Visiting my family in Virginia so I wanted to find a nice spot for food, and I came across Anatolian Bistro on Yelp. This place is outstanding! The couple that owns this restaurant are incredibly warm and welcoming. It's nice and cozy inside, and I love how there's a screen that shows pictures and views of Cappadocia in Turkey. Really makes me want to visit :) All of the food was really good, we polished our plates. My partner and I shared the mix grill plate - my favorite was the doner kebab over rice. Was introduced to this place by a former co-worker. Truly enjoyed a yummy lunch for a reasonable price with great service. As a bonus it is in the World Gate strip so easy to catch a movie followed by good food (or the other way around). Well...I finally got my husband to try Turkish food. He had spent some time in Turkey as part of his stint in the Army. Yet, while there, he never tried the local food. I had tried Turkish food when a friend and I went to Turcuisine which was the predecessor to Anatolian Bistro. One vestige of the former restaurant remains---and that is the large photographic mural of Istanbul. Recently, I had my husband take a look at their menu. Once he did that, he was on board with trying it. We were here on a Saturday around 5 p.m. At that time of day, there were only two occupied tables. That, of course, changed as the evening progressed. Our waiter was the one who also greeted and seated us plus gave us menus. My husband had red lentil soup as a starter. I just stuck to the bread basket that was given to us. The bread was warm and fresh plus it came with an olive oil and balsamic vinegar dipping sauce. I tasted some of the red lentil soup and while the lentil flavor was obvious, the soup itself was on the bland side. It comes with a lemon wedge which my husband used to add juice. He said it didn't help much. For the main course, my husband ordered "Lamb Chops" which consists of: "Marinated lamb chops grilled to your perfection served with rice pilaf and grilled vegetables". This dish comes with 4 small lamb chops that have been Frenched (for those who aren't familiar with this preparation---the majority of the fat has been trimmed off with the rib bone exposed and cleaned). In addition to the pilaf, there were a few veggies (very few) ---3 broccoli florets, one small wedge of onion and part of a green pepper. He raved about his chops saying they were perfectly prepared (he ordered them medium). In fact, he ended up gnawing on the bones. Like me, he liked the pilaf as it was moist and flavorful. The side ingredients were such that the chops were the star of the show. I ordered "Beef Filet Mignon Shish" which consists of: "1/2 lb Charcoal grilled tender chunks of Fillet Mignon skewered and served with rice and vegetables ". I ordered the beef cooked medium and it was perfectly prepared---very tender, well seasoned and flavorful. Again, the veggie portion was stingy --- one tomato wedge, one onion wedge and a tiny piece of green pepper. As previously mentioned, the pilaf was quite good. We still had room for dessert so we both ordered baklava. They make their baklava fresh daily. I grew up eating baklava made from scratch by my grandmother and great-aunt so I'm picky when it comes to baklava. This baklava was awesome! It wasn't overly sweet and the pistachio filling provided nice flavor. I let one of the servers know that their baklava compared quite favorably to what I ate growing up. She said she would let them (the ones that made it) know. My husband tried some Turkish coffee for the first time. He liked it and said he'd have it again. There is one thing to keep in mind when dining here --- If you want a decent portion of veggies, I would suggest ordering a salad, which I plan to do next time. Stopped by this weekend and was pleasantly surprised. Admittedly I don't know a ton about Turkish/Mediterranean cuisine but I like trying new things. I really liked the tanginess of the Yayla Turkish Yogurt soup. The red lentil soup came highly recommended but I was more impressed with the yayla soup. The manti dumplings were delicious too. Was also delighted by the Kazandibi pudding which had a stiffer consistency than I was expecting. When looking up the recipe online it seems like it might have shredded chicken breast in it which is interesting. Google maps took us behind the Marriott parking lot but it seems like there is more direct access to the parking lot from the street that doesn't require as much winding navigation. There is also parking both above and below ground in the ramp. Service was friendly and I appreciated how our server helped me learn the proper pronunciation of the dishes. It was on the pricier side so I would keep this place in mind for special occasions. read more

