I found Amy Woo from someone on Instagram recommending her! I was looking for a new dentist since I wasn't loving the one I was currently at. Dr. Fareed has been helping me and has been so amazing. Of course no one loves the dentist, but she makes me feel so comfortable and really explains what she's doing and WHY!! It's so refreshing to understand the why behind it. The office is so nice and clean. They have a kid area, coffee, water, and a nice big waiting area. They also have parking in the back which is nice for a downtown office! I just had the best experience with whitening my teeth. My dentist, Dr. Woo in one of my cleanings a few months ago just mentioned "hey think about getting your teeth whitened." Of course in my mind I said no way cuz I know they are going to use those whitening trays as in the past. Of which, I finally had to throw away as my husband wasn't thinking about using them after they had been in the refrigerator for at least a year maybe even longer. Fast forward to my appointment today to get a filling replaced. As they were finishing I said what about that teeth whitening thing. And I went on to say I don't want anything I have to use at home. Dr. Woo was okay with that and said lots of her patients don't like to do anything further at home. So for kicks and giggles, I asked can you give me a quote. To my amazement it was less than a $1000. Dr. Woo even said the only person who does the process actually has an opening right now. Y'all Riki is the real star in this teeth whitening process. Dr. Woo told me my current teeth color is like a grey and it might take a few sessions and probably a few more in person visits for my teeth to get to a better shade. Now back to our star, Riki. She went to work on me right away. I wasn't really impressed after the first application. But let me tell you, after the second I didn't seem to notice a change so Riki said are you okay with a third application. I said sure why not, Riki already knew her whitening technique hit the roof. Each session was 8 mins with some solution added. Oh my, my teeth went from that dull shade of grey to at least 3 shades brighter. Now that impressed me! Another hygienist and friend, Tammy, who is my usual person who does my cleaning came in as she heard I was doing this whitening thing. She said Dana, you can't pass up the home program kit that comes with this process it will only enhance the whitening even more prior to your second visit. Yes, this less than a grand process includes an additional visit and a home kit. And Riki btw said my teeth whitened so well in this session that I may not need it. But of course I'm coming to my inclusive visit. And I agreed with my friend and she explained to me it only takes 8 minutes not the long drawn out process I was thinking. The kit includes this fancy apparatus like a mouthpiece with a charger you put in your mouth just the same way Riki did during the session but of course way better. So sorry I kind of went on a rant but if you were thinking about whitening your teeth, do it! I was talking to the receptionist for my next appointment and the whole staff had it done. They said they were convinced when they saw Dr. Woo's own husband's results. Dr. Woo's staff and fellow dentists make up a staff of all women. That's been the treat for me coming to this practice. Though it's an office of all women, men are patients too Dr. Woo and especially precious Riki, I can't thank you enough for making me a believer in this procedure and finally giving myself some self-care. I've been a patient of Dr Woo and Dr Balcom dental practice for close to 20 years. It's been a love/barely like relationship. Like all relationships, we've had our ups and downs. I haven't agreed 100% with all of their recommendations. But when it comes to my health care & wellness decisions... I got opinions. Who doesn't!? At times they can be irritatingly pushy when scheduling appointments especially the dental cleanings. I get it, that's a money maker. Overall I feel the majority of staff listen to me and I have been treated respectfully. I get along with them all. I've had several crowns worked on. Great work by the various dentists and hygienists. Everyone has been super nice. The practice is located in midtown. So you guessed it, parking can be challenging. They do have a private parking lot, however the spaces are on the compact side. There are metered street parking spots (parallel parking or slanted), but on a typical work day, empty spots are rare. Several metro bus routes pass along the building or within a few blocks. On my last visit, I went during COVID. My last cleaning was over 15 months ago and I was experiencing tartar build up that irritated me. I was assured the office was taking COVID precautions by having medical grade room purifiers. Face masks are required to be worn by staff and patients, obviously when they aren't being worked on. read more

