Most unpleasant experience at a professional doctor's office.  When I went in for the eye exam a few weeks ago, the doctor greeted me with a speech about how 3 years ago when l had my exam, she did not get the $40 contact lens fitting fee from my insurance since I didnt order contacts from her.  She said she misinterpreted my coverage so she didnt want to send me a bill separately and decided to just "swallow the cost."  If I dont plan to order the contacts from her again I have to pay out of pocket.  She then tried to say her contact lens prices are very comparable to everywhere else.  I was a bit taken aback.  Whey does she have to talk to me like I didn't pay on purpose last time?  I also hesitated because there's a place I've been going to for contacts for over 10 years already.  After the exam, she told me right away the charge is 50, 10 for copay and 40 for fitting-which she hadnt done. When it was time to pay, I asked the guy at the front desk if I need to schedule an appointment for the fitting since I was getting charged for it.  He said "..oh do you want to? She didnt give you a pair to try this time? Yeah if you feel like you want to come in again for a fitting."  Umm..i thought it was a required procedure?!  He said it's not a required procedure and I only have to do it if I want to. In fact, the doctor already finalized the prescription.  I asked him if he was sure several times since the doctor made that long speech about her 'generosity' before and kept saying I have to pay for the fitting.  He said he was certain. He then said he will email me my prescription.  Days passed and I got nothing.  When i called to follow up on it, i got an email for my glasses prescription only.  I had to call back again about the contact lens prescription and they put the doctor on the phone.  She said "I thought I made it clear to you that you have to pay the $40 dollars!"  When I tried to explain to her what happened she said "well it really seemed like you didnt want to pay for it and my employee thought so too."  If you want it you will have to come in for the fitting.   I went in today and got the exact same prescription that she prescribed 3 years ago. So thanks for nothing and no thanks to your bitterness and biased assumption that I would not pay for a necessary procedure.  Communication is so disconnected at this place.  And if she is gonna be this upset that I don't order contacts from her, she might as well make it part of her policy that if you see her for an eye exam, you also have to order contacts there. read more

Amy Kim is a rock star! She is the best thing to happen to my eyes since those rigid gas perms freed me from the tyranny of glasses when I was 17 years old. I had been with another optometrist for the past 10 years or so. My previous doctor was great, but she got me to a certain point optically (successfully migrated me from gas permeable to soft lenses, which previous doctors said would not be possible due to my astigmatism); until we reached an impasse: I have a very high myopia with moderate astigmatism which could not be perfectly corrected. My farsightedness was increasing also, which means I was having trouble reading small print with my contacts in. Also, the previous doctor was never able to get my left lens comfortable, and I was having problems with the exams, even getting sent to the Emergency room following a nasty allergic reaction to some eye drops which put me out of work and in great pain for three days. Well, all of that changed dramatically when I recently met Amy Kim and the fine staff at Amy Kim Optometry! Dr. Kim was able to clear up my vision, get me into comfortable lenses, correct the myopia AND improve my ability to read up close; and she did it all without putting me in any pain! She is whip-smart and was able to get my vision sharp in record time, getting me to optimal vision faster than at any previous doctor. Even the dilation solution Dr. Kim used was very mild; it wore off in two hours and did not leave me with the splitting migraine headache I had become accustomed to from previous exams. Also, Dr. Kim has a gentle touch and is easy on the eyes - both physically and in her ever-smiling personage. By the way, her staff is also warm and supportive. They kindly guide you through the process, work out all the insurance issues, and are friendly, helpful and quietly confident and competent. As an added bonus, Amy Kim Optometry is located adjacent to the Del Amo Mall; so you can get your eye care needs taken care of and also enjoy the shops, movie theatre and many of the other fine offerings and restaurants nearby. I, for one, have nothing but great things to say about Dr. Amy Kim Optometry. I had a great experience there. You will too! read more

I live in Washington, but I came down to LA for a vacation to meet my friends. I usually wear glasses, but I needed contact lenses for swimming. So I went to Dr. Kim's office and she was very attentive and through with the exam. Unlike my previous doctors, she was paying a lot of attention to the health of my eyes, not just focusing on prescription check-up. I also tried a new type of contact lenses and it was much more comfortable on my eyes than the ones I used to wear previously. I will come back again when I visit LA next time. read more

I came here after a bad experience with a previous optometrist. According to the previous optometrist, I had a symptom for early onset glaucoma. He claimed that in his 20 years experience, my situation is the first. When Dr. Kim saw me, she determined that I had a unique eye condition that was not a symptom of glaucoma. She also was able to tell me that this condition is quite common amongst people of my ethnic background. Because my other family members also see Dr. Kim, she was able to look into my family history of eye problems and talk in depth about possible issues I may have in the future. This is the first time that an optometrist has talked to me about my family's eye problems. Overall, Dr. Kim delivered unparalleled service. I highly recommend to bring your family here so that you can gain a better understanding of any hereditary eye problems that you may be unaware of. read more

ABSOLUTELY THE BEST AND MOST KNOWLEDGEABLE EYE DOCTOR I'VE EVER BEEN TO. Dr. Amy discovered a condition called Keratoconus, which makes my cornea distort in a pointy matter. Apparently I've been living with this for years. I've visited kaiser in my teenage years and they never detected this.  Dr. Amy noticed this during my first eye test in her office. AMAZING RIGHT?   She then schedualed me to see a specialist for test to confirm my condition.  Unfortunately I was diagnosed with Keratoconus but not all hero's wear capes.  Dr. Amy managed to get the perfect fitment for my cornea and the right correction. After a few more test I recieve my first pair of contact lenses. Words cannot explain how much my vision improved.  It literally feels like I've jumped into a different dimension.  Everything is extremely clear!!!!!!! (: the staff that works there is extremely knowledgeable and guided me through everything I needed to know about my new contact lenses.  They schedualed a follow up and right when I think my vision can't get any better,  dr. Amy ran yet another test and pulled out a lense that corrected my right eye. Every visit is just shocking, she just keeps finding way to improve my vision!  I am expecting another pair that will give me perfect vision.  It's crazy to think that about a month ago, I couldn't see txt on my computer without being glued to the screen. All of this was covered with my insurance and only had to pay a very small co payment.  Very Hassel free office.  Please do not get fooled because it is located in a shopping mall. Dr. Kim gave me one of the best eye exams I have received. Some doctors do just little more than prescription checks, but Dr. Kim paid close attention if my eyes don't have any problems. If you are on a tight budget, ask for fully covered glasses. They will not try to sell anything more. read more

Slow service. Be prepared to wait a good 45 minutes after your appointment time. Did not give me the right prescription. My vision was blurrier than before. I had to go back so she could adjust it. It took another week for me to get an appointment to go back. Then I had to wait another 45 minutes just to have a 5 minute appointment to adjust the prescription. In the end I had to tell her what my last prescription was and ask her to give me the same prescription. I have been wearing contacts and glasses for over 20 years and I will never go back to this place. read more
