I was a little hesitant to try this restaurant. Why? Well, when I called on a Saturday evening to find out the closing hour, I was told they'd be closing about an hour earlier than their scheduled time, "because it's kind of slow tonight". This is one of my pet peeves with a business. Suppose someone drove a long distance to dine there, only to find they'd closed early because it was slow! I feel it shows a lack of consideration for the patrons. But, after eating here, I decided it was doubtful that anyone would drive a long way for a meal at Amor Indio. I tried to keep an open mind during my first visit. When we walked in, we realized that he woman on the phone wasn't kidding! There was one couple just finishing up their dinner as we walked in. Otherwise, the restaurant was empty, except for the staff. And, there was well over an hour to go before the "earlier" We were greeted warmly by a white haired gentlemen. He seated us, and our waiter arrived quickly to begin serving us. He brought us a basket of chips and a bowl of salsa, which were delicious! Unfortunately, this was the only food item I enjoyed. I ordered crab enchiladas, which came with refried beans and rice, all on one plate. I had inadvertently left my eyeglasses at home, and I found myself asking my date which food I was eating. The food was so bland, everything tasted the same! I did come across some fresh, sliced avocado on the plate. That was sublime. Unfortunately, it was gone way too soon. My taste buds were so bored by this plate, that I didn't finish the meal. The waiter didn't even ask if I wanted to take it home. To be honest, I didn't anyway. The boyfriend ate all of his beef tacos, but I noticed he left the rice and beans on his plate. He didn't say it was bad, but he's usually a member of the "clean plate club". I was still hungry, so after eating more chips and salsa, I decided to try their flan for dessert. My dining companion said he does not love flan, so we asked if there were any other desserts available. I would have been willing to split some homemade churros or fried ice cream with him. But, nope. So, I ordered the flan just for myself. Now, I'm here to tell you, I've had flan all over the place, and I usually love it. Yipes! This was scary! It looked it came from a can, and actually had the consistency of a canned peach. Slimy. The taste was not good enough to overcome the consistency, either. One positive note: if you like a strong margarita, you'll probably enjoy the one they serve here. It was so strong for my taste, that I had to keep adding ice and waiting for the ice to dissolve so the drink was more diluted. Once I was nearly finished eating, I was able to drink the cocktail. My search continues for a decent Mexican restaurant in the Industry/Whittier/Hacienda Heights area. Amor Indio was not it. I'm open to suggestions! read more

Don't let the outside or inside fool you, just sit down and order. Walking into Amor Indio always makes me feel so young as I'm transported back to the 70s! The food is amazing! My favorite is the Chile Verde Burrito smothered in green sauce. I always ask them to hold it in the oven extra long so the sauce and cheese are so hot, I can barely begin to dig in! The chips are fresh and excellent and the salsa is beyond amazing. It tastes as if I made it myself. Best restaurant salsa I've ever tasted. I have no issues with the service as others have mentioned. It's important to remember to not always expect a greeting yourself, but to greet and thank the hard-working employees too. Bet it will change the service you get, especially if you like the food and intend on becoming a regular. Amor indio is an amazing Mexican food restaurant! I always look for mom and pop spots because they keep the food authentic! Their salsa is super delicious! Their hard shell tacos are super delish the beef is so juicy they put a lot of cheese and if you top it with their salsa ughhhhh to die for simply amazing! Their enchiladas plate is also delicious! This place reminds me of a wealthy hispanic grandma's house. Chandelier lamps,red rug. Lights flickered during dinner making the place look haunted lol. BUT the food was pretty darn good. I got myself the Burrito loco which I split with my child because that thing was huge! And we also got a pint of margarita that was according to my amazingly critical husband "pretty good", a "balanced margarita" . The service was good too. I felt like I was being served by a butler. I took off one star though because the only salsa they had was chip salsa and we got a cold Serrano pepper instead for our food to make it extra spicy. #mexicanproblems read more

Came stumbling in looking for some refuge from the flu with a hot tea and walked into what I felt was one of those Mexican restaurants I grew up during the 80s. I was greeted by a pleasant older gentleman who said they had no tea, and walked out rather disappointed, but realized a good ol caldo would be just what my mother would've given me. So I went back in and ordered a bowl of albondigas to go for the long road home. I opened my soup container while on the 60 and immediately my car was filled with a sense of nostalgia from the delicious aroma of this yummy caldo. Went there to have lunch and a drink with a friend. I ordered the Sangria but for some reason it taste like fruit juices that have gone really bad. I usually don't complain if I don't like the way something taste but it was unbearable and I couldn't drink it. I mentioned it to the waiter and asked if I could have something else instead ( I was polite as could be). Next thing, the bar tender (the older man) came up to me and told me in a loud and rude tone "I've been making this drink for years here and if you don't like it, it's because you have a bad taste" I was so embarrassed but I apologized for offending him anyway even though I was the one who was offended. I wanted to leave ASAP but I didn't want to make a scene in front of my friend. I truly regret not getting up and leaving. My friend would have understood. I have been here 3 times however I have been to the original (Carambas) in Alhambra about a million. I go here because the food is exactly the same as the Alhambra one and about half the distance. If you go here you will not be disappointed I can honestly say this place HAS the best chips & salsa bar none! I'll take the freakin' "Pepsi challenge" that this salsa owns all! I pick up take out orders for parties & kick backs at my house its that good. The prices are not bad at all either. I usually always get the taquitos with rice & beans. If you love sour cream & guacamole as much as I do then you've hit the jack pot. They give generous portions of it with the taquitos. I also like the burrito especial & the abondigas soup. I noticed some people on here seem to point out the bathroom or decor of this place. Seriously?! c'mon people this is a hole-in-the-wall secret restaurant. You go here for the food not for the type of hand-soap they have, go pee & poop at Target before you come to eat here if you don't like it. The only thing I do not like about this place is refills on soda cost 50 cents but I can live with that. Also if its like Alhambra, they don't split the check so if u r coming with a big group bring exact change. I am very disappointed in this place. I frequent here because I like the chips and salsa and it is close to the church. I have been trying to book my wedding rehearsal dinner here for about 3 months now and every time I try they tell me to come back or call during the week before 4:30pm because I need to book witht the owner. Finally today I get through and the lady that answered didnt understand what a rehearsal dinner was so passed me on to someone else who then tells me to hold. I asked to speak with a manager and he said he was in a meeting. Then puts me on hold again and then comes back and tells me that thursday night is already booked? for the next two weeks! really?? I been going in there and calling for 3 months and nobody has called me back and now you are gonna tell me that it is booked! You know I didnt want your place because of the food (because it is not that good) but only for the mere fact that the location is convenient from the church! Too bad you would have made decent money off of my party. Since your restaurant is always empty! Have common courtesy for your customers. I would have been looking elsewhere but didnt think it would have been a problem. thats my bad! I will be sure to let people know that your customer service is unreliable!! read more