I was referred to Dr Amy Woo through a friend that had recently had much dental work that was very involved and he raved about the care he received. I had a dental procedure that had came undone and presented a potentially dangerous outcome. The same day I phoned Dr Woo's office they were able to shift their schedule around and stayed late in the afternoon to accommodate me. Dr Amy Woo was able to diagnose what was needed and made calls to arrange for a next day appointment where the dangerous issue was remedied. I have had a few bad experiences with dentists over the years, so I was scared to see a new dentist when I moved to Sacramento. I did a lot of research, and chose to come here because I liked that all the doctors are women. From the moment I walked in everyone was so kind & helpful. I've seen Riki & Dr. Murphy twice now, and both times I've had a great experience. They are both so nice, and actually take the time to explain what they're doing and answer all of my questions. So, I'm new to the area and relied on co-workers to recommend dentists. Dr. Woo was one that was recommended, and the only one accepting new patients. I will say that I walked in with the hopes this would be a good fit, but I don't think it is. As noted with other posts, the waiting room was opulent. Free coffee, snacks, expensive furniture, etc. Despite having finished all of my paperwork in advance of the appointment, I had to wait 25 minutes before being called to the treatment room. The front desk staff was lovely, however. I understand that, as a new patient, I needed x-rays. They didn't want to see my file from my previous dentist, which I felt was a little suspicious. They took extensive x-rays, many of them twice to get a good image. After giving me a solid dose of radiation, I saw the dentist briefly. She seemed nice enough, and definitely told me I had to replace one crown and watch another two that may be wearing through. OK...my previous dentist in the Bay Area didn't identify that at all, but it had been about 10 months since I saw her, so...OK. I chose to believe that. She also did the assessment of my gums ("pockets"), and identified a few "5s" - which I also figured she'd find. I had to wait another 15 minutes in the chair before the hygienist was available. The hygienist was...not that gentle. She seemed to hurry me along and immediately tried to upsell me on a "deep cleaning". My gums and teeth are in pretty good shape. I floss at least once daily, brush at least twice daily, use mouthwash daily and sleep with a nightguard. She also said I need to come in 4x/year for a regular cleaning! WHAAT? Nah. Now I'm starting to feel like this office is a profit center and has to cover too much overhead. I've NEVER had any dentist/hygienist say I needed to come in more than 2x/year...but FOUR TIMES? Every 3 MONTHS? Nah. Classic high-pressure upsell. She said I needed it because of my "5s". Nope. I said my insurance covers 2x/year, so I'll come in 2x/year. So, after I was done, I went up to the front desk to make an appointment for the crown replacement, and was pressured into scheduling another cleaning so I would pay out of pocket. That would mean I'd get my teeth cleaned 3x/year. I made the appointments just to get out of there and get back to work. If you're a new patient, even if you have your paperwork done, schedule about 2 hours for your first appointment. Like I said, I came in neutral, but I left thinking this was a profit centered business. Not a comfortable feeling. read more

I came in for an exam and was talking to Dr. Murphy about how I may need to get braces for a second time to close my gap. She asked, "May I try something ", I said sure! She came back with some bonding material and put it on both my front teeth and asked what I though about it. I was very happy with the way it looked. I made an appointment to have the procedure done, (don't remember official name) and I couldn't be more happy of the results!!! No braces for me. I came to this dental office because my dad goes here and I was too lazy to go somewhere where I would have to fill out all my insurance information myself. When I got here, I was surprised to see it is probably the fanciest dental office I've ever been to. It makes sense because its downtown, though. The waiting room has nice furniture that is comfy, a fireplace, lots of magazines, a puzzle to jump in and work on, and a kids area. I found this to be comforting since I hate the dentist office in general. It made it feel more relaxed. They house periodontists, orthodontists, and standards dentistry work here. That is convenient! I got a cleaning. Before the cleaning, since I was new, they needed x rays which I expected. I didnt expect they would need digital photos of me smiling at different angles. I also didn't expect that my hygienist was such a perfectionist that she took 20 minutes or so to get my x rays done. She would take a photo and express that it was "almost" right, but not good enough. We retook just about every single one. It was frustrating and time consuming. The other piece I wasn't a huge fan of is the way my hygienist spoke about my teeth. Look, I know my teeth aren't pearly white and super straight and needed some love!!!! I get it. However, I found it frustrating that the tone she used when she spoke about them was really condescending. I could tell she was trying very hard to not be rude about her opinions and feelings on what needed to get done to my teeth, but it still was not a friendly or positive way to handle the situation. My dentist was MUCH friendlier about things. She was still honest, but she didn't make me feel stupid or like my teeth were ugly even though she probably felt the same (my teeth really are not that ideal looking, but they are functional and that is all I care about). There was a lot of talk at my initial appointment from everyone who looked at my teeth implying that I must want to see the orthodontist and periodontist about some cosmetic issues, and I really don't care!!! I'm happy as longa as I'm cavity free and my gums are healthy. It was kind of frustrating to be looked at from a cosmetic standpoint because not everyone is looking for stereotypical perfect smiles. Then I went back for FIVE fillings in two appointments. I've never had that many in my life. I expected to need 2 or 3 fillings, but 5 was a little strange. I've had 4 dentists my whole life, and I've never been unhappy with a filling before. It pains me to say it because I LOVED my dentist here. She was so cool. But I've never been this uncomfortable in my life. My teeth are hyper sensitive to temperature changes and it still hurts to eat certain harder foods and it has been about a month now. They always tell you to go back, but I can't really justify going back after not loving it 100% and then having all these problems from the fillings. My teeth weren't in pain or discomfort in the first place before the fillings!!! Overall, I would recommend them for dental cleanings. They did a fine job at that and I was very happy with the results and advice my dentist and hygienist gave. I just am not a fan of my fillings and would not recommend them for that. I will find a different dentist now that my insurance is changing. read more

