I had a speck (felt like pebble) in my eye and in my panic state , spent the whole day rinsing my eye so much so that I removed the top layer of my cornea. Ouch. I didn't want to make the drive to my eye doctor in OC so I contacted this office and they were able to squeeze me in the same day. Thank you so much!! The staff was friendly, patient and professional. I have PPO insurance so I was able to go with whomever so that helped. In keeping with the friendly and approachable theme - Doctor Florister was also very friendly, patient and professional. And quite funny. She was a bit alarmed that I had rinsed off the top layer of my eye but reassured me that the eye will heal itself in a day or two if I stopped rinsing. The moral of the story I learned is that if something gets caught in your eyes- just rinse continuously for the first 15 minutes and then stop - whatever is in there would come out by then if not then no amount of continued rinsing would help. Don't be an idiot like me and rinse every two hours ! ‍‍ My eyes are back to normal now with the use of eye ointment and gel drops. No prescription medication needed and not antibiotics because she didn't think it was infected. Overall I was very happy with my experience with Eye Care Riviera and highly recommend it! I have had an astigmatism since I was in my teens that makes it hard to fit me for contacts and glasses. Although with a skilled optometrist, I can correct to 20/20 or better. I have been to lots of optometrists in my life. Some have been good and some not so much. My last optometrist was the best I had ever been to. So when I learned he was retiring two years ago, I was more than a little sad, and also worried about how I would ever find someone to replace him. So I went to the website of the company that made my contact lenses and searched for someone who was familiar with them and who was also close to my home. After doing some research, I decided to make a new patient appointment with Doctor Julie Forister in Redondo Beach, and wow am I glad I did! The entire staff, from the person answering the phone, to check-in and front desk, to the testing process, are very friendly, helpful and accommodating. I very much appreciate everything about how I have been treated by them. The doctors are lucky to have them as employees. I found Doctor Forister to be professional, easy going and easy to work with, patient, thorough, and she obviously loves being an optometrist and helping people to see well as well as teaching them how to protect their eye health. She sees children too, and I'm sure she has a great bedside manner with kiddos. She has suggested a change to my contacts and it has been a definite improvement from what I had been using previously! I was diagnosed with Karatoconus & made an appointment with Dr.Forister to go over what actions I can take next. She is very knowledgeable, kind, and funny which for my circumstance was very helpfull since being diagnosed with KC can be somewhat depressing. The dr. is very nice but I am very concerned with the outcome. For some reason they felt the need to underprescribe me, twice. They would not change my contact lenses when I requested they do. They would not prescribe me my usual prescription. They did not dilate my eyes. Now I am forced to pay out of pocket, to get my prescription renewed to get the correct prescription so I can order the correct lenses, which will be another charge. I've also started experiencing floaters, and out of fear about bad vision advice, I just cannot return here. read more

I recently moved next door to this cute little office. I was able to make an appointment which worked best with my schedule. The front desk directed me to their website where I was able to fill out my new patients forms ahead of time which is such a time saver. On my appointment date I was seen with little to no wait time. Dr. Forister's chairside manner is amazing. She explains everything in depth and to your understanding which I find very valuable because I like to know what's going on and be educated about my health vs being told what she thinks I need. Unbelievable! They employ the old "bait and switch" tactics. I have taken my child there for a year. Now I am told that the exam is separate from the prescription. The exam is $150 AND if I want a prescription it will be an additional $350. Have you ever heard of a Doctor holding your prescription hostage? Asking to pay additional money (after you paid for the exam that told you you need a prescription) for writing a prescription? Not executing mind you. Only writing it on paper so you can go pay the pharmacy for it. My advise- stay away. read more
