Service was fantastic. Foodmet expectations but did not exceed them. I ordered the shrimp and chips. Small portion. Together the shrimp and the French fries just filled what would be considered a container for large order of fries at a burger restaurant. Price was reasonable but then again portion was very small. To be satisfied I think I would have had to order at least another side. What stands out at this establishment is the premier service. The lady behind the counter could not have been more friendly and helpful. Also not impressed by the condiments. Ketchup and tartar sauce were standard fast food restaurant variety. I would have expected some homemade tartar sauce or cocktail sauce. The ambience is the DeKalb food court. Plenty of speeding. All in all I love that venue. read more

Decided to swing back to the Dekalb Market Hall and head over to Harlem Seafood Soul vendor and try out the food itself, is prolly hit or miss. The guy ahead of me ordered a 3 fish combo and wasn't too satisfied with his fish. My Po'Boy on the other hand was tasty, Mac and Cheese was pretty decent and the lemonade Iced Tea quenched my thirst well. I just don't think it warrants the $28 price tag though. I've ordered slightly more from places like Shake Shack for slightly less. I get it, it's a vendor in Brooklyn so it's gonna run some cash but I believe my order would've been more satisfactory if it were closer to $20 but that's just me. I was disappointed with the service and food I received at Harlem Seafood and Soul. When I arrived there was no one to greet me and take my order at the counter. There were staff members just sitting on the bar stools on their phones before someone acknowledged me. When I finally got my food I was underwhelmed. The fish is fried to order but it was dry and lacked seasoning. The grits weren't cooked long enough. It was very gritty and the texture seemed off. Will likely not return again. read more

During a recent visit to New York, my sister-in-law brought my husband and me to this restaurant located at the food court at the mall downtown on Flatbush Ave. (333 Flatbush Ave). Unfortunately, the experience was both disappointing and upsetting. Right from the start, she commented publicly that my husband "ordered the cheapest thing on the menu," which was not only unnecessary but embarrassing. Our bill came to $43.00, and we gave a $7.00 tip. All upfront before what happened next. Things quickly went downhill from there. She began making inappropriate and offensive remarks about how to "ask for ketchup as a Black person," corrected my English in a condescending tone (despite her own use of Ebonics and profanity and around children), and treated us with growing hostility. I wanted to leave but had to wait for our order: catfish nuggets, two whiting wraps, and bottled water. When I asked for condiments, she responded rudely and aggressively, stating that ketchup costs $1.25 per packet, implying that I wouldn't want it, and that if I got ketchup, I wouldn't get tartar sauce. This level of hostility over something as simple as condiments was unnecessary and unprofessional. The food itself was no better. The catfish and fries were overcooked and heavily salted. The overall atmosphere was uncomfortable due to her use of excessive profanity and a complete lack of customer service. Despite our continued politeness, we were met with disrespect. My $50 felt wasted, and I've since warned friends and family in New York to avoid this place. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was unacceptable. read more

They don't play around here!! I ordered their shrimp and chips and the shrimp was perfectly breaded and seasoned. I added some hot sauce which complemented everything quite nicely. My friend got the fish (soft, flaky, and also with light breading) and grits and let me try some. The grits were soft and made me feel warm and cozy. I for sure want to try their sides like collard greens and fried mac 'n cheese balls. Immediately upon sitting down, I felt like I was joining my family to for dinner and my auntie was preparing the food. Chef Tami and crew are great with customers!! I was even able to sample the cornbread and it literally taste like cake! I ordered the fish wrap, greens and turkey and, an Arnold Palmer. I was a little underwhelmed with size of the wrap but, overall it was ok. I will probably order something different next time I visit; like the grits. I'm taking stars off due to the taste of the greens and the fact that the counter stained my clothing red from the paint. I wish it would have been warning or knowledge that the paint was not properly dried or set. I've walked by this stall a few times on my way to other shops inside Dekalb Market and have always been drawn by the lovely scents. Finally sat down recently to order the Uptown Special, which included fried fish, fries, and jumbo shrimp. Even though it was past 8:30, the chef made it fresh, and the fish/shrimp were perfectly flaky/crunchy and not too greasy. Great portions too. I went ahead and got a side of Collard greens and a fish wrap, the fish wrap is honestly the most affordable meal on the menu, like other reviews I did notice I was charged a dollar more than what was advertised on the menu, the food came out concerningly fast although