Baltimore, MD (Mount Vernon) - perched on the 14th floor of the Hotel Revival, Topside overlooks the Washington Monument and boasts stunning wrap-around views of the Baltimore skyline, with an aesthetic that's clean, bright and vibes modern-Deco. A respectably curated menu carries dishes that are inventively accessorized and beautifully plated, but the quality was somewhat hit or miss, and seems to aim for a level of upscale ambition that comes close but doesn't always quite match the intent in execution. I ordered the duck breast upon our server's recommendation and was happy with that choice, along with the creamy deviled crab. Others at my table seemed to enjoy their steak frites and the market fish special (walleye). The "artisanal" breads & spreads platter arrived on a lovely tea tray, but was far from luxe, I'm afraid, consisting of butter, yellow mustard, commercial-grade olive tapenade, thin jam, and an uninspired selection of dry breads. The Duchess of Bedford would roll over in her grave. Service was kind but rather slow, but if you're here to enjoy the view, you might appreciate the unharriedness. But this really is a gorgeous location for a meal or sunset cocktails. Topside's proximity to Meyerhoff Symphony Hall (home of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra) and the Lyric - both about a half mile away - also makes this an attractive pre-concert/theater spot to grab a bite or cocktail. We came here for brunch because we were staying at the hotel there. This was terrible. We made a brunch reservation and after ordering, our food took 45 minutes to come. We didn't even get our scone before the 45 minutes. About 35 minutes in, we looked around us and noticed that not a single table that came before us had their food either. The servers said something about how everyone came in at the same time for the reservation which doesn't even make sense because the restaurant should be staggering food. Service was poor and servers were rude overall. We tried to ask if they were serving anything other than the brunch menu (like if there was a lunch menu too) and the girl looked at us like we were dumb. We later saw the table next to us with a burger, which was NOT on the brunch menu so obviously he was able to order out of the brunch menu. I got the Avocado Toast w Poached Egg. The flavor combo was unique, but was overall mid and the bread they used was not a good pick for an avocado toast. It was thick and soggy. Overall, food was mid. The interior is absolutely beautiful and creates a great atmosphere. I'd recommend making a reservation, especially on weekends. It wasn't overly crowded when we visited, but it was surprisingly loud, making conversation a bit difficult at times. Service was okay overall. The staff was friendly, but it seemed like they may have been understaffed that evening, as we often had to flag our waitress down when we needed something. As for the food, the bread tower was a little underwhelming and didn't quite live up to the hype. The steak frites, however, were excellent. The steak was cooked perfectly, the fries were delicious, and the portion size was very generous. One small drawback is that they don't offer fountain drinks, only canned sodas. After visiting the MDSPE facility for an award ceremony my family and I went to Topside. The restaurant is on the top floor of the hotel and it has a great view of the city. Service was OK. Our server, in the beginning, seemed to be frustrated with some of the questions we had, not 100% sure why. We had a great time overall. I got the duck breast and she got the steak frites. We went to Topside for a family celebration dinner and the food, service and ambiance didn't disappoint. We were greeted with such enthusiasm and excitement. Our service was excellent from the pre-dinner drinks to the bar to the table service for our meal. We ordered appetizers (ate it so quickly we didn't get a photo). Overall, I would give it a 3.5! I've had Topside on my list for awhile now and glad I made it and I would have liked to have given it a higher rating, but perhaps when I return I will update my review then. Located in Mount Vernon on top of the Revival hotel, this rooftop restaurant offers amazing views of the city. Just take the elevator up to level R/Topside. Parking wasn't hard - I found a spot right across the street. They offer valet it seems but I would say just look for street parking. On a Monday it wasn't too busy so no reservation was needed but I would say on weekends it would be. They offer a burger and beer special for $18 on Mondays - seemed to be popular. I don't really drink beer so didn't go for that. Our server never told us her name. She disappeared for awhile and again, it was a Monday so not busy at all. My friend ordered a glass of wine and she completely forgot. He eventually got it after we had to remind her. I liked the "Suede" cocktail with mezcal. I did stop by the bar on my way out and thanked Shep (not sure the spelling) but he was very nice. The hostess was very friendly. Now onto the food. It's a very limited menu. I went with the lamb, which I enjoyed with the chimichurri, but pricey for the portions. My friend got the rock fish. It has been a minute since I have been to Topside. Perched on the 14th floor, Hotel Revival, this rooftop restaurant has always been known for its views, sunny brunches and cozy dinners. Got together with a few friends for