I realize now I have the same complaints as others and wish I would have consulted Yelp??? first, which seems bizarre for a OBGYN? I stayed for 2 years but eventually left. First - the receptionist should not be patient facing for anything. She is so rude and short with you, I didn't walk in with a mask on in 2024!!!!!! and she acted like I walked in with Anthrax. Dr Sandhu is extremely condescending, and the last time i was there, I actually told her how rude Christina the receptionist was, and she literally shook her head and told me no she wasn't, without even asking what the situation was. BTW, the front desk is anything other than welcoming if you are not a far left feminist. It's filled with bobbleheads of only Democrat women politicians, which I think is extremely offputting in a doctors office, no matter your political affiliation. They are supposed to be helping women with hormonal changes. The staff are supposed to be experienced but recently I just a horrible experience with them. It was not a good fit. I am the patient/client, I did not feel cared for. Staff does have a tone that feels reprimanding. Not sure if they cared if I will have another couple of days or weeks of sleepless nights. They just wanted to make sure they schedule me for an annual exam first, (they want it earlier even if I had already scheduled it a week from now) before they'd give me my next prescription of HRT (aha!) I want to start by saying that I've been seeing Dr. Sandhu as my OB/GYN for a long time. When I first started seeing her, I thought that she was great. She listened; she calmly explained medical procedures to me and made me feel heard. But then I gained a little weight and started having symptoms tied to an undiagnosable illness. At my most recent appointment with Dr. Sandhu, I decided to ask her about the possibility of testing me for PCOS. I had always had symptoms of the disorder, and things in my body were going haywire, so I thought it couldn't hurt to test for it. Instead of listening to me, Dr. Sandhu decided to pull out my medical chart and map out how I had gained weight over the years and how that was why I was having health issues. Now- if you were to see me in person, you wouldn't know I weigh what I weigh. I'm nowhere near obese. But in Dr. Sandhu's eyes, I might as well have been. She then went on to tell me that my body wasn't mine anymore because of how much I weighed and that I needed to eat less. Fun fact for all of you Yelpers out there- the average hours of nutrition education taught in medical school is 19.6 hours. 19.6 hours. Another fun fact- PCOS can cause weight gain that's hard to get off. And I exercised all of the time. But what do I know? I'm just some idiot patient concerned about her body. But anyways, back to my story. After Dr. Sandhu basically called me fat and wouldn't test me for PCOS, I started looking for another OB/GYN. I refuse to be ignored and cast to the side in a field of medicine where women who look like me die disproportionately at the hands of their medical providers because those same providers will not listen. If you're looking for empathy, understanding, and someone to take your ailments seriously (and who isn't fatphobic)? Look elsewhere. read more

I ended up leaving this doctor. After I went through menopause I waited a couple of years to go back for another pap smear. She outright scolded me for a few minutes about how I still needed to do it every year and did I want to get cervical cancer and die? When I asked her if she recommended hormone therapy she told me to book another appointment to talk about it. The next time I went back she kept coming in and out of the room, dealing with some other situation going on. Every time she came back she started telling me about it and who did they think they were dealing with etc. etc. I just wanted her to stop talking and get my exam over with. After that I found out I only needed to get screened every 3 years. That was it for me. read more

This Dr will fire you as a patient if you also work with midwives or a birthing center. She won't coordinate care during your pregnancy and will refuse to see you after you give birth even for routine things like Pap tests. Very disappointing and surprising given she markets herself as "holistic". She is also visibly anxious during appointments and will talk about herself a lot without answering your questions. Her office staff are also rude and impatient. Overall an awful and expensive experience. read more

