Update: Thank you to the business owner Kyle, for reminding me that they also forgot our bread service! Totally forgot to include that. Another prime example of how the service was lacking that I forgot to mention. Thanks Kyle, included it here now! Even the business owner sees how the service needs to improve! Will never come back here again. For the restaurant being half empty, you would think service would be quick and efficient. Malik our server was only seen twice in the two hours we were there. Didn't get our drinks until we were halfway done with our entrees because the bar was "busy", but we were sitting right next to the not busy bar and again the restaurant was half empty. Just say you forgot our drinks. Beyond the horrible service, the food was sad and screaming for help. There's a reason this place only has 3 stars! The mussels were tiny previously frozen morsels and the sauce they were in was a flavorless tragedy. We ordered the lobster roll, which was dry, dry, DRY and the roll was old. 0/10 do not recommend, do not come here! I had a tough day at work and needed a pick-me-up. I've been wanting to try Ampersea for a while but hadn't made my way there. I figured what better time than the present right? The location was easy to find and there was available street parking. I was greeted immediately by the host. Since I was solo I sat at the bar. It was a Monday evening so was the only person at the bar. I ordered the Southwest Mushroom Wrap, that was really good. And I went with a Mocktail, the Chai Blossom Fizz. That was really tasty, if you wanted to add alcohol, it would go perfect with bourbon/whiskey. I want to come back when the weather is a bit warmer to enjoy their outdoor seating. read more

I went into this dinner expecting not to be that impressed given the lukewarm reviews but I came away wondering why the reviews weren't stellar! We had a fabulous dinner from start to finish. The cocktails were interesting and tasty, the appetizers were delicious and the main courses wowed. The dessert was also really enjoyable. To start we had the fried green tomatoes which were amazing. The brussels were also fabulous and not overdone or over sweet as they are at many places. For main courses we had the sea bass, risotto and duck. All delicious! And the bread pudding and cheesecake were a great way to end. All around fabulous meal, will definitely be back! read more

Yesterday was a little challenging so I decided to go out and eat on the water. I googled "outside restaurants " and came across Ampersea. It was only 15 minutes or so from where I live which was cool because I was hungry and trying to catch the weather before it got chilly. Upon arrival, the GPS puzzled me many times with finding the actual location. Its sort of hidden. Once I realized this, I paid for parking ( only about $5 for 2 hours), and I began my quest on foot to locate the restaurant. Once I arrived, I was greeted with a smile by the host. I asked for a table outside to enjoy the view and weather but it had already started to get a little chilly. I did manage to sit out there about 20 minutes before asking to go back inside. The ambiance was really really cozy and aesthetically pleasing both indoors and outside. The servers were all very attentive. I started with the gigantic pretzel and crab appetizer in which the server recommended I get the crab dip on the side in case I wanted to take it home if I didn't finish it. Great recommendation. I also had the seafood pasta which came out looking amazing! It was a tomato based pasta with 3 large shrimp, about 6 mussels and the menu read that it was another seafood but I didn't see or taste it. The pasta overall was just ok. It was a bit bland, just really fresh. I taste more of the tomato based than anything. For the price it was just ok. More pasta than anything. The pretzel was good. It wasnt dry nor was it chewy if that makes sense. The crab dip was OK too. It was heavy on the cream cheese.. a little crab. It was $20 which was cool. I don't drink so I had 1 club soda and 2 ginger beers. J have to say that the ginger beer and ambiance won the whole experience. I was fine with that since my goal was to just get out and feel better for the day :) food wasnt the main focus. I did take what I didn't eat to go, but I doubt I finish the pasta. All in all... Looking for a great date night spot? Well, look no further! I'm here to guide you! This place, located in the beautiful Fells Point area, sits by the Patapsco River so imagine what it looks like at nights-ROMANTIC! The hostess and our waiter, Oscar were both super friendly as were the entire staff. They actually made you feel like family and were very courteous, joyful, and quick with their service! I commend them for delivering quality service late Saturday night, thank you! As mentioned above, it was a late Saturday night and my date and I were interested in drinks and a solid appetizer because we had an earlier dinner and really wanted something to conclude the day. Recommended by a friend, we visited this restaurant for the first time and weren't disappointed at all. The service was worth it! Drinks: I ordered the spiced apple and my date ordered the old fashion. Both of our drinks were ON POINT! I must say that the bartender did their thing with the pour and still managed to deliver a sweet balance with the spiced apple drink. I thoroughly enjoyed the taste of sweet cinnamon sugar with each sip and after a few orders, realized that this drink is a creeper lol so drink responsibly. My date opted out for an