Always wanted to check out Amy Ruth's, and no better time than when you are starving! Upon entering the location, loved the atmosphere. The music, art on the wall, the warm friendly, inviting atmosphere, and the service was hands down the best. Sharmaine is wonderful, knows the menu, answered my questions, very friendly service, that makes you feel welcome. This location is more of a take out spot, but there is ample seating. The food is prepared fresh, served hot, with generous portions. The restaurant prices are fair considering the large portion sizes. My food was generous enough for two meals. When I say fresh, I mean freshly cooked. The food is not salty, or overly sweet, perfect balance. Each dish is named after a famous celebrity entertainer. The honey friend chicken brought me back to the good old days of the Shark Bar, and my Grandmother's kitchen! Have not seen Kool Aid on a menu in ages, definitely a Southern thing, because my Grandmother's both were from the South and Kool Aid was a staple whenever we went to visit. The baked mac & cheese definitely takes you back in time, it was delicious, absolutely perfect! They did not miss a beat with the taste, everything was perfect. My friend got the rib's, mashed sweet potatoes, and green beans. Both of our meals were delicious. Tip: Discounts are given to City/Government employees, and College students must show ID

Well now yes I am so thankful Ms Ruth came to my parts of Manhattan. The staff are kind and helpful and I love the decor inside just giving you power and strength I love the significance in the menu names because I just love greatness in African American culture. The flavors in the Obama meal I had made me have to sit down and properly put my paper napkin on my lap and eat the food slow to enjoy every bite. This is a place that will have you catering to your house just to impress the in laws. I loved it and will be back to try everything on their menu.

This is a casual location and that means no public restroom. We arrived hungry and parched. I ordered the Catfish meal after initially ordering the Catfish sandwich which included fries. The meal provided a choice of two sides. I opted for macaroni & cheese and collard greens. The quantity was sufficient to fill my belly and leave some for lunch on the next day. The cashier presented the food/beverages at our table. I was pleasantly pleased with the taste of everything.

So when I heard that my favorite uptown soul food restaurant ( Sleep in Peace Carl Redding) had finally opened a downtown location, I had to try it out! I went on a Wednesday ight and ordered to go. The staff was super nice and my food was ready within five minutes. I ordered the bbq pork ribs dinner with Mac n cheese and candied yams. As soon as I smelled the bbq sauce my mouth was already watering. And the food did not disappoint! Now if you are looking for traditional, overly seasoned and high caloric food to make your arteries cringe, THIS AINT IT! The yams were very light and naturally sweet. And the brick sized portion of Mac n cheese was delightful filling and tasty. The ribs were a good portion( about 4-5 pieces with a lot of sauce- which is how I like it ) The meal came with a big piece of cornbread that was very fluffy and had enough honey on it that I didn't use any butter. I also saved half the cornbread for my breakfast the next day. And speaking of the next day- I had enough leftovers for lunch! Now price wise- keep in mind that Union Square rents are not cheap. So the food was a little expensive. But I had leftovers so it's all good. I know Carl would be proud

I was in hanging out in the area and to my surprise this location was recently opened. I've been to the one in Harlem. And this place will become a gem. It's in a great location and management & staff were super friendly! I had the catfish sandwich with fries and their Kool-Aid of the Day, which was grape, my fave! Catfish was nice and crispy like I asked for. I wanna come back to try their desserts

Reservations open 2 weeks in advance around 10am and they go super fest so I recommend you try for the day you need as for me I could only have gotten brunch on a Sunday. Those people spam the crap out of their buttons for the dinner spots and when I went I can see why. The place is brimming with old school New York charm and it's completely overwhelmingly beautiful and has an old jazzy vibe to it. It's large and spacious and they sat us in the middle of the entire restaurant. (I had a group of 6) The vibe was so good you don't really want to leave and they also don't really kick you out. I think we were the last ones to exit for brunch but they were so nice they didn't kick us out. Their espresso martinis are ok. It wasn't as amazing as a regular cocktail bar but it is just ok. We started off with a shrimp cocktail, smoked whitefish Caesar salad and the two plates of truffle monkey bread which was soooo good. I really enjoyed this as it's the main reason we came here. It's almost like a honey dinner roll with truffle. We got everything next which some people got their own and some shared. Some people got their own American breakfast platter which was some overdone eggs and a meat with gigantic toast and if you only order scrambled eggs it comes in a bowl but I would much rather order their classics like steak sandwich and the spicy shrimp was pretty good! Fries are top tier! I can see why people just come here for dinner. I would give it mostly 5 stars for the overall ambiance and environment and a few classics. I think their old fashioned is better than their espresso martinis though even though it looks so good in this type of setting! It's hard to get a reservation though so next time I'll need to try some new things if I score another!

Decor/actual restaurant: This particular location is very small and tight with limited in-store seating. The interior is cute, I like the blue color theme they have here. For a restaurant designed for to-go orders, I believe that there could be more waiting room and a couple less chairs. Service: Like many "fast food adjacent" restaurants, the people who work there have good customer service but I imagine deal with the worst. I know they're doing great with the situation they're in. Kudos to them. Food: this is probably my harshest critique. I ordered a pesto chicken sandwich, and it was fine. I don't believe it was worth the $16 I spent though. The chicken was kind of bland, tasted similarly to frozen grilled chicken pieces you buy from a grocery store. I do wish there was more sauce. The pesto tasted good but overall there was too much bread. I fear you would be better off making something like this at home for a comparable price. The bread was good, just too much. I don't want to base the menu on this sandwich alone, a lot of the menu options sounded delicious, but this was just the experience I had!

When I entered its bright, spacious and nicely decorated premises, I was greeted right away by a staff, who most patiently explained all their food items and the process of ordering, answered my questions, and offered great suggestions. Everything on display was a feast for the eye and and enhancement for one's appetite. I chose the combo meal of half Longevity Bowl (I really wanted to try their Falafel!) and soup of the day (tomato soup). Everything comes with a pile of add-ons. I don't remember them all, but whatever they suggested and gave me, the combination tasted just awesome! The soup was thick in texture, rich in flavour, crunchy with the chopped nuts and seeds, and piping hot. Every bite of the Longevity Bowl was surprisingly delightful. I wasn't super hungry but somehow devoured everything as if starved. I didn't feel stuffed afterwards, just totally satisfied, but the actual "fullness" lasted much longer than I expected. Such is the magic of life-enriching organic produce. Upon departure, I was handed a card, which records one's visits, and after 5 visits, one gets a free bowl!