I have been a patient of Dr Sandhu for almost 7 years, including the birth of my second child. I appreciated Dr Sandhu's attitude towards avoiding interventions and unnecessary medical checks during pregnancy. Her view helped me remain calm throughout. During my pregnancy I found her to be very responsive, and very caring, as well as a great listener. She was also good at reinforcing that a mom needs to take care of herself in order to best take care of baby. As a GYN, I have been very happy with Dr Sandhu as well, as she is proven to be exceptionally non-judgmental and has allowed me to feel comfortable asking or talking about anything whatsoever. I could not reach Dr Sandhu on the morning I was in labor, but that is probably because all the messages I left with her secretary said "I have really bad gas" and I didnt realize I was in labor until I felt the head.... A quick update to the worst doctor experience I've ever had. I was pregnant again weeks after my miscarriage. Although any pregnancy is a miracle, Dr Sandu should really get her facts straight. I wish there was some kind of standard doctors have to keep. I ended up having to pay for most all of the $600+ bill. Dr. Sandu would never return any of my calls. Dr Sandhu's receptionist refused to let me check in because she didn't like the way I smelled. I denied wearing any scented lotions or perfumes and she still refused to see me. I was not the only patient in the room and she could have been smelling scents from someone else but she refused to check me in. I left the office in tears, but I will report it to both Medicare and to the US dept of Human Services. Her office staff are going to end up getting her in real trouble, from reading the other reviews, this is the conclusion I've come to. Too bad, I didn't even get to meet the doctor :-/ An update to this review, I've called multiple times to speak to someone about the issue and was told that the doctor manages her own practice, and that she would call me back. I haven't heard back from anyone. It doesn't appear that this doctor cares about addressing issues with her staff. I am actually grateful that I was stopped from seeing her, because I have to be seen by a doctor who cares about my well-being and how I feel during my visit to their clinic. I would NOT go to this physician's office, nor would I recommend her office to my family and friends. Hope this is helpful ;-) Second update; it is now 6 days since my appointment, I have not received a call back from anyone about this complaint. I wrote a letter to the doctor and mailed it to her practice, her office refused to give me an email and the doctor won't call me back. These negative reviews...wow. While I currently don't see Dr. Sandhu (due to moving & insurance coverage), when I did she was absolutely amazing! She has never been one to sugar coat things & will tell you how it is. But she is so warm and kind and possesses great bedside manner when doing so. She delivered both of my children, both difficult pregnancies. Even as knowledgeable as she is, She was very thoughtful and respectful of my beliefs, views & opinions. She cared like a doctor should, and didn't just "practice" medicine. I was not in the best of health in my last pregnancy due to existing autoimmune health issues. I ended up developing preeclampsia followed by HELLP syndrome at 34 weeks. Because of her close monitoring, knowledge, quick judgement and tough decision making my premature child & I are here today. Definitely an thorough doctor who advocates for her patients & encourages them to advocate for themselves as well. I always recommend her when asked. So very fond of her & her practice. read more

I would have loved to have seen this Dr. The reviews I have read have been very complimentary and another Dr I see said her patients had good experiences with Dr. Sandu. So my review does not reflect on Dr. Sandhu herself. I must mention that this office has a no perfume policy. They did mention it to me over the phone which is why I did not apply any. When I got there the receptionist asked me if they told me about the policy. I said yes and that I had not applied perfume today. She then said that she could smell me and it was very strong. She said that she was sure I did not do it on purpose but they could not see me and I would have to reschedule. Apparently the policy is because pregnant patients have very sensitive noses and the scents linger. I guess the scent could have been my deodorant or fabric softener but I don't feel like having the added anxiety of not knowing if I will be allowed to be seen if I don't pass the receptionist's smell test. In short, keep looking. NOT detailed with Radiology (ultrasounds), NOT Midwife Friendly. Here goes. Dr. Sandhu and John Muir Medical were in network so we chose to try her when we found out we were pregnant. My wife and I were already working with a midwife but wanted to get an ultrasound to date the baby and set the timeline. Did the ultrasound, Dr. Sandhu found nothing, we were confused, she explained very little, said she needed to run blood tests to be sure, and left us in the room to ponder. We talked to our midwife and she explained the possibilities, including that it may be an Ectopic pregnancy (very dangerous). Did the blood test, waited, the results were in, no explanation yet, asked that the medical records be released to our midwife, and her office said they would drop us if they released the records. What? Excuse me, they are our records. We chose to wait a little more, still no explanation, midwife gave a recommendation of another radiologist that was in network, asked for our medical records, went to Oakland Children's Hospital, got another ultrasound, technician and OBGYN found fetal tissue, explained that we were safe, normal miscarriage. Asked them if this fetal tissue just appeared? They said Dr. Sandhu should have seen it and been able to tell us we were in the clear a week prior. Asked them about releasing records to our midwife? They said Dr. Sandhu should have released them as professional courtesy. Save your time, and the hassle, keep looking. read more