old fashion and said that his drink was pretty good. Appetizers: Again, we do plan on revisiting for an early dinner so this review is strictly about the appetizers and drinks. We decided on two warm bowls of creamy crab soup (one pictured here) and a serving of oysters. The oysters weren't anything to brag about, but they were enjoyable, just not as much as the creamy crab soup. This crab soup stole the show on a chilly night and was loaded with large crab meat which were oh so flavorful! To sum it up, this was DELICIOUS and worth every drop! It was very filing and I actually couldn't finish my soup. Price: the prices aren't bad if you decide to visit for a date or time with friends. For an entree, some meals were priced under $50 and others were market price so they could range higher. Appetizers were all under $20 and then you had the option of handheld bites or salads. To conclude, we made plans to visit for dinner because we were informed that it's worth it. And, judging from the creamy crab soup and drinks, I have to agree and look forward to coming here again. Don't hesitate! Book your reservations and go enjoy! And, yes, to those wondering about outdoor dining on a chilly night, the restaurant provided large outdoor heaters throughout the tent but they do have beautiful indoor seating options. However, we were very disappointed in the service. They auto added 18% gratuity and asked for the manager to talk about the rate because the service didn't warrant 18%. You gotta try this pretzel bro. I'm not even playing, I dream about this pretzel and crab dip combo. If the perfect waterfront seating and tasteful modern arrangements isn't enough for you, just come for the pretzel - PLEASE. This honking homunculus of a pretzel paired with Maryland's speciality of crab has the potential to put Baltimore back into the food scene argument. The Bavarian pretzel was in a weight class of its own. It was a huge pretzel, but it did not sacrifice quality for quantity - it was quality through and through baby. The pretzel's exterior was perfected soft crusted and coarse salted while the interior remained balanced between chewy and dense. The crab dip accompanied along with the pretzel was just as great - the crab and cheese blend elevated the pretzel experience sky high. The individual food components alone were superb, but the sum of the pretzel and dip was next caliber. Ok besides pretzel I tried swordfish. I haven't had swordfish before but that the sandwich was good too. Nowhere near the spectacular craftsmanship of the pretzel and crab dip. To take it a step further, we got to meet the manager, Joey. He attended to us and ensured we had a fantastic night out. He took photos for us, showed us around the establishment, and made us feel like family. All of the service members were just as, if not more, welcoming to my girlfriend and I. Joey is one individual you need to meet when coming to Ampersea - he knows how to make a person feel welcome! In all respects, Ampersea nails all expectations you would have for a waterfront dining experience. I think if it was cheaper, I would say the food was good! They are pretty accommodating for changes/swapping out sides that come with their dishes. Ampersea was a beautiful first time visit! The views (pictured) alone are beautiful as well as the inside design and decor. It was challenging with reservations/seating on this particular brunch but it all worked out in the end. It took quite some time to be greeted and offered water, but once we were settled and situated everything was uphill from there. I loved the wings and chopped salad (both pictured) as my lunch option! Very filling and prepared well! A huge shoutout and thank you to Malik (server) and Kristen (hostess) for making this experience truly remarkable and memorable. Between the two of them I was smiling from ear to ear! I'm surprised to see not as many 5 stars for Ampersea because my experience was absolutely wonderful. We had a large birthday dinner during a busy Saturday night but the service was impeccable. No food mix ups, prompt service, great suggestions. The waiter was very helpful & funny. They even gave the birthday boy a slice of the chocolate mousse to make a wish & blow out a candle! I cannot wait to come back to sit in the gorgeous outdoor area. We tried so many of the items on the menu but the standout was the fried green tomatoes for me. The vegetable medley on top was divine. The drinks were delicious, most of us got the Ampersea 75 or the Vanilla Pear Martini- both stellar. The mocktails were yummy as well. I dined at Ampersea for their 5th anniversary celebration, where they were offering $5 bottles of wine. Unfortunately, it was not the wines offered on their menu, but their own selection. In addition, you can only choose from red, white and sparkling, but not a specific variety, such as a Pinot Noir. I chose sparkling and was served a Wycliff bottle, which was worth on average $5.99. So right off the bat, I realized the deal was not as sweet as it sounded. Regarding the food, the oysters ($28/dozen) were delicious, along with the Maryland half & half crab soup ($14), which came with two slices of garlic bread. The crab cake ($37) was seasoned well, however, the aioli contained a little too much of what seemed liquid smoke. The smoked lamb shank ($50!), on the other hand, lacked a smokey flavor and in my opinion, was a bit under seasoned, although cooked to perfection (was fall off the bone). In terms of the service, no one really came to refill our water glasses. I was also