Salice is a great Italian spot in BHM. The interior has a bistro vibe and was bright and welcoming. The service was great, especially our waiter Cooper! We started with the fried mozzarella and meatballs with polenta. They were good! For mains, we went with the Campanelle and Rigatoni. The Campanelle was basically a creamy cacio e Pepe - VERY rich and heavy but so so good. The Rigatoni was nice, light, and delicious. Really enjoyed our meal at Salice and will be back! read more

TLDR: Come at happy hour and get the fries and half off wine and maybe split a pizza The fries are amazing and definitely worth the hype. However I think overall the dishes were too salty and too oily for my liking. The pasta was too salty and I could only have a couple of bites. The chef inspired pizza left me torn because the flavor was so delicious with a roasted eggplant base and vegetables but the oiliness of the pizza was difficult to ignore. Finally got to try LUCA after hearing recommendations for a while, and the food absolutely lived up to the hype. Every single thing we had tasted fresh, thoughtfully made, and packed with flavor. You can really tell they care about quality here, especially with the homemade pasta. The noodles had that perfect fresh texture that's hard to find, and the sauces were rich without being heavy. The focaccia came out warm with a beautifully crisp exterior and soft center, the whipped ricotta sweet potato dish was unexpectedly incredible, and the appetizers were just as strong as the entrées. Even the salad felt elevated with fresh parmesan piled high over crisp greens. Dessert was simple and refreshing and ended the meal perfectly. The only reason this is a 4/5 instead of a perfect score is the service. Unfortunately, our sangria was forgotten not once, not twice, but three separate times and didn't arrive until long after everyone else had their drinks. We were also dining on a lunch break with a party of four, and two of us ordered the three-course lunch menu. While our friends received their appetizers, ours never came. After waiting about 20 minutes, we finally flagged down our server, who admitted the order had never been put in. What should have been a smooth paced lunch turned into an hour and a half meal that made everyone late getting back to work. To make up for it, all three courses were brought out at once with no pacing between them, so we had to rush through the experience and box most of it to go. That said, the kitchen deserves serious praise because the food itself was genuinely excellent from start to finish. If the front-of-house experience matched the quality coming out of the kitchen, this would easily be a 5-star spot. read more

Food first, thoughts after... Immediately upon entering the parking lot, I noticed every single spot was taken. What a popular place! Now that I have tried it, I understand why. The food was delicious. With every bite my friends and I were amazed. We went from barely talking post work zombies to boasting food gurus. The spaghetti is not your traditional tomato sauce and that made me love it more. I got a glass of moscato and 2 orders of spaghetti (1 togo for my husband of course) ending with a total of upper $80 before tip. My husband and I stopped in for dinner on a Monday night. It wasn't busy, service was prompt and friendly. The ambiance is nice; literally the only bad thing I can say about the place is that it's a little dark for (ahem) eyes of a certain age. I can't resist an herbal gin cocktail, and the Violas in Verona didn't disappoint. We had the roasted beets and the burrata for apps. Both were phenomenal, but the focaccia served with the burrata was the star. Perfect texture and flavor, and it was nice and warm. I also was a bit let down because the sauce and filling were thin and not creamy at all. It kind of seemed like they cut corners to make the food go further. A good Italian restaurant is always a welcome addition to Birmingham. I ventured into Luca Lagotto after work for a drink and a quick bite to let traffic die down. I was greeted at the door by a friendly face. I sat at the bar since it was my "happy hour" and didn't have reservations. I opted for a Hugo Spritz and added St. Germaine. It was so good, light, and refreshing. It paired perfectly with my dinner. I asked the bartender for their recommendation between the Tortellini or Clam Pizza. He recommended the Clam Pizza Hear me out, you wouldn't think clams on pizza would be good, but it was the perfect combination of flavors! Unfortunately, I went back and they have taken it off the menu. I got the four cheese pizza on my next visit and it was good, too. Fresh cheeses and a perfect crispy crust. Luca was amazing, not only did I love the food but the atmosphere as well. I went to grab a cocktail with my friend and we fell in love with their signature "Luca Fries". The crisp, the cheese and the sauce all to die for!! I also ordered the Collard Green Caesar salad and even though this was a first I loved the extra "umph" the collard greens gave the salad. It added more flavor for sure! I also ordered the Campanelle which reminded me of a Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo. It gave that concept but the flavoring was slightly different. You could easily tell it had fresh ingredients. Last but certainly not least the staff was very accommodating and checked in on us very often! Here's my quick breakdown: Ambiance 5/5, Service 5/5, Food 4.5/5, and Drinks 5/5 We started out with a sangria and an old fashioned, both of which were delicious! For appetizers, we got the arancini and the fried mozzarella. The arancini are a MUST have, but the fried mozzarella were nothing special. My partner got the papardelle which has a unique flavor profile and is worth trying if you want something off the beaten path! It was still yummy! I was so shocked by how good this place was! I've heard mixed reviews so I wasn't sure. The Italian vibe, atmosphere, starters, food, cocktails, were all amazing! Now mind you- it is not as "authentic" Italian as Le Fresca downtown, but it is not as stuffy and pretentious either, which we loved. It was very casual and welcoming while still being extremely classy, beautiful, and charming. Our waitress was so kind and knowledgable with the entire menu! We had heard this place was "good" but whoever didn't think this place was great obviously ordered the wrong things!!!!! It was 10/10 for us. And we love going out to eat in Birmingham. Caesar salad was one of the best I've had in town- and I'm picky about a good Caesar. Crispy croutons were so good and freshly shaved parm covered it. Burrata was amazing. So yummy and different than other burrata we've had in town with a strawberry compote on top and high quality EVO. AND DONT EVEN GET ME STARTED ABOUT THE FOCACCIA. If this isn't freshly house-made I've completely gone mad... it is the best focaccia I've had in Birmingham. Tasted very authentic. I could eat the bread alone as the entire meal. Did not disappoint!!! Then the chefs meat + cheese board was SO much food and so good. Fresh meats and amazing cheeses, olives, apricots, little accompaniments... the list goes on. Great curated selection and a lot of food. Easily can feed 4 people grazing. I hate when a pricey cheese board is slim pickings.. this one was not. (It was also $32 which is very reasonable considering the amount of food). We shared a pasta dish and got the rigatoni - noodles were Al dente which we appreciated. Sauce wasn't anything special but the fennel sausage was super yummy. The sauce wasn't bland, it just wasn't the biggest standout and we could've gone without. We would order a different pasta next time, but it was still very decent. We will absolutely be back and our first impression was amazing -- between the atmosphere and food -- we really loved it! Hate we missed the affogato because we were so full, but I'm sure it's also great. Will definitely try next time. Worth a visit! read more

