Looks like a great place, and clean. Waited maybe an hour for our food though. Waiter apologized a ton of times without us even saying anything because they were taking so long. The fried pickles were okay. Also you have to order 20 wings if you want two different flavors. The wings also made me sick. Quality of the wings: The wings are $3-4$ more expensive than other places and that was what they are famous for so I expected the wings to be top notch. The flats were maybe average. The drums were mostly terrible. Lemon pepper was the nest flavor. Honey bbq wasn't all that great. Neither was the old bay, was surprised about that, but the quality of those wings were not very good at all. I would try this place again and get something else other than wings. Food is sub....par with above average prices. Kinda dumpy. For a world renowned restaurant they could spend some time and money on the bathroom. Stop for a beer after work. Well covid hrs are still 8pm whilst the rest of the town is operating until at least 10. Plan appropriately and have a back-up. We stopped in a few days ago @730.. they weren't seating and they were about to last call for the a 20 or so people in the bar. Our party of 8 would have put that at close to ..30. who would close their bar with 30 patrons spending money? Not surprised about situation above because when we were last here in like February again a bar full of people the door or whatever guy was complaining that they should be closing because reports of heavy snow that night????? It was about 7pm. Of note it wasnt just one statement the guy kept on about closing loudly enough that everyone knew this guy apparently had other things to do that evening.... Never had a problem in the bar or tenders but service otherwise is not great, definitely not consistent and I prefer not to go here at all but it's directly close to my employer sooo ..... a local place that locals do not go to... Take a hint move on from this choice there are multiple restaurants around here that are so much better and actually want your patronage. read more

First time customer. Not sure I'd go back. Greeted and seated quickly. Big restaurant area and big bar area plenty of TV's. Nicely decorated. We were shoved in a corner at a little table. Sever was nice, but wasn't in any hurry. Ordered wings, fries & chicken tenders. You can order all flats or drums for the wings for an upcharge, never ever have I paid at any other place for that. Why charge extra ? Does one cost more ? Guess not if you charge for both. So passed on all flats as they were already on the pricy side. A soda is $3 and beer ranged from $7 + Wings had a good flavor. We had one wet and one dry. Wet seemed a little to heavy on the sauce and didn't seem anything special. 4 small pieces of celery. Chicken tenders were very lightly breaded, not much flavor and very dry. Fries were just warm and just normal frozen. Menu prices seemed high for a wing place. Bathroom needed attention, I informed a server but she didn't seem to care. read more

