Local spot in my neighborhood. We have been enjoying Watson's food for years and we always order their Italian cold cut sub with mayo, tomato, lettuce, pepper jack, oregano, and hot pickle relish - a FAMILY FAVORITE. We also ordered mozzarella sticks and onion rings. For dessert, we always grab slices of cake baked by a local baker named Roy's Baked Goods. I always get the coconut cloud cake - my favorite. The family had rainbow and milky caramel cakes. Service is always great, the lady manning the front is always smiling and friendly. Busy little place so we always call in the order for pick up. There's a couple of tables inside and a couple tables outside when the weather is nice. Stop by and try them. read more

Great local restaurant that's been a staple in Jefferson for many years. They have great fried chicken. I like their old bay bar wings even better than the regular fried chicken. They are huge, seasoned well, and their blue cheese is killer. The portions are large and service is as good as it gets. Definitely recommend! read more

We love trying out small unassuming restaurants and that's a perfect way to describe Watson's. Despite the name being Watson's Carry Out, there is actually plenty of place to sit both inside and outside. You could tell that this place is a local favorite. There was a steady stream of people coming in and out with their to go orders. We ordered the fried chicken combo with mashed potatoes and green beans. All in all, I'd give the meal a 4 out of 5. Green beans were canned (as to be expected of a typical hole in the wall), mashed potatoes were good, and the chicken was fried on the spot. The gravy for the mashed potatoes could have been better though. I ended up not touching it after the first bite. Gravy aside, I thought it was a decent meal. I decided to write on yelp because it reminded me of the reaction the second this touched my mouth. I yelped in horror when my fork touched my mouth I was on my way home from church, just hoping for a nice meal on a nice day. As soon as I walked in I heard a complaint- but being the polite understanding person that I am I decided to give it a chance. BAD DECISION!!!! I was met with bad service, bad food, and crushed hopes of having a decent meal. I brought my son, which turned out to be a terrible decision! Absolutely! The words that came out of these workers mouths were disgusting, you'd have you wash their mouth with a bar of soap. I hope the lord can even think of forgiving them for what was put onto my plate. I had to put on my reading glasses to even see the small bit of gravy on my potatoes!!! I simply cannot fathom how you can serve chicken this oily on the outside but the second I bite into it the inside is BONE DRY. I am absolutely shocked right now. Got the half chicken platter with cornbread, coleslaw, and baked beans, with an extra side of Mac n cheese and sweet tea. The cornbread was excellent - fresh, but had a bite to it. Most cornbread seems to disintegrate immediately but this had real texture. The other sides were good and the Mac n cheese I especially enjoyed. But the fried chicken was stellar. Some of the best I've ever had. That alone makes this deserve 5 stars, I've been thinking about it for a few weeks. read more

I've ordered from here a few times over the past year. I decided to write a review only because I called in to order last week and was placed on hold. The hold lasted over 5 minutes, so I decided to hang up and go somewhere else. Their fried chicken is hit or miss. I'd say really good sometimes and not so good other times. I've found it very juicy and crispy but then really greasy on the outside and very dry inside. Their sides...reminiscent of elementary school cafeteria food especially the mashed potatoes. If that's your speed then eat it all up, but there is hardly any flavor and the ingredients don't taste homemade but artificial or boxed. Also, check your orders to make sure they have included everything...there have been a few times a side or bread have been missed. Value for money? Sure. Customer service? Not so good last time since they didn't want my order. Will I go again? Probably because of it's location is somewhat convenient and sometimes you just want that mediocre meal? read more

Their burgers are so juicy. The fried chicken was wow! Their mash potato and gravy felt like thanksgiving. Just amazing. I've come here several times over the years only because it's the closest place to me. Every time I do I regret it. It ALWAYS makes me sick, and half the time I've thrown out what I've gotten because it's just so gross I can't even eat it. Continuing our quest for Maryland's best fried chicken, we went to Watson's on our way out to Lock 29. Hubs and I both got quarter chicken white meat meals, and we were not disappointed. The chicken was flavorful and juicy, with a delicious crust. The macaroni salad was some of the best I've had in a long time, and the mac and cheese was creamy and delicious (very reminiscent of Stouffers... but I like Stouffers so no harm, no foul- also don't judge me). Portions were generous and staff were friendly. The atmosphere was incredibly casual with a few small tables on the side, ordering at the counter, and plastic silverware. We both agreed that while we probably won't travel to Jefferson specifically for this place, when we are in the area, we would definitely stop by again. read more