dinner during the holidays and it never disappoints. We stopped in on a Sunday, early evening around 5:30. It was pretty quiet so we were quickly seated at our table. Our server for the evening, Josh was phenomenal. Josh is pretty much knowledgeable about the entire menu and gave us wonderful recommendations from food to cocktails. And answered any questions that we had, I wound definitely sit in his section all the time. I highly recommend. Our table ordered a plethora of entrees, from the Chesapeake Cioppino( a seasfood stew with clams, mussels, rockfish, Maryland crab and fennel), a phenomenal dish and perfect for cold evenings. The Rockfish entree was really delicious and I was blown away with the crispy okra. Definitely a nice touch to the dish. It sits in a goan curry sauce, so delicious. You can never go wrong with their burger. The cracked pepper bacon along with the caramelized onion jam was really good on this burger and it was cooked perfectly, nice and juicy. We also had the Shenandoah lamb and the shrimp and grits, which were not pictured, my friends enjoyed those dishes as well. We decided to have lunch at this restaurant because we would be nearby visiting the Baltimore Museum of Art. Of course the view was the lovely from the wrap around window showing the neighborhood from the top floor of the hotel building but also the service was friendly and the food worth a second visit. I thoroughly enjoyed my crab cake sandwich and my friend marvelled at her chicken salad, which was unexpected with a rosted chicken quarter atop a bed of greens. My husband and I had dinner at Topside last weekend before an opera at the Engineer's Club. Topside is a restaurant on the top level of Hotel Revival. It has stunning 360 views of Baltimore's Mount Vernon neighborhood (and further out into the city). People were talking up to the windows and taking pictures throughout the evening (especially at sunset). It's a really stunning place for dinner or just for drinks! We shared: the octopus (blistered shishito / black garlic aioli / peppadew oil); the tuna tataki (ponzu / pear brûlée / wasabi aioli / crispy quinoa); the blue catfish (sorghum glazed snakehead filet/duck braised collard greens/white cheddar grits/ duck crackling); and a panna cotta for dessert. All the food was good. The cocktails and were really good. And the service was really great, too - our server was lovely, friendly, and helpful. Overall, we enjoyed our meal at Topside. This meal was the highlight of our Baltimore trip! We were staying in the Hotel Revival and didn't want to leave again to eat so we went up to Topside - and we were SO happy we did. I so wanted this to be a great meal! It wasn't. Alexis was friendly and attentive. The view was great. My steak was bland. I would say it was underseasoned but I couldn't tell that it was seasoned at all. Not a hint of salt or pepper. I tried different edges of it hoping that I just got unlucky. The compound butter was completely melted but didn't help. The accompanying sauces helped a little but I think a steak should be good in its own. To add insult to injury, they serve skinny fries in one of those trendy little buckets; steaks deserve steak fries. The lamb shoulder was better but not by much. Fortunately, lamb has a bold flavor all by itself and the chimichurri on the side gave it a tiny kick. The celery purée and carrots were good in and of themselves but I missed the harissa. The amaranth added nothing. All in all, the menu has good ideas with less than stellar execution. Everything about it makes me want to go back. The manager let us into the garden room to take some photos and all the staff were very professional and friendly. The food was great. We shared a handful of dishes (octopus, short rib, duck breast, lion's mane mushroom) and tried a couple of the mock tails. I wasn't really hungry but wanted drinks and the menu is very limited. They need more small bites. The appetizers were not appetizing. I definitely would t go back because the menu just didn't hit. You have one of the best views of the stunning baltimore sky line. Coming here and seeing the sunset is just dreamy. The ambiance here is the most dreamy location I've been in a long time. It's cozy, it's upscale without being intimidating. And the food is WOW. We got the duck and rock fish and it was stupendous. The charcuterie was stunning. A plot twist!! The crazy part is that I wasn't even excited to go to this place at first. I started the night out with a cocktail and I wasn't a huge fan. It was floral and it tasted like quality ingredients, but it just wasn't for me. Then we started ordering food. First was the bread board... Wow!! The bread! The butter!! I cannot rave enough about the butter!!! Wow! It went from strength to strength from there. And I'm telling you...that is the best burger I've had in my life. The most stunning rooftop with a view of Mount Washington monument. Honestly topside is where I had one of my first happy memories in Baltimore so it kind of pains me to write this review. This review really relates to wine but if you're going to charge $20 for a glass of wine, I need to write this review. I've had a couple bites over the years since 2019 but never had a meal, I usually come for the cocktails and they are solid! I came here the other night to have some wine and I was outraged by the $20 per glass for a Cabernet from California not even a natural wine! The glassware for a $20 does not match, it's that really thick horrible wine glass you never want to drink wine from. Also they served the Cabernet and the Pinot Noir both way too hot. The most decent red was the Bordeaux blend. I was having a good time so we did keep ordering wine, but after seeing the bill, I was not impressed. The service was pretty slow. I kept having to ask for water and it was pretty empty when we went. It's still a really cool ambience, but as a warning. Do not get wine here. read more