I frequented the original Anchor Bar in Buffalo NY in the late 1980's, as I grew up in Rochester NY and went to college in Buffalo. (If you remember the black lady with white hair singing amazing jazz on weekends then you know what I'm talking about!). So, needless to say, I was excited that an Anchor Bar Franchise was opening near me in Frederick MD. I was hoping for "authentic" Frank and Teresa's wings! Well, I was NOT disappointed! The wings were great! Our server, VICTORIA, put up with my "Buffalo Snobbery" with courteous humor. (She was great!!) I am very pleased that the old Tilted Kilt is gone. This restaurant has potential. The beer selection is vast and the wings are delicious. The Weck, which is a slow roasted roast beef sandwich on a kimmelweck roll is tasty. The top of the bun was stale but the sandwich had plenty of flavor. It helps to have a side of jus and fresh horseradish. I ordered a side of Cole Slaw which could have been a bit dryer and less chopped. Since I ordered slaw I should not have received fries but the plate came loaded with cold, stale, tasteless fries. Tried a new place tonight. Ordered onion rings which were delicious. Also ordered old bay wings a veggie burger with side salad. Side salad was good. The veggie burger was... very stale tasting. My husband and I are from Buffalo, NY, we lived there until we were in our 30's, so we had many decades to develop a palate for chicken wings. Anchor Bar might be the original home of the wing, but they have long been overtaken as the place to go for GOOD wings. Rule #1 in making GOOD wings - CRISPINESS. The wings should absolutely be crispy without having to ask the server to make sure they are EXTRA crispy. At this Anchor Bar, not only are the wings totally mushy, but even when I've asked for them EXTRA crispy, the kitchen makes them only sorta crispy.on the edges. That is a MAJOR disappointment and a huge faux pas in the chicken wing world. Rule #2: the sauce must be the right proportion of sauce and butter. Anchor Bar sauce is pretty decent, but it's hard to tell if they pass this test when Rule #1 is broken. Rule #3: The wings must be fresh and hot out of the fryer. There is nothing worse than the smell of old chicken wings. You know this smell when you bite into the wing and it has an odd gamey smell and the meat seems almost chewy and the bones are brittle and dried out. Anchor Bar has passed this test. The wings seemed fresh and juicy every time. I have no complaints. Rule #4: The blue cheese must be good. I have no complaints about Anchor Bar's blue cheese, it's quite good. Rule #5: The wings should be accompanied by an ample supply of celery (carrots are a bonus). Anchor Bar, you have failed me. I need more than 4 celery sticks. But thanks for the carrots, at least you sorta made up for the lack of celery. Now, just some general notes about my overall experience on my 3rd visit: we ordered pizza, but the server came back and said "Sorry, but the pizza machine is broken". I'm not sure what a pizza machine is, and neither was she, but what kind of a dumb statement is that? Does Anchor Bar have a pizza vending machine in the kitchen? Also, the fries are waaaaaay too salty. I'm not sure why the kitchen feels compelled to over salt the frozen fries, but they were mostly inedible. That's the 2nd time I have had the fries and they were too salty on both occasions. STOP with the salt for the love of God! Overall, our 3rd time there was another disappointment. We won't avoid the place like the plague, but we have decided that there are better wings in this town. read more

First time going to the anchor bar, extremely disappointed. For an appetizer we ordered the loaded fries which came out right away, they were good. Cocktails were just "ok" there was a bit of a wait getting them. My husband ask our waitress which is better the wings or burgers? The waitress immediately said the burgers without question. So my husband ordered a plain bacon cheeseburger with sweet potato fries, I ordered the Grilled Chicken salad. 40 minutes later we were told our order was delayed because the cook put the wrong cheese on the burger.... what??? Food finally came out, The plain bacon cheeseburger had lettuce tomato on the side stiff hard yellow cheese on top the burger. My grilled chicken looked like dice tuna with tons of nats... yes nats! swarming all around it. I complained to the waitress, she said she totally understood and said she would not eat it either, then removed the salad from our bill... we walked out and plan to NEVER return!!! The place should have been really good like the original but sadly no. Low quality food. Wings over cooked and dry. Sauce lacking taste. I've have better French fries from a grocery store box. To add insult to the experience, the hostess was seating people out of order so don't expect the wait times to be accurate. I asked for a manager three times and apparently they don't have one. At least one never showed up and I never saw one. This is easily the worst dining experience and worst food I've had in years. My advice is don't bother. read more

I had high hopes on trying their wings....didn't happen. My friend and I went to the bar since there were many seats available. It took a good 10 minutes until we were asked if we've been help. So I we ordered our beers and an order of wings with fries. The bartender didn't give us our beer until we ask for our beer again (10min later). 30min go by and still no food. A different bartender asked us if we'd like another beer and we said yes. Another 30min goes by and no food. We finished our beer, received our check and noticed that we were charged for the food. I told the bartender (different bartender from the one who placed the first order). He went to let the other bartender know that we didn't receive our food and I overheard him say "oh well." Gave it a 2 star because the 2nd bartender was nice and apologized for the inconvenience. Will try again but hopefully will be more satisfied than the 1st experience. read more

