I could not thank K and the entire Anatoly family enough for their help with my Made to Measure suit for my wedding! My wedding suit journey with them started January 2020 as I planned to get married in June 2020. Like many other Covid brides, that all got postponed and through the entire year of waiting, K was extremely patient and supportive throughout the whole process. By the time plans were finalized to get married in July 2021, I went to see K at the Anatoly store to try on my suit for the first time since our initial appointment one year later. I had lost 35 lbs since our initial appointment and because of this, I was swimming in the suit and K had to basically make me a new suit that fit my new body! A couple of fittings and tweaks later...my suit was perfect. I picked out my wedding suit here, and they had it altered and ready for me in under two weeks at a better price than the comparable off-the-rack suits from department stores I had looked at (Macy's, Nordstrom, etc.). This is a long overdue review for my man K at Anatoly's. As a woman, there is NOTHING I love more than wearing a suit. No, not a ladies pantsuit from the Nancy Reagan / Hillary Clinton / Anne Taylor Loft school of suits. I'm talking about suits that would fall into the category of menswear - clean, crisp lines, and elegant simplicity that prides itself in the details. I'm talking Marlene Dietrich in YSL's Le Smoking. Blake Lively in archival Ralph Lauren in A Simple Favor and Diane Keaton in '70s Ralph Lauren in Annie Hall. Katharine Hepburn in pretty much anything, the list goes on and on. THAT kind of suit. I bought my first custom suit 7 years ago. The confidence I felt wearing a suit that fit my body and also made me look the way I wanted to look was more than worth the considerable price tag. I was hooked. Then that tailor sadly went out of business about a year ago and a half ago and I needed to find a new one. So I turned to Yelp with only two major criteria: 1) high quality reviews and 2) low likelihood of overpriced faux-Mad Men clubhouse bros. Anatoly's was one of two finalists (criteria #2 knocked out basically all of SOMA/downtown). I ordered a made-to-measure shirt from each place as a test run and compared the results. You see, button-down shirts are deceptively hard to make for women. It's one thing to make a shirt for a boxy and flat male upper torso. You'd be surprised at the number of high-end men's tailoring houses who balk at the notion of a woman's hips and chest. The ones that are willing to make shirts for women are extremely set in how they think they should fit - namely, overly darted and form fitting to where buttons are puckering all over the place. The other place I picked in San Francisco had a lovely owner with lots of experience and great reviews. However, despite me giving them a very clear description of what I wanted (a fitted but not too fitted shirt with a clean sartorial silhouette plus reference shirt) they too gave me the dreaded and very dated "oh no there are boobs" cut that looks terrible on me and most women with more than an A cup. K, however, knew exactly what I was going for from our first appointment. He pulled one of his model shirts that fit my shoulders exactly and showed me exactly how he could achieve the clean and tailored look I wanted with minimal darts. The finished shirt was spot-on and the difference in the softness and weight of the shirting fabric compared to the other place was clear. I had found my new go-to tailor. I just finished ordering 4 more shirts, a jacket, and 3 trousers from him. Here's the real kicker - the cost is 2/3 what my old tailor used to charge! And the fabric is even better (we're talking Drago, Loro Piana, all of the legendary Italian mills). So if you are looking to support a local, family-run business that combines expert craftsmanship, contemporary yet timeless style, and above all reasonable prices, go hit up Anatoly's in Piedmont. Bought my custom made wedding suit from Anatoly's right before the Pandemic hit and SIP was enacted. K made my first suit shopping experience a great one. You immediately feel welcomed and trusting when coming to Anatoly's shopping for whatever you may need. And they're the people to go to when you need tailoring or alterations done. They really know how to make you look good in whatever you come in with. Even if you want things a little tighter like what my wife wanted they will give you a back reason why they tailored your garments that way but will still do it per your request for me, I left pretty much everything the way it was since K did such a great job measuring. During the pandemic they made sure I was kept in the loop on what was up with my suit and when I could schedule a second fitting during the first reopening. A belated "thank you!" to K and the gang at Anatolys--I needed a new suit jacket for a wedding, and was skeptical that anything off the rack would fit me--I'm a 34S, and most places don't actually have that size in stock. But K grabbed one right off the rack, popped it on me, and pointed out the alterations he'd make to it.