Candace in the front office was so helpful with contacting my previous dental office and finding a resolution. I'm sorry to say I have to leave this Dr.'s office. I love the receptionists, and dental hygienists who have all taken very good care of me. But the main person I'm there for is the dentist. She's very nice person, but she didn't supply the quality of care I needed. I was away from the dentist for one year when I arrived at this place. I was told I had three really deep cavities. I had never had a bad cavity in my life, but I thought well, okay...I trust that that's what's going on. I got it done in two visits. The cost was doable but afterward I was upset with the work. Two of my teeth were almost cemented together. I could barely get between those two teeth anymore. I needed them to be separated more on my next visit. Then on my top cavity fix, I kept experiencing pain for many months afterward. She said this was normal because of the location of the cavity and how deep of a cavity it was. After all that work got done, I came back for my next cleaning six months later and was told I had another cavity starting. That's when I started getting suspicious. I never had cavity problems in my life, and now all of sudden there's issue after issue with cavities. My gut was telling me to find a second opinion. Well, I'm relieved and sad to report that the second dentist says no cavities! The second dentist says its possible that looking at one set of X-ray's can give that impression but when you combine the two angles, and given my history of healthy teeth, that that's just not the case. I have been to this office several times in the last year and have nothing but great things to say. From the receptionists who are real professional and great at providing quotes and scheduling my next dental appointments and the dental hygienist, assistants and doctors. I've had a deep clean from Riki who is the sweetest and I admire her work. She has been so helpful through the process of my dental work that I have been needing and makes me feel very comfortable going to the dentist and I've always been scared of the dentist. Dr Murphy is great and she has helped put me back on track with my teeth and great at communicating with me after my appts to check up on how my teeth are feeling. These two have great customer service and patient care and highly recommend them! I am very skeptical when it comes to dental work, and trust me, I know dental work. With teeth as soft as crayons and grinding at night I have had almost every tooth worked on. I came here for a diagnosis since one of my crowns was hurting. The sign in staff was super friendly as always, thank you ladies, and the waiting room was comforting instead of impersonal. I was greeted right away by the woman who took my x-rays, and even gave me water for a pill I needed to take at a specific time. She was kind and did not rush which was really nice. The doctor then came in and did some tests on the tooth which was a lot less painful than I thought it would be. I was then quoted for half the amount I originally thought it was going to be since they did not have to replace the crown to do a root canal. SCORE. This is really important to me with such a strict budget! Thank you everyone, I will be calling in a few months to schedule my root canal. It may be unpleasant, but at least I know that in your office it will be the least painful, physically and emotionally! read more

Best dental office ever!! The staff is amazing especially with everything that is going on with covid. They are following all CDC & ADA guidelines making me feel comfortable coming into my appointment. They also have a Periodontal specialist that comes in twice a month who is phenomenal! I had a few extractions with Dr Paydar and had the best experience ever. This office is constantly being sanitized, they do a great job on monitoring/limiting the amount of patients in the waiting room, purifiers in each room, & all staff dressed in PPE making you feel comfortable for you appointment. The only reason we stayed at this dental office is for Denise the hygienist and since she moved to another office there was no reason to stay at this office. They uncomfortably upsell, take tons of unneeded extra X-rays, and most recently when I returned to have them look at a fairly recent implant they did that had literally cracked off at the titanium, was told "you don't really need a molar there, you have others" with no attempt to help me figure out what to do. It was all incredibly not customer service oriented and after being a patient for many years there I felt very discounted. Would not recommend. read more

