Dr. Matsunaga is extremely helpful, kind, takes time to discuss your results and concerns. One of the best optometrists I've experienced (I've been to many - Id say about 12 optometrists over the years due to moving and just wanting to try out new optometrists. He's extremely knowledgeable. 5/5! The unfortunate thing is, the front desk receptionist is a 0/5. I have spoken to her at least 5 times via phone and in-person, and it's like it's her goal to be the least helpful person. Rude responses, always acts like you're bothering her, and takes forever to get back to you on simple items. She's off-putting enough for me to never want to come back to this office, unfortunately -- despite how great the optometrist is. read more

I am not sure why I haven't written a review for SO before now. I have been coming here for years, when Dr. Nakano was here. After he retired, Dr. Matsunaga continued his practice with the same amazing staff from before. Dr. Matt Matsunaga is a Torrance schools alum (North High I believe), and he is great! Even my very young daughter at the time, found him very friendly. The staff is very organized and informative. Brandon, the frames specialist, is a GEM. He is very very good at his job, and I look forward to seeing him at my visits. If you are looking for a family optometrist, Southwood Optometry, has it all. Yes, Dr. Matsunaga sees kids! You can be in and out in an hour flat! One hour parking validation really lives up to it's name. I was shocked that it was exactly on point. Visit them at the plaza across from Little Company (where all of the great doctors and specialists are - yes, that building) - there is a parking attendant, but it is no trouble at all. So I was back for my yearly check up and I really can't say enough nice things about Dr Matsunaga and his Staff. I always have fun there especially talking about food! Great tips on local eats so make sure you ask them Anyway my prescription is still good so I don't need New glasses which is another great thing about Southwood; they don't oversell you, if you need glasses great but if you don't they don't try to make you buy anything!!
