My oh my, what an experience. I was told amazing things about Ample Hills, but was skeptical. Two scoops later, my mind was changed. Of course, they let you try any flavor you wish. However, if there's a long line behind you you might feel a little bit bad about taking too much time sampling. That said, the people behind the bar are amazing. They're very friendly, quick, and will make sure you are being helped (all the while with smiles on their faces). I had a single scoop in a cup, with half Mexican Hot Chocolate and half Ooey Gooey Butter Cake. The thing about Ample Hills is that a single is pretty much two scoops and you can mix and match. It also costs $4.25 including tax which is pretty good considering the quality of what you get. The Mexican Hot Chocolate was delicious. It had a nice little kick in the form of chili flakes mixed into the rich dark chocolate ice cream. The Ooey Gooey Butter Cake was everything it was chalked up to be, with delicious cake bits and batter-y ice cream. A word of caution though: this place fills up quick. The line wasn't bad when we got there, but by the time we finished eating, it went all the way to the back of the store. But it is totally worth it! read more

HOW DID I NEVER WRITE A REVIEW FOR THIS PLACE?!? Someone got me a cake from here and I basically ate it all to myself. It's well worth the calories. The cake consisted of a layer of brownie, fudge and two ice cream flavors (mine being the Nonna D and a coffee flavor). Nonna D is my go to flavor. I came back recently and tried their pumpkin flavor as well...I think whatever flavor with cookie bits has my vote. The pretzel cone is a bit too salty for my taste with the ice cream. I'll stick to my normal sugar cone. With a small size, you can get 2 flavors and with a large, you can get as many flavors as you want. They have samples so choose carefully. So many crazy flavors it's hard to choose just one! Ended up going with the 6 mini scoops and tried a majority of them. In my opinion that is the best option for a first timer when you don't know what to choose! After trying the different flavors, our two favorites were "munchies" and "snap-malo-pop" Our least favorite was the "salted crack" because it was bitter and had a burnt taste. I tried Ample Hills for the first time friday night. I was pretty excited because everyone knows I LOVE ICE CREAM! And one of my friends says this is one of her favorite places. Oh maaaaan. She was right. I just looked up a little background info on the spot. I guess the creator was a sci-fi screenplay writer that decided to sell ice cream from carts during Prospect Park summer concerts and his little start-up blossomed. And the name is in homage to Walt Whitman. Who I don't really personally like. They have so many flavors though! And I just noticed on their online menu they have a flavor in homage to Game of Thrones!!!! Ahhhhhh! I need to go back now!!! I tried a small sample of Ooey Gooey Butter Cake. It was very sweet but decadent with the chunks of cake from apparently St. Louis. Oh and I tried the Peanut Butter and Jelly which was a wham of delicious creamy peanut butter. My friend went with a cone of 'The Way the Cookie Crumbles', vanilla ice cream with chocolate chip cookies and dark chocolate. I finally decided on a bowl of 'Chocolate Milk and Cookies', filled with all natural Back to Nature Sandwich Cookies. It was thick and creamy and the cookies just great. I regret not getting a cone though because my friend said the cone was even better tasting than the ice cream and one of the best she's had in her life. Crap. What a cute and very kid friendly environment. This is the kind of ice cream place I wished I walked into when I was a kid. They have a little play area in the back for toddlers. They have many flavors on the menu and they let you sample it. The 2 flavors we got: Vanilla Bean- Steeped Mexican Vanilla Beans & Madagasacar Bourbon Vanilla Bean Extract. This is a good flavor to get. Just the right amount of vanilla and it is not overly sweet. It was just right. Pistachio Squared- creamy pistachio ice cream with homemade brown sugar pistachio brittle. This was an amazing flavor. It was creamy and great pistachio taste. What made it even better was the crunch and sweet taste from the pistachio brittle. Awesome!!! The staff is super friendly here. Great place for young kids and adults. My absolute favorite ice cream. It doesn't get any better than this folks. I used to live in Park Slope and walk over to this place for ice cream. This is the original location and also the smaller one so seating is limited. There's probably going to be a line when you go but it's worth the wait. All the regular and seasonal flavors I've tried are great while my personal favorites are salted crack caramel and mexican hot chocolate. The prices, while a bit high for ice cream, are reasonable when you realize the high quality, texture, and fresh taste instead of artificial flavors. The pint size is a great deal! They also allow you to get 2 flavors for each size and you can try as many as you want. I've turned so many friends and family members in to ample hills lovers. Some of them now have Ample Hills ice cream delivered across the country to them so I'm not lying when I say it's amazing. read more