Their meatballs were sweet and savory, their fries were cooked and seasoned well with a tangy sauce, and the pasta dish was on point: rich, creamy, and nicely cooked. While we only had one cocktail, a Hugo Spritz, it was excellent (granted, they're hard to mess up). However, their Caesar salad was unbalanced, with olive oil overpowering the tang and umami. Service started off slow, but once our drink orders were in, the service picked up. With this in mind, Luca does earn an imperfect score from us for this visit; nonetheless, we can certainly recommend it. read more

Ambience looks nice- food was awful. Ordered Rigatoni $26 with red sauce and italian sausage, 2 meatballs on polenta $16 and focaccia $5. All entrees were overloaded with the red sauce and the foccacia was the best thing on the order, however an infused olive oil would have been nice and some parmesan. I did have a very nice glass of wine. Greco di tufo. Would have ordered the amatraciani, but by the ingredients alone knew it would be a pale comparison of Le Fresca's. Will not be back. Did find it funny that they have a tinned seafood entree. Time and time again, I am blown away by Luca. Have now been multiple times, but tonight was the cherry on top. We went in to celebrate a friend's birthday, and the service was above and beyond. One of our appetizers came out later than everything else, and they ended up not charging us for it. Luca Lagotto was fabulous. The hubs and I both had the Parmigiano. The chicken cutlet was perfect. Juicy, well cooked and crispy. It was served on focaccia, which was soft and warm with a smattering of rosemary on the top. The marinara was good and in just the right amount, the sandwich was not overly sauced and drippy. And the cheese.... omg. Our waiter, Jacob, was attentive and kind, frequently stopping to check on and offering stellar recommendations for dessert. The gelato and sorbets are delicious. The restaurant was quiet, but we came in shortly after opening to beat the lunch rush. It was clean with a touch of class but not stuffy or over done. We enjoyed the little market in the front. I enjoyed my visit to Luca Lagotto. I went here with some friends for lunch. We got there right when it opened, because we were not sure about the parking. When we got there, there was plenty of parking. But we noticed that it filled up fast as the crowd began to pour in. We were seated immediately. I ordered the pepperoni pizza. It was big and quite filling. I ended up having leftovers. The service was great. But it was a little slow. It took us a while to get our food. We also ended up ordering cannolis, which were very good and cappuccinos. The cappuccinos were great! They also had a shop where they sold a lot of items, as well as offering baked goods. The staff inside of the shop was friendly and they were very helpful. I did end up purchasing some items from the shop. The pricing was not bad and I felt that the items that I purchased were worth the price. Overall, I was happy with my visit and will come back again. read more