disappointed having ordered one of the most expensive dishes on the menu ($50 for the smoked lamb shank), and it was my least favorite. Other than that, Ampersea is a nice date spot. The weather was very nice this past Saturday 10/05. I wanted to enjoy it and possibly eat crabcakes. My friend & I visited Ampersea. I had never been but she has. The views were nice. The food was delicious. The wait staff were very nice. Carlos was our waiter. He kept the bottomless drinks and the jokes rollin. Joey, the manager, was extremely nice and even offered to take pictures of us near the boats. I was interested in every dish that rolled pass us. I eventually changing my tastebuds and went with the lobster roll after seeing the table next to us get their order. The toasted bread was amazing. The lobster was so good. Those were the best fries I've ever had!! I typically shy away from truffle fries because I don't think they're worth it. I kept saying this is obviously a great quality truffle oil! I asked Joey when he came to check on us. He said it's imported. Haha I had to get to the bottom of it but once you try these fries, then you'll understand! Called Ampersea twice to confirm a reservation I made on Open table. I received confirmation about it from both --- but today, on Thanksgiving, I learned that they had canceled the reservation. The question is: How many times do you have to call to make a reservation there? Their arrogance about this error and their refusal to correct it --- is a testimony showing and proving a lot about how this restaurant is run. My son chose it. Crab pretzel, hard not to like a house made pretzel covered in crab dip. I had the special octopus tacos which had great flavor, only thing I would do differently is try them with a corn tortilla. But, my wife got the 12 oz ribeye cut of the day.... Best steak I have ever eaten!!! Sauce with it was tremendous, cooked to perfection, literally melt in your mouth... so glad a friend recommended the spot. We will be back as their entire team was so kind and attentive. The ambience easily makes Ampersea a 10/10! Beautiful views and great service. Food was also excellent. We had the mussels to start which came with a delicious white wine old bay sauce and some bread. I had the stuffed chicken and my boyfriend had the crab cake. We were both very satisfied with our meals. I tried one of the signature drinks which was a little too sweet for my liking and a little overpriced, so would recommend a glass of wine if you're not into super sweet drinks. Since it was SO nice out today we decided to frolic around Fells Point and appetizer/Happy Hour hop. This was our first stop and most likely the last time visiting. Upon entering, it was...off. The staff wasn't very helpful or attentive. They seem to only care if you were apart of the night's "buyout night" or "catering party" (staff mentioned this a few times). I asked to sit at the bar which had two other patrons seated and both were on their phones with the speakers on very very loudly--no thank you. We heard that there was a bar outside and asked if we could sit there instead: "yes, the bar outside is open." But didn't provide us menus or directions. When we got outside, the couple seated behind the outside bar was openly complaining about the bartender being absent and ignoring them on purpose. This always irks me. If someone else is already verbally upset about service, I give the place 15 minutes to have my own interaction/opinion before I peace out. Twelve minutes later he showed up and only spoke to us but had little information to provide: didn't know which day it was or what the happy hour specials were. We ordered the mussels (3/5) and deviled eggs (3/5) along with two martinis from his ordering device. The Espresso martini was good but lacked the bubbly froth that makes it SO good (4/5). Such a GREAT location for a restaurant but I can see them being more of a venue than bar/restaurant. They were missing the friendliness and prompt organization of a well maintained and managed restaurant. read more

Oh, Ampersea! It has been too long, my old friend. I stopped in on a Sunday for a bite and some drinks with my bestie. We were promptly seated at the bar and taken care of all night by the bartender, Chrissy (spelling?). Ampersea is in a prime location of Fells Point right by the water. I haven't explored their back patio yet but I've heard great things about the back bar and the nice views of the water. Even indoors, you can still enjoy a great view thanks to the floor to ceiling windows. I ordered an old fashioned that had a fall twist since it included a cinnamon rim and a splash of apple cider. It was delicious and dangerous! It was so good I could've kept drinking it all night - but beware that this drank is strong. We also ordered a few bites to eat including the brussel sprouts and the crab dib which came with a giant, beautiful soft pretzel. SO good! I could've ate three more of those soft pretzels if I had the room. My one complaint is that the crab dip was mostly filling and didn't have any noticeable crab meat in it - it was more of a cheese dip with Old Bay seasoning. Not bad, but not exactly crab dip. It was definitely still priced like normal crab dip (around $18 I think) which is a shame! That being said, the brussel sprouts were amazing. I am a sucker for a good fried brussel sprout and these definitely met my high standards. Like most places on the water in the downtown area, you're paying for the view and the ambiance in addition to the food so prices can be pretty steep.
