I came here only because I had my haircut done next door and was in a hurry. My most recent experience was MUCH better than my first back in 2011. This place has stepped up. When I came in, there was 3 other tables taken and service wasn't bad. I ordered their Pho and Spring Rolls. Pho came out fast and it was hot. The flavors weren't bland but they weren't as flavorful as what I'm used to at other joints. The spring rolls were okay. The main reason why I gave this place 1 star was because of their service. But the last 3 times I've been there, the service was much better. Wow! This place was really good. I went there on a Friday evening and got it to go. The place itself is not that big inside, but the atmosphere is both welcoming and traditional. The smell alone when you walk in, makes yourt mouth water! I ordered the flank steak large bowl, and a side of vegetable spring rolls. The soup was pretty epic, but the rolls were just ok. The peanut dipping sauce was really good though. Like I said I took it to go and they made sure that I had everything in the bag that i would need to make the meal at my home. It was a nice little kit and everything was warm and fresh. The prices are very reasonable as well. Just over 11 bucks for all that food, you cant really beat that at all. Was excited to come here on recommendation of a friend. Located in a dumpy strip mall. Came for lunch and the place was just getting crowded but was seated immediately. The place is worn down, our table top had shattered glass that then had a plastic coating over the broken glass - bizarre. Not impressed with a place that seems unclean and run down and CRAMPED. Ordered the lunch special with rice topped with pork, beef and chicken. Also, Vietnamese spring rolls. Waitstaff was friendly and efficient. The food was a huge disappointment. Imagine that you have pieces of either beef or pork and a steam roller runs over them. Then you sprinkle those pieces of flattened meat with five spice powder and fry it. That is what their meat is all about. I was in shock. There is no fresh nor beef flavor to the meat. The chicken was a shredded small mound and flavorless despite having pieces of cooked onion in it. Bleh. I could not distinguish the beef from the pork. Bad. The rolls were crispy and small and a RIP OFF. Expensive for small egg rolls. Do not waste your time. The flavor was ok but nothing mind blowing. Eventually I ate enough of the pork to make out that YA it is PORK! Still could not distinguish the beef though. Maybe this place is good for Pho, but I would not recommend anything on the L menu. Their dipping sauce was pure water and sugar with a bit of hot pepper thrown in to step up the flavor. Bleh. Two entrees for their LUNCH SPECIAL and spring rolls. $26 and change not including tip. A bit pricey for something not really delicious. An Loi you are not all that. My brother is a regular and I've been here a couple of times. Consistently good pho where the broth can definitely stand alone. Instead of putting sauces into it, we'll put the sauces on a plate to dip our meat and veggies, and enjoy the broth as is. I tried the An Loi Wrap the other day, and couldn't get over how tasty it was. You make the wraps yourself with the thinly sliced pickled radish wrappers...fillings include seasoned pork, bean sprouts, julienne carrots, rice noodles, basil, cilantro, and some sauces. Great textures and flavors, and very fresh tasting! I've had the same waiter both times...really friendly and outgoing guy who seems to recognize customers pretty well. Now, I've seen it all. A Korean owner of a Vietnamese restaurant. We don't get too much of that in the Bay area. She did keep it "real" by employing Vietnamese waiters and a waitress. So, I ordered the 3-meat lunch special. What came out was very interesting. The lemongrass chicken was missing the lemongrass flavor. In fact, it was just shreds of chicken instead of actual pieces. The grilled pork had the appearance of grilled pork, and it actually tasted like grilled pork. SCORE !! On the other hand, the beef didn't look like beef at all -- not sure exactly what it was, but it had just a slight taste of beef. And the kicker is the pickled vegetables, who would include pickled cabbage in a Vietnamese lunch. Wait, a Korean person would (LOL). Long story short. This is no longer a Vietnamese restaurant. In fact, I don't know exactly what it was or what it was trying to be. To make matters worst, the place is in dire need of an upgrade. It's dark, dingy, and had furniture from the 80s. This cozy, pho spot is inexpensive and