Love this Manayunk gem. I've been coming to this BYOB for more than 15 years. Their Thai seasonal desserts are a treat (if available). Dishes are tasty and can be made spicy (and are!). Try the green curry. Don't want spicy? Go for the red or penang curries. Their basil fried rice and beef salad (num tok / waterfall salad) are worth it, too. I came here for an early dinner before an event. I was greeted very warmly by staff and lead to the dining room for seating. The restaurant itself was cozy and beautiful. I ordered the Thai crab fried rice which is one of my favorite dishes. The food came out fast and hot. The fried rice came with fresh tomato and cucumber slices. The crab fried rice had good flavors but wish there was more crab and peppers. Overall the meal was plentiful and very good! Couldn't recommend coming here enough! The restaurant itself is beautiful and definitely fits the Manayunk 'vibe'. As a vegetarian there were endless options that included tofu or vegetables. Our waiter was very attentive and versed on the menu. He made sure to ask about certain ingredients in the dishes and our preferred spice levels. Every dish we got I can highly recommend. The Thai tea is a must and not too sweet. I personally got the crazy noodles with tofu which I couldn't recommend enough! Atmosphere: Chabaa Thai Bistro has a truly beautiful ambiance. I loved the interior design, it reflects Thailand's culture with authentic and elegant details throughout the space. Been living in this area for almost a year now and the food scene never seems to let me down. I've ordered from this place online previously and their crab & shrimp pad Thai and crispy branzino are show stoppers; sad I don't have a picture of the pad Thai. Decided to dine in for dinner recently and had the pleasure of trying the crispy mango shrimp along with the seafood taro scallion pancakes--At this point I feel like there's nothing on the menu that you could go wrong with. Lovely Thai restaurant in the heart of Manayunk's Main Street! I first came here late on a weekend restaurant week night and boy was the wait worth it! The service on restaurant week was so chaotic without a reservation. The hostess took my information for the paper waitlist but had no intentions on calling me back in 1.5 hours bc they were soooo busy. After 2+ hours of waiting, my party of 3 managed to sneak in right before closing and boy, was it worth it! I ordered the pad thai. The portion was just enough for one meal. Filled with extra veggies like cabbage for filler. But the sauce to noodle ratio was perfect! The pad thai sauce was perfectly sweet and tangy - coated the noodles so nicely without acting like a puddle of gravy. Might be my favorite pad thai in philly so far! I've been dining at this restaurant and its prior location for more than 15 years. We've celebrated birthdays, graduations, and simply had take-out on countless occasions. So when a friend came to town from Maryland, I suggested meeting here for dinner. I'd not been in a couple of years and was ready to enjoy it again (especially after a trip to Thailand). The food was as delicious as always! And the service started out fine, but somehow fell off into a train wreck. Our orders were promptly taken and food quickly arrived. But after the initial deliver of our meal, we were left alone for an hour. Nobody checked to see if we were okay or needed anything. What we wound up needing was our bill and a couple of boxes. Even after flagging down our server to ask for those, we waited longer than what seemed necessary. With only 4 active tables in the restaurant, and two active servers, it didn't seem like lack of capacity issue. The table next to us was getting their drinks refilled and checked on, while we sat in disbelief. Finally, we asked for bags to carry our leftovers. Our sever went off to get our bags, and at least 5 mins later returned from the kitchen area to wipe tables. No bags for us. Again, we sat...in disbelief. We'd now been in in the restaurant for just shy of two hours. And had finished our meal almost 90 mins ago. (Our parking meter app was tracking). The table next to us noticed our concern and struck up a conversation. I shared with them that 'we've been trying to leave for an hour'. The host happened to be walking by and heard me. He disappeared and immediately returned with two paper bags. I'm not sure what rendered us invisible. I've got a dozen photos on my phone of prior Chabaa Thai meals. Chabaa isn't just the best Thai in Manayunk, it may as well be the best Thai in all of PA. My husband and I spent 17 days in Thailand for our honeymoons (many years ago) and nothing will ever come close to it except for Chabaa! The curries are NEVER oily and stay true to what the food should taste like. For bonus points - it's a BYO AND Chef Moon is the most kind and personable owner ever. She has come come out and chatted with us multiple times and we adore her and the staff here. It's a staple for our date nights! read more