I am the husband of a patient of Dr. Sandhu. I do agree w/ some of the negative reviewers that there are office management issues...but really...so minor in light of how important the right doctor needs to be. But as an honest and objective reviewer, I have to remove 1 star for these minor deficiencies to respect the offices out there with awesome doctors AND awesome office management. Dr. Sandhu is an awesome doctor. We actually tried out one of the highest rated offices in Walnut Creek, but felt terribly disappointed...some people get way too swayed by "the shiny new & fancy offices"...Sandhu's office is clean, simple, and well furnished and I actually like it...though the building is older and the men's bathroom is akin to old gas stations. The most important criteria is face time with the doctor (90% is just showing up..right?)...I don't want excuses, I require that the doctor sees my wife personally...every time (unless there's an emergency). I think you can ONLY get this at a private single doctor practice. Next is personality fit...Dr. Sandhu matches my wife well...or at least understands people well enough to cater to my wife's individual needs and personality...awesome doctor. She was attentive and available to take my 3am call when my wife's water broke. She recognized how important it was to educate and relate with the husband. She was an anchor during the EVENT...all that anxiety...yet the bond she developed over 9 months w/ my wife and me...made all the difference. Basically the trust was there. Post baby, Dr. Sandhu is still my wife's doctor...and someone I feel I know as well. read more

From a father-to-be/father's perspective: Dr Sandhu is an incredible doctor. During my wife's pregnancy, the regular checkups went smoothly. We never waited past our scheduled time. The staff was professional. The office was clean and serene. Dr Sandhu answered all of our questions and always spent extra time to make sure we felt at ease with the pregnancy and pending delivery. Dr Sandhu delivered our baby at John Muir. All of the nurses spoke highly of her. During the delivery, she was a force of calm, assertive professionalism. My second appointment with Dr. Sandhu: she, again, took over 30 minutes to even show up, even though I was the first appointment of the day. So, to sum up my experience: Dr. Sandhu was always very late. The woman in charge of the office's billing is inept -- I had an issue regarding being refunded for an over-payment that dragged out into me calling her office multiple times per week for months to get resolved. It was such a relief to finally get the billing issues sorted out and realize that I never have to deal with the people in this office again. read more

Dr Sandhu is the best! She delivered my daughter in 2012 and I had a very positive birth experience. But my favorite part about Dr. Sandhu is her bedside manner. She takes the time to listen and answer questions and really find out how you are doing. It is very important to me to have a doctor with a positive and caring bedside manner and I have that in Dr. Sandhu. I feel like in another circumstance she could be my friend. I am troubled by the reviewer below who claims that Dr. Sandhu would not give her her medical records. That does not sound like her at all. Dr. Sandhu is a stickler for process and so I imagine the reviewer did not get what she wanted because she did not follow proper protocol. I was seeing Dr. Sandhu as my regular ob-gyn. I went to see her for an annual checkup including pap smear test. She asked if I had any changes to my health. I mentioned my latest bloodwork indicated A1C was high, bordering on the diabetes. I also mentioned that I was having pains under my arms and in one breast. She didn't bother to do any manual exam of breast or under arms. Instead she told me to make another appointment for it. She also said to make another appointment so she can talk to me about preventing diabetes. I would expect a good doctor to do the manual breast exam and advise to see a specialist for diabetes prevention. Her suggestions made me think she cared more about her finances than my health. This was 2-3 years ago and I stopped seeing her right after this appointment. read more