close to Snowden River Parkway in Columbia. I arrived early to get a table for the 4 of us and was glad I did since seating is limited. This was 6:30 on a Tuesday night. I had the shrimp summer rolls with a really good peanut sauce as an appetizer. I really enjoyed this place. A group of five of us went for lunch. Everyone ordered some version of Pho, except me, I got my usual Bun with grilled pork. Food came out quickly and had all the customary fixin's. nobody had any complaints, and a number of people said it was their favorite pho in Columbia. One guy also swears by the spring rolls. My bun was great and I'd definitely go back to try more of the menu. Also worth mentioning, half of the customers looked like they came from Vietnamese roots. So if 50% of the place may have had Vietnamese home cooking, and they keep this place busy...it must be good/authentic. I love this pho location. It's my go to stop for a hot bowl of pho. Pho is a bowl of Vietnamese noddles with thinly sliced (not cooked) assortments of meats which cook in the steaming hot broth. The broth is cooked for hours to develop a deep meaty flavor. I suggest ordering a side of pickled onions. That is if you are an onion lover like myself. The onions are thinly sliced with a sweet pickled taste. The onions add a sweet back tone to the noddles. I also love all their appetizers. My three go to appetizers are the summer rolls, spring rolls and the grape leaf rolls. The summer roll is the roll with the rice paper shell. The spring roll is a fried roll. The grape leaf rolls have a juicy and tender meat in the center. Overall, I highly recommend this pho restaurant if you are in the Columbia, MD area. read more

Came here for dinner considering we've tried their competitors Pho Nam and Pho Dat Thanh. It's tucked away off of Snowden River Parkway in this little odd looking strip mall plaza which contains a Burger King and a Pizza Hut (both without the usual logo signs, so looks a bit odd). An Loi is a bit smaller than Pho Dat Thanh with a slightly smaller menu. We both ordered #1 pho and the appetizer combo #1 (which comes with 2X shrimp summer roll, 2X fried spring roll (has meat), and grilled bbq chicken). SX asked for extra meat which turned out to be beef top round eye in a separate small bowl of soup. Their bowl of pho is similar to Pho Dat Thanh with minimal sliced onions and scallions. Their's isn't very deep in flavor compared to Pho Nam's, however they definitely give you a lot of noodles in the large-sized pho compared to the other two places. With each order of pho, you get the standard fixings along with various sauces (on the table side) to customize your bowl of pho. The service here is pretty friendly and there's complimentary candy at the end of the meal. read more

Thought I'd try this place out after being at Pho Dat Trinh (Sp?) three times this week. The staff was very nice. Their menu had more soups than pho dat. I wanted to try the spicy lemongrass beef soup and i should have, Had a custom small, gave me a large. doesn't matter its like a 70 cent difference. Anyway, round, brisket, and flank. The broth was very beefy in flavor. I def like pho dat's better. You can taste more of the anise and what not. This was almost like beef stew broth. It wasn't bad, but wasn't what I usually look for. The Thai iced tea was better than Pho dat's and my son got the flat rice noodles with beef, like a chow fun and it was 4.5 stars. Last night was my second visit to An Loi as my boyfriend made me hip to their An Loi Wraps and I HAD to come try them IMMEDIATELY. They are listed as an appetizer but I ordered them as an entree. However, they would be great for sharing with a group of people. They came with thinly sliced pickled radish wraps, which you can fill with your choice of meat (pork for me), vermicelli noodles, bean sprouts, cilantro, Thai basil, delicately pickled carrots and onions, and their homemade peanut sauce. Add a little sriracha and hoisin sauce and it's AMAZING. I would definitely come back specifically for these wraps and implore everybody else to try them as well! For $8.95 you can't really beat it! Parking is plentiful, the service is quick, and our glasses never went empty. The only thing that bothered me is that they rushed us out of there after they closed and commented on the leftovers we had, but it's no big deal. read more