They turned the music and the heat off in the restaurant and half way through our dinner we saw our server leave for the night out the back door. This place is spot on point. Every other place we tried in Manyunk was eh. On tops if that the parking sucks. This place I would brave their unbearable parking situation for. I was worried after trying that new Thai place in fishtown nothing would compare. This place is different. Not as fancy or expensive. Plus for me. Good just as delicious. We had four people checking on us and I think one was the owner. Even though we were the only people out front. There is outdoor seating along the side we didn't notice that looked real quaint. Man, talk about a cool interior. Incredibly stunning flooring and wooden frame chock full of wonderfully authentic-appearing Thai decor. Felt like I was transported to a different world there. The food was outstanding - can't remember all that we got, I think Crab Fried Rice, Tofu Green Curry, Pad Thai and one more that is slipping from my memory... but check out the pics. If you like Thai food, you'll want to eat here. Their lunch menu is great and reasonably priced in the $20 range. The perfectly seasoned food was spicy but can be ordered adjusted to taste. It's been years, but I moved back to Manayunk and Chabaa is still as yummy as I remember! I had a friend visiting from out of town and she wanted to get Thai one night, I knew exactly where I was going to take her! We weren't able to make reservations online so figured we'd just walk down and put our name on the list if needed. We get there and I'm pretty sure the hostess was brand new because she didn't seem to have a clue what she was doing (we've all been there, girl!). She had a panicked look and told us there was a wait, which I said that was fine, we wanted to put our name on the list etc. Told us about 45min, put my name and phone number down, told me she'd call when table was ready. Great! We walk down Main Street and grab drinks for about a half hour elsewhere and decide that would be enough time to go back to the restaurant and wait. Another hostess is flipping through the list and I see my name right there - crossed off. I was like um I was never called. This hostess immediately tries to figure out what happened and tells us she'll get us a table but we have to wait. Altogether from when we put our names down, I think we got sat about an hour later which tbh wasn't really a big deal because we weren't in a rush (I would've been super bummed if they couldn't seat us after all that). After that little snafu, we had an absolutely lovely dinner! Brought a bottle of wine - my friend is from VA where BYOB is not a thing so she absolutely loved this idea! We got the appetizer sampler to share - so many yummy things on it! My friend got I think a Pad Thai and I got the Krapao - spicy level 4 (max 5). Took one bite and was like YEP THAT IS A 4! Perfect amount of spice for me and the food was delicious as always! Coming back after living in DC for 5 years, the price differences are great! Everything was good but I would order 2 of them for a group of 4 as there was only 2 of each item. For entrees, someone got the chicken pad Thai, panang curry with shrimp, spicy basil fried rice, and one of the specials (pictured) that I can't remember the name of with tofu. Everything was incredible and the serving sizes were big for the price. We ordered the following: -fresh spring rolls -Tom Kah soup with chicken -Green curry with chicken -Pad thai with veggies The green curry was pretty good, and the pad thai was fine (nothing special but it did the job). The fresh spring rolls were fine (non-peanut sauce, FYI). However, the Tom Kah soup was inedible. Totally blah, no flavor, we really couldn't eat it. I hate to slam a restaurant for just one dish, but when I emailed them and explained that it was bad and asked for a refund, they not only didn't grant a refund, they straight up didn't even respond to the email at all. In addition to that issue, we also had an issue with pick up -- went to get the food within the 20 minutes we were originally told, was told it would be another 45 min and that they would call us when it was ready. They never called, and then there was confusion at pickup about where the order was. Ultimately, a disorganized place with medium to straight up bad food. Would definitely not return. read more

It wasn't overpowered with sweetness to the point where you couldn't taste the tea. (5/5) Spicy Basil Fried Rice: This dish came in a HUGE portion. You can choose your spice level from 1-5, and I got a 4, which was decently spicey. The rice was flavorful and had a lot of basil in it. (5/5) Crispy Duck Pad Thai: There are plenty of protein options to choose from for their Pad Thai, but the crispy duck is definitely something unique and special. I really tried to like this place given how nicely decorated it is and the relaxing ambiance. The Pad Thai was good, portion is big, and the plating looks great as well. However their special/signature dish Panang Beef was a huge let down. There are 4 gigantic pieces of beef and they are the toughest and driest beef I had. They don't even provide a knife so I'm trying to break it apart with my fork and spoon. It's difficult to swallow them as they're so dense and hard. Chabaa was a restaurant in Manayunk that I always passed by and thought how cool it would be to dine here someday but did not do so until this evening. My friend, Felix, and I finally explored this lovely Thai Bistro restaurant and it was a very pleasant experience. When you enter in, you immediately are taken out of the bustling Main Street of Manayunk and enter this serene almost sacred space with a beautiful flower arch greeting you. The restaurant has beautiful flower arrangements, beautifully ornate Buddha statues, and other Thai-esque decor throughout the restaurant, which offers a very peaceful and intimate environment to dine in. The waiter and other staff were courteous and provided great service. My encounter with the owner occurred when I was waiting for the bathroom and she showed me an alternative bathroom, which was very kind of her and memorable at the same time. The food was memorable as well as we ordered a seasonal dish which was the Shrimp & Pork Dip which came with Black Sesame Shrimp & Pork Chips and a savory peanut sauce and veggies. The appetizer offers a quiet ASMR moment for when you dip the chip into the peanut sauce. You will hear a Snap, Crackle, and Pop sound that makes you reminiscent of a Rice Krispy great. Lastly we got a Tofu Crazy Noodle dish which was very fragrant from the Thai Basil Leaves but a savory taste with its bell peppers, baby corn, bean sprouts, and sauce. When I first moved to Philly, I looked for a while for a nice sit-down Thai restaurant. Because I was new and in the Germantown area, I was hesitant to venture into downtown just for food. Chabaa popped up on my radar when my friend who is a local invited me here for dinner. We sat inside and were able to order quickly. I had the pineapple fried rice with chicken and it came served on a plate with the pineapple peel as the container/bowl. It was a unique and artsy presentation. The fried rice was good but not the best I've ever had. The volume of food was fine, not huge. I'd imagine if you generally eat a lot and came in really hungry, it might not be enough to fill you. We were there during peak dinner hours so the staff seemed to be moving at 110%. We did have to wait what felt was a little long for the food but the staff was attentive and did the best they could during the dinner rush. They also have outside seating which they have really bolstered and added much to since COVID. Overall I'd come back here to sit down and eat for the presentation and ambiance. It's a good date spot. If I was craving take out, I have another favorite spot in mind. read more

Monday night we had the honor of dining here for the first time since the Pandemic started, and we were truly blown away by our experience. The staff was extremely welcoming and kind. Chef Moon spent a lot of quality time with us, giving us recommendations, and genuinely getting to know us. It is apparent that she is passionate about her staff, her customers, and making sure that she creates delicious meals! We felt honored to have met her! It is very obvious that Chabaa Thai Bistro and Yanako have made a tremendous effort in keeping their customers and employees safe during the Pandemic by requiring diners to get their temperatures checked when they walk in, as well as using the provided hand sanitizer. The seating arrangements were very spaced out as well, in order to alleviate any concerns for eating inside. We 10/10 would recommend this place.