I met Dr Sandhu when I went into the ER for abdominal pain. Turns out I had a ruptured ectopic pregnancy (didn't know I was pregnant) and had been bleeding internally for nearly 20 hours. I guess I have an incredible threshold for pain.... Anyway, I had been in the ER for hours with people ignoring me and telling me that my lack of breathing was "all in my head". Finally, I went in for an ultrasound and the tech noticed my stomach filled with blood. Dr. Sandhu was walking by and peeked in to see what was up. She knew immediately what was wrong and demanded that I be rushed in to an OR where she proceeded to operate like a BOSS. She save my life. Any longer with the amount of blood loss and the fact that I was still actively bleeding and I would have been dead in hours. She. Saved. My. Life. I have also had the privilege of going to her a year later with my current pregnancy (we know about this one). She has been AMAZING. Dr. Sandhu is very caring and easy going, answers all your questions, has always spent time with us during each appointment. I have never felt rushed or had the experience of having a Dr. show up for 2 seconds and say "everything looks good! Kthxbai!" Never with Dr. Sandhu because she likes to sit and get to know you and chat with you and actually inspect you to see if you are doing well. She also calls me herself to pass on lab results or news of any kind. I LOVE Dr. Sandhu! I know many people have complained about the FRAGRANCE FREE policy, but I have to say that I agree with it. I personally am sensitive even without being pregnant and I appreciate the HECK out of this policy now that strong smells make me nauseous and sometimes lightheaded. Seriously ladies, get over it and stop slathering on all the cover up scents. It gets a bit ridiculous anyway. I love Quinn who does most of he office work and phone answering. She is great at scheduling, passing on messages, and is very sweet. There is another older woman there that might seem a bit standoffish, but no problems at all, very civil. Overall, please give Dr. Sandhu and her office a try. She is the BEST in her field in her area and has the best personality to boot. We love her and trust her and hope you will too. read more