An after dinner stop, this corner ice cream shop has the bright, airy interior of a classic, old town ice cream shop but nothing fancy. They have several tables outside that require some maneuvering through tight spaces to get to and some more seating inside. All natural ice cream is their game, and they have some interesting flavors (e.g., baked/unbaked, otis stout and pretzels). Unfortunately, many of the flavors were already sold out when we went so we were down to only a few choices. The only flavor left that I wanted to try was the salted cracked caramel; as it was, the server gave me all that was left of it from the container, a bit shy of a full cup. Ice cream texture was very soft, almost runny, too soft for me. Not sure if it was because it was really the bottom of the barrel. Flavor was bright, dancing between salty and sweet, sweeter than I'd like but depends on your preference. I think its relatively expensive, even for all natural, housemade product. I'm updating this review because I love, love, love this place. I don't think I rant about any business, more than I rant about Ample Hills Creamery. It's just that good. GREAT service, GREAT people, AMAZING interesting and new flavors and it's the perfect neighborhood hangout, ALL YEAR LONG. How many ice cream places can say that?? You should 'like' their facebook page, as they constantly announce new flavors, promotions, and request help for naming new flavors as well as request suggestions for new flavor combos. Also of note, they've recently started their "Crossing Brooklyn Ferry" special, named after the Whitman poem of the same title. It costs about $10.95 and is a steal, IMO. You'll get three scoops of ice cream over a brownie or ooey-gooey cake base and a split banana, plus options of whipped cream, sauces, toasted marshmallows, sprinkles, gummies, cookie bits, and etc. It's pretty big and so worth it if you're sharing with 2+ people. read more

This place has exceptional ice cream with very clever titles and ingredients. They have splendid flavored and amazing varieties to choose from. Tonight they are a bit light on sorbet which is a bummer. When you come to this ice cream shop be prepared to wait. I think the average wait for ice cream is at least 15-25 minutes. Even with an average of four to five servers behind the counter they really have trouble keeping up with the demand. The overall feel for this place is very casual. They have a space for your kids to entertain themselves so that's very considerate. I guess the fact that they are so successful lead to them opening up more locations. But that doesn't stop these lines from being out of control. One server said they sell pre-packaged pints which can expedite your waiting. One other bonus is this is the place to see and be seen. After my dentist (out of all people) suggested Ample Hills Creamery we took the subway into Brooklyn for a sweet treat. Situated in the cutest neighborhood (Prospect Heights I believe), AHC offers homemade delectable ice cream. No flavor is too grand our out of the ordinary. We tried the salted caramel and cookies and cream. The caramel flavor felt like a punch in the mouth it was so darn strong... but in the best way possible. They have some indoor and outdoor seating, but if the weather permits, sit outside and enjoy the scenery. I'd suggest stopping by for a quick sweet bite if you're in the area or visiting from out of town. Trust me, the small commute from Manhattan to Brooklyn is well worth it... and who doesn't love ice cream?! read more

Of course not all of their flavors are good but I'd say a good 50-60% are decent or better! I like getting the 6 scoop flight and sharing among a group of people who don't mind sharing germs! Many reviews comment on the line. I stopped by at 3 on Saturday afternoon on a beautiful day, and did not have to wait. They had to wait on me because I couldn't pick a flavor! When it came down to it, I choose the PB wins the cup & double chocolate flavors. I, of course, went with a large in a pretzel cone. SO GOOD. The only downside was that my cone cracked so I had to eat it out of a bowl. Still tasted amazing. The BF went with the banananut and the munchies in a large cone with a cookie m&m cone. His was really good too, his cone was better than mine so I will be keeping that in mind for my next