Service was horrible - waitress didn't listen, was on her phone, forgot to put in drink orders, etc. Food was sad. Ordered the jerk chicken tacos which were flavorless. Salsas were lacking in freshness, tasted like they came from jars. Family ordered fried seafood tacos and said it tasted like it was frozen. Stopped by to get a late night dinner. There were a good amount of people in the restaurant. After being seated, it took awhile for the waitress to come to our table. I also noticed that our candle was out and they didn't light it or switch it out for a candle that was burning, like I observed on other tables. I didn't get a drink but the drinks on the drink menu sounded great. My entire party ordered birria tortas. The order comes with: short rib birria, avocado, red onion, cilantro, chihuahua cheese, consome, and adobo fries. The fries were amazing! They were nice, soft, and fluffy on the inside. They had a great seasoning on them. I loved the dipping sauce for them. The fries were probably my favorite part of the meal. The torta was pretty good. I liked that the bread wasn't hard and didn't have a lot of crunch or flakiness. I felt like the flavors of the torta and the consomé could have been more developed. I think adding another flavor profile to the torta would elevate it. I also think the consomé could have used more deep flavors and included more spices. read more

I went to Amor Loco to celebrate a friend's birthday and we had such a great time. We went for Sunday brunch and the vibes were amazing from the moment we walked in. For food, I ordered the carne asada tacos and we shared guacamole for the table. Everything was really delicious and perfect for a fun brunch with friends. The margaritas were also so good, refreshing and definitely part of what made the whole experience even more fun. They really know how to set a great mood in the restaurant, which makes it perfect for celebrations or group outings. Another thing I appreciated is that they didn't rush us out, which made it easy to relax, enjoy the food, and celebrate properly. The establishment is a bit narrow but at least they have two floors. both floors have fully stocked bars. We were upstairs in a little area near the windows (a little cold in winter). My experience was very disappointing. I ordered the birria tacos after the waiter recommended them over the salmon, and they were honestly the worst birria tacos I've ever had. The meat was dry, completely lacked seasoning, and had almost no flavor--they were basically inedible. The ambiance was fine but nothing memorable. The service was also frustrating. Every few minutes we were interrupted and pressured to place our order, which made the entire experience feel rushed instead of enjoyable. I didn't have a reservation and was okay with sitting at the bar around 5pm on a Friday. When we walked in, no one was at the door and we had to wait for someone to come back. Once they did, they told us there was a 15-30 minute wait for a table. I didn't have that kind of time, so I asked about sitting at the bar, which was very much a "sit wherever you find a seat" situation. We grabbed two small seats at the end of the bar, but the space was tight and the host asked me to move over. Not a big deal, but the other end of the bar had ample space. We eventually moved down there, and when my friend dragged the chair over, no one said anything or offered to help. The overall vibe from the hosts was very "do whatever you want," which felt a little off-putting. There was also confusion about whether you could order food at the bar. There were empty tables but still a wait... I don't know. The bartender, however, was a doll--quick, friendly, and didn't hover, so we could yap in peace. The hosts could've been more inviting and helpful. The happy hour nachos were pretty good, nice portion size, and you can actually finish the cute little skillet without feeling like a whale. The frozen margarita was also solid. My friends ordered the wings, empanadas, and chorizo mac and cheese balls and weren't very impressed with their choices. The nachos felt worth the price, but I'm not so sure about some of the other items. That said, they do have a decent selection of food and drinks for happy hour. We thought about leaving, but since we were seeing a show in the area, we didn't want to waste time and ended up staying. Wasn't bad but could have been more welcoming. read more

