Ya I should have read the reviews before coming in. [[HIGHLIGHT]]First of all super loud and when trying to place your order to ask you have to ask and ask them again because the music was so loud you weee shouting through a a glass door.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] And they seemed annoyed as it was your fault that their music was loud verse turning it down. I just pointed and hoped for the best because I just wanted something since we couldn't communicate. The food was okay. I would deff recommend another place . I have had better. They ran out of jerk chicken . I got the bbq from what I could taste when I got it . Super bbq on the rice . But sun it was cheap so I guess you get what you pay for

Was craving jerk chicken and it seemed most of the reviews focused on the service instead, so tried it out. But now I see why this place has 3 stars - the chicken was super dry and the rice/beans (as mentioned in other reviews) had uncooked/burnt bits mixed within. It was cheap though - I'll give them that.

So What's the first thing I'm gonna do after getting home to New York City at 1 AM in the morning I'm order from this place. Now the thing is. This restaurant was something else before it was a different Jamaican restaurant. I'm accustomed to the 24 hour spot on 135th St. when I DoorDash it I thought that's where I was ordering from.. but you live and you learn. The rice and peas was good. The brown soup chicken nice flavor slightly sweet as it should be nice gravy curry goat didn't look like curry. It should look Jamaican. Curry is yellow yellowish green but this was more orange orange reddish. It had a lot of bones. It was tender it was seasoned, it just didn't look like it should typically from a Jamaican spot. overall I enjoyed it. It definitely could've been worse and it could've been better but it was just right and he hit the spot. The mac & cheese was aight. Jamaicans arent really known for mac & cheese. So I'm not gonna hold him to the standards of southern mac & cheese.

Small business selling to-go dishes out of a window (basically). This place is a STAPLE in the neighborhood for a reason. While the Mac and cheese may be dry or they mess up orders from time to time -- we keep going back bc those oxtails are something else!!! Large plate of oxtails is about $20 and they are soooo meaty and tender and flavorful!!

Decent food for the price point . They have a pretty good spread available and the customer service was good . I would definitely pop back in to try something else . All this for food for $6 is insane ! Please support this business if you're in the area . happy eating

Oxtail, Cabbage and rice and peas , this is a lot (mostly rice) for 21 dollars

Idk what change since the last time I was there but I had some curry chicken , white rice and cabbage ... DISGUSTING !!! The curry chicken wasn't even curry (it did not taste like it) the rice was mushy and the cabbage was a dark color and very over cooked. This place use to be called little people and the food was good back then ... This is the second king barka I been to and the food was bad ... IF YALL IN HARLEM JUST GO TO JERK HOUSE .. These 6 dollars plate are not worth it at all , those 6 dollars plate don't get made out of love.

King Barka is a Jamaican takeout spot on Frederick Douglass between 145 and 146. It is one of my favorite spots I like to hit when I am back in NYC visiting my Mom. To be clear, this is a no-frills take-out joint. My favorite is the Oxtails and Pasta. The flavor is amazing. I have also had their rice & peas which were good also. They give big portions so you will definitely have some leftovers or enough to share. This is not one of those spots that you would go out of your way for but if you are local it's definitely worth it.

The restaurant was packed, so we waited about 10 to 15 minutes, even with a reservation. Thankfully, it was a beautiful day. Once seated, we ordered a few drinks. My Strawberry Basil Lemonade was refreshing and their Virgin Pina Colada with Strawberry was perfect. Our waitress, Queen, recommended a few items, and they were a hit. The Coconut Shrimp were crispy and flavorful, and the sweet chili dipping sauce complemented them well. I was nervous that the Jerk Chicken was going to be too salty, but the seasoning was outstanding. The spice level was fine, not too spicy at all. And the Coconut Rice & Peas were great. I'd happily return and recommend this spot to family and friends.

There were only 2 other parties seated and we were seated immediately upon arrival. It's fairly dark inside and the decor reminds me a bit of New Orleans. I enjoyed the ambiance. The drinks were great! I had the cocobella while he had margaritas. The table bread was hot and fresh, so make sure they bring it to the table for you. We had the mussels for an appetizer, lamb chops and bass. EVERYTHING was excellent! The flavor of the broth for the mussels was Devine, so much so my husband used his bread to sop up all he could. The bass had great flavor and came with sautéed spinach that was well cooked. It initially looked like a small portion but turned out to be plenty. The lamb chops were cooked to the requested temp and seasoned well. We left no crumbs. This one is definitely worth a try!

Walked into Margon Restaurant in Midtown and instantly felt like I found one of NYC's secret cheat codes. Small space, big flavors, zero nonsense. The kind of place where you're elbow-to-elbow with strangers but everyone's united by one thing... serious hunger. Ordered the Cuban sandwich -- pressed, crispy, loaded with roast pork, glazed ham, Swiss, pickles, and mustard. One bite in and I stopped talking... which never happens. This thing didn't just deliver... it showed up early and over-prepared. Then came La Bandera Dominicana Braised beef swimming in savory gravy, yellow rice piled like a mountain, black beans doing their thing, and sweet maduros sitting on top like the victory flag. Simple. Comforting. Dangerous... because now I want it every week. Place gets busy, gets loud, gets chaotic... but it moves like a well-oiled machine. Years of experience and zero attitude. Just good people making great food. In a neighborhood full of tourist traps, this hole-in-the-wall is throwing haymakers. Sometimes the best escape in NYC isn't a rooftop... It's a Cuban sandwich and a plastic tray. And honestly... I'd pick that every time. #nycfood #hiddennyc #midtowneats