I used to eat Bill Watson's chicken when I was a younger, thinner man. My family would take us out ever once in a while to enjoy their famous fried chicken. Watson's Carry-out is reminiscent of that tender, juicy, and crispy chicken of long ago. Still flavorful and delicious, but there was a slight taste of burned plastic going on. I hope it came from them not putting paper between the chicken and Styrofoam container. They really should use paper containers. The mashed potatoes and gravy were average, as were the green beans. Now, I don't like corn bread, but I LOVE theirs. It's more like corn bread cake. It was moist and a little sweet. What a treat! I recommend calling your order in ahead to avoid long lines and waiting. I placed mine at the store at 5:15 and waited 35 minutes for the order, on a Thursday. The value was very good. Our neighbors raved about the chicken, so we thought we would give it a try. It was AWFUL. The wing on the breast part was really dry and inedible; it felt like all bone and no meat. The chicken looked as if it had been re-cooked. The coating was charred and the eat tough. Maybe we got there on a bad day... but never again. It's too bad!!! read more

I loved Watson's when they were in Frederick. I am glad they are back in business. I sent my husband there particularly to get some cole slaw and when we opened it up, it had discolored to an unappetizing tannish brown. I dug under and the slaw hadn't discolored in the middle, but it had browned all down the sides and the bottom. I'd say we lost 1/2-2/3 of it. I think this problem may come from pre-filling the containers with slaw prior to a customer's ordering it. I know it's a little more labor intensive, but if it insures that the product is fresh and appetizing, it would be worth more than a few extra minutes of someone's time. I have pictures, and would be happy to share them if the owners would like to see them. I won't give up, though. I will try them again. read more

I sent $16 for an 8 piece chicken. Had to return. The outside was not too appealing and smelled like it was fried in old grease. The inside was cooked properly.. when I returned it there was no chance of asking for my money back or something other than chicken. Replaced it with another 8 piece. It looked as though they just replaced it with the same chicken I returned only reheated. If they didn't want my repeat business, they succeeded!! I dnt bring up race lightly but it is Jefferson MD. Must admit it was very hectic when they first opened. Long wait times and items missing from the order. Now that things have stabilized, their food is outstanding. Wife and I usually eat there at least once a week. We switch between the fried chicken and the subs. The macaroni salad is to die for. Tastes just like it did when Watson's was on West Patrick St. The service is very friendly and knowledgeable. They also have some great daily specials. Prices are very reasonable too. We went to Watson's today after being in the river. They had outside seating with umbrellas available. We ordered fried chicken and a small container of almost every side. The fried chicken is delicious!! The sides were great. The staff was very friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. This place is a gem in a world of subpar chain restaurants. Their fried chicken is really good, so is their fried chicken tenders although tenders may be store bought, and the homemade mashed potatoes and gravy were very good. The peanut butter pie was very creamy but just too sweet for one person to finish. The owners are very friendly but they have a cashier that seems to have an attitude and it can dampen the entire experience. They are not prepared to handle more than one customer at a time so it is best to call ahead and place your order. They do have several tables in the store and several tables outside. All meals are served in styrofoam containers. It is what it advertises, "carry-out" and rated accordingly. Call ahead to order your good food, come in, purchase and walk out with it. One time they were out of chicken and another they had no ice for drinks. They do not serve tap water here. read more

We had such a wonderful dinner here. It is not fancy but we weren't looking for fancy. We sat inside and the owner talked to us off and on. The chicken was excellent, macaroni salad great. Another poster said the corn bread was like cake and they were correct. Cannot think of one negative except that it is not in my town. That being said we will be going back here often. read more
