This place is on the same caliber as Bi-rite in San Fran (really delicious). My friend lives within a 5 min subway ride from here and I am so envious of him. The line was fairly long on a Saturday and it wasn't even on a hot day, it was about high 60s so i can't imagine what the lines would be on a typical summer day in NY. The line moves fairly quickly and gives you plenty of time to decide what you want. The employees are friendly and don't mind giving you samples of all their flavors. First of all, the value here is amazing, the cost of what I ordered would have easily been $6.50 in Manhattan. More importantly, the ice cream is supremely creamy - full fat is where it's at folks. Sitting outside, the ice cream was dripping onto my fingers, but didn't mind too much since the looks people give you walking by the place is worth it. I got the Mexican Hot Chocolate like all the reviews raved about atop an ooey goey butter cake with salted caramel and whip cream (that create your sundae spesh they have) and I will say that the flavor is a total kick in the mouth / throat. It was a little much for me so I will say that I will give that particular flavor 3 stars because after the initial bites of loving it (and yes, I did try a sample before I dove in), I quickly ran for the water since it had that Mexican spicy kick in my throat. Very weird for ice cream. I'd liken it to the time I had this one gourmet chocolate that had chili in it. Weird. I gave them an extra star because of the fact that the ooey goey butter cake that I chose with my sundae should really be sold on its own. OMG! Are the words that my two friends were chanting en route to what I would later refer to as delightful little ice cream spot on the corner of Vanderbilt and Amazing Flavors! Last night was my first time coming here and I loved it. This creamery is adorable and very charming. I was pretty happy we got to walk right in since the first time that I saw this place there was a line wrapped around the corner late at night. It's clearly very popular in the community! Being the indecisive person that I am (when it comes to ice cream), I was really appreciative of the guy behind the counter being patient with me as I took my time deciding what ice cream flavors I wanted to sample. I sampled the Caught in the Rain (pina colada) and Ooey Gooey. I ultimately choose the Ooey Gooey Butter Cake, vanilla ice cream with chunks of St. Louis Ooey Gooey Butter Cake, as a kid sized scoop for $2.75 on a delicious sugar wafer cone. I knew that until the very last lick of the ice cream and the last bite of the cone I was six years old again. My taste buds were ecstatic. Sitting down with friends at the little counter next to the cashier, we noticed there was a massive selection of GLITTERY CRAYONS in front of us a long with a notebook. Since we were all clearly channeling our inner 6 year old, we drew in it. It gave a real special touch to enjoying this freshly made ice cream! Smooth, like a good bourbon should be, but without coming across too strong.