I will give 1 star for the wait staff, but that is just being nice. So we get there and wait maybe 5 minutes which we thought was great for a Saturday night at 8pm. That is the best part of this whole visit. We sit down waitress comes gets our drink order and a out 5 minutes later our dinner order. We ordered a kids pizza, 10 wings with the famous sauce, a bowl of their famous wing soup, and a side salad. Easy enough you would think, right. 30 minutes pass and the side salad come out.......40 minutes nothing......I was done. I didn't see a whole lot of food coming out to anyone and our waitress just said sorry its takening so long but there's nothing I can do. I went to the hostess stand and asked for a check for the side salad which was good, was asked what's wrong and explained how long we have been waiting and hadn't seen the soup which anyone knows is made and sitting in a hot pot waiting to be served. Lady said let me see what's going on and disappeared, 5 minutes later still waiting for the check for the side salad and I figured might as well get a little loud asking for the check so I can pay for the side salad. Still nothing. After what felt like 5 more minutes lady comes out and says your food should be up in a couple minutes, I replied no I want my check so I can pay for the side salad that was eaten. Lady says you don't want your food cause it will be out in a few more minutes, no I just want the damn check to pay for the food that was eaten. She say you can just leave and not to worry about it. Before anyone says I am just bitching to bitch or I have to understand they just opened, it was a Saturday night or any other crap. I could care less this is just bad, there was only a few other people who came in after us, the place wasn't busy, no wait time and seats open at the bar. I hope they can fix the kitchen problems cause that is what this is, maybe find a new kitchen manager, one that can control and run one, because the one they have now has no clue. I will never be back to this place. The management and staff seemed annoyed with questions i had about the bar being new and all and my first time in there. the service sucked you would have thought the bar was packed but there was only 12 people in the whole place. last the food is terrible. My girlfriend ordered the buffalo cheese dip it looked like a bowl of watery soup and had the flavor of what i would imagine the bottom of my shoe would taste like. My friend got the crab dip which was also terrible burnt greesey pile of throw up it looked like. The wings are not consistently cooked crispy even when you ask for extra crispy. There is no sauce on the planet that can make up for soggy wings. I've been to the original Anchor bar many of times and the wings were crispy every time. This place needs some quality control to live up to the original anchor bar standards. read more

When we arrived we asked if we could be seated to see the football game . Now there were less than 20 people in the place and at least 8 tvs that I saw . It took 3 people and 15 minutes for them to figure it out .Service was good ,food was mediocre . Salad was sparse,soup was uninspiring. The wings were ok ,they were just wings . Warning: Went with a large group from work but they wouldn't let us split the bill, said company policy only allows the bill to be split 4 ways no matter the size of the group. My Daughter in Law surprised me in May with a trip to Frederick and boy was I!! A real Anchor Bar. We ordered a round of Genny Cream Ales, while looking at the menu and taking in the Buffalo memorabilia and aroma of the wings being cooked in the kitchen. We ordered mild, medium and hot. Wings were cooked perfectly! Not too crispy and definitely not chewy. Sauces were everything I remember from the original on Main Street in Buffalo. Wife had a Beef on Weck. Beef was perfect, tho the roll was heavy on the salt. All in all it was a great trip and we will return! read more

Not a great experience unfortunately...ordered a pizza half Buffalo chicken half cheese...pizza brought to tablebwith the cheese half only having cheese and no red sauce...misunderstanding that we take partial responsibility for...we didn't make a fuss and said we did not need a new pizza...the problem was the server never once apologized or took any responsibility for the issue and even told me there was a red sauce base when there clearly wasn't...by the end of meal the server was clearly annoyed by us even though we weren't making a fuss...this upset me and I asked that the pizza be taken off bill as we didn't eat it and felt no one cared that it happened...server took pizza off bill and make a comment that she hoped the manager would comp her later(trying to make me feel bad at this point) still tipped 20% as my mother was a server for 25 years and have a soft spot...so many ways this could have been made better but oh well...will not return...lots of other great restaurants that might actually care that we chose to dine there read more

I grew up going to the Anchor Bar in Buffalo, so I know a little bit about what good wings should taste like. There aren't any in Maryland (where I now live). Until now. The new Anchor Bar in Frederick, MD uses the same recipes as the Buffalo original. I ordered my usual medium wings, and they were just a bit milder than they are in Buffalo, but the flavor was spot on. The only thing I would change is that they need to either fry them a bit longer or the oil needs to be a bit hotter, because they weren't quite as crisp as they should be. But overall, the best wings you'll find in Maryland. read more