I came here on 3/7 evening right before my Broadway show and worse mistake I made. The waitress never even brought my tacos and when she finally came to my table to ask if we needed anything else my friends were dined eating and luckily shared with me. For some quick yet tasty and delicious Mexican fare, this place did not disappoint. Came in for dinner after watching a Broadway show and we were easily greeted and seated. The place is packed on a Friday night but not loud or pretentious. Their guacamole is very good but the chips could be crunchier. Their soda de tortilla is a must try, perfect for a cold night. The Swirl drink - a combo of frozen margarita and sangria is quite good. They were not shy about their tequila! For the main entree I tried their Tijuana Caesar salad with shrimp which was scrumptious, though I wished the shrimp was grilled. Queso fundido 8/10 - the queso was pretty plain and not very memorable Corn 8/10 - was very good but simply seasoned Grilled octopus tacos 10/10 - very delicious! This was our second dinner at Amor Loco - and while I remember the first on being decent yet not overly exciting, this one can only described as disappointing - mediocre & overprice. First, my explicit reservation of a low table was not honored. Second, we ordered a salad without avocado but with addition oof blackened, grilled shrimp. Specifically asked for the shrimp to get a nice char - only to receive avocado on top of the salad (consisting of only some shredded lettuce a couple of cherry tomatoes and fried pita strips), and shrimp that were so blonde that they verged at being undercooked - at a hefty price tag of $26. Third, a waiter put his dirty gloves down my $18 Old Fashioned to take it away though it clearly wasn't empty yet - nor worth that price despite some smoke spectacle... Chorizo Mac & Cheese bites were ok, but I'd expected more kick from the chorizo. And similarly the carnitas tacos lacked any memorable flavor too, offering nothing more exciting than what you can get for half the price at Mexican take out spots all across the city. So the nachos & salsa were basically the only item we truly enjoyed. Really a shame as the place is in a great location and even offers some nice seating upstairs over looking the road. read more

But as we were leaving there was two seats in the corner of the bar by the entrance. What a great spot in the middle of Midtown. Always worried that places around Times Square are tourist traps but this was anything but that. We came in for a bottomless brunch and had all the margaritas we desired (so delicious and not watered down at all like other spots might do). The Birria Empanadas were a fun start to the meal. Walked in on a Sunday as we happen to be around the neighborhood and was craving Mexican. Upon entering, you can hear the Latin music playing complimented by chill vibes. We decided on the first floor even though the host brought us upstairs but it was dead. Our waiter Carlos (and later the bald man) both were great. I do agree with other reviews about the food being overpriced especially if there isn't anything special about it. I was thankful for Carlos taking our cold lava cake back in exchange for an actual hot lava cake at our request. Walk in off 46th Street to salsa music at Amor Loco. The restaurant consists of two floors with a long bar on the first floor and a steep staircase up to the second. I started with a paloma ($15). My champinones tacos ($17) weren't huge but they were fresh and tasty. They were filled with two types of salsa, corn, peppers, and yellow squash, and came with two types of salsa. My husband and I shared the queso fundido ($18) which was a very large portion of melty cheese with chips and bread. The vibe is intimate, with low lighting and candles on the table. For the table, we all shared "Crispy Chicken Taquitos" (lettuce, pico de gallo, sour cream, cotija cheese), "Amor Loco Wings" (chipotle mayo or buffalo sauce, shaved corn), and "Salsa & Chips". For entrees, I had the "Grilled Octopus Tacos" (chile marinated, cabbage, pepper aioli, pickles, onion, cilantro) while my wife had the "Chicken Mole Enchiladas" (chicken, mole poblano, queso fresco, sour cream, avocado, corn tortilla, cotija cheese, rice, beans). The fish tacos are crisp & taste well with the sauce that comes with it; The birria tacos are slightly on the oily side, but it's packed with flavors & really juicy. Cons: The food is on the pricier side, with an average cost of $20-$22/entree. On top of this, there's a mandatory 20% gratuity for parties of four or more, along with a 3% credit card surcharge. As a local, I probably wouldn't return because of the added fees, especially since there are plenty of comparable taco spots elsewhere. I've been here many times and it's a place I'll definitely keep coming back to. It's the go to spot for after work snacks. To drink i always order the swirl- frozen maragrita and sangria swirled together. 98% of the time it tastes delicious as usual but there a small 2% where the sangria can taste old. The food is yummy. I've tried everything from the Birria tacos, elote, fries, jerk chicken tacos, wings, etc. The food is consistently good and tasty. The servers are always quick and attentive and the food comes out fairly quickly even when it's packed. The restaurant has two floors and Fridays at about 7pm, they're both filled up.