visit. Everyone should check this place out, flavors for everyone! I used to make ice cream...really good ice cream so when it comes to hard ice cream, I AM SO PICKY! The moment I walked into this tiny storefront I could tell I was in for a treat! There was a long line that seemed to move fairly quickly. Whether it was the speed of the scoopers or the distraction of the fun wall decorations adorned with praises of their ice cream I don't know! I got the When Spuds Attack Flavor- potato chip flavored ice cream with chocolate coated potato chips and it was fantastic! But be warned, their ice cream is on the rich side! The epitome of a fun, laidback and INVENTIVE creamery! After reading some reviews on their Salted Crack Caramel flavor, I decided to order this flavor, without trying. The wonderful girl behind the counter warned me that this flavor was not for everyone, and handed me a tester spoonful. Thank goodness for her, because she was SO right. It had a great smoky flavor, and definitely unique but it was not for me. After trying a few other flavors, THE MUNCHIES and OOGEY GOOGEY were the best! One scoop atop a chocolate chip cone, was delicious yet SO filling, I had to fight my natural instincts to dispose of the rest. The Chocolate Chip cone was an adorable idea, however it was more for show than it was for taste, so I would skip this one next time. Overall, great place! I love that all the ingredients are made in house, and the staff did not make me feel rushed despite the line out the door. This ample hills has the BEST staff working here. Photogenic, comedic, and the best part is that you dont have to ASK for samples. My cashier let me sample all the popular ones and her personal favorites. You can't go wrong with any of the flavors here and the scoops of ice-cream are the size of a baseball. I tried the m&m cone and it was interesting to try and pretty good, but I think my favorite will always be the good ol' waffle cone. Each specialty cone is an extra $1.50 on top. The only reason why I gave this place a 4 instead of 5 is because their ice-cream was too sweet for my tastebuds. I really started to lose interest in my ice-cream after finishing 1/3rd of it, but once I start something I always finish so I gobbled it down anyway (: . The best ice cream...EVER. My favorite is the Snap Mallow Pop. It's seriously like eating a super soft rice crispy treat. Too damned good, it would easily become an addiction for me if I lived closer to this place. Other faves are the Ooey Gooey and Chocolate milk and cookies. I can't believe that I'm now giving a review for Ample Hill. Me and Ample Hill Creamery have HISTORY. I've been coming here for more than five years for ice cream. This isn't my favorite location due to all the influx of....shall we say...strollers. But it's totally worth it. They have so many different flavors that are unique to the brand. I will always be a cookies n cream girl but sometimes I tend to be adventurous. When I am...I go for the pistachio ice cream. Picture pistachio brittle with the sugar bits blended in the ice cream. If you are a fan of Melissa cupcakes...if you are a fan of cupcakes they have this ice cream but it usually seasonal so look out for that. Ever heard of honey ice cream? Ask for "Sweet as honey"...it will not disappoint. Last but certainly not least is the "Ooey Gooey Butter Cake"...I can't even begin to explain so you would just need to taste it for yourself. With that being said, I love the employees. They are always enthusiastic to let you know about the flavors and which one you should get. They are also very efficient. Does Ample Hills really need another review? Yeah bwoy, it sure does! Man, where do I start? First, the customer service is totally on-point. Granted, girlie and I were there in the middle of the week and in the middle of the day. Still, the young lady behind the counter allowed us to sample various flavors without our even asking. Although I didn't want to be like that annoying lady on the yogurt store episode Curb Your Enthusiasm, we did take ample advantage (get it? get it?!) of the situation. Alright, they're already in the plus one column! I ended up selecting three scoops of deliciousness: strawberry, coffee and something else (it was weeks ago, sorry). So good though. Don't mistake my bad memory for displeasure, I simply got lost in the wonderfulness of it all. I think/know I'll take more chances on certain flavors next time, though that toffee crunch one was too sweet for me and the beer one (girlie had a scoop of that) a bit too 'beer-y'. Died and went to heaven), and Nonna's Oatmeal Lace (oatmeal lace cookie bits and cinnamon). I've also sampled the salted crack caramel (pretty good and I'm normally not a fan of salted caramel) and a friend once got a seasonal Guinness chocolate flavor.