Um, I love the hygienists...they are professional and friendly. That's what gave them the two stars here. Oh, and the receptionists--efficient and super nice, maybe even saccharine sweet. And I still do think Dr. Crippen is great. I think it more the overarching umbrella of the practice and its integrity is at the heart of the problem. It's a real swank fest over there--complete with video games in the parlor, hot cider, and individualized TV screens above your dental chair. It took me having several procedures done over there that weren't necessary for me to put two and two together (I know, silly me). Who the hell is paying for all of that overhead--you, me and the other sap who is totally being fooled by this practice. I got a crown in January, and still can't even chew on that side. Went in to have them 'adjust' it, and they said, well, sorry, you probably have root/nerve damage now because of us doing the work in there, it happens, you might need a root canal in the future. AND they wanted me to pay for the x-ray when I came in because my tooth hurt. LAME. So, yeah, not going back EVER to this rip-off spa dentist operation. My lovely spouse also went there, was told she had 7 cavities, and needed 2 root canals and 2 crowns. She went elsewhere, took real x-rays (not the electronic kind that they can't see bleep off of) and the dentist said, "Yeah, you only have one cavity. Oh, and the place where your tooth hurts from that last filling at Dr. Woo's place, let me just file it down a bit." Turns out, she can chew just fine now on that side, with NO pain! These jerks--I do miss those hygienists though! Sweethearts they are. read more

I had 3 regular checkups with Dr. Woo in 1999-2000. At each of those check-ups, she identified a new cavity (or as she put it, a "tiny soft spot--not visible by x-ray--that catches when I probe with my tool"). I got each filled in turn, and had an easy, pleasant experience each time. However, in the 23 years before and 12 years after, I've seen about 10 other dentists, and not a single one has found another cavity. I find it highly suspect that she found a new place to fill every time I visited, and that she's the only one who ever did. The work seems fine, and appears to be holding up well so far, but I believe it was unnecessary. This means wasted money for me, but more importantly, because filled teeth are more likely to develop problems than intact ones, I've actually made my mouth less healthy than before I saw Dr. Woo. I would strongly recommend avoiding this office. For more general advice, whenever you see a new dentist who recommends work, *always* get a second opinion before getting it done. read more

Many helpful descions I make for new anything are from 'yelp.com' But, I wanted to be extra careful. Its not like I am looking for a new mexican joint to eat at or a hole in the wall thrift outlet. I am not rolling in the $$ at all, but when it comes to my health, I want the best. When I started going to this office I hadn't been to the dentist in years for preventative dentistry of any type. I had last been to a dentist about 3 years earlier when I had broken a tooth right before Christmas. The office was very nice and clean. Parking around the building was easy and they were prompt and courteous. There are the local transients colonies around that are typical of every downtown/midtown office. I found the magazine selection to be a bit eclectic- unless you own a million dollar yacht, a mansion, or are an architect you probably won't find anything to read in the waiting room. My prior dentist office was at UCD- I could never park anywhere, the waiting room was always packed with obnoxious people, and I felt like I was being run through there on a cattle train. I got into the dental exam chair and was introduced to Dr. Balcom (sp?). She and the hygienist were extremely nice. I ended up needing a filling which I eventually got in the area where I had previously broken a tooth. Everything worked out great in the end. People keep mentioning cost but it seemed like I paid more when I went to UCD. The office staff are pretty smart about scheduling appointments in a manner that doesn't max out my dental plan per year. I would give the place 5 stars but I am yet to have any more serious dental work done- the real test for the place. Most of the complaints I've seen come from root canal/crown work- I've never had either of those done. However my wife had a problem tooth and they advised her she would need a root canal for a molar that was cracked in half. My wife chose to try to put on a crown instead. About a year later she is going back for the root canal they recommended in the first place as she is still having pain. I'm guessing if she had followed there advice to start with this problem would have been solved a year ago. read more

So I finally went back for my cleaning! And I made it through!! It wasn't as bad as I expected ... my gums were in sort of sad shape so they had to do some extra work. The extra work it wasn't exactly pleasant, but Dr. Yee made sure to stop every time I raised my hand and was really good about working with me. I'm not going to go as far as to say I had fun, but in the scheme of dental work, it was as good as it's going to be! The hygienist's name I believe was Terra, and she was a total sweetheart. She listened to me ramble about my freak-out over my wisdom teeth and later in the appt. even handed me a tissue when I totally became a tragic 23 year old crying in the chair (Don't blame me, blame the *really* crappy dentists I went to in the past who scarred me!) read more

I have been a patient here since Dr. Woo bought the practice from my previous dentist. (We won't talk about how long ago that was!) I have always received the best possible care from her and from Dr. Balcom. The hygenists are just wonderful--how many people do you trust to poke around in your mouth with sharp, metal things! (Thanks Patty!) The receptionists are friendly and competent. Sue has been there for many years and there is nothing she doesn't know. I have read other reviews and I find them baffling. I have never seen anything like the unethical behavior they describe. Everyone at the practice has always treated me well. I had my first cavity in over a decade just recently. (I hate flossing--but please don't tell Patty). No one has ever suggested a procedure I thought was iffy or unnecessary. I cannot praise ths practice enough. read more

