Amy's is just a happy place. Visited two times during my recent trip to NYC and always came in tired, moody, or grumpy and exited in the best of moods! The coffee is delicious; didn't go fancy and just had a latte and a regular coffee with cream/sugar and both were wonderful. Tried the chocolate croissants and cupcakes; both are buttery and lovely. Staff is super friendly and the prices are very reasonable considering how high the quality is of the products. Love this place... can't wait to get back to the city to visit again! read more

Maybe I got the wrong thing? While waiting for some friends to go to the Highline, I walked into Chelsea Market looking for a snack. They had a pretty long line, so that had to be the sign of something good, right? The ordering process can be a bit confusing, since they'll just randomly ask from behind the counter. I had originally asked for a ham and cheese on a croissant, only to be told that they ran out. That's fine. But no need to give me an attitude for not knowing! Instead, I opted for the French ham and butter. I wish I had more time to explore my options, but I was being rushed. My sandwich was so disappointing. It was really just bread, butter, ham and some pickles (not my cup of tea. I could've sworn one of the pickles had an ice chip on it - how?!) I can understand that some places can get by with a simple menu if they have fresh ingredients, but not this place. The butter was cold and unevenly distributed. The bread was hard to bite into, and there were quite a few air pockets in there that left me with just the crust. I ordered a latte with almond milk from this place. Cashier took the order with no problem even wrote "almond latte" on the cup, instead I got a cappuccino (no problem, whatever) except it was with cows milk, which caused me to have an upset stomach. There's a reason I asked for almond milk! When I first got the "latte" I took a sip and did not taste almond milk. I drink almond milk daily so I know the taste. I then asked the barista to confirm it was almond milk. She replied with, yes that's made with almond milk. After drinking half the coffee, i ended up with an upset stomach for the rest of the day. Totally ruined my day. Pretty frustrated that I was lied to. I am the customer that paid for it, you should make it the way I requested it and not how you want it. Came here around dinner time once and it was completely empty. Place is pretty cool as all the bread is baked on site. This means that you the the freshest loaves in town. They have a large selection of flavors, and the staff on hand are meticulous when it comes to letting you know how to keep bread fresh after your purchase. I ordered the Tuscan Sandwich and it was lovely. Layers of salami, prosciutto, and cheese on the amazing white loaf made me feel like I was in food heaven. This is a review based in their potato baguette. Went in with some friends right around the time they were about to close so the selection wasn't plentiful. I opted to try the potato one because carb upon carb-- I was up for the challenge. Smh at why the price was $4.75 but thought, well 1) location 2) touristy 3) Amy's so this better be worth it. Well the 4 of us "broke bread" literally outside the store and the bread was just this amazing deliciousness. Rye on the outside (a nice surprise, would've been a bit annoyed if not a rye fan as it wasn't mentioned at all when purchasing so be forewarned) and nice soft chewy bites of potato filling inside. Not to mention, there was a hint of a peppery aftertaste I definitely enjoyed. It was definitely yummy and still soft and edible the next day! I had already decided that I wanted a ham & cheese biscuit sandwich, but when I queried if they had any biscuit sandwiches they only offered me a cheese or country biscuit. I went for the country biscuit. It was cold, I was kind of hoping to have it warm with some cream cheese. It was relatively tasteless and only made better with the side of cream cheese. When we arrived in the city on Thursday we planned to go to Chelsea Market scoop it out and pick one of the places inside for lunch. We decided on Amy's Bread. THANK HEAVENS. The fact that they were pre made is the only reason I am not giving this place 5 stars. I had the cheddar biscuit with ham and my husband had the sandwich made with Cibatta bread. I believe it had ham, cheese and mayo on it. Now, as I mentioned previously, they are pre-made. But if you eat there as we did they grilled these babies up for us so they were hot and crunchy and chewy goodness. As a Southerner who makes biscuits from scratch every week I am looking for a specific type of biscuit. Crunchy. Soft. Risen. Flavorful. My biscuit had all of those things. In addition to the sharp cheese it was a masterpiece for my mouth. The staff was very helpful and friendly and our overall experience was great. Located inside Chelsea market - one of the first bakeries you see on the left when you enter. There's not a lot of Seating (only 8 stools along the windowsill) There are lots of baked goods however i did not get the opportunity to try them because everyone was super rushed. I totally understand that it was a cold and busy day but it was so chaotic... And the barista and cashier weren't the most friendly... It also took such a long time to get our coffee. The coffee also tasted super burnt (2/5) but it was warm which is what we needed in 1 degree weather. The interior is really cute and home-y just not sure if it's worth spending money on an average cup of coffee. read more

I wasnt too impressed. I think the one in the west village was more interesting and had more varieties. I was a bit disappointed with the red velvet cake. Aside from the huge frosting, it wasnt as good as I expected it to be. However, it did gain points with the flavor not being too overly sweet. Best bread shop ever!!! Every loaf I've had here has been phenomenal. I'm a big fan of savory loaves and they are always nice crusty loaves with super soft, chewy insides. So good!!!!! One negative, they don't slice bread for you though, so you have to do it at home. I always buy a loaf and freeze half after slicing it. Toast up a slice when you need it, and it's soft and good as new. I must admit, their service is always consistently slow. It's because their system is inefficient, and usually the employees never seem to have any sense of urgency either. Chocolate twists. It's all you need, with a cup of iced coffee. When I used to work inside Chelsea Market, I think I had a chocolate twist (or two) almost every morning. Probably not the healthiest, but oh man, this bakery has some of the best bread I've tasted. I've had a little bit of everything, and I always come here when I need a good baguette or biscuits. Their country biscuits are so tasty! My former company used to order cakes from here all the time and they are all super delicious and so moist and soft. The staff is very friendly too. Not hard to find and line goes pretty fast. Can be kind of crowded sometimes especially in the afternoon. Decent bread but nothing too special. I had to get just one dinner roll instead of the 6 because it's for a class assignment...the lady working there handed the roll to the man cashier while whisper how much she hate when people just get one and not everything...kind of rude and if it wasn't for the class I don't think I'd have tried it and definitely not going back. read more

One day my brother brings home a loaf of bread that someone gave him. It was no ordinary load of bread, it was a baguette. I've been searching for baguettes like the ones in Paris, but it has been so long that I have forgotten how they tasted. I took a chunk of my brother's bread and WOW. She has a location right by my apartment in HK, one in the West Village where I go to school, and this one in Chelsea Market where I work. I think it's safe to say, that it is only fate. On that note, it's probably superfluous for me to gush about this particular location because I obviously love all their goodies. However, one thing does set this location apart from the others. All of the breads are baked here! That's right, Amy's Bread bakes all of the bread for their three locations inside this huge storefront (as well as breads for other retailers). So you know what that means... come here for the freshest bread! P.S. I absolutely love the seasonal pumpkin knot they carry right now. You can buy it by the big round loaf, or by the wedge for just $2. It's something between a challah and pull-apart pumpkin bread, wonderfully spiced and studded with walnuts. read more
