This is the old Roma Cafe. Same old restaurant and building. Private parking lot is located in the back of the restaurant. It's located next to a fire station, here in Eastern market. They must've been doing a fire exercise, as there were quite a few fire men and women all around, as well as a bunch of trucks. There is a small bar and eating area on the ground level. There's several separate dining areas, some additional space upstairs as well. The women's bathroom is on the second floor. Was here ages ago. It's been around for l a really long time. Ordered calamari, Roma 2 tossed salad with broiled chicken, scallopine limone, paglia & fieno Italian sausage sandwich, ravioli, gnocchi. They don't allow you to split a bill for parties of 5 or more. Makes it harder for work colleagues. :( Food was all decent. Our waiter was attentive.

Delicious and authentic Italian cuisine served in one of the oldest standing restaurants in Detroit! I love the history of this place and it's pretty cool that it's been there since 1890! We enjoyed cocktails and beers to start off the meal. The dirty martini was great. The bread basket came and the bread was served warm and included a few sesame breadsticks. The texture and fluffiness of the warm bread was great but I feel that it lacked flavor and could've used more salt or something. The baked cannelloni features veal and beef and it was incredible! The cannelloni noodles were cooked to perfection and the flavors were fantastic especially paired with the meat sauce and cheese baked on top. The dish came with a cup of soup, I chose minestrone which was also flavorful and good. Our server was very nice and although it got a little slower at the end, it was alright as i know she was working a lot of tables. The restaurant is comfortable and well decorated. The bathroom was cleaner than you'd expect a restaurant bathroom from 1890 to be (it's been updated since )

Amore da Roma is a cozy old school Italian restaurant in Eastern Market. The building, built in 1888, is filled with character and charm. The food is Italian American comfort food. There is nothing fancy, but the pasta is made in house, fills you up, and leaves you feeling satisfied. I ordered the Paglia & Fieno - house made Spinach and egg angel hair pasta with prosciutto, sweet peas, and Parmesan cream sauce. The pasta came with a cup of Minestrone. I thought it was delicious. I will return to have the Palia & Fieno again, as well as to try the other pastas on the menu.

Amore de Roma - Detroit Review (9.5/10) Amore de Roma is one of those rare Detroit institutions that feels as if time pauses the moment you walk through the door. Open since the 1800s, the restaurant carries its history in every detail - the warm glow of the dining room, the easy hospitality, the sense that generations have gathered here for meals that linger in memory. On this visit, the standouts were the eggplant parmesan and the garlic green beans. The eggplant was layered perfectly: tender without being mushy, well-seasoned, and covered in a sauce that struck the ideal balance between bright and hearty. The garlic green beans were a surprise favorite - crisp, flavorful, and seasoned in a way that elevated a simple side into something you want an entire bowl of. Service was friendly, unhurried, and true to the classic Detroit Italian spirit. You feel taken care of, not rushed. Overall, I'd give Amore de Roma a 9.5/10. It's the kind of place you're grateful still exists - historic, consistent, and deeply satisfying. I'll definitely be back.

Came here on a random Thursday night. Only one server and she was working her butt off- shoutout to Sara S. The ambiance is cozy and friendly which i feel that a lot of newer places lack. Outside of building is adorable. Food was very solid. Didn't care much for the minestrone soup, it was a bit harsh, but the orzo in it. Wish a side salad was an option instead of soup or vegetables. Overall, we all were content, especially considering how hard the staff were working. Restaurants like this are far and few between, I hope they stay afloat

Fast service and it was very fresh, though the sauce was a little bit sweet, which I wasn't expecting. We definitely would go back if I was in the area.

Its a very cozy restaurant with an old money ambiance. I had the pasta with prosciutto and peas ,the sauce was creamy and delicious. My husband had a veal with a side of meat spaghetti. We enjoyed our time and definitely will be back as the service was excellant too.

Stopped by this spot after finding it on Google while at Eastern Market, and I'm so glad I did. The service, food, and people were all fantastic. The place has a charming old-world vibe. I'll definitely be back!

    Calamari
    Kate R.

