they didn't give me the onions and the tomatoes as per the menu and when I tried to call right away and let them know they kept hanging up on me?!! We're frequent visitors to AZ from Chicago and were looking for something different other than fast food we normally have. For reference, we have a Mediterranean place near our home that we frequent often. So we figured we'll try this place. Ordered a chicken shawarma, Greek salad, and falafel. Greek salad and falafel were decent. Chicken shawarma was not. I would give this place more stars, except for the fact that the man behind the counter was not wearing as mask (had it hanging from his ear) and was handling money/credit cards and cooking orders without changing his gloves. I am so disappointed in this place to the point that I am going to call the Phoenix health inspector and I will be reporting him to the better business bureau and who ever else I can find. I will make sure the world knows how bad this establishment is. I spend about 150-200 a month here. I have to the receipts to prove. I literally used to rave about this place to everyone up until today when I was given not only the nastiest food? But the service to match it. I ordered via Uber eats and the amazing and courteous driver brought me my food. I open my food and the entire order was wrong. My chicken shawarmas that I ordered ever other day were incorrect the Greek salad that I've ordered a million times before wasn't Greek and my greek fries looked like slop. Because this wasn't Uber's fault I decided to just drive down the street to have them correct my order. I was hungry and just wanted the right order. As I come in the manager comes out and I let him know if he can fix my order since it is incorrect. He immediately opens my entire order with his bare hands tells me he followed the instructions which he did not there were onions in my gyros and there were clearly onions in my gyros he says he doesn't see the onions when I point them out he picks them up and throws them in the garbage and gives me back my food that he touched with his bare hands ... also my salad was incorrect and my fries were a sloppy mess he tells me he doesn't see it. I tell him to please remake my order and he only makes half of it and tells me he doesn't need my business and that maybe I shouldn't eat here anymore ... wow what a way to treat a customer who always orders from you. When I raised my voice due to his insult he tells me to be quiet because there are customers eating I tell him I am the customer!!!!! With an attitude he puts my food back in the bag and tells me that he never makes the food wrong ... what a jerk! He treated me like I was beneath him. I left and check this out a customer sitting down on my way out goes ewww there is hair in my food.... Immediately threw my food away that he and his staff prepared with bare hands that had touched a phone and cash register. I should have asked for a refund but I didn't ... it wasn't worth it. When I done with this review I will be consulting my lawyer. read more

We love getting our take out Meditteranean at Ammos. The owner is so nice and the food is great. Better than many of the local chains.

Ammos Mediterranean Grill is amazing! The food here was amazing and flavorful with all the authentic Greek dishes and sauces. I ordered a gyros meal and it was delicious! For my first time trying Greek food, i an very impressed. The service was okay, so I have no complaints. My only word of advice for newcomers is that all the meals are much bigger than you expect as the menu doesn't really properly size up the meals. All in all, 10/10, would come again, and delicious! Tip: If you have some free time, ask the owner about himself and his family, I think you'll find yourself captivated by what he has to say. read more

My Syrian friend recommended this place so I had to try it. She's very picky and said that it was the closest to the real thing back home. I didn't believe her, but she's tried numerous places in the United States so it meant something. I came to try the beef shawarma to compare it to back home and it was the closest thing in the states. I was surprised, naturally it wasn't the same but at least it was close. I then had the osmalia and ballourie, the osmalia is excellent and my friend loves the ballourie. Make sure you leave room for dessert because I actually enjoyed it more than back home! Haha how dare I say that. It's not made the same, but it's extremely delicious nevertheless. The place itself was decorated nicely, and was very clean. So were the bathrooms. The staff was great, fast, hot (haha) and efficient so our food was not cold. The plate sizes were large and decently priced. Overall it was a good experience. read more

Solid 3.5 during opening week. Definitely worth a visit. It's a casual, counter service place serving Mediterranean dishes. Several tables for eating in. Drinks are self-serve. The people behind the counter (possibly the owners?) were all very friendly and pleasant. I immediately loved walking in and seeing the towers of meat on the vertical broilers! :) Menu has a lot of variety and even a kids' section. I went during a fairly busy time and ordered a couple of plates to go. It was a 20-25 minute wait, but at this point, I will put that up to being a busy time and working out opening-week kinks. They did forget one side item from my order, but were very apologetic and brought it out to me quickly...again, it was busy and stuff happens. Not counting that against them this time. We sampled the kefta, pork souvlaki, and chicken shawarma. They were all very tasty, though the pork was a bit dry. We liked the shawarma best. Fragrant rice was good. Side salad okay. Their sauce was right on! So good. It was nice and garlicky, tasted of yogurt, and not mayonnaisey or sweet like some other places. Decent fries. I can see my family becoming regulars here. Next time we'll eat in and check out the gyros. Very glad to see a place like this in the neighborhood! read more

The family popped in for a mid-afternoon lunch on a weekday - ordered a falafel pita and a beef shwarma pita, both with fries. The falafel wasn't my favorite, could have been seasoned better, a little dry, but most falafel are on the drier side. I just preferred the few bites I had of the shwarma. If I'd just ordered the shwarma, I think they'd get 4 stars. The fries were good. That falafel just didn't pop like other ones have. I should try Ammos again, give them another chance. read more