For apps we ordered the bread basket (focaccia was amazing and the spread comes with two types of butter), Spanish shrimp (jumbo shrimp sits atop a grits cake, has peppers onions sausages), and green salad. All very good. For entrees my fiance has the topside burger which he liked, big portion and comes with a ton of fries. Fries were pretty plain, could use some salt. I had the duck breast which they butter basted and was delicious- had it done medium rare. small portion, great presentation, super tender. This is a premier restaurant with a price tag to match so expectations were high and some of the service didn't quite cut it. Of course the most impressive parts of this restaurant are the incredible views of the city, this place is definitely one to bring out of towners! Cocktails were good. Fire on the mountain and bright and hazy being stand outs. They do have mocktails but at a $11-13 price tag for no alcohol, they're not particularly encouraging for non drinkers... a mocktail should be $6-7. At a premier restaurant like this, maybe $8-9 but $13 is laughable. We split the bread basket with a few kinds of breads and butters, it was a great starter. Unfortunately after we'd all used our knives for the butter, we weren't brought new utensils for our next course. Unless the butter is served with its own knife (it wasn't), that should be common sense at a high end restaurant. We all got different dishes, including burrata. Burrata is a spreadable cheese. Unfortunately it wasn't served with any kind of cracker, toast, or anything to dip it in. It was presented more as a salad with watermelon slices. While delicious, this is burrata, it's meant to spread, and a restaurant like this should know that. For entrees, we got lobster pasta and short rib. Everything was beautiful and delicious. My girlfriend and I had the zero proof cocktails one night and another day, I had the perfect aperol spritz with a happy hour appetizer of hummus and muhammara. One evening I had the fish with coconut rice and my friend had the gumbo and we shared the octopus which was outstanding! The fish was prepared perfectly. Last I had brunch with my girlfriend on Sunday and she loved her coffee and had several refills. I had a grapefruit pomegranate mimosa along with the omelette of the day, which was one of the best omelettes of my life. It came with a little frissee salad, and that was amazing too! Also, we shared a house-made lemon blueberry scone, which was huge and tasty! My server many of the times I was there was a lovely server named Sue and she was fabulous! The bartender who made the excellent cocktails and cocktails I think was Christian. And Dwayne was their most elegant and charming staff! He knew the history of the area and since I had returned for my college reunion, he knew everything I was reminiscing about. I went to Topside on Wednesday night for a late dinner and drinks. I'd completely forgotten that I had been to topside before almost a year ago. I do enjoy the ambiance and the great views of Mt. Vernon but I remember not being super satisfied with the food I order. However, this visit I got the Branzino. It was very delicious, and filling I definitely had to take half of it home.My friend ordered the gumbo and enjoyed it as well (after adding a lil extra salt and hot sauce). We both enjoyed our drinks and the service was great. We even went downstairs and spent a few hours in the speakeasy after we finished dining. It's great for a night out with friends. read more

A great place to celebrate my fiancés birthday! It has a beautiful view, especially during sunset. We were lucky enough to get a table right next to the window, but there's not a bad seat in the whole place! We started with some delicious drinks, a whiskey sour and a sangria inspired cocktail. We made a reservation for Topside after attending a show at The Lyric and it was the perfect date night combo! First, the views are incredible. I didn't take any photos this time around because I was so thoroughly enjoying the sun set surrounding us on all sides. This place is gorgeous and you won't regret the view, no matter where you sit. The cocktail menu isn't huge but there are plenty of great choices. We had the Something Splendid (I think that was the name) and A Little Sip of Summer - both were gorgeous, flavorful, and easy to sip. We met some friends and all shared the burrata plate. While the peaches were a little unripe and firm to the touch, the flavors meshed well with the watermelon and arugula. It was more of a burrata salad and was the perfect size for a quick bite before dinner. For dinner, I had the Seafood Rice, which is really a paella. The seafood was fresh, the rice and seasoning were well cooked, and I loved the playful display of the two sauces. My friends had the Bronzino, the Chilean Sea Bass, and the charcuterie board and everyone kept commenting how delicious it was.