Had an excellent meal at Amore de Roma. Our server Stephen gave great recommendations and our water glasses were never empty! The best thing was the spaghetti sauce it was Devine. We started with the calamari - personally I prefer the rings of calamari vs strips but it still was good - and tossed salad which was very good. I had the perch which came with a side of spaghetti and honestly the side was my favorite thing! Everyone loved their food and it reheated great the next day for left overs. This place has classic flavors and great service. For dessert we got an espresso martini and cannoli which were excellent. All staff were very welcoming and friendly and the food all was very flavorful and fresh. The only complaints are that the parking lot is super dark so we'd have appreciated better lighting getting to and from our car since it's Detroit after all! And the decor and ambiance was pretty dated but that didn't take away any enjoyment from the meal! It fits the classic Italian restaurant vibe for sure.

Shrimp Alfredo with white sauce horrible
    De Saltino D.

I had the shrimp Alfredo which horrible. They put some some like lemon juice and it overpowered the Alfredo sauce, it was watery. Minestrone soup was pretty good. My wife had the seafood Alfredo with red sauce and that was good service was nice and they were quick but I won't be going back.

Here is the lay of the land: Check in at the little red table in the center of the outdoor courtyard if you want "full service". - which means eating and drinking at a table with wait staff. It is not seat yourself at the outdoor tables, like we originally thought. There is a nice sized bar indoors and seating at the bar is first come first served. We ordered several of the small plate "snacks" and I can tell you that the hummus is not to be missed. It is served with (homemade?) tortilla chips that are absolutely addictive. They have lots of choices for wine, beer, and cocktails. Towards the back entrance of the property, there is a drink truck where you can also order "walkaway" food and drinks. Not entirely sure where you sit with the food/drinks you order, as most of the seating seemed reserved for full service. Additionally, there is a photo booth for pics (long line) and Warda Patisserie is right next door and accessible through a garden walkway.

The inside restaurant area is also beautiful. We wanted to sit inside at the bar, so we waited for some seats to open up. If you want to sit outside, all you have to do is order at the bar and they'll serve your drinks in plastic cups for you to take outside. The rhubarb pie punch was so delicious I had to order it twice! Probably one of my favorite cocktails I've ever had. I also ordered the maurixio cattelan, which tasted like ginger ale. For a snack before dinner, we chose to get the burrata and it was so refreshing. The service was great and our bartender was super friendly! The logo with the little lamb is adorable. I bought one of their wine glasses with their logo on it too for just $10.

The theme was "Yes, Chef: An exploration of culinary icons through a cocktail lens." Each drink was inspired by or dedicated to a famous culinary icon, and you can read about each one in the index. We each ordered one drink from each section. From the Opening, I chose the Diaspora Club, which was so refreshing and delicious. Then from the Principals, I chose the Chingona, which was a little bit spicy and savory but still so refreshing. To Finish, I chose the Chocolatier Cosmo, which came with a tiny house-made salted dark chocolate. I loved all three cocktails I ordered, especially the chocolatier cosmo because it was perfectly sweet and went so well with the small piece of chocolate. For food, we started off with the crispy pork belly milk bread. For my entree, I ordered the miso butter gnocchi. It was kind of on the salty side but I still really liked it. The apple sofrito added a bit of sweetness to it. For dessert, we had to get the rhubarb coffee cake, which came with strawberry ice cream. Omg one of the best desserts I've ever had!! I never thought of combining cinnamon coffee cake with rhubarb or strawberry but it's perfect, and I might have to make something like that soon. Service was great and we were seated right away at 8pm on a Saturday despite not having a reservation. Food and drinks came out promptly and timed perfectly. We spent about 1.5 hours here and we never felt rushed.

Between the two of us we had the beet salad, burger and steak tartare. Burger was good, but not the best smash burger that I've had. Beet salad was fine, however the cream cheese was a bit overpowering against the orange oil. It was dying for some citrus. Steak tartare was a bit dry, meaning that a small dab of olive oil would have added to the richness and overall mouth feel. I did not really taste the egg although I did see a dab of yolk on the tartare. Needed a bit of salt also to enhance the taste Menu was small, but it did cover a cross section of French bistro dishes. All in all, I thought it was a bit overpriced. So I will have to consider returning for a full meal. I would come back for a burger and beer at the bar.