typically sides are premade usually fried fish is freshly fried, she will also ask you spicy or original the only difference is that they put siracha on the spicy I thought this was a little strange because Sriracha isn't soul food the wrap also had salsa which was again weird because this is supposed to be a soul food stand? I would expect for spicy that would mean it has a spicy batter that it's fried in + traditional Southern hot sauce. Upon receiving unfortunately I could smell the fishiness of the fish which means it wasn't fresh + the fish was chewy and dried out in some spots like it's been reheated or sitting out in a warmer for hours, the collards needed some salt, hot sauce and a little bit of vinegar to dress it up otherwise it was a bit bland/needed more flavor. I would love for this stand to do well but for the price point it's a little disappointing to receive fish that isn't fresh + pre-cooked and greens that needed more flavor. Stumbled upon this gem while in the neighborhood to check out Artists and Flea nearby and got hungry. The counter is located on the right in the middle of the Williamsburg Market which has several eateries. Unclear about what to eat we walked around for a while and settled on this spot based on the reviews. It's a clean, well curated space with chill vibes. I ordered the shrimp po boy and my cousin had the catfish. Service was quite efficient and the food came out about 15 mins later, fresh cooked with loads of flavor bubbling in your mouth and belly. As someone who doesn't need the extra flavor in grits, I appreciate Harlem Seafood Soul's take on grits. All I need is butter. Luckily, upon request you can have some of their flavorful liquid gold: garlic butter. If you order the shrimp and grits, there is no need to ask for butter because it will be all up in there. I went here for lunch as I was visiting from out of town to the spot that's in DeKalb market. The owner was there and she was working behind the counter. She is the nicest woman and had me laughing the entire time I was there. Her entire staff was kind and welcoming. She took my order and my food was made fresh to order. I got the uptown combo which comes with fried fish, fried shrimp, and french fries as well as a Harlem half-and-half. The fish and shrimp were seasoned to perfection an extra crispy. The fries are also fresh and tasted very good. She has countertop seating, as well as a few tables around her stall. I chose to sit at the countertop seating. The food wasn't disgusting; however, I am throughly disappointed. I won't be back. I got the Uptown Combo, fried fish & shrimp. I literally asked her if the fish had bones, to which she said no, but it did have bones. The shrimp was fried, although I asked for the sauté style shrimp from the grits, but she told be no substitutions. I don't like fried shrimp like that, but I relented because I had no choice; it was not good. It wasn't even fried like that. It was like a soft fried, I've never seen that before. Then I had to pay additionally for corn bread, which should be apart of the meal. The cornbread cost $2 but wasn't fresh; it was hard. It was supposed to be honey, but tasted more like vanilla cake. I don't understand why I got meal, but had to pay for cornbread. Charles' Pan-Fried gives you cornbread with all their meals. Then I got a extra side of greens for $6, which was excessive charge for the small amount you got. I asked him not to put all the collard greens juice in the jar because they love giving you more juice then greens lol. The greens were nasty as hell, they legit had no seasoning on the greens or the turkey meat in the greens. I am just so disappointed. The best thing about this meal was the fries, and they weren't even all that good, because they got too saggy from them putting the fish on top of them. The customer service was horrible and the male cashier did something so unsanitary I requested a refund immediately. The cashier would not even take the orders because she had not been paid( I know because the male cashier was there discussing it on speaker on the phone next to me). Additionally, after ringing up me and 2 other customers touching money and other things, he picked up my 2 pieces of fish with his bare hands and put it on the tray. He was not apologetic about it when confronted and didn't want to give me my $34.73 back. Dropped in for a late lunch to Dekalb market hall and decided to eat in! Ordered fish and chips as I had been craving some delicious crispy fish and fries. The two cooks were friendly and kind and were more than happy to direct me to the menu, make recommendations on dishes, and just generally hype up the other restaurants in the dining hall. On this aspect, I would say the service was top notch. Food wise I got three filets which were enough food but for someone larger than me or someone hungrier than me, it might not be enough. They had decent flavor but because I had taken them back to my apartment, they weren't quite as crispy and delicious as I'd want. That's definitely more on me though. So why only 3 stars? While the walk from Dekalb Market to my house is about 7 minutes total, I didn't expect the food to get that soggy that fast. When I tell you I am a sucker for all these food halls that I have found in various