We've lived across the street for years but never tried this place before. We were missing out! Came here for two lunches and tried the Gyro combo (gyro, fries, drink) and the Gyro plates (regular and chicken). We have also feasted on the baklava. I think the Gyro plate is a better deal, though a little more expensive as it comes with a salad and rice. That, and I like making my own little gyros with the pita. However both the Gyro combo and plate are massive amounts of food and both are delicious. The baklava is also delicious! On both visits the staff were very helpful and service was super quick. I always get a chicken gyro and it is always good. No complaints on the food. Also it doesn't hurt that a few of the guys preparing the food are easy on the eyes. I would suggest not to place an order over any electronic means. The older gentleman (I'm assuming is the owner) is not very tech savvy and will deny you've put in an order and get upset with you when you show him the confirmation on your phone. Luckily I did not pay in advance that day and just left to get food elsewhere. But anyway, the food is still delicious. I plan to try more items there. I would echo the increasing recent reviews about the bad/rude customer treatment by the owner, especially if the customer is of color. We have been getting food at this place, almost on a bi-monthly basis, for over 7 years now, and tried to support it more during the entire pandemic. This is despite their continued practices of decreasing food quantity/order and raising prices. The food is still good overall, but definitely not close to the quality we used to get there just a couple of years ago, and even our kids noticed that and stopped liking their food lately. The growing problem is the owner, who has become extremely grumpy and flat-out rude. Last week, I invited a new buddy from work for a quick lunch over there, and the place was almost empty. After we got our food, we discovered that my friend got beef kebab plate instead of the Chicken Shawarma one that he actually ordered. When I just talked to the owner, who was the cashier also, he argued that my friend ordered the beef plate. I explained to him the fact that my friend cannot eat beef, and he specifically ordered chicken. He even repeated his order to the owner twice, because he noticed the owner seemed to be hearing impaired. So, to avoid upsetting my friend, I just ordered and payed for an additional order of chicken Shawarma plate. Then after I payed, the owner went on a loud rant about how we made the mistake all along, originally ordering beef instead of chicken, and how he's quite tolerant of us. The cook in the back felt quite bad, and he was very nice an apologetic for the rudeness of his boss. Again, I didn't want to make a scene with my work friend around, and we both just ignored the owner's rude and loud remarks how we cannot even decide on our food choices from a simple menu. The owner completely ruined our lunch meeting and meal, even with the excellent weather outside, plus paying for an extra entrée that we've never ordered. Therefore, we'll never go back to this local place again nor order from them again, with regret for all our support for them over the past two years. read more

Not sure why everybody is raving about this place. I found it to be average at best. Gyros meat was way too salty, tzatziki was tasteless and 2 slices of paper thin tomatoes on sandwich. I enjoy eating here, as the food is great.. However the place is in need of a thorough deep cleaning.. there is dust everywhere. Ceiling tiles, fans, light fixtures, TV's, etc is caked with dirt / dust. Makes me nervous what the back looks like. This review is based on customer service I experienced with a lady whom I've never seen, I'm a regular here for the last 2 years. She was extremely rude speaking in Greek with fellow worker only because I asked her not to put sauce on gyro sandwich explaining would get soggy by the time to arrive home, well she through a tantrum and slamming my order around, I right away told her not to continue and let cook handle my order, let her know unacceptable behavior. After spending almost $90 to have to deal with this kind of behavior, will take my $ elsewhere. A minute later a customer walks in, she bent over backwards for his 1 item order to even short charge him, was disgusting. Please dear owners don't hire people whom don't appreciate food, your clients or respect you upfront, those employees aren't worth of a job, will only damage all your hard years of investing into your business. We ordered $150 worth of lunch today for a couple of coworkers last day celebration. Our company has been sold and we are closing the offices. Our order was missing a few things and we called to have it refunded or redelivered. The angry disgruntled owner yelled at us and refused to make thing right. I love coming here... it seems to be my weekly fix. I generally get the chicken gyro with rice... but once accidentally ended up with fries (hey, if the nice guy behind the counter thinks I could use some fries, who am I to argue??) and they were really good. Had placed an order on Uber eats and the Tzatiki sauce was spoiled and what first gave it away the little plastic container it comes in looked like it was about to explode. Called the owner and said, "hey this batch wasn't so good. When we order from you it's usually pretty good.' The interrupted me and said, 'NO, I taste them right now and looking at them right now. They last all week and we freeze them and they still last.' I was just letting him know this batch specifically tasted as if it was left out, he kept repeating himself and wouldn't listen to me. Our go to Mediterranean takeout spot in the northwest valley! Their food is great and always had good service. I highly recommend.

First time coming to this place , the owner was the cashier / waiter, he was super nice , I came with a military member and he took care of us (he was a military member a few years back ) , gave us discount , gave us free desert , food here is fresh and delicious ! I wish I live closer to this place so I would come more often . The restaurant is very clean , has lots of selections and you get a big portion without paying too much .
