i am new to vsp and called to make an appointment for an exam for contact lens. the front desk staff were all really nice, over the phone and in person. they called prior to my appointment to give a friendly reminder. dr au and his staff were all very professional. my exam look about 30m dr au was pretty personable. recommended that i purchase pataday eye drops for my red eyes which are caused by allergies. the only thing is that i was not made aware of was the contact fitting fee, which is $60. when i called to make the appt, the gal provided my co pay amount and the allowance for contacts under my vision insurance. this is why i always opt out of vision insurance bc it costs less for me to pay out of pocket for contacts than to pay for vision insurance twice a month + copay + contact fitting fee + difference of what my insurance covers for contacts, which is about $100 more. so basically i am paying double this year. other than not disclosing the contact fitting fee..the visit was good. parking: plenty of parking. read more

Wow -- I'm blown away! Dr. Au and his staff are AMAZING! I'm such a chicken when it comes to anything involving my eyes, but from the very first phone call, the ladies at the front desk made me feel completely at ease, and even excited to come in for my eye exam. My husband and I came in simply because it was time for our checkups, and the whole experience exceeded our expectations. We went in thinking we might need contacts, but thankfully we're at a level where they weren't necessary (yay!). The exam itself was thorough, efficient, and surprisingly easy. Even the dreaded air test for glaucoma, which I usually hate, was quick and painless. The paperwork was clear and easy to complete, which was such a relief compared to other offices where forms feel overwhelming or confusing (almost punitive LOL). I also loved the office ydecor. It's full of travel souvenirs and sports memorabilia, which gives the space so much personality and warmth. I really appreciate offices that feel personal and welcoming rather than cold or sterile. Dr. Au is truly exceptional. He's patient, funny, and genuinely caring. What really stood out to me was that he took the time to get to know us: our lifestyle, habits, and reasons for coming in, and offered personalized advice that actually felt doable. I felt seen and heard, which is honestly rare and so refreshing in healthcare. I just moved back to the South Bay, and I'm so happy to say I've officially found my eye doctor. THREE STRIKES - My gradient sunglasses came back without any gradient at all the first time -- Put them on a piece of paper you couldn't tell the top from the bottom I was asked if I just wanted the bottom to be lighter. I said "no" want the top to be darker and the bottom to be lighter -- basic gradient sunglasses, nothing special. Another two weeks later, all they did was lighten the bottom -- when I said "no" to that. When I asked why they didn't darken the top, she said because they couldn't -- which I should have been told within a couple of days so I could make a decision -- which is a very likely a lie. Gradient sunglasses on online websites show the top can be 80% bottom can be 0%. This is pretty much what you see anytime you go into an eyeglass store and you look at the demo glasses that are gradient. You don't have to put them on a piece of paper to see if they're gradient. I'm guessing they said they couldn't fix the lenses because that would've meant fixing their error from scratch, re-grinding a new set of lenses The other pair of glasses, I asked them to put lenses in a frame I already had. That was a special request.It took 2 weeks maybe 2 1/2 to tell me they couldn't do it. Again, the doctor is cool. He's great. The service is terrible. Don't buy your glasses there. read more

Went here for an eye exam and wanted some new contacts. The doctor was nice but the contacts were not. The contacts distorted my vision. When I brought this issue up, the doctor gaslighted me into thinking that these were the best vision I could get. I've been to other optometrists who got me glasses and contacts that worked perfectly fine. Oh my gosh, the best eye appointment I ever had! It was quick, funny, and I learned from it! I am a new patient, was welcomed as soon as I stepped in (friendly staff), completed my paper work and was automatically taken for my eye exam. I broke the chair (again, i'm so sorry!) and was given instructions step by step what we were doing and why. This MD explained to me his opinion, and how things work for our eyes. I started seeing Dr. Au a few years ago when his office was in Manhattan Beach. After he left, I tried seeing another Optometrist, and realized how much I took for granted his kind, thoughtful and thorough manner. It took some searching, but finally found him at his new office at Torrance Vision Center. The office is in a strip mall at the corner of Crenshaw & Sepulveda. It is a little tough to see from the street but (unlike his old mall location) has plenty of parking. They have a large selection of eyewear, and at all price points. I'm not sure where to begin to describe Dr. Au. He is personable (and funny!), VERY knowledgeable, thorough, patient, honest, professional, and all around just great at what he does. His office staff, Mei & Gail, are friendly and welcoming as well. I ordered a new pair of reading glasses, completely covered by my vision plan, and feel very comfortable about the care and information that I received by Dr. Au and his staff. I definitely highly recommend Dr. Au, and yes, he is definitely worth the drive from Manhattan Beach! read more

Our optometrist is closed on Mondays and one of my glass screws popped out so I found this shop on Yelp to take in to get repaired because I needed to see and they charged me $8 for the screw. I have NEVER been charged before at any other eyeglass shop/optometrist (Venice Optical is an example) or at Kaiser, it's usually a complimentary service whether I'm a customer or not. I won't be returning or recommending to others. P.S. your tire analogy does not hold water. I have gotten a nail in my tire and not only did America's Tire on Hawthorne Blvd. remove the nail and patch the hole for free, they gave me a free tire tool kit too. I was able to schedule an appointment within a few days and also received a confirmation/reminder call the day before. Everyone was so nice at the office! The whole process was easy and smooth - from the eye exam to choosing the frames (I opted for sunglasses). Although they didn't have many sunglasses on display, they said any pair of frames could be used for sunglasses. My sunglasses were ready within a week. Would highly recommend! read more
