I think this location has the friendliest staff. The AM line moves quickly. Their prices are fair, and they have a great selection. For $3.00, you can get a cup of coffee, and one of their bread sticks. I like the Chocoholic, Sourdough Chocolate, and Cinnamon Raisin. I've tried their RV CC, and I've always been satisfied. I've noticed, they do not always have the RVCC. I guess, they run out quickly. They usually always have cake slices, though. They give generous portions of cake. We stopped in while at Chelsea Market. They were unfortunately out of their famous Sticky Buns. We opted for a couple slices of their old fashioned looking cakes on the counter. When I asked the girl behind the counter if they were good, she rolled her eyes and had a very honest reaction. So I ordered two pieces based on her recommendations. We ordered: YELLOW CAKE W/PINK FROSTING--This was a good piece of cake. We all liked it. Good flavor, super moist and had that addictive thing about it. You always needed another bite. CHOCOLATE W/WHITE ICING--Super good. Loved this cake. This is how chocolate cake is supposed to be. Definitely recommended. Their breads looked really good. Everything was just okay. It is the kind of place where if you want a quick bite to go, amys is perfect. I got the monday's bread which had potatoes, onions, provologne and swiss cheese. It was perfectly light and flavorful and although it was small, did the trick in satisfying my slightly hungry tummy. The red velvet cupcake was okay.. The consistency of the whipped cream was my favorite part but the cake itself was ordinarily red velvet. The chocolate croissant and chocolate twists were fun treats as well and I think a lot of things here are worth the try only if you are in the area. read more

Wow - the Sourdough Chocolate twists were so good. I bought them as snackage for the Indie Horror event being held at Chelsea Market and ended up leaving them in my bag for breakfast today. The bakery is clean and warm, the staff is knowledgeable and friendly and I like that you can see what's going on in the actual bakery part of the bakery! I was drooling over the many kinds of breads and scones, but I couldn't buy them all (as I technically was waiting for a date and arriving with an armload of bread might raise some questions) so I am coming back for them. Amy's Bread is one of those places that makes me happy I live in New York. Finding quality bread in this country is more difficult than you would think, and Artisan shops like Amy's Bread are like an oasis. My Favorites: + Their Rustic Italian loaf is exactly that. A loose shaped crusty bread with huge air holes. Perfect for dipping in olive oil! + Scones - Every scone I have had here has been awesome. After googling best bread in NYC, Amy's Bread often came up in results. Starving myself one Saturday morning, I went with a friend to this place for lunch. While choosing out our sandwiches, we sampled on their peanut butter brownies, which were nutty and chocolately and peanut buttery and awesome. Sorry for my very ungrammatical words. I decided on the Spinach With Havarti And Roasted Tomatoes on whole wheat five grain with clover sprouts and a tahini, yogurt & harissa sauce. The sandwich was a disappointment, as it had too much havarti, and the sauce, extremely overpowering and too sour, had already soaked the bread to a certain sogginess; the result was an overpriced tiny sandwich. I also took home the Rosemary Twist unbleached flour, organic whole wheat and rye flours, water, natural starter, fresh rosemary, olive oil, salt and yeast, which had an overpowering taste of olive oil, as well as the sourdough roll. The sourdough roll was good, but it tasted artificial in that there were a lot of added ingredients that completely took away from the purity of sourdough bread: chewy, slightly dry, and a tad sour, along with natural yeast flavors. With each bite of the roll, I could taste oil sucking into my palette, something that I want in foccacia bread, but not sourdough bread. So Amy's Bread=Big disappointment. Certainly its bread is better than your classic chain supermarket bread, but it is a far cry from a lot of other bakeries. read more