I've seen Dr.Balcolm and Dr.Yee. Everyone there I have interacted with is helpful and knowledgeable. They do a really good job cleaning and checking. Their cleaning appointments are scheduled out long, they said because some people have more plaque than others, and removing it sometimes takes more than an hour! I had never heard of a dentist being so complete before. One of my friends went and had numbing gel put on her gums to make it more comfortable. Also, staff will not only call with reminders, but they will often call a week or so in advance to see if you would prefer a sooner time. Typically I don't because my schedule is to tight, but I appreciate that kind of service in case I have a free moment at the last minute. Their newly renovated office is gorgeous, and makes it seem like an ultra-fancy place to have your dentistry done. They have state of the art equipment. They even have flat screen TV with basic cable on the ceiling that you can watch with headphones when you are laying back!! But its covered by my insurance, so its not more expensive to me than an older, less attractive place. This is where the staff is so helpful--when I want to know if I can get procedures done and how much is covered, the girls up front know right away! parking in a private lot around the back--always been room. I've recommended it to multiple friends. I also like it because they have a good number of female dentists there, which I hadn't had before. read more

I was tired of creepy dentists and dentist offices. One time I asked my dentist how he was. He said his mom had died the day before and asked me to open my mouth. Kreeee-peeee! So I decided that any dentist to have a solid following on Yelp and a website would be worth checking out since it meant 1) they were likely in the neighborhood of my generation, and 2) they cared about how they were perceived. This place saved me from incredible pain. Your teeth are an investment. I don't care what people say about the overhead--sure, it's more expensive, but this is the first place that has fixed my dental problems. EVER. Not only that, but my teeth LOOK a lot better (and no, I haven't done whitening nor has it ever been pushed on me). This is also the first dentist office where I feel like they truly listen to you. They let me look at anything on my record or my x-rays, they take a lot of time to answer all of my questions, they have even worked around some of my fears or dislikes. I'm not going to single anyone out because all the staff members, from front desk to dentist to specialists, are wonderful. p.s. Wow. This place is awesome. I have never felt so pampered and welcome in a dental office before. I called last Thursday and was given an appointment the next day (I think there was a cancellation which is why they could get me in so quickly). When I walked in I thought I was walking into a Beverly Hills Spa. Everyone here is so friendly, and the office is beautiful! The waiting area is amazing, and if you have kids, they have a great little nook with video games and an amazing aquarium for kiddies to hang out in. I was greeted by the dental hygienist that did my x-ray's. She first gave me a tour of the office (very impressive) and then took me to the exam room. They have TVs on the ceiling so you can put headphones on and watch TV while they are working on your teeth - so I got to watch CNN the whole time! After the hygienist took care of me (she was great but I don't remember her name) Dr. Yee came in and did my cleaning. She was really great and took time to explain everything she was doing. She also gave me some tips for how to keep my teeth healthy. All in all, it was very informative. I recommend this office to everyone. read more

I went to the Amy Woo Dental practice for extreme pain which ended up requiring a root canal and crown. They were wonderful to work with. Very accommodating to schedule my appointments quickly and very nice. They explained everything that was going on along the way and gave me options. I'm new to the area and certainly a patient here for good now. I would absolutely recommend them. read more

There are two characteristics of this practice that distinguish it from any other dentist I've ever been to: 1) the lavishness of the facility, and 2) the obvious source of money for this lavishness - you and me! I refer to both the office and the practice as "The Palace of Dr. Woo." When I moved to Sacramento four years ago I chose Dr. Woo mostly for her proximity to my home and her impressive digs which were expanded even more lavishly shortly afterward. It was and I imagine still is an all-female practice with everyone wearing matching uni's and Oh-So-Nice. The niceness, which had a robotic feel to it, put me on alert as well. I felt I was being set up, especially as a male. The nice term for Dr. Woo's dental treatment is "aggressive." The more accurate description is "recommending expensive work that doesn't really have to be done." Although I had been under the care of various dentists in places I had lived for almost 30 straight years it seems that Dr. Woo saw all sorts of problems never mentioned by these other doctors. The one that really got me was the alleged "hole in your crown" where she showed me the "hole" on the overhead screen as if I could read such images. I ended up getting a second opinion which discounted virtually everything she was recommending and which found no hole. I had not told this second dentist what Dr. Woo had found until his exam was completed. Then I told him about the hole and asked him to check again - still no hole. I never saw Dr. Woo again. I would give Dr. Woo five stars if you could just sit in her office and read on a hot day. But you can only sit there if you have an appointment, which will cost you about a million dollars. read more
