I live about a mile from the ChicKing in Albany, and I knew there was one somewhere in Maryland. So when I was my road trip home from an event, I searched the location, and lo and behold, it was 1 minute off my route. So a lunch stop was required. The restaurant is behind a mall, so you'll have to drive around a bit to get to it, depending on where you enter. The restaurant was quiet and very clean. We were greeted immediately upon entering. Ordering was difficult, because they have so many items I like and so many possible combinations and options. To make the choice even harder, they had some great daily specials too, one of which we took advantage of. Everything takes a few minutes to prepare, but that's because everything is made fresh to order. We got a chicken combo which included both regular and spicy. The spiciness was just right, and all the chicken was crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. And as always, I had a hard time slowing down as I devoured the tandoori fries. We had leftovers, and they were nice enough to repackage it for us and provide a bag for everything. And I see they have had more restaurants open since my first visit at home, and I expect quite a few more, if the quality and feedback continue to be top-rate. read more

I really like the grilled option for the chicken. The plain fried chicken lacks any seasoning, including salt or pepper. The sides are good, and ask for the Chai tea. I have had really good chicken from here. Unfortunately, unseasoned flour is not acceptable on fried chicken. Service is very friendly and helpful. read more

This is a first-visit review, subject to change as I return many, many times in the future... Chicking is an international franchise, with Frederick its first US location. It's in a storefront behind Boscovs, in a sketchy area with little traffic after dark. It features incredible halal chicken that it cooked (fried or grilled) to order, meaning it takes a few minutes to receive your food. The chicken is well worth the wait; crispy, juicy, flavorful, hot, and delicious. It wasn't as spicy as they told me to expect, but hopefully I can adjust them up on next purchase. You can specify your chicken parts (I got three thighs, planning on taking on home for lunch. It did not happen. Did I say delicious?) My order came with tandoori fries (?), coleslaw, and a biscuit. I substituted rice because it looked good on the menu, and it tasted as good as it looked. Coleslaw appeared to be homemade, and really, really, really sweet, so maybe not to everyone's taste. The biscuit was OK (Popeye's has a better one), but I was full by the time I got to it. Overall impression: very, very good. I will definitely come back for more! read more

Great place if your beliefs require you to eat Halal however if this is not a personal requirement then Popeyes chicken is lightyears better in taste, crispiness and even price. I went with an old friend on a Sunday evening, he and I always enjoy the food as everything is always hot and fresh. I always go for a 2 piece dark with the Tandoori fries and garlic sauce. Both of our meals were hot, juicy, fresh and absolutely delicious. After receiving our food however the staff gave us a free order of Tandoori chicken bites, just like everything else, they were absolutely delicious. I stumbled across Chicking while looking for another business in the shopping center on Waverly Dr behind Boscov's. I did a little research on them first, then decided to give them a try because I was intrigued upon learning that all of their food is halal. I'm no Muslim, but I respect the food care and preparation needed to meet halal requirements. It just gives you a higher level of comfort, which is nice, since, most of the time, you don't know what you'll get when you drop into a fast food restaurant. I ordered the hot Chicking wings, and boy, was I impressed!!! First, the wings were very visually appealing, the breading being flaky-crispy with a deep golden brown color. Next, the crispiness was perfect--you bite into the chicken, and the crunch hits and pleases the palate, then you get into the tender meat, and you wind up with a clean bite-through. The flavor was similar to KFC hot wings, but Chicking's wings were hotter even than Popeye's Ghost Pepper Wings without overwhelming you with heat. On top of all that, the food was hot (temperature-wise) and fresh, as Chicking insists on cooking your food fresh. So, let's see, um, chicken is (1) crispy, (2) tasty, (3) well-spiced without being overpowering, and (4) hot and fresh from the fryer? Yeah, sign me up! Incidentally, Chicking will begin cooking your food immediately after you order, and the food will usually be ready in about 15 minutes, so plan accordingly, if you are calling in an order. If you are like me, and you are often frustrated eating fried chicken out due to the chicken being old, cold, and dried up, you will be excited about Chicking, and you definitely want to give them a try! read more