Came here on a windy rainy morning as I followed the smell of fresh breads. Sure, I'm pretty slow to join the Amy's Bread train, but F is it good. Had two cheese biscuits (one with ham and cheese), a chocolate twisty, raisin twisty, and proscuitto twisty). The cheese biscuits, are as everybody says, ridiculously good. Warm fluffy, cheesy, buttery, delicious. The ham & cheese one, I could have done without the two slices of cheddar cheese (because of aforementioned cheesy biscuit). Also, they warmed it up, but not enough, as the center of my sammy was a little cold. The twisties are ridiculous. At $1.50 each, they are just divine deals. The proscuitto one was smoky and meat filled. Raisin was sweet and delicious. Chocolate one was decadent and ridiculous. Also bought a brie and apple sandwich for a friend, she was so-so on it. Prices are all pretty good (although I find the sandwiches a little overpriced). Overall, I love this place. I love bread, the smell of it, the texture, the taste, and most of all, I love Amy's Bread. Sure, there are better bakeries, mom&pop places, and even your occasional Panera bakery, but Amy's Bread does it pretty legit. read more

I really strive not to eat bread, but Amy's made it worth it. (Well almost, as I always feel guilty afterward.) The orange macaroons were a tad too sweet for my taste buds, but had a nice bright flavor. The chocolate sourdough twist was perfectly chewy and chock full of bittersweet chips. And my personal favorite, the raisin fennel semolina twist. On a whim, I thought it sounded good, and I later found out that it's a best seller. LOVE Amy's Bread! I've only been to the Chelsea Market and Bleecker Street locations, and this one is by far the best. Let me tell you why. The line always looks long, but it moves very quickly. Plus they always have a nice stock of cinnamon challah knots (my FAVORITE!!). The Bleecker St one always seems to be sold out (you hear this Bleecker Street?? Sort this out!). The almond brioche toast is always a just-as-delicious alternative. Once when I ordered a beloved challah knot, the server, Jerome (Jerome was not actually called Jerome. My friend and I named him Jerome because he looked like one), gave me a free knot (!!) because he claimed the two were "stuck together". However, when I was eating them later, it was evident he did not try at all to pry them apart. I'm not complaining. Also, Jerome is very cute. Now for the winning reason: when I spilled my some of my latte on the floor, I went to the counter to ask for some napkins. Instead of first asking where the spill was, the cashier asked in a very concerned way "do you need more coffee?". I very much appreciate people being concerned about my caffeine intake and putting the coffee first. Written down, this story doesn't sound as impressive. Maybe you had to be there. But I was very pleased with Amy's Bread. PS: Am I the only one who thinks Amy's Bread lattes are the best in the city?? I'm not going to hold back! The bread is always fresh and tasty with lots of varieties to choose from. I usually go to the Chelsea Market Exchange to get my produce and cheese and then Amy's for my bread of choice (usually paired with the cheese). Reasonably priced and speedy/helpful service. Often not discussed in the cupcake circuit, Amy's has the most intensely delicious and rich cupcakes I've ever had. It's a mini dense sweet cake. They're so beautiful and perfectly prepared. They're kind of in a league of their own because they're so rich, moist and dense. A must-try for cupcake whores. Additionally, their chocolate layer cake is sinfully rich and divine. read more