It's hard for me to believe anyone would write a negative review for Dr. Sandhu. I moved to the area right when I found out I was pregnant and feel so lucky to have found her. I'm very picky, read all reviews and thoroughly research when it comes to selecting doctors. I'm so glad that I overlooked the reviews of the disgruntled ex-employe and the couple of patients that must be hard to deal with in regular life and saw her video through John Muir. I could tell then that she was an expert in her field, calm and caring. She is THE BEST OBGYN I've seen through the years and made me and my husband feel completely comfortable during my prenatal care and c-section delivery! She's a perfectionist, truly cares about you during and after the surgery. My incision looks perfect, she did a great job! She got baby out and stitched me back up quickly. We had a new nurse in the OR who wasn't putting my dressing on correctly Dr. Sandhu politely let her know. Luckily for me (and all her other patients) She gives her best and expects the best of her staff and hospital staff as well. Dr. Sandhu is a kind and competent doctor, but her front office is lousy. They are completely disorganized and quite infuriating. My first, and last, appointment with Dr. Sandhu resulted in my waiting for one hour for my scheduled appointment. When I finally got to see her, she said that she only had five or ten minutes as one of her patients was going into labor. Totally understandable. We discussed my situation and I was told to reschedule. No exam took place and our talking, after I waited one hour for my appointment, was five to ten minutes maximum. I then received a bill for about $160. The explanation was that my appointment was not considered "routine care". Excuse me?? I didn't actually get an appointment, I got five to ten minutes to talk with a doctor when what I booked was an exam. When I called the office regarding the bill, I was told that Dr. Sandhu's response was that I had my appointment and was being billed for her time. Are you kidding me?? It was ridiculous. I paid the bill so as to not damage my credit, and moved on to a doctor who is both competent and fair. To sum it up, do not go to this doctor. I had an amazing experience with Dr. Sandhu throughout my pregnancy and with the delivery of my daughter in 2009. Her appointments never felt rushed, she always answered all of my questions. One of the reasons I chose Dr. Sandhu is because she sees all her patients (no nurse practitioner) and she has a very low c-section rate. Without going into details, I am fairly certain I would have ended up with an unnecessary c-section with any other doctor. Imagine being in the delivery room, several hours into labor, and a team of nurses abruptly rushing in and injecting 'special' medicine from a 'special' cart because your baby's heartbeat has dropped to the 50's and they need to stop contractions immediately. Then, imagine your doctor calmly walking in a few seconds later and, almost as if she's read your mind, assuring you with great confidence that the baby is going to be fine, everything is under control, and that sometimes nurses and their special carts can be a little scary. That was the position I found myself in a few months ago, and Dr. Sandhu was the doctor who handled the situation so flawlessly. (Both baby and I were fine, by the way!) A friend referred me to Dr. Sandhu when I was 12 or 13 weeks pregnant after I decided not to move forward with a local birthing center. Of course, I read the Yelp reviews before scheduling an appointment, and wasn't sure that I should take the referral. Given my friend's high praises, though, I decided to go ahead. I have nothing but good things to say about my experience with Dr. Sandhu's office. She was always on-time, provided useful information, listened to what I had to say, answered my questions, and seems to be very comfortable and competent in her practice. I was very happy to have her as my OB throughout pregnancy, delivery, and post-partum care. Many of the negative reviews seem to complain about Dr. Sandhu's style of communication - she tends to approach things in a simple, factual manner while trying to connect on a personal level. She is approachable and open-minded. I never felt silly for asking a question and Dr. Sandhu was always very thoughtful and thorough in her responses. I really appreciated that - previous OBGYN's had been more stand-offish and condescending when I asked questions that apparently didn't fit within their range of comfort. I really enjoyed Dr. Sandhu and fortunately did not experience any negative office management / bad experiences here. I did take note of her "no perfume" policy, but did wear Deodorant (Old Spice, which is quite strong) but never had an issue. Dr. Sandhu delivered my Baby boy - Landon B. If I could leave 0 stars I would. This doctor helped deliver my baby at john muir L&D & was very rude to the staff since the moment she walked in. The day after my delivery I experience a very bad panic attack because my body was extremely exhausted from being neglected by the nurses overnight & did not receive anything I asked for. I was ready to go home as I had family at home waiting to actually help support me, & I was told I was getting discharged that day. When she came in to check on me she refused to discharge me because I could possibly have another panic attack (understandable) but then she began to question us very unprofessionally. She asked why I was so worried about my baby's father's sleep because he can "take care of himself". She questioned me like I was stupid and treated the other staff poorly when they tried to be kind to me. Even the staff agreed she had a "difficult attitude". She came back in the room to let us know that if we signed to leave against her orders we would have to pay for our entire hospital bill. She was extremely rude and unprofessional in regards to my mental health and made me feel as if I was not capable of taking care of my baby. I suppose doctors should be trained to help patients with mental health as well but til this day I still get anxiety because of how bad she questioned me and my baby's father. We are first time parents and instead of telling us we're going to do fine, she made it seem like we were incapable of taking care of the baby on our own. Do not go to this doctor if you struggle with mental health because she is not the one for you & she will down talk you like you are stupid. read more

Demeaning, terrible bed side manner, condescending using terms,"I told you that" when you simply are just asking a question to better understand the situation. My husband and I were so confused at one point we thought she was talking about someone else as she was speaking upon a past visit almost accusing of of things that weren't said. She is very candid and transparent with her feelings on your health but there is a way of being candid without condescending and mean when someone doesn't seem to understand. Dr. Sandhu had been my GYN for a few years . I thought she was really amazing . I had gone to her earlier this year with concerns for PCOS . This was the beginning of COVID. I was having irregular cycles and abnormal hair growth , plus painful intercourse . (Which I had been seen for in the past ) in her exact words " that's not PCOS, that's just weird! Come see me again in 3 months if you still don't get a period ." I decided that I knew my body better than that and things weren't normal . I went to another GYN a few months later who actually listened to my concerns and did testing . And determined I DO have PCOS . Dr.sandhu is really kind , but she's so caught up in her own world that she doesn't listen to or take your concerns seriously .
