Anchan Thai is nestled in Bala Cynwyd on the Main Line, and it's more than local Thai restaurant. The restaurant offers a limited space but a great ambiance and authentic Thai cuisine, and if you don't want to go into Center City Philadelphia, Anchan Thai is a strong contender. This time, my boyfriend and I got their corn fritter (amazing by the way!), curry and the stir-fried eggplant. Normally I order their crab fried rice but I decided to switch it up this time. I haven't tried the whole menu, but what I've tried has been delicious. Everything is high quality flavor. The soup is rich, and the basil fried rice is some of the best. Service is great. My server checked in often and the ambiance is warm. Visiting again soon. read more

Service was excellent and the young woman at the front desk was a sweetheart. Wish I could say as much for the food , alas , le sigh , as I hate to give less than flattering reviews . The thom ga (coconut base ? Is that the right one ?) was bland as another review mentioned . My mom makes a good version and this was particularly unflavored. Also , I thought the non traditional use of enoki (mini mushrooms ) was a great bite sized idea . Unfortunately I missed the flavorful cousin and the texture I've found in many others in the form of a good Shataki or even button , the traditional American mushroom. The enoki did not even stand up flavor wise to the flat broth, which tasted like simple coconut milk to me with no additions I'm used to to flavor it :( On to the pad Thai , which I only ordered because my favorite , drunken noodles , got slammed in a previous review for overcooked wide rice or rad na noodle . For me , this is the worst offense with drunken and I just couldn't chance it . The pad Thai , alas , the noodles were not the error , rather the overwhelming amount of SAUCE. They were drenched and on top of it , the sauce , for ME was SO overwhelmingly SWEET , I was honestly worried about my sugar levels after eating and I'm young . I usually like sweetness in pad Thai , but this was so sugary as to be completely overpowering the natural flavors and made it almost unpalatable for me . Yes I realize pad Thai can be on the the sweet side , but this was extreme . One other weird thing to me was that this was garnished With a flat Italian parsley which does not really go with Thai flavors . Cilantro or even a sprig of Thai basil would be a better choive as I usually mix it into the sauce and sprinkle a bit. I had to get several wedges of lime in attempt to cut the sweetness of the dish to no avail. Some folks may like this, but I am guessing many just do not speak up because they are trying to be polite ; sauce could be cut in half , as could sugar , or thinned with soy or lime or more acid . . Not for me and I so wanted to like this as I eat Thai at least once a week in the city and I needed a need place for when I'm on business once in a while on the mainline :( read more

I have a tendency to base my assessments on comparisons. Two weeks ago we had what I'd consider five star Thai food in Brooklyn. Anchan's was perhaps 3.7. Mixed reviews on their Thai corn fritters. T enjoyed them, me, not so much. I thought they were over-fried to the extent that I wouldn't necessarily know that I was eating corn. Singapore noodles were a nice departure from our usual pad see ew. Since vegetables already come with the dish and my add-on was additional vegetables, I thought there would be more. But okay. Lastly chicken with yellow curry. Good. Average. Our friends, favoring a different Thai restaurant, probably won't return. We might. As said, 3.7 stars. Anchan is byob with a $3 corkage fee ... even for the single can of beer our friends brought! read more

my husband and I love Thai food so we wanted to try this place out. We give it three stars. It is very cute and the location is prime. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. as for the food, we decided it isn't any better than what we could do ourselves at home. We ordered pad Thai yellow curry, chicken, satay, and papaya salad. we think that the appetizers were just above average but definitely didn't like the entrées. this restaurant is BYOB so if you're down for some Thai appetizers with some beer, this could be your go to read more

Ordered takeout and the food was decent. The Thai fried rice was flavorful with the right amount of spice. The Pad Thai was cooked right, but missing that smoky wok flavor that elevates the dish. The Tom Yum soup was bland and lacks depth, which is very common for Thai restaurants in the suburbs. Overall not bad, just not great either. read more

Probably the best Thai food we've had here in the U.S. Our table had the tomyum and tomkha soups. Both were great but the tomyum was super tasty and very authentic. We also had the red curry, green curry, and jungle stir fry. Green curry had great heat! Jungle stir fry had lots of fresh tasty veggies. We also had pad Thai which was very good. There was nothing we didn't like. We will definitely be regulars here and look forward to trying everything on the menu. read more

We finally got to eat here and we were not disappointed. This is a charming space and the owner/staff were so pleasant and the service was great. The food is amazing. The soups were so tasty that I can't wait to go back for more! The curry dishes were delicious - this chef knows what he/her is doing. We ordered takeout from this latest incarnation of a Thai restaurant in this location and were very happy with the results. First, the woman taking the order was very nice, the order was ready when promised and was hot and fresh. We made alterations to some items which they happily honored and delivered on. All the foods from Tom Yum soup, noodle dishes, curries and desserts were delicious and well made and presented. We look forward to returning. read more
