They have a handful of tables inside and a handful of tables on the outside patio as well. They do have beer. The sandwiches we had were all very good - you can get a small (6") or large (12"). I had a Greek salad that was very tasty, but no meat on it - didn't realize that when I ordered it. I would have preferred chicken, but still a good salad. The Cuban looked amazing. The person behind the counter helped me decide what to get, and I'm happy I followed their recommendations. No such thing as too much pickle, I got the pickle beer and chips! We got the Hot Pastrami and the Italian, I told the guy making the sandwiches to make them like - he likes them-...DONT SKIMP. This is my second time visiting here, and I figured out the perfect order! Once again staff was super friendly, and my food came out pretty quickly for only having one person on staff. It has a very laid back vibe with some cute cats that will visit you on the patio. I ordered the buffalo chicken salad which was packed with flavor, and the half sandwich is the perfect size for one person. The blue cheese makes this chicken salad sandwich really stand out. Went here with a friend for lunch the other day and was pleasantly surprised. It had popped up in some recommendations, but had never went to find it. It is located behind Avondale Common House, so it can be hard to spot if you aren't looking for it. They offer a variety of sandwiches, both cold and hot, as well as some bagels - the pizza bagels did look interesting - but I ultimately had to go with one of my favorite sandwiches, the meatball sub. I will say, a half sub will fill up most people, especially if you get chips with it, unless you are just REALLY hungry. They do not skimp on the size of their sandwiches. The meatball sub was good. The meatballs were flavorful, and the cheese was plentiful as well. My only nitpick would be that it could have used a tab more sauce - but again, that's a nitpick. My only warning is that if you're getting a drink, don't assume they have drink fountains like other restaurants. I ordered a water, but was not told that I had to get a bottled water. A heads up would have been nice. If I had known that, I would have ordered a soda instead. read more

I should have visited this place before this week. I've been missing out! I only ordered whole Italian sandwich to go. I did ask to substitute chipotle mayonnaise for the chipotleless mayo. That worked out nicely. The bread was how bread should be, fresh and toothsome. There were generous portions of cold cuts, fresh and flavorful toppings and a dill pickle slice that took pride in being more than "just" a dill pickle. The standout were the tomatoes. Going to whatever lengths that it takes to get REAL red ripe tomatoes in April in Alabama is impressive! Somebody is serious about their tomatoes. I'm sure getting those hard, mealy, pink, flavor free greenhouse tomatoes is unavoidable in December. We all know that there are times that it's not unavoidable in Birmingham AL and yet they still do! I think greenhouse fauxmatoes in an Alabama summer has got to be a sin. How it didn't make the Ten Commandments, I don't know. (Maybe it was number eleven?) We should pass an ordinance or something. While we're at it we should ban selling iced tea without the option of a slice of lemon punishable by law as well. Selling fries when you know you are out of ketchup as well. I'm going back to Ampersand because they recognize that what ingredients are does not matter as much as the quality of those ingredients is. Is that so hard? read more

Y'all, One of my customers told me about the restaurant and said I must give it a try. Well I am here and I ordered a club sandwich all the way. The bread was soft and the toppings on the sandwich was delicious. It's a small quaint restaurant with a good size parking lot. They also have outdoor seating right next to an event center so if you're sitting outside you can hear the music. It's a sweet peaceful place. This is a little sandwich place that make every sandwich to order. As we walk in, I see something that was not on the menu. A Meatball sub. SOLD. It reminded me of Growing up in Long Island NY and getting the same thing. My hopes was it was just close. The hardest part is the bread. They get their bread from a local baker, and it is very good. Then comes the meatballs. Really good and I was not expecting that. It takes real talent to make great Meatballs. Finally, the sauce known as Italian gravy. Great sauce however, very spicy and hot. Just like I like it. Some folks that don't like spicy will not like it. As I was ordering the Sandwich, I saw cookies. I want for it. Crispy and good. All in all, great place for informal dining.
