Wow! What a hidden gem in the SGV!…read more Both of my parents are from the Caribbean, so finding a local spot that truly gets Caribbean food right is a real treat. My mom ordered the oxtail, and my dad had the curry chicken. They both agreed it was the closest they've had to authentic, home-cooked Caribbean food since leaving home. I also took home a Jamaican beef patty and a chicken patty, and I tried them the next day. They were absolutely delicious! The service was excellent, and the staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. The restaurant is located in a unique food hall featuring cuisines from around the world, creating a lively, social atmosphere with plenty of energy while still being a comfortable place to enjoy a meal. If you're looking for authentic Caribbean food in the San Gabriel Valley, I highly recommend giving this place a try. You won't be disappointed!

My wife and I were craving for Jamaican patties which we haven't had for a while. A search on Yelp brought us here. It's a humble food stall with just a few decor in the food hall but wow. The patties are packed with flavor and complexity. It's spiced, crumbly, and well textured. It's literally mouth watering thinking about it. We enjoyed it so much we came back the next day to have more and buy some to take home too. Trust me. It's worth trying.

Bold flavors with a spicy kick. I don't get to experience Jamaican food often, so I am so happy…read moreHilltop Jamaica Restaurant in Pomona is near me so I can go all the time now! They came highly recommended by a friend and I can see why in my first bite! I have had the pleasure to try their Curry Chicken Bowl $13 (Lunch Special), Jerk Bowl $13 (Lunch Special), Jerk Burrito $13.50, and a Curry Chicken "Mama's Pattie" $4.50. My favorites have got to be their Curry Chicken Bowl and I'll order this time and time again. Its just a staple. It has a great kick to it and has a complex blend of spices that is layed with a smoky, savory, and sweet undertone. I keep taking bites just to experience the flavors over and over again. Their Jerk Burrito is also the first I've tried and another dish I'd order again. It has their spicy, smoky Jamaican jerk chicken with rice, beans, wraped in a tortilla and everything comes together nicely. Their prices are great for their portion size, too! I've visited here with a group of coworkers and friends, and we always have a great time. I've even brought dishes home to my fiancé, and he has asked me ever over and over again to bring more dishes home for him if I'm in the area, since they are just that good! The people here are all so friendly and have such a warm light they bring to the world and their space. Ever since I've visited, I've been going every week and have been telling all my friends it's a must-try destination on 2nd street. I can't wait to go back. I am a loyal customer now!

Chicken was soooo tender and had a smoky flavor to it. The cabbage was seasoned well and rice was cooked perfectly. Mac and cheese plate was super weak in my opinion - I was expecting the Mac and cheese you get at a back yard bbq. Lacked in cheese and flavor. Some edges had a nice cheese pull but for the most part it was just a lot of noodle. Would have loved to enjoy it with the short ribs per their advertisement - but they had ran out so we got some crispy wings. Portion is big - not sure on the how much it was though, as the menu wasn't priced. I would advise to pair your meal with one of their house-made specialty juices if you don't get a ginger beer! I had their pineapple-ginger, a Jamaican staple and goes so well with their cuisine. oh. GET THE PATTY. If all else fails, get the damn Jamaican patty. Beef and curry chicken are my favs. All of the patties are crispy, Flaky, and buttery. I was pleasantly surprised to know that these are the same patties served to you at none other than Simply Wholesome, in LA. A grand staple for the community. Savanna, helped us out for the evening and she was lovely and helpful! Would come back just for the customer service itself.

After craving Jamaican food for what feels like forever, I finally decided to search Yelp on my way…read morehome from working in LA and came across The Taste of the Caribbean in Long Beach - and wow, this hit the spot in a way I've been missing for too long. For context, I've always loved Jamaican food and even have family who make incredible, authentic dishes, but I haven't had anything close to that in a year. So my expectations? High. My craving? Even higher. I ordered the jerk chicken dinner with peas & rice and cabbage medley, and some plantains - to go. First off, the service was amazing. The woman who helped me was genuinely warm and welcoming, and you can tell she cares about what she's serving. When I ordered, she asked if I wanted the jerk sauce on the side and made sure I was okay with the spice level when I said no. That attention to detail matters. The food came out quickly (it was mid-afternoon and not busy), and everything stayed warm all the way home--which is always a win for takeout. Now let's talk about the food: The portion was generous, the flavors were on point, and everything tasted fresh. The jerk chicken had that perfect smoky, spicy kick - exactly what I was hoping for. The rice and peas and cabbage medley were a great balance to the heat, and the plantains were sweet and perfectly cooked. I did notice another review complaining about the spice level being too high... and honestly, I had to laugh a little. Have you had jerk chicken before? It's supposed to be spicy - that's the whole point. Personally, that comment is part of what made me choose this place, and it delivered. If you don't like spice, jerk might not be your thing - but I'm sure there are milder options if you ask. Bonus: they offer online ordering and delivery through Uber Eats and Postmates, which makes it even easier to get your fix. Overall, this place brought back the flavors I've been missing for so long. I'll absolutely be back - and probably sooner rather than later.

Taste of the Caribbean really understood the assignment!…read more I ordered the steamed fish, and I have to give the chef his credit. I explained exactly how I wanted it prepared, including all my little requests, and he delivered exactly what I asked for. The fish was seasoned just right, flavorful, and cooked beautifully. You can tell when a chef actually listens to the customer and this one did! The ackee and saltfish was another favorite. Well-seasoned, packed with flavor, and cooked just the way it should be. Add some rice and those sweet fried plantains, and that plate was definitely giving authentic Caribbean comfort food. If I'm not mistaken, I've tried almost everything on their menu, and I've never been disappointed not even once. I also loved the atmosphere. There's something about the music, the décor, the warmth, and the overall Caribbean feel of the place that makes you want to sit back, relax, and enjoy your meal. It has that laid-back island energy that you don't have to force it's just there. If you're looking for good Caribbean food, generous flavor, and a vibe that feels warm and familiar, Taste of the Caribbean is definitely worth checking out.

The atmosphere is usually chill, which is another reason I enjoyed coming here so often. The food is genuinely delicious. I've had the salmon, and I'm a big fan of the wings and the juices. I used to come here regularly, and I liked the place enough that I even chose them to cater an event for my job. I gave them a specific headcount and explained how much food we would need. They assured me that everything would be taken care of, so I trusted them and put a lot of hype behind the restaurant. Unfortunately, the catering experience was a major disappointment. Not only was our order late, but there was barely enough food for everyone. After being clear about the number of people attending and trusting their team to properly prepare for the event, it felt like they completely dropped the ball. I had recommended and hyped up this place, only for the experience to be subpar and for several things to go wrong. It honestly felt like they played in my face, especially after assuring me that everything was handled. I would have given this place five stars based on the food and my previous experiences, but that catering situation left such a sour taste in my mouth that I haven't returned in quite some time. Loyalty should mean something, and it's difficult to continue supporting a business when you don't feel respected or valued as a customer. The food is still delicious, and I truly enjoyed this place for a long time. But after that experience, I don't think I'll be coming back. I'm sorry, because I really wanted to continue supporting them.