The have a great variety of bread. It really reminded me of going to a Parisian boulangerie. The bread was fresh and sparingly stacked behind the counter. There does not seem to be much of a surplus. Fresh is fresh, people buy what is available and bread is not left there to go stale. I got myself half of a sesame loaf for $2.50. I sauteed some garlic with some rosemary and then baked the sliced, absolutely heaven. The other items are not as well priced. The raisin and fennel semolina bread twist cost $1-2, though the fennel was quite overpowering. The Kitchen Sink cookie ($3) was a really good combination of flavors and good example of my favorite type of cookie (oatmeal cookies). In general though, I would stick to buying their bread. Next to the shop is the bakery, which is twice the size of the shop. Through the halls of Chelsea Market, you can see the bakers doing their magnificent craft. This was me when I first laid eyes on this place. OMG!!! o.O I think I died and was sent straight to heaven. Must have been a very nice little girl. Sniff...Sniff the smell of freshly baking bread tickled my nose. Okay...enough of my random rambling. I couldn't decide on what to get, but I finally decided to get the Grilled N.Y. State Cheddar Sandwich after oogling at the shelf full of bread. As stated on menupages, it took a good 3-4 minutes to grill that sucker up. I was getting a little impatient for I was a little hungry. I tend to get a tad irritable when I don't get fed. I finally got my sandwich which felt like an eternity and took a ginormous bite. Meh. The workers here were really nasty. Maybe they were at the end of a long shift when I came in? The food was pretty good-- my boyfriend and I shared the country breakfast special (2 biscuits, jam and a coffee: $3.75) and the NY goat cheese with roasted eggplant, tomato and olive tapenade on a baguette ($7.00). I wish the biscuits had been warm, but they were cold cold cold. The jam was generic, but the coffee was good. The baguette was a deal because I LOVE goat cheese and there was basically a log of it on there. So, meh. Will have to come back to try the breads, they were reasonably priced. read more

Where else in NYC's diet-obsessed culture do you have a 'bread menu'? Try the olive bread with a small pallet of buttery for a perfect warm, salty roll. Bonus points if you walk through Chelsea Market at night to see them start baking bread on the night shift! Was just in there and the line is wrapped around the inside of the place with no one helping anyone. Employees no where to be found. I would have given 4 stars the food is good, the workers are friendly. But it loses two stars simply because they have the slowest service anywhere in the Chelsea market. Every time I go in, the line is wrapped around the room, but even if there is only two people on the line in front of you, be prepared to wait 15 minutes watching them run around and talk to one another before they have time to get to you. It's not just once it's every time. Go there if you don't mind waiting in a line of 2-25 people. 15 minute wait is he minimum. read more

I'm not a huge fan of all the Amy's Bread shops around the city. Don't get me wrong, they're OK, but I don't rush to stop in and buy a pastry or anything like that. But the great thing about the outlet in Chelsea Market is that somehow, their bread is really cheap, especially in comparison with the packaged whole grain breads available in my neighborhood supermarket. I can get a nice loaf of fresh baked whole wheat "peasant bread" for half the price of anything fancier than wonderbread at the supermarket. read more

Excellent brioche sandwich rolls. I also recommend the regular chocolate twists for a quick snack. Nice baguettes but remember to wrap them up in foil if you plan to use over a number of days as they will harden up quick. The system is also a little confusing here. Sometimes the person who helps you out walks all the way around to the register and takes payment. Sometimes the item is handed off to the person working the register and you are rung up. As a result no one is left manning the ordering station. Seems inefficient to me but I'm not mad because I love your brioche rolls! read more

Beware of that Amy, the lady is a tramp. She is everywhere and seduces the masses with her breads. Amazing thick crusts that are the perfect ratio of chewy to crunchy and thick, not too yeasty insides that make my eyes water with tears of joy. I'm a personal fan of the twists (especially the prosciutto one which can be a bit salty but mixed with the thick bread, is utter perfection). I like this location best because as others have said the other 'open-air' locations have flies making my voracious hunger for these amazing breads suddenly non-existent. Also because Ninth Street Espresso is right next door and there is no better accoutrement to a Amy's Bread twist than the perfect cappuccino. read more

This is the only Amy's Bread I patronize. The other two are open air locations, and my eye always spots more than a fly or two hovering over the breads. Favorite items: the pumpkin bread in the fall, the fig and hazelnut scones on Wednesdays (?), and the cherry clunker cookie. Croissant is amazing! Buttery, flaky, soft and chewy perfection. Sticky buns are also quite good. Even better warmed up with a bit of butter. I could do without the garlic breadsticks and the sourdough loaf. Both were a bit hard, almost stale. Despite having an outrageous line, the girl helping me was very friendly and patient, giving me suggestions and answering questions. For that, I ranked up to 4 stars. read more
