My spouse and I came to Amore Sushi for dinner and had a wonderful time! The ambiance is fantastic. It's very calm and has beautiful decor. There are beautiful hanging paper lamps, and the seats are very comfortable. We didn't have a reservation, but I would recommend it. Since there were only 2 of us, they were luckily able to accommodate us, even on Friday night! The staff was very kind and helpful, and made wonderful suggestions. We were even greeted by the owner, and felt very welcome. I'd highly recommend the veggie gyoza and veggie lovers sushi roll especially. They were both very unique and delicious! Experience: Came across this gem while walking around the neighborhood. The owner was very friendly so we decided to give it a try. With a party of two during lunch hours on a Saturday, we were able to be seated and served right away. Parking: Believe it or not, there is FREE parking with this business. It's just behind the restaurant with a lot shared with numerous businesses. You just gotta walk a long inside hallway to get to the restaurant, which was fine with me. We had five rolls and our eyes were larger than our stomachs. Those rolls were: Spicy tuna Snow White Sugar daddy California Threesome maki The threesome was my favorite. Really loved our experience here! The restaurant was a little smaller than what I had anticipated but they accept reservations which was great. We started with the lychee cocktail and it was delicious. For appetizers we had the spicy tuna on crispy rice & vegetable gyoza (really appreciated they had a vegetable gyoza option as typical only a pork option is available). For dinner we had the Pompeii roll (with dry ice volcano), summer roll, and Florida maki roll. They were all great and a bit unique--the Florida maki roll was my favorite. We had mochi for desert, it was well presented. The owner was there the evening we went and was very friendly and interactive with the tables. We came for a date night because we love sushi and stumbled upon this place on Yelp. The miso soup was the best that I have had in the city of Chicago. Walking in Lakeview, this spot caught our eye with the great decor on the inside. It has a very instagrammable background where people could take fun and cute pictures. Saturday night. What to do? Husband and I were planning to go out with another couple and didn't really have a cuisine in mind, so of course I went to my bookmarks and decided to check out a place I've been wanting to visit. Amore sushi was the winner! We had called ahead to make sure they had availability since it was later in the evening and confirmed that they were still excepting walk-ins. We arrived at the restaurant and were seated immediately. We scanned the menu and just wanted to stick with sushi and couple of appetizers so we started with a bowl of Edamame and some really good Crispy Rice Spicy Tuna (highly recommended). For the sushi, we did few basic rolls; Spicy Tuna, Shrimp Tempura, California & Veggie roll. We also tried couple special ones including Snow White and the cool Pompeii. Rolls came out very fresh and delicious. The Pompeii roll had a special smoky flavor so it was interesting to try. I'm looking forward to return because I have no doubt that the rest of the menu will be just as good. During our visit we noticed the owner going around the few tables that were occupied (including ours) and introducing himself and just checking in with everyone, which I thought was nice to do (specially considering they are fairly new). The only observation I would bring up is the time it took to get our food and I don't want to highlight that as a deficiency considering they are a newer establishment and likely trying to get a handle on everything. Maybe they had a bad day? I should have gotten the clue when the server and a guest were arguing. They do not care to much for presentation. See the photos. The soup was not hot. The crab fried to ashes and the roll so skimpy. I feel like I got ripped off for the $ 25 lunch I paid excluding the $5 tip I left because I felt sorry for the server. He cannot communicate in English clearly . I professionally evaluate that daily. That is going to cost the owner a great loss of dine in business. We've been twice and ordered twice, so we've tried a lot and never been disappointed Some favorites (so far) are: - vegetable gyoza - so full of flavor and lots of different veggies - crispy rice spicy tuna - very spicy (I'm a mild spice person, my bf is a hot spice person and he said it wasn't spicy) but the crispy rice is so delicious. - spring rolls - the owners dad makes them every week, I love it - house salad - sounds boring, but the dressing is so good and the dried mushrooms add an amazing flavor - veggie monster roll - not a vegan but love a good veggie roll, and the veggie options here don't disappoint. I brought my vegetarian friend and she was so excited to have more than just a cucumber roll to choose from - summer roll - spicy but it's light and very fresh - no name roll - perfect texture and just the right amount of spice - threesome maki - pretty spicy, but I also couldn't stop eating it - hotate - a dine in only option, but we had this as our last bite one time and oh my God it melted in your mouth and was just insanely delicious. - caramel flan - I'm not usually a flan person but we wanted to try it and I'm so glad we did. We've been going here at least weekly since they opened. We've done dine-in and pickup, and we've sat indoors, at the counter, and outside. We've tried most of the menu as well, and still have yet to find anything to fault. The owners and workers are the greatest and always incredibly kind. I don't even really like sushi very much but the fish is so fresh here (or something) Also the seaweed salad is to die for. (Which I know that sounds weird) The service was pretty good overall , owner was engaged at points.