This review is based on the take out food. I did not eat in for this day. The service was quick and easy to place my order and pick up. Friendly staff. Prices were average, not too expensive. Venue was easy to find with lots of parking. Food: I ordered the pho and the vermicelli, both were quite disappointing. I did appreciate that they pre cooked all of my meats including the round steak. But the broth itself was nothing special. I also got plenty of extra veggies including the basil and bean sprouts. Finally, the vermicelli... unfortunately they got my order wrong, I got the combo vermicelli, but ended up getting just the pork. They didn't add the shrimp or egg rolls. But that is okay as long as they didn't forget the protein. So the meat was good and vermicelli was pre steamed. I do have to point out that the fish sauce was more sweet than fishy, which I understand its catering to the community, but its called fish sauce for a reason, maybe save a little of its original essence would be nicer. Disappointed at how expensive the prices are. One large pho noodle soup is a whopping $13.95. I ordered Pad Thai and it was all noodles with just 4 shrimp in the entire dish. Have only ordered the Pork Chops with the Tomato Rice and Spring Rolls and have to say, those two items are what keeps me coming back. Suprisingly, the first and second times visiting, I went there specifically for the Pho and I have yet to try it! It will eventually be tested and I am sure that it will meet my expectations for the 5 stars I am giving it. I stopped by here today for lunch with a coworker. An Loi is located in a strip mall and the windows to the restaurant are tinted. Whenever we walked inside the restaurant I was actually really surprised at how busy it was. Almost all of the tables were taken and we were actually lucky to secure one for ourselves. During the time that we were there a number of people also came in for some take out. For lunch on this day I decided to order the lunch special Ga Xao Xa Ot. It consisted of sliced chicken breast stir-fried with lemon grass & spiced chili along with accompaniments of rice, nuoc mam, lettuce, tomato, cucumbers, vinegar-marinated cabbage and julienne carrots. Whenever my entree came out I thought it was the perfectly sized portion, not too much but not too little either. The taste of it all was actually pretty good and I really enjoyed the lemongrass and spice flavor of my chicken. However my chicken was somewhat overcooked and so was quite a bit tougher than I would have liked. After I was done eating my portion I was also able to try my coworkers grilled shrimp. It was cooked perfectly and had a nice grill flavor to it. I was actually sad that I hadn't ordered it for myself. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. My wife and I finally found a place (hole in a wall) to get a pho now. Because we recently came from So-Cal where many good pho places around, especially in Garden Grove (AKA Little Saigon) and LA K-Town.. but it was challenging us to find a good pho place by trying what Yelp reviews were written and rated(4 stars or above) as..from our experience, many good yelp reviewed place's broth was salty, noodle was overcooked, and awful customer service. I'm always in search of the perfect local vietnamese restaurant, but this one definitely doesn't make the cut. There are able options to choose from, ranging from pho dishes to rice dishes to noodle entrees. The service was also reasonably fast, considering that we arrived in a party of 6. The portion sizes were also great, comparable to most asian restaurants. Enough to make you full, but not too much that you would be forced to overeat or take home as leftovers. However, the taste of the food needs improvement. The dishes that we ordered had skimpy portions of meat of poor quality, and tasted like something that I could cook at home by myself as an amateur chef. Therefore, I left the restaurant in disappointment and in search of a better vietnamese reataurant. But props to the restaurant for its extensive menu! The maryland chicken was delicious. Tomato rice wasn't overly sweet, which is a good thing. Pork vermicelli was about ok. I feared the pork would be cooked too dry, but came out quite tender. The entire household was sick for 2 days with vomiting and diarrhea. So far, my favorite Vietnamese restaurant in the area! Their cha gio is pretty average, but I really loved their Bun bo Bue. It has great flavor, and a good amount of spiciness to it. Also, their rice dish with grilled pork chop is excellent... the pork chop itself is grilled and seasoned fantastically! The meatloaf and shredded pork that accompany the rice dish are not the standard style I expected, but still quite good. I'm definitely coming back to get my Vietnamese food fix. read more