cities. It's like an indoor food truck set up and you can try as many places as you like, wander around like Templeton from Charlotte's Web. After a day of walking around the city, we stumbled into Dekalb Market and upon Harlem Seafood Soul. I ordered the friend chicken with Mac & cheese and candied yams. My friend ordered the cat fish w/ fries. Both were really good and nicely seasoned. The staff was friendly and Tammy was there taking photos and talking to guests. I first came to experience Harlem Seafood Soul at Culture Con. Out of all the food trucks there this seafood joint stuck out the most. The owner was right in there cooking the food and helping to take orders, so I knew it had to be something special. It's something that makes you want to support and try something new when you see an entrepreneur working hard to bring there dream to life. The line was long and she was meeting her demand too. Everything was being made to order so your food was nice and hot when you got it. I ordered the Uptown Combo! 2- White Fish, 6- jumbo shrimp and well seasoned and hot fries. Dynamite is an understatement to say the least, when describing the taste. I remembered it being served in a funnel like cone. With the fish and shrimp on top and fries on the bottom. This was the perfect method for the occasion too, with no real place to sit down and enjoy lunch at Culture Con. So as you walked you could grab bites of the fish and shrimp with your fingers and still get to the fries, as you worked your way through the meal. The owner is a sweet dear lady. She makes you wanna jump in and help meet the demands she creates with her food, but the food truck is only so big, and they can only fit two people at a time, LOL. You can feel her passion about her food and see that she really loves to cook each meal special making sure it's properly seasoned and perfectly prepared. And she speaks to every customer too, so endearing. I said to myself that I would have to make a trip to Harlem to go back to her since it really made my day, the food and the experience. But little did I know, I happen to stumble upon a link yesterday online and I saw that it was a Harlem Seafood Soul in a food center right around my corner from my apartment . I selected the picture and see it's her. I quickly decided that would be my lunch spot for the day. And I go and order, first her little pop up is decorated with so much Christmas Cheer it's amazing. Sadly, she, the owner wasn't there but it was another sweet lady who prepared my food and another worker. Both polite, and the kitchen was so clean. It only took about 8-11 minutes to get my food. I didn't dine in, but I swiftly walked home and the food was still hot and once again just as delicious and flavorful as the first time. I'm definitely loyal and devoted customer now. Try this place and see for yourself. It's so much option! The macaroni bites and Po'Boy is next on my Taste List and the sweet tea. I went there from The Bronx with my lady after seeing them on Instagram, trying to support their business as odd as it was (a restaurant named "Harlem" located in Brooklyn). There was a white gentleman at the cash register taking orders and a Black man cooking the food. They 'directed us to the menu illuminated on the wall' from which I placed my order. The bill came up to $73.00 and change, they gave me the receipt, and I was told there would be a 10-minute wait for the macaroni & cheese to be ready. While waiting, a few other people came to place orders. During this time I looked at my receipt and noticed that literally EVERYTHING I ordered was rung up $1 - $2 more than the price listed on the menu, raising my bill up $6 more than what it would have been. When you add that $6 plus the $7 tax - I was paying an additional $13 for my order. Rather than get loud and mess up their business, I figured I'd bring it to the attention of the cook - on the low. The cook came to the side door and I showed him the receipt and how everything was up charged, and he said "Oh, I think 'she' (the owner), raised the price in the system and didn't change the menu on the wall yet." He then added, "you can come back tomorrow and see if she can deal with that". I told him - I'm from The Bronx and I'm not trying to come all the way back down here to resolve what you can fix now. His reply: "Well, I'm sorry, I can't do nothing about it right now". I'm usually one to fight and argue my position when I'm right, but I had my lady with me, and I didn't want to spoil the evening - but mannnnn I was PISSED. To think, they're probably running that scam all day and counting their extra 'take home loot' at the end of the day. *** B U Y E R B E W A R E *** If you're going to dine there, pay attention to your receipt and make sure the charges match the price on the menu. This most recent time I came on a Sunday morning after the gym looking for a good southern breakfast....Fish and Grits! Well I was not disappointed. I ordered the uptown combo w/ grits instead of fries! You get two healthy filets of whiting, 6 med/large shrimp and a container of grits! It was enough food that I only ate half and was satisfied. Now the grits aren't your normal southern grits, they put a twist on them.... She covers them in a rosemary/garlic butter. It's unique but oh so tasty!