For many times, I have been to this place and tried their most of the menu items. They use / prepare everything fresh and the waitstaff always attentive. The ambiance is not holiday season which mostly red that gives soooo much energy. Yesterday night , we had Arnavut liver, İskender kebab for entrees and for dessert of course you can't miss their homemade Kazandibi which is like a milky pudding and homemade baklava with Turkish tea. This restaurant, highly recommended by Tom Siestema and a Turkish friend, is in the Worldgate Shopping Center. This means ample parking and easy to get to. They start with warm sesame-crusted bread with olive oil. I didn't want to fill up so I only had one piece. On my friend's recommendation, I ordered the bronzino. They serve it whole or filleted - I chose the latter. It was $29 for delicate, mild fish, zucchini & squash, and cucumber/tomato salad. I really enjoyed the fish as it was fresh and cooked perfectly. I had the kunefe for dessert. It was $12. It's described as "shredded dough and special cheese in the middle and served with the homemade syrup, topped with pistachio". It was interesting (feel of melted cheese with shredded wheat type stuff on top); but I would order something else for dessert next time. My friend had wine she really liked and Anatolian mix grill with lamb. She said it was delicious. She had the kazandibi (pudding) for dessert. The chef cooks a perfect medium rare lamb shish kebab and they pair it with a fantastic rice and roasted veggies. I highly recommend the falafel and the fresh bread to start. I loved the purple Turkish wine I tried and it went great with the lamb. And when in turkey.. you have to get some Turkish coffee and Baklava for desert. Believe me! They will not disappoint. I was impressed by the attentive service of the staff and personal touch the owner brought to experience. Went for a late-ish dinner a few months back after my wife and I landed in Dulles -- were super hungry after flying back from Reykjavik and wanted something near both the airport and our hotel. We love Turkish food and the menu looked great so we stopped in just a few minutes before closing. Service was fantastic and everyone was super nice. The owner came up at the end to talk with us about his life in Turkey. As to the food: 1. Vegetarian sampler -- delicious baba ghanoush, solid hummus, great grape leaves, amazing ezme (peppers, tomatoes, onions and spices) and some nice feta cheese. My wife liked the borek too though it was a bit greasy. Overall totally delicious and a good value; 2. Iskender kebab -- delicious Doner meat with great yogurt and tomato sauces. One of the best version I've ever tried And 3. Tektas spicy chicken -- some of the best grilled chicken I've ever had alongside rice pilaf and a great side salad. I loved that it was actually assertively spicy *and* had some grilled jalapeños on the side to amp things up even more. Absolutely delicious. Pleasantly surprising. A family member took me here for the Turkish breakfast on a Sunday morning. I liked their simit a lot, breakfast plate was big. They brought menemen separately. Usually Turkish restaurants suck at cooking menemen, which is arguably a basic skill. This restaurant doesn't, their menemen was very good (and huge). My experience was a Sunday morning, the restaurant was very loud with families & kids. Not a place to quietly eat something, recommended for group organizations. This was my first visit to Anatolian Bistro. This is the best Turkish restaurant I have been to in some time. The setting is simple, clean, and neat and the seating very comfortable. The savory malatya spicy chicken hot appetizer is not to be missed. It was delicious, and cooked perfectly. The main course, the Adana kebab dinner also was superbly done. The spicing was exquisitely done, the presentation attractive and the meal delicious. Finally, the kunefe is probably the best I have had outside of Türkiye. It was made fresh from scratch in the kitchen, and thus was as fresh as it could be. The food is prepared fresh in the kitchen for each meal. This has three impacts. First, and most importantly, each meal is freshly prepared and has not been sitting somewhere waiting to be reheated when ordered. Second, because of the personal, individual attention given to each meal in the kitchen, the food is more expensive than one might outside expect. That said, the meal is well worth the price. And third, this means that dinner will take more time than some may be used to. The food is so good it is well worth the wait, and that provides a nice time for relaxing and enjoying the company during dinner. Leisurely meals are valued in many parts of the world, even if the United States has lost its appreciation for such. Dining at the Anatolian Bistro provides a wonderful opportunity for rediscovering the joy of a leisurely meal with excellent food and the company of others. Highly recommended. read more

I got their signature vegetarian dish, a hot appetizer( Patlican Kizartma) and baklava. It was very satisfying and filling... I rarely do three course meal but my curiosity gave in and my weakness for baklava well you know I can say no to it whenever I see as an option just to try their version. And the fresh, made-in-house bread was great. I had the doner kabob, very tasty, which had a generous serving such that I had to pack up some and take it home. I loved the cool yogurt sauce and the juicy tomatoes and the good amount of rice. The dessert was something I never would have had if not for another member of my party convincing me after I brought up what everyone on yelp was raving about: kunefe. The description made no sense to me. Semolina noodles, cheese, and honey? But an umami flavor bomb dessert was too intriguing. And it! did! not! disappoint! A fun texture with the thin vermicelli-like noodles and stretchy slightly salty cheese and honey cutting through with the pistachios gently coming in. That flavor balance. The textures.