Yep this place is legit. Maybe not exactly like the original in Buffalo at 100%, but close enough in Frederick. Better than the other chains around here. Tried two sauces and one rub. XL hot- good flavor not really hot though. Smoky Bourbon BBQ - Yep damn good and Lemon pepper rub - Solid go too ! The service was attentive during lunch and the tourney was on so the place was packed. No small talk with staff, just service. I can deal with that. 50 TVs or so. My BFF and I went there Wednesday 4/17/19. "Anchor" Bar was a bit puzzling. I rather expected something Seafood..ish. However, Our witress was delightful and engaging. I was very surprised to see a HOT chicken wing in my Bloody Mary. But wow, very good...if removed promptly and eaten :) I'm NOT convinced I need a $10.00 Bloody Mary with a hot wing in it. One minor point...As we were the first patrons in the door that day, and we were seated right in the path of every other customer to drag their pursed over my friends back...WTF?? Is that respectful?? Noisy, apparently carpet in not in the budget....The food we ordered was very tasty. I'm giving this three stars for now. I will give them the benefit of the doubt since I was here the week after they opened and they were super busy. I will give them another try soon to see if they have improved. The night I was there our waitress was not very attentive and we had to keep flagging her down for drinks. The food was average. similar to what you would get at most sports bars. I had wings and a cheese steak and both were good, but i expected greater things from the wings since their whole thing is they invented the buffalo wing. In a half occupied restaurant we waited for 2 dinners for 1 hour.. the food was cold, and the dishes looked slapped together without any regard to a recipe, as if my 10 year old tried cooking for the first time. No one should boast about their wings like this unless they can back it up. The chicken macaroni and cheese was awlful. The chicken over cooked and tossed over a congealed cheese and was cold, the side salad never came to the table. We were never offered water with our meal. The roast beef weck was as small as a sandwich could be with 8 fries ..again does not measure up to the menu boasting about it. Restaurants thrive on repeat business. It only a matter of time before the spill over guest from Olive Garden realize to never go back.. they need to reengineer a better menu or they will never get repeat business. If you like spending 50.00 for 2 meals and walk away angry please go here , what a waste. Advice: wait in line at the Oliver garden for a properly made meal or just eat at home. read more

They may have created the "original buffalo wing" but evidently others have perfected it. Nothing special and subpar. What a huge disappointment. Below average wings and underwhelming sandwiches and sides. Entrees and sandwiches were either bland, poorly seasoned, or just boring. The beef weak sandwich was so salty it was inedible (and I put salt on everything). The Mac and cheese was bland wet pasta. Service was fine but not amazing. There seemed to be 2 staff members for every patron and I still sat with an empty glass of tea. That location has turned restaurants 4 or 5 times in the last 10 years. I see the trend continuing. Hopefully next time it can be a Cheesecake Factory... After an initial trial, there is no need to return. Why pay premium when any local watering hole with a kitchen or the Applebee's next door makes better buffalo wings and sandwiches(and I am not a fan of Applebee's). read more

Have had two visits here. Two stars only because food is great. Service on the other hand is pitiful at best. Fist time had a large group of family I took for dinner, place was very slow and when we needed a table for 10 they just looked at us before it seemed to register what we said. We did get drink orders in fairly quickly but took a good 15 min. to arrive and these were just tea and sodas. We were then ignored and had to track someone down to take food orders. The second time was just my wife and I out for dinner. We were seated right away and given a menu. When we ased for a drink menu we were told there wasn't one that they had a full bar and could make whatever we wanted. Part of the fun is trying new things and i especially like what some bartenders can come up with other than just the ordinary. We ordered our drinks along with waters, the server brought the drinks but only one water and then wandered off. Came back a little later for food order and we again asked for a water which took a while again. Everyting was great up until time for the check when our server decided to make an off hand very sexist remark. My wife was so stunned and upset that she asked to just go home after without continuing our date. We love the food but debateable if we will return. read more
